One Vehicle, Two Impaired Drivers Arrested

(HALDIMAND COUNTY, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Haldimand County Detachment have charged two individuals with drinking and driving offences following a traffic complaint involving a vehicle on Argyle Street North in Caledonia, Haldimand County, ON.

On Saturday January 30, 2021 at 1:03 p.m., OPP responded to a retail store parking lot on Argyle Street North for a traffic complaint where a witness reported a possible impaired driver.

OPP located the vehicle on the property where they investigated.

Through investigation, OPP determined that both the individual in the passenger seat and the individual in the driver’s seat had been operating the vehicle.

During interactions with both individuals, it was determined that both had consumed alcohol.

Officers administered Standard Field Sobriety Tests which both individuals had failed. Subsequently, they were both arrested.

Further investigation determined that both individuals had an illegal amount of alcohol in their body.

OPP has charged 64-year-old Bruce BELANGER of Belwood, ON with:

  • Impaired operation of a motor vehicle
  • Driving a motor vehicle with more than 80 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood

OPP has also charged 45-year-old Kathleen GRAY of Dunnville, Haldimand County, ON with:

  • Impaired operation of a motor vehicle
  • Driving a motor vehicle with more than 80 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood

The accused individuals had their drivers licences suspended for a minimum of 90 days and the vehicle was impounded.

Both are to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cayuga at a later date to answer to the charges.

Ashley EVANS – Theft Over $5,000

(LAMBTON SHORES, ON) – On December 31, 2020 at approximately 1:45 p.m., members of the Lambton County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were notified about a theft that had taken place on December 25, 2020. Police obtained surveillance video showing the accused taking multiple items from the victim’s residence after the victim left the room.

On January 29, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. the accused was located and arrested in the town of Forest.

As a result, Ashley EVANS, 31-years-old of Forest, has been charged with Theft over $5000, pursuant to the Criminal Code of Canada.

The accused has been released and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice at a later date.

Another Snowmobiler Airlifted To Hospital

(OXFORD COUNTY, ON) – On Thursday, January 28, 2021, at approximately 11:29 p.m., the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Oxford County Detachment along with the Norwich Fire Department and Oxford County EMS responded to a snowmobile collision at a Norwich Township address.

It was determined that four individuals were operating snowmobiles and were travelling on a trail West of Base Line and north of Norwich Road when one of the operators, a 52-year-old, of Oxford County, Ontario was ejected from their snowmobile after crossing over a lane between two fields.

The operator of the second snowmobile, a 37-year-old of Oxford County, Ontario subsequently struck the first rider. As a result of the collision, the rider was transported by ambulance to a local area hospital and then air lifted by Ornge to a Hamilton area hospital to be treated for life altering injuries.

Technical Collision Investigators along with members of the West Region Reconstruction Team assisted with the investigation.

The investigation is continuing and updates will be provided when new information becomes available.

Snowmobile Collision – Kenneth DECORTE Charged

(HURON EAST, ON) – A Huron East resident is facing an Impaired Operation charge following a snowmobile crash that took place west of Atwood. 

At approximately 6:00 p.m. on January 27, 2021 Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Perth County Paramedic Services and Grey Township Fire Department responded to the Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs (OFSC) trail located between Henfryn Line and Krauter Line to investigate a snowmobile crash.

The driver was transported from the scene to a nearby hospital and while speaking with the driver police formed suspicion the driver had consumed some alcohol. An approved screening device test was completed at the hospital and the driver registered a Fail. Two breath tests were later provided to an Intoxilizer Technician and both tests were found to be above the legal limit.

Investigators learned the driver lost control of his snowmobile and was ejected from his machine while overtaking another snowmobile. The driver sustained minor injuries in the crash. 

Kenneth DECORTE, 56 years of age from Huron East has been charged with Impaired Operation – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 Plus). He was later released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for March 8, 2021 at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich.

Theft At Construction Site – WHEELER Arrested

(TOWNSHIP OF GUELPH-ERAMOSA, ON) – On January 16, 2021, at approximately 4:30 a.m. the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a theft in progress at new housing construction site in Rockwood.  

It was reported that a suspect was observed loading construction materials into the back of a red pick-up truck.  

