OPP WARNING ALL RESIDENTS AFTER POLICE INVESTIGATE INCIDENT OF TAINTED CANDY

(NORFOLK COUNTY, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Norfolk County Detachment is warning all residents about tainted candy after police were called to an Evergreen Hill Road, Simcoe, Norfolk County, Ontario address.

On Thursday, May 15, 2014 at approximately 4:48 p.m., police were contacted after two youths were admitted to hospital after ingesting a noxious substance.

Through investigation it was determined that two 15 year old males attended the Norfolk General Hospital on Monday, May 12, 2014 after consuming candy suspected of being tainted with a noxious substance.

Both youths were treated and released from hospital and investigation is ongoing to determine the substance.

Police suspect that the noxious substance is drug related and are warning all residents to be aware of the source where candy is purchased. Purchase your candies from reputable retail outlets and avoid purchasing from unknown individuals.

Police want all parents or care givers to speak with their children and inform them of the dangers of purchasing unwrapped or modified candy off unknown individuals.

OPP INVESTIGATING HOME INVASION

(NORFOLK COUNTY, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Norfolk County Detachment is investigating a home invasion at an Angling Road, Townsend, Norfolk County, Ontario address.

On Tuesday, May 20, 2014 at approximately 2:38 p.m., police responded to the address after two unknown females attended the residence and gained entry.

Investigation determined that the two suspects attended the residence earlier in the day and had spoken to the homeowner. A short time later, suspects returned and entered the residence where the homeowner confronted both females.

One of the suspects brandished an edged weapon while the other sprayed the home owner with a noxious substance. The homeowner fled to a safe area inside the residence and contacted police. Both suspects then fled from the home and were last seen walking northbound on Angling Road and entered a vehicle.

The first suspect is described as female, First Nations Descent, 5’4, 220-230 lbs, brown hair with blondish highlights, hair was up in a ponytail bun, brown eyes, wearing a green khaki coloured shirt, grey track pants and rubber boots with laces.

The second suspect is described as female, First Nations Descent, 180 lbs, dark black hair with brownish highlights, wearing jeans, grey coloured khaki sweatshirt, rubber boots and wore wire framed round eye glasses.

The vehicle that fled from the area is described similar to a Dodge Nitro or Jeep Patriot/Cherokee lighter than navy blue in colour with a chrome grill

The Norfolk County OPP Crime Unit is continuing to investigate and is seeking assistance from the public. If anyone has any information regarding this incident, they are being asked to contact the Norfolk County OPP Detachment at 1-888-310-1122.

POLICE SEEK PUBLIC’S ASSISTANCE – MALE TO LOCATE

(NAPANEE, ON)- Napanee OPP is appealing to the public for assistance in locating a male who was reported missing by a concerned family member.

Stephen LATON, 56 years of age, of Napanee was last seen in the morning on Thursday, May 22ndth, 2014 in Napanee. He may also have been seen in the Tweed area. Police believe he is driving a 2004 beige Chevrolet Silverado with an Ontario Licence plate of 2V5652 (Veteran Plate)

LATON is described as being white, 5 feet 9 inches, 180 lbs, with short brown hair, and wearing glasses.

LAMBTON OPP INVESTIGATION AT BLUE WATER BRIDGE

(POINT EDWARD, ON) On May 22, 2014 just after 10:00 a.m. Lambton Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) along with Lambton Emergency Medical Services (EMS) and the Point Edward Fire Service responded to the Blue Water Bridge after receiving a call that a vehicle driver had abandoned a motor vehicle on the north span of the bridge, and that the driver allegedly jumped from the bridge into the St. Clair River.

Calls for assistance also went out to Canada Coast Guard, the United States Coast Guard (USCG), Sarnia Fire Service, Lambton OPP Marine, and the Sarnia Police Service (SPS).

Firefighters and uniformed officers from Lambton OPP and SPS have been searching from along the shoreline of the St. Clair River while the Lambton OPP Marine vessel searches the water. A USCG helicopter is also providing search capabilities along the St. Clair River.

