3 Vehicle Pile Up – Driver Charged with Careless – 2 Injured

(Napanee , ON)- The Napanee Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police responded to a multi-vehicle collision that closed a portion of Highway 401 for a period of approximately 90 minutes. The collision took place on HWY 401 in the eastbound lanes past Palace Rd and west of Cty Rd 4, Loyalist Twp.

The collision occurred while traffic was travelling eastbound into the construction area and was merging into a single lane. There were 3 motor vehicles that were involved in the collision. A black Ford SUV, being operated by John LOWER of Quinte West, a white MITS FE8 refrigerator cube van, operated by Zeyu SONG of Toronto had merged safely into the construciton zone. A red Jeep Compass being operated by Helen BALL of Quinte West approached the construction area and struck the rear of the cube van causing it to collide with the Ford SUV.

Greater Napanee Fire Department and EMS attended, along with several officers from Napanee OPP. The front passenger in the Jeep was extricated. The two (2) passengers in the Jeep were taken to hospital with non- life threatening injuries. The other drivers were not injured.

Charged with Careless Driving under the Highway Traffic Act is Helen Ball, 72 years of age of Quinte West.
