Police Officer Gets Paid Vacation For Sexual Assault & Forcible Confinement

A York Regional Police officer has been charged with three counts of Sexual Assault and one count of Forcible Confinement following an investigation by the York Regional Police Professional Standards Bureau.

The investigation began in March 2024 when York Regional Police investigators learned of allegations against the officer.

Detective Andrew BURFORD was suspended with pay beginning March 4, 2024, under the provisions of the Police Services Act, which was in effect at that time.

Detective BURFORD has been a member of York Regional Police since 2004.

In the interest of victim protection, no further information will be released.

Police Officer Arrested Again

LONDON, ON (May 7, 2024) – Earlier today, members of the London Police Service arrested an off-duty member of the LPS in relation to a criminal harassment investigation into repeated communication with a victim over email and phone.

The officer was arrested shortly after 1 p.m., in north end of the city and transported to the London Police Service Headquarters Detention Unit.

At the time of the arrest, the off-duty officer was found to be in breach of court-imposed conditions.

As a result of the investigation, Constable Juan Ernesto Romero-Hernandez, 47, of London, was charged with the following Criminal Code of Canada offences:

  • Criminal harassment by repeated communication; and
  • Fail to comply with release order.

The accused was remanded in custody and is expected to re-appear in London court tomorrow in relation to the charges.

The officer has 20 years of service with the LPS and is presently suspended with pay.  

As this matter is before the court, the London Police Service is unable to provide additional information.

Another OPP Member Charged With Breach Of Trust #FilmThePolice #FTP

(OTTAWA, ON) – Police have arrested and charged another former member of the Thunder Bay Police Service (TBPS).

In December 2021, the Ministry of the Attorney General requested that the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) investigate allegations of misconduct by members of the TBPS. The OPP Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) began an investigation after a review of the evidence.

As a result of the investigation, on April 12, 2024, Sylvie HAUTH, 57 years old of Ottawa, was arrested and charged under the Criminal Code with:

  • Obstruct public or peace officer, section 129(a)
  • Breach of trust by a public officer, section 122
  • Obstruct justice, section 139(2) – two counts

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Thunder Bay on May 7, 2024.

Any questions relating to the employment status of the accused should be directed to the TBSP.

The OPP CIB investigation remains ongoing.
