DRIVER CHARGED AND CAR SEIZED ON HIGHWAY

(OXFORD COUNTY, ON.) – While responding to a traffic complaint on Highway 401 eastbound, a police officer from Oxford County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), observed a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed.

On May 25, 2014, police observed a vehicle travelling between speeds of 145km/h and 180km/h in a posted 100km/h zone. Based on the observations and investigative steps taken by the OPP officer, the driver, a 19 year old male of London has been charged under the Highway Traffic Act.

Yutian HE was charged with Drive Motor Vehicle-Perform Stunt-Speeding by 50 or more kilometres under the Highway Traffic Act.

The vehicle has been impounded for the prescribed 7-day period and his driver’s license is suspended for 7 days.

Drivers who engage in high risk driving behavior put everyone at risk. Speeding makes it difficult for drivers and pedestrians to react to changes, stop suddenly and control a vehicle. In the case of a collision, the higher the speed the more severe the collision and the more likely that serious injuries or death will occur.

OPP would like to remind the motoring public to manage their time and respect all the rules of the road when travelling.
