Shawn DOWNEY – Robbery X3

On January 14, 2024, at approximately 9:45 pm, 2 District (Niagara Falls/Niagara-on-the-Lake) uniform officers from the Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) responded to a robbery call at the Dairy Queen located at 5500 Ferry Street in Niagara Falls.

Upon investigation, it was determined that a male wearing a ski mask entered the restaurant, threatened an employee with a pocketknife, and demanded money from the register. The suspect then fled on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Officers quickly arrived at the scene and were able to locate the suspect a short distance away. Further investigation by 2 District Detectives revealed that the same individual was responsible for two additional robberies in the City of Niagara Falls.

On January 12, 2025, at approximately 8:40 pm, the suspect had entered a Subway restaurant at 5175 Victoria Avenue in Niagara Falls, confronted an employee with a box cutter knife, and demanded money from the register. The suspect then fled on foot with an undisclosed amount of money.

On December 16, 2024, at about 6:45 pm, the suspect attended the Victoria and Maple Variety Store at 4623 Victoria Avenue. He approached an employee while brandishing a kitchen knife, again demanding money from the register. The suspect fled on foot with an undisclosed sum of cash.

There were no injuries as a result of these incidents.

Shawn DOWNEY (41 years old) of Niagara Falls, was arrested and charged with the following offences:

  • Robbery (3 Counts)
  • Disguise with Intent (3 Counts)

DOWNEY was held in custody pending a bail hearing that is expected to take place on January 15, 2025 at the Robert S.K. Welch Courthouse located at 59 Church Street in the City of St. Catharines.

Teenage Dirtbags Arrested For Armed Robbery

The Toronto Police Service is making the public aware of four arrests made in a Retail Robbery investigation.

On Sunday, January 5, 2025, at approximately 1:43 p.m., York Regional Police responded to a call in the Weston Road and Rutherford Road area.

It is alleged that:

  • four suspects attended a store in a stolen vehicle while wearing masks to disguise their identities
  • they approached a store while armed with hammers
  • they smashed the glass door to gain entry
  • they made a demand to unlock the safe
  • they took a quantity of cellphones before fleeing the area in the stolen vehicle

On Monday, January 6, 2025, at approximately 4:40 p.m., Toronto Police responded to a Hold Up call in the Keele Street and Wilson Avenue area.

It is further alleged that:

  • four suspects attended a store in a stolen vehicle while wearing masks to disguise their identities
  • three suspects approached a store while armed with hammers
  • they smashed the glass door to gain entry
  • they made a demand to unlock the safe
  • they took a quantity of cellphones before fleeing the area in the stolen vehicle

Officers from 31 Division quickly responded to the area and located the stolen vehicle.

It is further alleged that:

  • the stolen vehicle accelerated away at a high rate of speed
  • a short distance away, the stolen vehicle collided with another vehicle in the Finch Avenue West and Chesswood Drive area
  • an occupant from the other vehicle sustained minor injuries

The responding officers were able to take all four suspects into custody after a short foot pursuit. Members of the Toronto Police Hold Up Squad and members of the York Regional Police Hold Up Squad commenced an investigation and determined the suspects’ were involvement in both robberies.

Nathan Palmer, 20, of Toronto, was charged with:

  1. Robbery with an Offensive Weapon
  2. Disguise with Intent
  3. Flight While Pursued by Peace Officer
  4. Dangerous Operation of Conveyance
  5. two counts of Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000
  6. Conspiracy to Commit an Indictable Offence

He was scheduled to appear in court at the Toronto Regional Bail Centre, 2201 Finch Avenue West, on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, at 10 a.m., in room 105.

A male youth, 15*, of Toronto, was charged with:

  1. Robbery with an Offensive Weapon
  2. Disguise with Intent
  3. two counts of Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000
  4. Conspiracy to Commit an Indictable Offence

He was scheduled to appear in court at the Ontario Court of Justice, 10 Armoury Street, on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, at 10 a.m., in room 606.

A male youth, 14*, of Toronto, was charged with:

  1. two counts of Robbery with an Offensive Weapon
  2. two counts of Disguise with Intent
  3. three counts of Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000
  4. two counts of Conspiracy to Commit an Indictable Offence

He was scheduled to appear in court at the Ontario Court of Justice, 10 Armoury Street, on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, at 10 a.m., in room 606.

