Fatal Collision – Two Impaired Drivers Charged

(HOWICK TOWNSHIP, ON) – A two-vehicle intersection-related motor vehicle collision involving a passenger vehicle and a pickup truck claimed the life of a 45-year-old Municipality of Brockton resident on November 5th, 2023.

On early Sunday morning at 12:01 a.m., November 5th, 2023, Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Huron County Paramedic Services and the Howick Fire Department responded to the intersection of Howick-Turnberry Road and Fordwich Line in Howick Township after receiving a 9-1-1 call about a collision.

Upon arrival, emergency services located both heavily damaged vehicles and discovered that a total of three occupants were involved. Both drivers received injuries and were transported to local hospitals. A passenger was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Members from the West Region OPP Traffic Incident Management & Enforcement (TIME) Team attended the scene to assist with the collision investigation. 

As a result of the investigation, both involved drivers have now been charged with criminal offences.

Matthew KAUFMAN, 32 years-of-age from South Bruce has been charged with: 

–      Operation while Impaired – blood drug concentration,

–      Operation Causing Death,

–      Operation Causing Bodily Harm,

–      Dangerous Operation Causing Death,

–      Dangerous Operation Causing Bodily Harm,

–      Possession of Schedule I Substance – Cocaine.

The accused was arrested on March 7th, 2024, and later released with a court appearance scheduled in the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich on April 22nd, 2024.

Teresa HAMMIL, 45 years-of-age from Hanover has been charged with:

–      Operation while Impaired – blood drug concentration,

–      Possession of Schedule I Substance – Methamphetamine,

–      Possession of a Schedule III Substance – Psilocybin.

The accused was additionally charged with an offence found in the Cannabis Act: (Possession of over 30 grams dried Cannabis in Public Place).

The accused was arrested on March 21st, 2024, and later released with a court appearance scheduled in the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich on May 6th, 2024.

One Dead In Side-by-Side Incident

(TUDOR & CASHEL TWP, ON) – The Central Hastings Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is investigating after one person was located deceased following an off-road vehicle incident.

First responders were called to an Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Club (OFSC) trail, north of Cleveland Road in Tudor and Cashel Township on April 7, 2024, shortly before 3:30 p.m.

A side-by-side off-road vehicle had left the trail and had rolled over in deep water.

OPP officers and Madoc Township Firefighters were able to free the man from the vehicle and Hastings-Quinte Paramedics were at the scene. The male, identified as a 65-year-old from Prince Edward County, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Customer Kills Store Employee In Elora

(TOWNSHIP OF CENTRE WELLINGTON, ON) – On April 6, 2024, at approximately 3:15 p.m., Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to injury at a business on Wellington Road 18, Elora. It was reported that a customer had caused serious injuries to an employee when they struck them with their vehicle.

OPP, Centre Wellington Fire Rescue and Guelph-Wellington Paramedic Service responded. A 67-year-old male from Fergus was pronounced deceased at scene.

The Office of the Chief Coroner and the Ministry of Labour were notified. The investigation is ongoing.

Fatal 3 Vehicle Collision

(BRANT COUNTY, ON) – A three-vehicle collision has claimed the life of one individual.

On April 6, 2024, at approximately 9:30 a.m., members from the Brant detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) with assistance from Brant County Fire Services of Burford, as well as Brant County and Oxford County Paramedic Services, responded to a collision involving three vehicles on Highway 403, County of Brant.

The investigation determined that two passenger vehicles and a transport truck were involved in the collision.

A 33-year-old from Milton was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Four other occupants of the passenger vehicles were transported to hospital with minor injuries, and the driver of the transport truck was not injured.  

The West Region OPP Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement (TIME) Team is assisting with the investigation.

The westbound lanes of Highway 403 were closed for several hours but have since re-opened.

Fatal Collision

(PICTON, ON) – Members of the Prince Edward County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) continue to investigate a collision on Main Street Monday.

On April 1, 2024, shortly before 3:00 p.m., officers responded to a single vehicle collision on Main Street near Paul Street. Information obtained stated the 71-year-old driver was unconscious. The individual was transported to hospital where they were pronounced deceased. Preliminary information shows the individual had a medical episode prior to the collision.

While responding to the collision, a police cruiser was struck on its driver side. There were no injuries to either driver.

OPP would like to remind drivers to be aware of emergency vehicles responding to emergencies. Vehicles are directed to pull to the right when directed by emergency crews or vehicles.

Fatal Collision

(NORFOLK COUNTY, ON) – Police are investigating the details of a collision that resulted in the loss of one individual’s life and left another individual hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.

At approximately 11:13 a.m. on Wednesday, April 3, 2024, officers from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Norfolk County Detachment, with assistance from the Norfolk County Fire Department and Norfolk County Paramedic Services, responded to a collision involving two vehicles at the intersection of Highway 24 and Concession 13 Townsend in Simcoe, Norfolk County.

As a result, one of the drivers, a 90-year-old resident of Norfolk County, was transported to a nearby hospital with severe life-threatening injuries and was later pronounced deceased. The other driver was also transported to a nearby hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.

Highway 24 between Windham Road 12 and Thirteenth Street West is expected to remain closed for the next several hours.

