TWO ARRESTED IN RECENT AREA BREAK INS

(NORWICH TOWNSHIP, ON.) – The Oxford County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has arrested two male young offenders in connection with several Norwich vehicle and residential break ins.

The OPP Crime Unit members received information and executed a search warrant at a residence in Norwich on May 3, 2014. Some property was recovered as well as 151 grams of marijuana was seized.

The property seized relates back to two residential break and enters and six vehicle entries within Norwich between December 2013 and April 2014.

OPP would like to speak to victims who have not reported previous thefts within Norwich in the past several months to come forward to assist with the investigation. If you have noticed items missing please contact the Oxford County OPP Crime Unit at 519-485-6554 or 1-888-310-1122.

A 17 year old male youth from Norwich, is charged with the following offences:

Break, Enter and Theft – Dwelling House (3 counts)- contrary to The Criminal Code of Canada
Possession of Break In Instruments – contrary to The Criminal Code of Canada
Possession of Property Obtained by Crime – Under $5000 – contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
Fail to Comply with Probation Order – contrary to The Youth Criminal Justice Act
Possession of Schedule II substance (Marijuana) for the Purpose of Trafficking – contrary to The Controlled Drugs and Substances Act
Possession of a Schedule II substance(Cannabis Resin) – contrary to The Controlled Drugs and Substances Act

The 17 year old youth was arrested and held for a bail hearing.

A 16 year old male youth from Norwich, is charged with the following offences:

Break, Enter and Theft – Dwelling House (3 counts)- contrary to The Criminal Code of Canada
Theft Under $5000 – contrary to The Criminal Code of Canada
Possession of Property Obtained by Crime – Under $5000 – contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
Fail to Comply with Undertaking – contrary to The Criminal Code of Canada

The 16 year old youth was arrested and held for a bail hearing. He was released on a Recognizance of Bail.

LAMBTON COUNTY OPP INVESTIGATING SUSPICIOUS FIRE

(ST. CLAIR TOWNSHIP, ON) On May 6, 2014 at around 2:10 a.m., Lambton County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and St. Clair Township Fire Department were called to the 400 block of Lambton Line in response to a fire. The structure was an abandoned residence so no injuries were sustained. A loss estimate is not available at this time. SERIOUS CRASH LEADS TO CHARGES

(GUELPH-ERAMOSA TOWNSHIP, ON) – On May 2, 2014 at approximately 3:44 a.m., Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers responded to a serious motor vehicle collision on Wellington Road 29 near Wellington Road 22, Guelph-Eramosa Township. A 2010 BMW was southbound and lost control in a 50 km/h zone and entered the ditch. The two passengers sustained non-life threatening injuries and were taken to a local hospital by Guelph-Wellington Emergency Medical Services. The male driver was arrested at the scene.

Thomas TIMMINGS age 25 of Guelph-Eramosa Township has been charged with;

-Drive While Ability Impaired Cause Bodily Harm -Criminal Code (C.C.)

-Dangerous Operation of Motor Vehicle Cause Bodily Harm X 2 -C.C.

-Over 80 Cause Bodily Harm-C.C.

The Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (ADLS) program was initiated and his motor vehicle was impounded for seven days.

He is scheduled to appear in Guelph Criminal Court on May 23, 2014 to answer to the charges.

Brian BELL – Drunk Drivnig

(PUSLINCH TOWNSHIP, ON) – On May 3, 2014 at approximately 8:55 p.m., Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers received a driving complaint in Puslinch Township. Police located the northbound 2008 Kia on Brock Road North near Maltby Road and stopped the vehicle. Officers spoke with the driver and determined he had consumed alcohol. He was arrested and transported to the South Wellington Operations Centre in Rockwood for further testing.

Brian BELL age 49 of Guelph has been charged with Impaired Driving and Over 80 mgs, contrary to the Criminal Code. He is scheduled to appear in Guelph Criminal Court on June 3, 2014 to answer to the charges.

MOCK CRASH – WELLINGTON HEIGHTS SECONDARY SCHOOL

(WELLINGTON NORTH TOWNSHIP, ON) -The Victoria Day Weekend will soon be here and a student group called Ontario Students Against Impaired Driving (OSAID) at Wellington Heights Secondary School in Mount Forest, along with Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and the North Wellington Fire Service will have a “mock crash” at the school.

It will take place on May 16, 2014 and is an initiative by the OSAID students with the hope of preventing impaired and distracted driving. A motor vehicle donated by Streamline Towing will be used for a demonstration by the Fire Service using the Jaws of Life. The OPP Rollover Simulator will be on site to demonstrate the importance of seat belts.

FIRE DESTROYS BARN

(MUNICIPALITY OF MEAFORD, ON) – On Tuesday, May 6, 2014 at approximately 1:38 a.m., Grey County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) report of a barn fire on Sideroad 4 in the Municipality of Meaford.

The 7000 square foot, 150 year old barn containing 700 bales of hay was destroyed. There were no injuries or loss of livestock reported.

The Meaford Fire Department attended the scene. The cause of the fire was undetermined.

Barn Collapse – 2,000 Pigs Killed

(GUELPH-ERAMOSA TOWNSHIP, ON) -On May 6, 2014 at approximately 8:48 p.m., Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) attended a farm on Jones Baseline, Guelph-Eramosa Township for a collapsed barn that contained 2500 pigs. At the time of the collapse two workers were inside the barn and were uninjured. Efforts were made by those on scene including local farmers, and emergency services to save as many pigs as possible. As a result of the efforts, approximately 500 pigs were saved.

Guelph Fire Department and Guelph-Wellington Emergency Medical Services (EMS) attended to assist. The Ministry of Environment was contacted and attended.

