Male Charged with Impaired Driving

(GRAVENHURST, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Bracebridge detachment members have charged a male for impaired driving in Gravenhurst following a traffic stop.

On May 10, 2014 at 11:45 pm a small pickup truck was observed travelling at a high rate of speed out of a parking in Gravenhurst. The officers stopped the vehicle and found the driver had been drinking and was impaired by alcohol. The male was arrested and was found have well over the legal limit of alcohol in his blood.

The 52-year-old male from Gravenhurst has been charged with

253(1)(a) Driving while ability impaired

253(1)(b) Driving with more than 80mg of alcohol in blood

733.1(1) Fail to comply with probation order

The male will attend Bracebridge court on the morning of June 10, 2014 to answer to his charges.

NEIGHBOUR DISPUTE ENDS IN ARREST

(TRENT HILLS, ON) – On Tuesday May 12, 2014 Northumberland Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) members received a report that male was assaulted by his neighbour in the Green Acres area in the Municipality of Trent Hills.

OPP attended to the River Road address at approximately 5:32 pm on May 12 after a 911 call was made about an assault. The 24 year old male victim reported that the male suspect had come to his residence uninvited, confronting him about a stolen toilet and struck him in the face several times. The suspect then fled the residence prior to police responding. The victim did not require medical attention at hospital.

OPP officers conducted an investigation and arrested the male suspect at a relative of the victim’s residence.

Duarte Coelho AGUIAR, 38 from Campbellford has been charged with one count of assault. The accused has been released on a promise to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice on Tuesday June 3, 2014 in Brighton at 9:30 am.

OPP INVESTIGATE ARMED ROBBERY

(New Tecumseh, ON.) -At 9:53 am May 14, 2014 Nottawasaga OPP were dispatched to an Armed Robbery on Victoria Street in Downtown Alliston .

Preliminary investigation reveals lone male armed with knife robbed the Fast Cash store and stole an undisclosed amount of cash and fled on foot.

Central Region OPP K-9 and Emergency Response Team were on scene and are conducting a track. Central Region Forensic Identification Unit, Crime Unit and Nottawasaga Street Crime Unit are also on site assisting in investigation.

No further details will be released as this time. This is an ongoing criminal investigation.

OPP Officer Charged With Assault

(SMITH FALLS, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Professional Standards Bureau (PSB) has charged an OPP officer as a result of an investigation regarding a domestic related incident.

The officer who is assigned to the OPP East Region has been charged with two counts of assault contrary to the criminal code and has been placed on administrative duties.

The OPP will not be releasing any further information in regards to this investigation in order to protect the identity of the victim.

TRACTOR TRAILER DRIVER ARRESTED FOR IMPAIRED ON HIGHWAY 10

(CALEDON, ON) – On May 4, 2014 shortly before 11:30 pm, a concerned citizen contacted the Caledon Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) to report a possible impaired driver on Highway 10. The caller reported that a tractor trailer was travelling erratically, moving between multiple lanes without reason and onto the gravel shoulder of the highway. The citizen further reported that other motorists on Highway 10 had to take evasive action in order to prevent a collision from occurring. Officers attended the area, located the tractor trailer north of Olde Base Line Road and conducted a vehicle stop to check on the driver’s sobriety. Upon speaking with the driver, officers immediately detected a strong odour of an alcoholic beverage on the driver’s breath.

Subsequently, the driver was arrested for Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle and he was transported to the Caledon Detachment for further testing.

In conclusion, Amarjit GREWAL, 38, of Brampton was arrested and charged with Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Over 80 and Dangerous Driving of a Motor Vehicle.

The Administrative Drivers’ Licence Suspension (ADLS) program was initiated and his motor vehicle was impounded for seven days.

The accused is scheduled to make his first appearance at the Ontario Court of Justice in Orangeville on July 10, 2014.

If you suspect that someone is driving or is about to drive impaired, call 9-1-1 and report it. If you see that someone is impaired and intends on driving, do not let them drive.

