(NORFOLK COUNTY, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Norfolk County Detachment is urging all operators of vehicles to stay alert after police were called to a Forestry Farm Road, Charlotteville, Norfolk County, Ontario address.

On Tuesday, April 29, 2014, at approximately 11:24 p.m., police were contacted by a concerned motorist regarding two cows that were located in the roadway.

Through investigation it was determined that two cows had managed to make their way to the roadway from an area farm A motorist that was travelling on Forestry Farm Road at Silver Hill Road immediately contacted police due to almost hitting the animals.

Both animals were subsequently removed from the roadway and returned to their rightful owner.

“Police are reminding all motor vehicle operators to pay attention to their driving abilities and to be aware of your surroundings at all times. Predictable is preventable, make safety your priority” comments Constable Ed Sanchuk, Norfolk County OPP.

(NORFOLK COUNTY, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Norfolk County Detachment is investigating an incident after being called to a Concession 2, Woodhouse, Norfolk County, Ontario, address.

On Tuesday, April 29, 2014 at approximately 6:46 p.m., police attended the Black Creek Conservation Area after unknown suspect(s) proceeded to dump various items of garbage.

Through investigation it was determined that over 40 volunteers had previously collected debris from the area that had gathered over the winter months. Upon returning in the morning, items which included a fridge were observed to have been purposely discarded.

The items were subsequently removed and police are seeking the public’s assistance with this investigation. If anyone has any information regarding this incident, they are being asked to contact the Norfolk County OPP Detachment at 1-888-310-1122.

(COUNTY OF BRANT, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), County of Brant Detachment, OPP In-Service Training (IST) Team, County of Brant Fire Services and County of Brant Paramedics, along with Paris District High School staff and students conducted a training scenario.

On Friday, May 2, 2014, at 10:30 a.m. high school staff, student’s, police, fire and paramedics met at Paris District High School for a mock emergency scenario where officials dealt with threats to school safety.

Since 2011, to safeguard students and school staff, OPP Detachments and Ontario Ministry of Education (EDU)-funded school boards are required to have safety protocols in place in the event of emergency situations. The protocols include agreed upon terminology and stages to assess and respond the risk to school occupants and the community.

This training scenario allowed staff and students the ability to practice their safety protocols, which are in place in the event of emergency situations. The scenario also assisted with how emergency services respond to a threat of school safety and how those services are engaged to ensure a calm and precise response.

“We must always be prepared for the fact that despite our best efforts, incidents involving threats to school safety could happen anywhere any time and no community is immune. Regular Lockdown drills are mandatory (a minimum of two per year) at Ontario schools,” comments Staff Sergeant Bev Prevett, Operations Manager, County of Brant OPP Detachment.

(WEST PARRY SOUND, ON) – The West Parry Sound Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) would like to remind motorists that a driver is to immediately come to a safe stop when an officer, in the lawful execution of his or her duties, has signalled for their vehicle to stop. If a driver is found guilty of such an offence, the driver could be subjected to a fine of $1,000 to $10,000 and / or imprisonment for a term of not more than six months.

On April 25, 2014 at approximately 11:10 p.m., a 49 year old woman from McDougall Township was operating a vehicle on Joseph Street in the Town of Parry Sound. Police attempted to stop the vehicle to verify the sobriety of the driver. The vehicle made no attempts to stop for police. The vehicle finally came to a stop once the driver had reached her destination. Darlene O’BRIEN was served a Provincial Offence Notice for Fail to Stop for Police, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act. She will appear before the Ontario Provincial Offences Court in Parry Sound on May 27, 2014 to answer to her charge.

(CHATHAM-KENT, ON) On May 1, 2014, a Chatham-Kent Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer was conducting RADAR enforcement on Highway 401 near Orford Road.

Just before 9:30 p.m., the officer observed an eastbound Dodge car that appeared to be exceeding the posted speed limit of 100 km/hr. The RADAR registered a speed of 174 km/hr.

Hatem ALOBAIDI, age 24, from St. Marie, ON has been charged with Drive Motor Vehicle – Perform Stunt – Speeding by 50 or More Kilometres Per Hour, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act. The driver’s licence has been suspended and the vehicle impounded for a period of seven days, as per statute.

(WEST PARRY SOUND, ON) – On April 26, 2014 at approximately 3:10 a.m. an officer from the West Parry Sound Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) conducted a traffic stop on a possible impaired driver travelling on Highway 400 in Seguin Township. Initial investigation led to the arrest of the driver and she was consequently brought to an OPP detachment to provide a breath sample for analysis.

Cindy VINCE, 44 years of age from Seguin Township was charged with Driving with more than 80 milligrams of alcohol in blood, contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada. She will appear before the Ontario Court Of Justice Parry Sound on May 15, 2014 to answer to her charge.

(WEST PARRY SOUND, ON) – On April 17, 2014 members of the West Parry Sound Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting R.I.D.E. (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) on Highway 69 in Archipelago Township. At approximately 11:40 p.m. officers noticed a pick-up truck that looked heavily weighed down at the rear. Upon further investigation, it was revealed that the back of the truck contained 25 cases of contraband cigarettes. Each case contained 50 cartons, 200 cigarettes per carton. The three occupants of the vehicle were arrested and charged under the Tobacco Tax Act.