A male youth, 14*, of Toronto, was charged with:

  1. two counts of Robbery with an Offensive Weapon
  2. two counts of Disguise with Intent
  3. three counts of Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000
  4. two counts of Conspiracy to Commit an Indictable Offence

He was scheduled to appear in court at the Ontario Court of Justice, 10 Armoury Street, on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, at 10 a.m., in room 606.

Violent Stabbing – Suspects At Large

On December 25 at 1:45 am Sarnia police were called to the area of Wiltshire Drive and Murphy Rd in the City of Sarnia for a report of an injured male.  Police located a 30-year-old male with multiple lacerations and with significant blood loss.  Officers provided emergency first aid while waiting for the ambulance to arrive, applying a pressure dressing to a leg wound.  He was transported to hospital. 

After attending to the victim’s injuries, police located and secured the scene. 

Investigation revealed that the victim had been walking through Wiltshire Park (near the Howard Watson Trail) when he was attacked by two unknown males.  The victim was struck and stabbed multiple times before being robbed of multiple personal items. 

At hospital, the victim was determined to have non-life threatening injuries.  This included a major laceration on his thigh and left shoulder. There were also minor lacerations on his arm, the top of his head, his face, and defensive wounds on his hands.

As a result of evidence obtained, police believe that one of the suspects may also have sustained injuries.

Robbery Suspect At Large

The Halton Regional Police Service (HRPS) is seeking witnesses to assist in identifying a male suspect who committed a robbery in the parking lot of Mapleview Mall in Burlington.

On December 18, 2024, at approximately 7:40 p.m. the adult male victim attended the currency exchange located within Mapleview Mall where he purchased $7000 in US currency. At 8:00 p.m. the victim exited the doors of Sporting Life and was entering his parked vehicle when he was approached by a single male suspect (see attached photo’s). A brief struggle ensued and the suspect took the US currency. The suspect then fled into a waiting 2011 white Kia Optima bearing Quebec marker AEB 76T. No weapons were seen. The victim did not sustain any physical injuries.

The suspect is described as:

–          Male, light skin, with a short trimmed beard, wearing dark coloured clothing, a black baseball cap with a Mickey Mouse emblem, and a white and black patterned scarf.

Jaden BURDETT – Robbery, Assault, Etc.

(PETROLIA, ON) – The Lambton County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged an individual following a disturbance.

On December 8, 2024, shortly after 6:30 p.m., members of the Lambton County OPP responded to a disturbance at an address on Petrolia Line, Petrolia.

The investigation revealed the accused assaulted two unknown individuals and then attempted to steal one of the victim’s vehicles.

The accused fled the area prior to police arrival.

Police located the accused at which time they were taken into custody.

As a result of the investigation, Jaden BURDETT, 22-year-old of Petrolia was arrested and charged under the Criminal Code with the following offences:

  • Assault
  • Robbery with violence
  • Resist Peace Officer
  • Public Mischief

No injuries were reported.

The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on December 11, 2024, in the City of Sarnia.

Alexander FLEWELLING – Violent Robbery, Assault & Threats

(MUNSEE-DELAWARE FIRST NATION, ON) – Individual facing charges after incident in Munsee-Delaware First Nation.

On October 23, 2024, at approximately 4:53 p.m., members of the Munsee-Delaware First Nation Police and Chippewas of the Thames Police were dispatched to an address on Thomigo Road in Munsee-Delaware First Nation for the report of a disturbance.

Investigation revealed the accused assaulted a known individual, then proceeded to steal the victims keys.

The accused fled the area prior to police arrival.  

Police located the accused at which time they were taken into custody.

As a result, Alexander FLEWELLING, a 23-year-old of Munsee-Delaware First Nation, has been charged under the criminal code with:

  • Robbery with violence
  • Uttering Threats – Cause death or Bodily Harm-Spousal
  • Assault

The accused was held for bail.

There were no serious injuries reported.

4 More Arrested In Connection With Robbery

(DUNNVILLE, ON) – As a result of an assault that occurred at an establishment in Hamilton on July 4, 2024, four additional arrests have been made and 12 firearms have been seized.