SEARCH WARRANT SUCCESSFUL FOR STOLEN PUPPY

(BRIGHTON, ON) – On Tuesday May 12, 2014 Northumberland Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) executed a search warrant on a residence in the Municipality of Brighton where a stolen puppy from another OPP jurisdiction was located.

On Friday April 18, 2014 Caledon OPP investigated a break, enter and theft to a residence on Highway 9 in Caledon where a Chihuahua puppy was reported stolen from a breeder.

Northumberland OPP Crime Unit was contacted in early May as investigators in Caledon received information on a possible whereabouts of the dog. A Criminal Code search warrant was executed on a County Road 2 property where the 12 week old female puppy “April” was located. The Chihuahua is described as brown head with a white body and weighs about three pounds. Its identity has been confirmed and returned to its rightful owner.

Leona Joy BOTTING, 38 from Brighton, Ontario has been charged with one count each of the following Criminal Code offences:

Theft Under $5,000
Possession of Property Obtained by Crime -Under $5,000
Break and Enter with Intent to Commit an Indictable Offence
Failing to Comply with Undertaking Given to an Officer in Charge

She was released on a promise to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg on Wednesday June 11, 2014 at 9:30 am.

ASSAULT ARREST

(POINT EDWARD, ON) Lambton Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers responded to a complaint about an assault involving a male and a female on May 14, 2014 just after 4:00 a.m. near Louisa Street and Charles Street.

As a result of the OPP investigation, a 24 year old male from Sarnia has been arrested. He remains in custody awaiting a Sarnia court appearance on May 14, 2014 to speak to the charges of:

The female victim did not go to hospital at the time of the investigation.

VICTIM RE-UNITED WITH HER PUPPY

(CALEDON, ON) – On April 18, 2014 officers from the Caledon Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) investigated a break and enter to a Highway 9 residence. During the investigation, police learned that the victim was a Chihuahua breeder and one of her puppies “April” had been stolen. The victim reported to officers that she would allow potential buyers to attend her residence to view and socialize with their potential puppy. Earlier that day, a Brighton resident who had placed a deposit on a Chihuahua, attended the victim’s home and spent time with her future puppy.

Two days later, the Brighton resident contacted the breeder requesting a return on her deposit.

On May 13, 2014 officers from the Street Crime Unit (SCU) of the Caledon Detachment along with members from the Northumberland OPP Detachment executed a Criminal Code search warrant at a residence on County Road 2 in Brighton. Officers located the resident in possession of “April”, the stolen Chihuahua.

Subsequently, Leona Joy BOTTING, 38, of Brighton was arrested and charged with Break and Enter, Theft Under $5000, Possession of Property Obtained by Crime and Breach of an Undertaking.

She is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Coburg on June 11, 2014.

“April”, the 3-lb Chihuahua’s identity was confirmed and returned to its’ rightful owner.

Cathleen BODNARCHUK – Drunk Driving

(WEST PARRY SOUND, ON) – On May 12, 2014 at 7:12 p.m. a member of the West Parry Sound Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) stopped behind a stationary vehicle on the shoulder of Highway 69 in Archipelago Township to render assistance. Upon contact with the driver, the officer beleived that the driver had previously drank alcoholic beverages. The driver was arrested and further investigation revealed that the driver had a suspended licence.

Cathleen BODNARCHUK, 40 years of age from Muskoka Lakes Township, was charged with the following:

– Care and control of a motor vehicle, over 80 mgs. contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada (CCC)

– Drive while disqualified, contrary to the CCC

– Drive while under suspension, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act (HTA)

The accused will appear before the Ontario Court of Justice Parry Sound on June 5, 2014 to answer to her charges.

THIEVES/VANDALS TARGET SWEABURG – 4 Youths Charged

(SOUTHWEST OXFORD TOWNSHIP, ON.) – The Oxford County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) investigated a rash of vehicle entries, thefts and mischief that occurred throughout the Village of Sweaburg overnight on Friday May 2, 2014.