The north span of the Blue Water Bridge handles west bound traffic from Canada to the Unites States. West bound traffic had been stopped during a part of the investigation but is now moving.

The search efforts are continuing.

DRUG WARRANT EXECUTED

(WELLINGTON NORTH TWP, ON) – On May 16, 2014 Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Wellington OPP Crime Unit and members of the Organized Crime Enforcement (OCEB) unit executed a drug warrant at a residence in the 400 block of Wellington Street east in Wellington North Township.

Resulting from the execution of the warrant, officers seized 90 marijuana plants, 7 ounces of marijuana bud and a quantity of Canadian currency.

21 year old Derek HICKS of Wellington North Township has been charged with Possess a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking and Possess a controlled substance.

18 year old Taryn ARMSTRONG of Wellington North Township has been charged with Possess a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking and Possess a controlled substance.

They were both held in custody pending the results of a bail hearing scheduled for May 17, 2014 at 2:00 p.m.

TRUCK DRIVER CHARGED AFTER COLLISION

(CRAMAHE TOWNSHIP, ON) – At about 6:34 pm on Thursday May 22, 2014 Northumberland Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of a fail to remain motor vehicle collision on westbound Highway 401 involving a vehicle into the ditch.

OPP received two calls with respect to a tractor trailer forcing a 2014 white Buick Regal into the ditch east of Big Apple Drive (exit 497) on Highway 401 in Cramahe Township. The tractor trailer was being followed by a witness.

Police were provided details of the tractor trailer and it was eventually stopped by OPP west of County Road 45 in Cobourg.

Bernard THERIAULT, 57 from Bathhurst, New Brunswick had been served a Provincial Offence Notice under the Highway Traffic Act for change lane not in safety. The driver of the Buick was not injured.

OPP SEEKING HELP OF PUBLIC IN LOCATING MISSING YOUTH – UPDATE

(FORT FRANCES, ON) – On May 20, 2014, police reported that Mariah WILSON, age 15 years of Fort Frances, ON was reported missing. As of May 22, 2014, the public can be advised that Ms. WILSON was located safe and sound in Couchiching First Nation.

OPP SUMMER STUDENT EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY IN FORT FRANCES

(FORT FRANCES, ON) – Rainy River District Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has received funding from the Ministry of Children and Youth Services to hire two students for the Youth in Policing Initiative (YIPI). Successful applicants for the position will assist the Community Services Officer with delivery of public safety programs within the Rainy River District. The students will also be seen as ambassadors for the OPP and the Town of Fort Frances. Pay for the position will be $11.93 an hour based on a 40 hour week for a total of 8 weeks per youth. Occasional weekend shifts required. Criteria on which the applicants will be chosen include:

Applicants must reside in the area of Fort Frances

Be between the ages of 14 and 17 years of age.

Must be returning to school in September.

Cannot apply if applicant has participated in the program in the past

Completed resumes will be received in person at the Fort Frances OPP Detachment at 320 Portage Avenue, Fort Frances, ON no later than 4:00 pm on Friday June 13, 2014. Interviews will take place during the week of June 24 – 27, 2014. There will be an expected start date of Wednesday July 3, 2014 and concluding Friday August 22, 2014. STRATHROY-CARADOC POLICE SERVICE INVESTIGATES A SUDDEN DEATH

(STRATHROY- CARADOC, ON) The Strathroy-Caradoc Police Service is currently investigating the sudden death of a young child that occurred on Wednesday, May 21, 2014, on Penny Lane in the Municipality of Strathroy Caradoc.

The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) and the OPP Forensic Identification Unit have been called in to assist with the investigation.

The investigation is ongoing and further details will be released when available.

OPP CHARGE MAN WITH ADDITIONAL COUNT OF SEXUAL ASSAULT

(Napanee, ON) – Today, May 22, 2014, the Napanee Crime Unit of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) charged 72-year old Neil Joynt with one (1) count of Sexual Assault – male.