Shortly after the suspect left the scene, police spotted the truck loaded with the stolen property on Wellington Road 124 near Wellington Road 27. The lone suspect was arrested and the property was recovered.

John Michael WHEELER, 39-years-old of Guelph has been charged with Theft Under $5,000 contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada.

The accused is schedule to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice-Guelph on February 19, 2021 to answer to the charge.

18 Year Old Caught Going 110 in a 60

(GUELPH-ERAMOSA TOWNSHIP, ON) – On January 25, 2021, at approximately 4:15 p.m., a Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer was monitoring traffic and conducting radar on Speedvale Avenue West in Guelph-Eramosa Township. The officer observed a silver passenger vehicle travelling westbound at a speed that appeared to be well above the posted 60 km/h speed limit. The motor vehicle was locked on radar at a speed in excess of 110 km/h.

Isaac JUNEAU, 18-years-old of Cambridge, has been charged with Drive Motor Vehicle Perform Stunt – Exceed Speed Limit by 50 Kms or More and Speeding contrary to the Highway Traffic Act. The defendant is scheduled to appear in Guelph at the Ontario Court of Justice – Provincial Offences Court on May 19, 2021. Their vehicle and driver’s licence were seized for a period of seven days as per statute.

Bus Slides Off Road In Grey Highlands

(GREY HIGHLANDS, ON) – On January 27, 2021 at 8:37 a.m. Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a school bus that had slid off the roadway on Grey Road 132, just East of Highway 10, in the Municipality of Grey Highlands.

The First Student School Bus had 15 students on board and a driver. All of the students were safely evacuated and were transported to school via another school bus that was sent to the scene. The bus was towed from the ditch. There were no injuries.

Leah TALLYN – Drunk Driving

(COUNTY OF BRANT, ON) -On January 23, 2021, at approximately 9:23 p.m., members of the Brant County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a complaint of a possible impaired driver traveling westbound on Highway 403 in Brant County. 

The vehicle was observed and stopped on Rest Acres Road, where it was determined the driver was impaired by alcohol. 

As a result of the investigation, the driver, Leah TALLYN, 33-years-of-age from Milton, has been charged with:

•Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs contrary to section 320.14(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC);

•Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus) contrary to section 320.14(1)(b) of the CC.

The driver was issued a 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (ADLS) and the motor vehicle was impounded.

The accused was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on February 26, 2021 in Brantford.

Andrew SCHRAM – Drunk Driving

(MIDDLESEX, ON) – On Tuesday, January 26, 2021 at 9:47 p.m., members of the Middlesex County Ontario Provincial Police responded to reports of a possible impaired driver. Police located the vehicle in the Municipality of Middlesex Centre. 

As a result of an investigation, police have charged Andrew SCHRAM, 49-years-old of Ilderton, with:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs as per section 320.14(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC)
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus) as per section 320.14(1)(b) CC

The accused has been released from police custody and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice on March 4 to speak to the charges.

Dana STEVENS – Threats, Possession Of Weapon

(SAUGEEN FIRST NATION, ON) – On January 23, 2021 at 1:24 a.m. officers from the Grey Bruce Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a threats occurrence at a residence on Highway 21, in the Saugeen First Nation.    

A suspect had threatened a victim, after brandishing a knife, before running off. The suspect was located near the scene and was arrested without incident. There were no injuries.

As a result of the investigation, Grey Bruce OPP have charged Dana STEVENS, 41 years-of-age, from Saugeen First Nation with the following offences:

  •  Uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm, section 264.1(1)(a) Criminal Code of Canada (CCC)
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, section 88 CCC
  • Possession of a Schedule 1 substance – Opioid, section 4(1) Controlled Drugs and Substance Act

The accused was held for a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice in Walkerton on January 24, 2021.

McCLINCHEY – Drunk Driving

(COUNTY OF WELLINGTON, ON) – On January 23, 2021, at approximately 10:00 a.m. the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to several traffic complaints involving a white snow-covered sedan being driven erratically and speeding  southbound on Highway 6 near Arthur.

Police located the vehicle on St. David Street in Fergus and conducted a traffic stop.