On October 4, 2024, search warrants were executed at three residences in Haldimand County, Brantford and Hamilton by members from:

  • OPP-led Biker Enforcement Unit (BEU)
  • Haldimand/Norfolk OPP Community Street Crime Unit
  • OPP Tactics and Rescue Unit
  • OPP Emergency Response Team
  • Brantford Police Service Emergency Response Team

These warrants led to the arrest of one Hells Angels “hangaround” member and three other individuals. Police seized the following:

  • Six handguns, two of which had no serial number, or the serial number had been tampered with
  • Five rifles
  • One shotgun
  • Two extended magazines
  • A silencer
  • Ammunition

Kody BOYCE, age 38 of Dunnville, has been charged with the following 11 offences contrary to the Criminal Code (CC):

  • Loss of firearm not reported
  • Possession of a prohibited weapon – three counts
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm – three counts
  • Possession of property obtained by crime
  • Contravention of storage regulations
  • Tamper with serial number
  • Possession of prohibited or restricted firearm with readily accessible ammunition

The accused was remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cayuga on November 26, 2024.

Tiffany CATHCART, age 41 of Dunnville, Kaitlyn COLEMAN-KANE, age 23 of Dunnville, and Justin TAYLOR, age 36 of Dunnville have each been charged with the following 10 offences contrary to the CC:

  • Possession of a prohibited weapon – three counts
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm – three counts
  • Possession of property obtained by crime
  • Contravention of storage regulations
  • Tamper with serial number
  • Possession of prohibited or restricted firearm with readily accessible ammunition

The accused were released from custody and are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cayuga on November 26, 2024.

Ryan David DICKS – Robbery

(MIDLAND,ON) – On September 25, 2024, members of the Southern Georgian Bay OPP Detachment responded to a report of a robbery that had occurred at a multiple resident dwelling on Elizabeth Street, Midland.

Attending officers spoke with the 45 year old male victim who had been physically assaulted and robbed of personal property while outside on the property of the dwelling by another person known to the victim. The victim was transported to an area hospital for further treatment of his injuries suffered in the assault and later released.

Investigators identified the suspect and through investigation located and arrested Ryan David DICKS 41 years of no fixed address, Midland at 9:54 a.m. on October 22, 2024.

The accused has been charged criminally with the offence of Robbery with Violence and was held for a bail hearing and will appear before the Ontario Court of Justice at a future date.

Wingham Aggravated Assault & Robbery – 2 GRUMMETT-NAIRNs Arrested

(NORTH HURON, ON) – Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Major Crime Unit is investigating a serious assault and robbery that took place on Minnie Street in the Town of Wingham, Township of North Huron on Saturday October 5th, 2024.   

On October 5th, 2024, at 7:30 p.m., Huron County OPP officers located an adult victim in Wingham who reported to police that they had been assaulted.

Police investigated the incident and have subsequently arrested and charged two individuals as follows:

Brody GRUMMETT-NAIRN, 29 years of age of North Huron has been charged with:

–      Aggravated Assault,

–      Robbery with Violence.

The accused was held in custody for a bail hearing where he was remanded into custody awaiting a further court appearance at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich.

Morgan GRUMMETT-NAIRN, 24 years of age of North Huron has been charged with:

–      Aggravated Assault,

–      Robbery with Violence,

–      Obstruct Peace Officer.

The accused was held in custody for a bail hearing where he was remanded into custody awaiting a further court appearance at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich.

(BRANT, ON) – A second person has been arrested and charged following a robbery investigation in Brant County.

Ernesto RAMELLI, 48-years-old, from Tillsonburg has been charged with:

The accused has been released and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Brantford on September 26, 2024.

On August 4, 2024, members of Brant County OPP began investigating a robbery at Colborne Street West.

Elizabeth Molly BARTLETT – Robbery

(BRANT, ON) – As a result of an ongoing robbery investigation in Brant County, one individual is facing charges.

At approximately 3:50 a.m., on Sunday, August 4, 2024, members of Brant County OPP responded to a robbery at Colborne Street West.

It was determined that two individuals entered the victim’s residence and became involved in a physical confrontation with the victim. Both suspects then removed property and fled from the residence into a black vehicle which left in an unknown direction. No injuries were reported.

Later, officers located one suspect at an address on Aberdeen Avenue in Brantford. The individual was taken into custody without incident.