As a result of an investigation, the victim, who was a young person at the time of the offence during the 1980’s, came forward to police.

Joynt is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice, Napanee on June 10, 2014. He is presently released on a undertaking with conditions.

DISTRESS BEACON ALERTS POLICE TO STRANDED CANOEIST -CORRECTION-

(FORT FRANCES, ON) – On Tuesday May 19, 2014 at approximately 2:00 pm CST, officers of the Rainy River District Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police were contacted by a Minnesota tourist outfitter to advise that one of the camp patrons who had set out on a canoe trip had sent a SPOT locater message indicating they needed help on Kawnipi Lake in Quetico Park.

Police were informed of the GPS coordinates and made efforts to respond that day but were delayed due to poor weather. CORRECTION – Quetico park employees in the area located the canoeist. His canoe had drifted away from him and he was stranded on the lake. They retrieved his canoe. OPP Emergency Response Team members were unable to fly due to poor weather conditions and were subsequently stood down.

The OPP would like to thank the Quetico Provincial Park employees for their efforts.

OPP ASSIST ANISHINABEK POLICE SERVICE INVESTIGATING AND IDENTIFYING FOUND REMAINS ON CHRISTIAN ISLAND

(Christian Island, On)- Members of the Anishinabek Police Service were alerted to the discovery of what would appear to be human remains late in the afternoon of May 15, 2014 in an area south of West Beach on Christian Island.

A request was made to the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) to assist in this investigation which resulted in members being dispatched from the OPP Southern Georgian Bay Detachment along with members of the OPP Central Region Crime and Marine Unit’s, Forensic Identification Services Unit (FISU) of OPP General Headquarters (GHQ) Orillia, all under the direction of A/Detective Inspector Chris Loam of the Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) OPP GHQ.

A search of the area resulted in remains and other scene exhibits being removed for further examination at the Office of the Chief Coroner in Toronto so as to determine their origin, identity and possible cause of death.

This investigation has revealed that the found remains are those of Penny WARNE who at the age of 57 years was reported missing from her Wasaga Beach home on Feb 15, 2009. Investigators have ruled out foul play as a cause of death and have concluded their investigation of this incident. Investigators wish to thank all of those who assisted officers in the search for Penny stemming back to her 2009 disappearance.

DRUG WARRANT EXECUTED IN TWEED

(TWEED, ON) – On May 21, 2014 at 5:00 a.m. members of the Ontario Provincial Police Organized Crime Enforcement Bureau – Drug Enforcement Unit (DEU), Tactics and Rescue Unit (TRU), East Region Canine Unit, Emergency Response Team (ERT) and the Central Hastings Detachment executed a Controlled Drug and Substances Act warrant at an apartment on Victoria Street North in the Municipality of Tweed.

Investigators seized a small quantity of cocaine and marihuana as well as a prohibited weapon brass knuckles. Two firearms were also found to be stored unsafely.

As a result 25 year old Adam KILPATRICK of Tweed, ON was arrested and charged with Possession of Marihuana, Possession of Cocaine, Possession of a Prohibited Weapon and Unsafe Storage of a Firearm. He will appear in Ontario Court of Justice, Belleville on July 3, 2014.

Francis MONTANA – Drunk Driving

(Hwy# 62, ON) – On May 21, 2014 at 3:30 p.m. members of Central Hastings O.P.P received a traffic complaint regarding a possible impaired driver travelling on Highway # 62 in the Municipality of Centre Hastings. Within minutes officers located the driver in the Village of Madoc. As a result of the investigation, 50 year old Francis MONTANA of Madoc, ON was arrested and charged with Impaired Driving, Over 80mg and Drive While Disqualified, contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada. He was also charged with Drive While Under Suspension and Drive Motor Vehicle Not Equipped with Interlock Device contrary to the Highway Traffic Act. He will appear in the Ontario Court of Justice, Belleville on June 12, 2014.