Richard Joseph GRANDBOIS – Attempt Murder

(NIPIGON, ON.) – On Monday May 5, 2014 at approximately 7:30 a.m. members of the Nipigon Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of a mischief at a residence on Hwy 11 and 17, Township of Stirling. A male reported to police that he woke in the early morning hours and when he attempted to exit his residence he found the door was secured from the outside. After forcing his way out of the residence, the occupier observed a propane gas line leading from a propane tank located next to the residence had been severed and a source of ignition had been placed beneath the venting propane fuel.

As a result of investigation, Nipigon OPP officers arrested and charged one male of Stirling Township. 49 year old Richard Joseph GRANDBOIS has been charged with Attempt to Commit Murder, Mischief Endangering Life, and Attempt Arson, Damage to Property contrary to the Criminal Code. The male remains in custody and is to appear before the court in Thunder Bay, Ontario on May 13, 2014 to answer to these charges.

Domestic Incident

(North Dundas) – On 06May14, at approximately 9:30pm, SD&G OPP officers responded to a report of a domestic incident on South St. Chesterville On.

The investigation revealed that a 39yr old male had attended the residence of his ex-wife and entered the residence uninvited.

The male was arrested and faces charges of:

– Unlawfully in Dwelling House
– Assault – Spousal
– Criminal Harassment – repeatedly follow, repeatedly communicate with, watch and beset, Threatening conduct
– Forcible Entry

He was held in custody pending an appearance in Cornwall court.

William WINSLOW – Drunk Driving

(Selwyn Township, ON) – On May 6, 2014, at approximately 11:47 p.m. officers from the Peterborough County OPP had occasion to investigate a motorist on Towerhill Road.

Officers patrolling the highway at the time noted a Chevrolets Pick Up Truck being operated on the road way in an erratic manner. As a result of the investigation 65 year old William WINSLOW of Selwyn Township was arrested and charged with, Having Over 80mgs of Alcohol in his Blood.

SOUTHEY was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in Peterborough Provincial Courts on June12, 2014

DRUG WARRANT LEADS TO CHARGES IN NAKINA

(Nakina, ON) – On May 2, 2014 members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) executed a search warrant at a residence on Birch Crescent in Nakina. The investigation and search were conducted by members of the Greenstone Detachment, the Community Drug Action Team and the North West Region Crime Unit.

During the execution of the warrant officers seized a large quantity of drugs with an estimated value of approximately $9,350. Drug trafficking paraphernalia was also seized during the search.

As a result, 54 year old James BYERLEY of Nakina has been charged with Possession of a Schedule II Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking contrary to section 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act and Possession of a Schedule I Substance contrary to section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.

The accused was released from custody and has a scheduled court appearance in Geraldton Criminal Court on May 8, 2014.

BICYCLIST SUSTAINS SERIOUS INJURIES

(TOWNSHIP OF PERTH EAST, ON) On Tuesday May 06, 2014, shortly before 5:30 p.m., Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers were dispatched to a bicycle crash on Line 40 north of Shakespeare.

Investigation revealed that the bicyclist was west bound on Line 40, west of Perth Road 107. The bike was travelling down a hill at a high rate of speed, when the rider was observed struggling to control the handlebars and front wheel. The bicyclist lost control and crashed, causing the man’s head and body to impact the pavement. The male was not wearing a bicycle helmet at the time of the crash.

The 42 year old male, a Township of Perth East resident was transported to local hospital with serious injuries. He was later transported to a London hospital for further treatment.

Wearing a helmet gives you a real chance of walking away from a collision. At the start of the bicycling season this crash serves as a reminder for all of us to wear our helmets.

The Highway Traffic Act states that; every cyclist under the age of eighteen must wear an approved bicycle helmet. Parents or guardians shall not knowingly permit cyclists under sixteen to ride without a helmet.

Adults are urged to wear an approved bicycle helmet, as they can greatly reduce the risk of permanent injury of death in the event of a fall or collision. Parents can be a good example for their children by always wearing their helmets when biking.

MALE CHARGED WITH SEVERAL OFFENCES

(Bancroft, Ontario) – On Sunday May 04th 2014, the Bancroft detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received the report of a vehicle theft from Village Street in the Municipality of Hastings Highlands. Investigation revealed that a Plymouth Acclaim had been stolen from a residence overnight.

Following an investigation, the motor vehicle was recovered in the Bancroft area and an adult male has been arrested in relation to the incident. 19 year old Jonathon RALLISON of Bancroft, Ontario has been charged with possession of marihuana, theft of motor vehicle and mischief under. He has been released from custody on a promise to appear with conditions and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Bancroft on the 10th of June 2014.

OPP INVESTIGATING BREAK AND ENTER

(NORFOLK COUNTY, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Norfolk County Detachment is investigating a Break and Enter at a Talbot Street South, Simcoe, Norfolk County, Ontario address.

On Tuesday, May 6, 2014 between 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m., unknowns attended the residence and gained entry. Once inside, unknowns proceeded to remove a quantity of prescription medication.

The Norfolk County OPP Detachment is continuing to investigate and is seeking assistance from the public. If anyone has any information regarding this incident, they are being asked to contact the Norfolk County OPP Detachment at 1-888-310-1122.

COPPER WIRE STOLEN FROM POWERLINE ROAD PROPERTY

(COUNTY OF BRANT, ON) – The County of Brant Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), officers are investigating the theft of copper wire from a secure Hydro One compound on Powerline Road in the County of Brant.

Sometime between 10:00 p.m. May 1st, 2014 and 5:00 a.m. May 5th, 2014 suspects entered the compound and removed approximately 60 feet of copper wire.