Charged with the following alleged offence is 45-year-old, Elizabeth Molly BARTLETT of Brantford:

  • Robbery with Theft  

The accused has been released and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Brantford on September 26, 2024.

Investigators have identified the second suspect involved in this incident and are making attempts to locate them. There is no threat to public safety.

Lisa CECY Arrested Again – Violent Robbery

(HUNTSVILLE, ON) – The Huntsville Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have arrested a female after a report of a robbery in the Town of Huntsville.   

On June 4, 2024, at 8:18a.m., officers of the Huntsville OPP detachment responded to a report of a robbery in the Town of Huntsville. The victim was at an address on Susan Street when he was assaulted, and his property taken. The victim was able to leave the location and called 911. The victim was treated and released from hospital. 

As a result of the investigation, Lisa CECY 48-years-old of Huntsville was arrested and charged with: 

  • Robbery with violence
  • Assault with a weapon
  • Fail to comply with probation order

The accused was held in custody for a bail hearing before the Ontario Court of Justice in Bracebridge.

Jessica KING & Mark FAGAN Arrested For Violent Robbery

(ORILLIA, ON) – Members of the Orillia Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have arrested two suspects in connection to a robbery in the City of Orillia.

 On June 4, 2024, shortly after 11:00 p.m., officers received a call that a female had robbed a victim at a local business parking lot in the area Murphy Rd in Orillia. An unknown female suspect at the time approached the victim demanding all her property. When the victim would not comply, she was assaulted, receiving several serious, but nonlife threatening injuries. The victim was treated at local area hospital.

Shortly after Officers were dispatched to a break and enter at an address on Mississaga Street E. Once on scene officers located a male fitting the description of the suspect placing him under arrest. Upon searching the male, several items in relation to the Robbery, belonging to the victim were found in the suspects possession.

Upon further investigation specifically through witness account police were able to identify a female suspect. At approximately 4:00 p.m. on June 5, 2024, police received a call for a number of suspicious persons in a parking lot in the area of Coldwater Rd in the City of Orillia. At this time, police attended and located the female suspect, placing her under arrest.

As a result of the investigation, the following individuals have been arrested and charged:

Mark FAGAN, age 37, of South River, has been charged with:

Robbery with violence

Possession of property obtained by crime under $5000.

The accused was held in custody for a bail hearing on June 5, 2024, at the Ontario Court of Justice, Barrie.

Jessica KING, age 30, of Orillia

Adult Robbery with Violence

Adult Uttering Threats – Cause death or Bodily Harm

Adult Assault Cause Bodily Harm – Choke, suffocate or strangle.

Adult Poss of a Schedule I Substance – Methamphetamine

The accused was held in custody for a bail hearing on June 6, 2024, at the Ontario Court of Justice, Barrie.

Robbery – School Placed In Hold & Secure

(CHESLEY, ON) – On March 27, 2024, at 11:36 a.m., the South Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of robbery in a wooded area located in the town of Chesley.

Out of an abundance of caution, a local elementary school was placed in a hold & secure while officers responded to the area.

Members of the South Bruce OPP, OPP Canine, and the West Region OPP Emergency Response Team (ERT) conducted a thorough search of the area.

The South Bruce OPP continues to investigate along with members of the South Bruce OPP Crime Unit.

Wingham Robbery – Repeat Offender Scott RYAN Arrested Again

(NORTH HURON, ON) – The Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Major Crimes Unit is investigating a robbery that took place on March 8th, 2024, at a business on Josephine Street in the Township of North Huron (Wingham). 

On Friday, March 8th, 2024, at 6:10 a.m., the Huron County OPP was contacted by a store owner who called to report a robbery that had taken place at approximately 6:00 a.m. One male suspect had entered the store, produced a note, and demanded cash. The suspect appeared to have been carrying a concealed weapon. The employee advised the suspect that there was no cash inside the store. The suspect then left the store and fled on foot.

Investigators were able to later identify the suspect and on March 11th, the suspect was arrested in Wingham and taken into custody.

A search warrant of the suspect’s residence yielded evidence from the robbery.

Scott RYAN, 36 years of age from the Township of North Huron has been charged with the following offences:

–      Robbery with Intent,

–      Fail to Comply with Probation – (seven counts).

The accused was processed at the Huron OPP detachment and held for a bail hearing.