Daryl PRICE, 51 years of age, Sheena DUCZEK, 29 years of age, and Niomi PRANTEAU, 42 years of age, all from Manitoba were charged with the following offences:

– Possession of unmarked cigarettes for the purpose of sale

– Possession of unmarked cigarettes

The three individuals charged will appear before the Ontario Court of Justice Parry Sound on June 24, 2014.

(MATTAWA, ON) – Members of the Mattawa Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Detachment have charged two males with drug offences. The charges stem from a traffic stop on Highway 17, Papineau-Cameron Township. The subsequent investigation led to the seizure of approximately 14 pounds of marihuana. The incident occurred on May 1, 2014 at approximately 9:09 a.m.

The driver, 51-year-old Ronald MAHOMED of La Chute, Quebec was charged with:

Possession of a Schedule II substance for purpose of Trafficking- over 3 kg contrary to section 5(2) Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA).

The passenger, 33-year-old, Eric SMITH of Pointe-Calumet, Quebec was charged with the following:

Obstruct Peace Officer, contrary to section 129(a) of the Criminal Code of Canada (CCC);
Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000 contrary to section 354(1)(b) CCC;
Possession of a Schedule II substance for the purpose of Trafficking-over 3 kg, contrary to section 5(2) CDSA.

Both accused were held for bail and are scheduled to appear in North Bay Provincial Court of Justice on May 2, 2014.

(BRIGHTON, ON) – Northumberland Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is currently on scene of a single motor vehicle collision on Telephone Road east of County Road 30 in the Municipality of Brighton involving a school bus .

OPP are investigating a school bus into the south ditch on Telephone Road between Middle Ridge Road and Scriver Road. The school bus was transporting 16 children and went off the road at approximately 7:53 am today. The 71 year old male driver is being transported to hospital for medical concerns and seven children are being transported for non-life threatening injuries.

The school bus was en-route to Trenton Christian School and continuing on to Quinte Christian School.

The OPP Central Region Traffic Team has been notified and may assist as the investigation into this collision continues.

(KIRKLAND LAKE, ON.) – Members of the Kirkland Lake Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged a local man with several criminal offences. The charges stem from disturbances that occurred in Kirkland Lake during the month of April. The subsequent investigation led to the arrest of the accused.

Charged is Pierre RICHARD age 25 of Kirkland Lake with three counts of Assault, Uttering Threats, Mischief Under $5,000 and two counts of Failing to Comply with a Probation Order. The accused was remanded into custody pending a bail hearing.

(CHRISTIAN ISLAND, ON)- Members of the Anishinabek Police Service were alerted to the discovery of what would appear to be human remains late in the afternoon of April 30, 2014 in the area of Big Sand Bay on Christian Island.

A request was made to the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) to assist in this investigation which resulted in members being dispatched from the OPP Southern Georgian Bay Detachment along with members of the following OPP Central Region Units- Crime Unit, Forensic Identification Services Unit (FISU), K-9 Unit and Emergency Response Unit (ERT).

A search of the area resulted in remains and other scene exhibits being removed for further examination at the Centre for Forensic Sciences in Toronto so as to determine their origin, identity and possible cause of death.

The investigation is continuing and updates will be provided as they become available.

(ADJALA-TOSORONTIO)- On May 1, 2014 at 9:30 a.m., an Officer from the Nottawasaga Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was flagged down by a homeowner on County Road 1, east of Concession 2, stating they had just arrived home to discover a break and enter in progress to their shop. A vehicle fled the scene after striking the homeowners’ vehicle, this vehicle was identified and Nottawasaga OPP sent out information to neighbouring Detachments to be on the lookout for a Grey Ford van.

Minutes later on the County Road 50, a Caledon OPP Officer noticed the suspect vehicle speeding and initiated a vehicle stop. Nottawasaga OPP continued with the investigation.

Charged is 18 year old Toronto resident Richard REZMUVES, he is charged criminally with Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000, Break and Enter, Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle and Driving while under Suspension (Highway Traffic Act). The second male charged is 29 year old Toronto resident, Richard FAZEKAS, he is charged with Break and Enter as well as, Possession of Property Obtained by Crime under the Criminal Code of Canada.

Both males have been held for a bail hearing May 2, 2014.

(SUDBURY, ON) – Members of the Sudbury Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Criminal Investigation Unit have laid charges in a historical sexual assault investigation.

The offences are alleged to have occurred in August 1973 while the victim attended Camp Petraqua in Estaire, Ontario.

The accused, Gordon Everett HALL, age 69 of Estaire, Ontario was arrested and charged with Gross Indecency and Indecent Assault.

He will appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Sudbury on June 25, 2014.

(RENFREW, ON) – On May 1, 2014 at approximately 1:12pm, an officer of the Killaloe detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was conducting traffic enforcement on Highway 41, south of Renfrew. The officer stopped a vehicle for speeding. Upon the officers approach, the vehicle left the scene.

The officer followed the fleeing suspect vehicle for a short period, attempting to stop the vehicle again. When the vehicle would not stop, the officer ceased his attempts.

A short time later, the suspect vehicle was located on Stone Road, Township of Admaston Bromley, involved in a collision. The driver and lone occupant of the vehicle was deceased.

The OPP has notified the province’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU) which has invoked its mandate. As a result the OPP will not be able to provide any further information. Any other inquiries should be directed to SIU Communications at (416) 622-2342.