While speaking with the driver, officers formed the opinion that the driver was under the influence by alcohol. A Roadside Screening test was conducted which resulted in a fail. The driver was arrested and brought to a local OPP operations centre for further testing.

Cody Joseph McCLINCHEY, 25-years-old of Holland Centre has been charged with Impaired Operation – 80 Plus (mg of alcohol per 100 mL of blood) contrary to the Criminal Code.

A 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (A.D.L.S.) and 7-day Vehicle Impoundment was initiated as per statute. The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice – Guelph on February 26, 2021 to answer to the charge.

If you suspect someone is driving while their ability to operate a motor vehicle is impaired, either by drug or alcohol, call police at 911 to report it.

Gabriella PARADIS – Methamphetamine, Property Obtained By Crime

(Southwold, ON) – On Sunday January 24th, 2021 at approximately 9:41am Elgin County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers responded to a suspicious vehicle complaint in Sheddon, ON. The report indicated that a person appeared to be sleeping in the driver’s seat of a parked vehicle.

Police attended the scene and as a result of the investigation have charged Gabriella PARADIS, age 23 of Walpole Island First Nation, ON with;

  1. Possession of Property obtained by Crime under $5000 contrary to the Criminal Code. (two counts)
  2. Possession of a schedule 1 substance (Methamphetamine) contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act Section
  3. Possession of a schedule 1 substance (Heroin) contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act Section

PARADIS was released by way of a Form 10 (Appearance Notice) with a future court date of February 23rd 2021.

27 Year Old Repeat Offender Arrested After Collision

(Central Elgin) On Saturday January 23rd, 2021 at approximately 7:56am Elgin County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers responded to a report of a single motor vehicle collision on Barnums Gully Line, Central Elgin near the end of the dead end road. Reports indicated the vehicle had flipped onto its side.

 As a result of the investigation police arrested and charged the driver of the motor vehicle, Bryor Michael KIFF, age 27, of St. Thomas, ON with;

  1.  Failing to Comply with an Undertaking contrary to the Criminal Code
  2. Operating a Motor Vehicle while Prohibited contrary to the Criminal Code. (two counts)
  3. Failing to Comply with a Release Order contrary to the Criminal Code
  4. Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000 contrary to the Criminal Code
  5. Careless Driving under the Highway Traffic Act
  6. Driving while Under Suspension contrary to the Highway Traffic Act
  7. Failing to Remain at the Scene of a Collision contrary to the Highway Traffic Act
  8. Failing to Report a Collision contrary to the Highway Traffic Act
  9. Use Plates Not Authorized for Vehicle Under the Highway Traffic Act.
  10. Fail to have Insurance Card under the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act
  11. Possess Unmarked Cigarettes Under the Tobacco Tax Act.

KIFF is scheduled to appear in court at a future date.

Death Threats & Assault – 51 Year Old Arrested

(TOWNSHIP OF CENTRE WELLINGTON, ON) – On January 20, 2021, at approximately 11:00 p.m. Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a disturbance at a residence on Courtney Street in Fergus. It was reported that an intoxicated male had assaulted and threatened two people in the residence.

All parties were known to each other.

As a result, a 51-year-old Fergus resident has been charged with Assault, Uttering Threats to Cause Death or Bodily Harm, Assault – Spousal, Assault Causing Bodily Harm – Spousal, Uttering Threats to Cause Death or Bodily Harm – Spousal contrary to the Criminal Code.

 The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario court of justice – Guelph on February 23, 2021 to answer to the charges.

Leighton Hopkinson Wanted By Police

(TORONTO, ON) – The Repeat Offender Parole Enforcement (R.O.P.E.) Squad is requesting the public’s assistance in locating a federal offender wanted on a Canada Wide Warrant as a result of his breach of Statutory Release.  

Leighton Hopkinson is described as a black male, 29 years of age, 6′ (183cm), 200 lbs (91kgs) with black hair and brown eyes. He has a tattoo of a cross and a crown on his right arm and the phrase “Only The Family” on his left arm.  

He is currently serving a Three (3) year and Five (5) month sentence for Possession of a firearm.  

The offender is known to frequent the Greater Toronto Area.
