(CHATSWORTH, ON) – Canada Road Safety Week runs from May 13 – 19, 2014. The purpose of the campaign is to ramp up enforcement and raise awareness; addressing the importance of safe driver behavior in an effort to make Canada’s roads the safest in the world.
As in previous years, members of the Grey County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) continue their efforts, through enforcement and public education, in targeting the “Big Four†major causes of death and injury on our roadways, specifically, impaired driving, aggressive driving, distracted driving and failure to wear or improper use of seatbelts.
On Thursday, May 15, 2014 at approximately 8:41 p.m. members of the Highway Safety Division Mount Forest Traffic Management Unit conducted a RIDE spot check on Grey Road 4 at the Artemesia/Glenelg Town Line, Priceville, in the Muncipality of Grey Highlands. A Toyota Echo vehicle had stopped and the driver was found to have been drinking alcohol. After failing the roadside breath test he was taken to the Markdale Detachment for further breath tests.
Daniel Vincent LEBLANC, 56, of West Grey, was charged with impaired-over 80 mgs as well as driving a motor vehicle with an open container of liquor under the Liquor Licence Act. He is scheduled to appear in court in Owen Sound on June 5, 2014.
On Thursday, May 15, 2014, at approximately 9:49 p.m., a Grey County OPP officer stopped a motorist on Hwy. 10 at Southgate Road 24 after the driver had made an unsafe turn. The driver was also found to be a suspended driver.
Amanda POST, 34, of Dundalk, was charged with making a turn not in safety and driving under suspension under the Highway Traffic Act.
On Thursday, May 15, 2014 at approximately 11:49 p.m., members of Grey County OPP conducted a RIDE spot check on Grey Road 31 at Grey Road 124, Singhampton, in the Municipality of Grey Highlands. A Chevrolet Silverado pick-up truck had stopped and the driver was found to have been drinking.
Tyler David GARBUTT, 29, of Collingwood, was charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle; over 80 mgs as well as possession of marihuana – under 30 grams. He is scheduled to appear in court in Owen Sound on May 29, 2014.