As a result of the investigation 4 males known to each other were all charged under the Criminal Code of Canada.

A 17 year old male of Sweaburg, a 17 year old male of Innerkip, a 17 year old male of Burgessville and a 15 year old male of Sweaburg were all charged with:

Break, Enter a place – with intent to commit indictable offence ~ 2 counts
Theft Under $5000 ~ 5 counts
Mischief Under $5000 ~ 3 counts
Trespassing at Night
Possession Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000

The youths cannot be identified under the Youth Criminal Justice Act. All four were held for bail hearings and appeared in the Ontario Court of Justice in Woodstock.

MISCHIEF TO AREA SCHOOL AND PARK FIELDS

(HALIBURTON, ON) – On May 14, 2014 at 2:15 am Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Haliburton Highlands Detachment responded to a vehicle driving on the football field at Haliburton Highlands Secondary School on County Road 21 in the Municipality of Dysart et al, Ontario. Police arrived to find that the vehicle had fled the scene but had caused significant damage to the field by doing donuts on the grass area of the field. Shortly after that police responded to a similar event in Minden Ontario where the baseball fields were damaged. At approximately 5:00 am police located a 2003 Chevrolet Malibu vehicle and the occupants at a park on Pacific road in Minden. More damage had been caused at that location and the vehicle eventually became disabled which ended the crime spree. OPP arrested the three vehicle occupants and as a result the following persons were charged:

Sasha WHITE age 20 from Minden charged with Impaired Operation, Operating a Motor Vehicle with Over 80 Milligrams of Alcohol, and Mischief Over $5000

Rachel POLLARD age 20 from Minden charged with Mischief Over $5000

Sydney CARRIERE age 19 from Minden charged with Mischief Over $5000

The accused are scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Minden on July 02, 2014.

Missing Person Update: Post Mortem To Be Conducted

(Kenora, ON) On May 13, 2014, members of the Kenora Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and Emergency Response Team (ERT) conducted a missing person search for Hughie WHISKEYJACK, age 47 from Kenora. WHISKEYJACK was reported missing on May 12, 2014 and was last seen at Separation Rapid’s Camp off the English River Road.

On May 13, 2014, OPP members located WHISKEYJACK, who was deceased. WHISKEYJACK was located close to where he was last observed. A post mortem examination to be conducted on May 14, 2014.

SKID STEER STOLEN

(Cavan Monaghan Township, ON) – On May 13, members of the Peterborough County OPP were called to investigate a report of a theft of a yard work vehicle from a property that occurred on Moncrief Line.

Unknown suspect(s) attended the property and stole a Bob Cat Skid Steer and left the area.

ONTARIO LAW ENFORCEMENT TORCH RUN FOR SPECIAL OLYMPICS

(WEST PARRY SOUND, ON) – On Wednesday May 21 2014 the Ontario Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics will be going through the Town of Parry Sound.

Officers with the OPP, Provincial Corrections, Canada Border Services Agency, the RCMP and other law enforcement partners, along with local Special Olympians will be running and walking to raise funds for and awareness of Special Olympics.

The Law Enforcement Torch Run is the largest source of funds for Special Olympics Ontario, which supports more than 19,000 athletes with intellectual disabilities. The District of Parry Sound has an amazing group of Special Olympics athletes.

The event will begin at 10 a.m. from the Parry Sound Fire Hall and will finish at the Royal Bank of Canada.

Runners will have their collection buckets ready for those who wish to make a donation.

ATV COLLISION RESULTS IN SERIOUS INJURIES

A 34 year old Rodney, ON man is in serious condition after being involved in an ATV collision yesterday May 13, 2014.

Police were called to the collision at approximately 9pm in the area of Queens Line just West of Kerr Road, West Elgin. The lone male was operating the ATV eastbound on Queens line when he lost control of the ATV causing it to roll. The male was not wearing a helmet and sustained severe injuries. He was transported to hospital in serious condition with life threatening injuries.

Police continue to investigate the collision.