Fatal Hit & Run – Suspect At Large

(WHITBY, ON) – Officers from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Highway Safety Division (HSD) – Whitby Detachment, are investigating a collision that resulted in one fatality.

On Tuesday April 2, 2024, at approximately 9:50 p.m., the OPP were called to a collision on Highway 412 southbound near Taunton Road in the Region of Durham. The collision involved a pedestrian and at least one vehicle.

The pedestrian, a 50-year-old from Deep River was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the vehicle did not stop and may not be aware they hit a person. Foul play is not suspected.

The OPP-HSD Traffic Support Unit is assisting with the ongoing investigation.

Fatal 3 Vehicle Collision – Hwy 86 Closed

(PERTH EAST, ON) – One person is deceased following a collision involving three motor vehicles in Perth County.

On March 30th , 2024, just after 4:00 p.m., Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Wellington County OPP, Perth East Fire Services, Mapleton Fire Services, Perth County Paramedic Services, and ORNGE responded to a report of a three-vehicle collision on Line 86 between Road 121 and Road 124 in the Township of Perth East.

A 64-year-old resident of North Perth was pronounced deceased at the scene.

One person was transported to a trauma center by ORNGE.

Four people were transported to local hospital.  

Perth Line 86 remains closed between Road 121 and Road 124 due to the on-going investigation. Members of the West Region OPP Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement (TIME) Team are assisting Perth County OPP with the investigation.

Double Fatal Collision

(NORTHUMBERLAND, ON) – The Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is currently investigating a fatal two vehicle collision in Alnwick-Haldimand Township.

On Friday March 28, 2024, at approximately 11:30 p.m., members of the Northumberland OPP, with assistance from Fire and EMS, responded to a report of a serious collision on County Road 45 near Beagle Club Road.

Sadly, as a result of the collision, the drivers of both vehicles and a passenger were confirmed deceased. Two other passengers were transferred to hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries.

County Road 45 was closed between County Road 22 and Beagle Club Road during the investigation and has recently reopened.

The investigation is ongoing.

2 Charged In Death Of 15 Year Old

(BOURGET, ON) – The Russell County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has laid criminal charges against two individuals after a lengthy investigation of a fatal collision.

On August 26, 2023, Russell County OPP, assisted by the OPP Traffic Incident Management Enforcement Team (TIME) responded to a collision, involving a modified golf cart, in Bourget. As a result of the single motor vehicle collision, a 15-year-old passenger was ejected and died from the injuries sustained from the collision.

Following a lengthy investigation by detectives of the Russell County OPP Crime Unit, two individuals were arrested and charged with Criminal Code (CC) offences.

On March 18, 2024, a 17-year-old youth was charged with:

  • Dangerous Operation Causing Death
  • Operation Causing Death  

On March 26, 2024, a 45-year-old from Bourget, Ontario was arrested and charged with:

  • Criminal Negligence Causing Death

The individuals are scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in L’Orignal at a later date.

Hwy 10 Double Fatal Collision

(CALEDON, ON) – Officers from the Caledon Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) continue to investigate a fatal collision on Highway 10.

On March 19, 2024, at approximately 8:30 p.m., emergency services responded to a two-vehicle collision on Highway 10, near Escarpment Sideroad, in the Town of Caledon. The incident involved two passenger vehicles. An 85-year-old male and an 86-year-old female from Amaranth were pronounced deceased on scene, while a third individual sustained serious injuries, but is in stable condition.

Fatal Collision In Lakeshore

(LAKESHORE, ON) – On March 20, 2024, at approximately 6:00 a.m., the Lakeshore detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of a collision near Old Tecumseh Road, Community of Puce, Municipality of Lakeshore.

Members of Lakeshore OPP, Lakeshore Fire Rescue and Essex Windsor Emergency Medical Services (EMS) attended the Via railway tracks between Old Tecumseh Road and Puce Road.

Investigation determined that a pedestrian was struck by a train and pronounced deceased at the scene.

There was a police presence in the area however no roads were closed for the investigation.

Lakeshore OPP, Vial Rail Police and the Office of the Chief Coroner continue to investigate.

Fatal Collision On Hwy 10

(CALEDON, ON) – Officers from the Caledon Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are investigating a fatal collision on Highway 10.

On March 19, 2024, at approximately 8:30 p.m., officers, along with Caledon Fire and Emergency Services and Peel Paramedic Services, responded to a two-vehicle collision on Highway 10, near Escarpment Sideroad, in the Town of Caledon. The incident involved two passenger vehicles. One vehicle had two occupants, which were both pronounced deceased on scene. The lone occupant of the other vehicle was transported to hospital and is in stable condition. The identities of the victims are not yet available.

Highway 10 between Charleston Sideroad and Escarpment Sideroad was closed for several hours while the OPP Technical Collision Investigators and Reconstructionists assisted with the investigation.

Fatal Collision Closes Hwy 7

(CITY OF KAWARTHA LAKES, ON) – Members of the City of Kawartha Lakes Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have closed Highway 7 for a serious collision involving four vehicles, east of Oakwood. 

On March 19, 2024, at approximately 6:08 p.m., officers responded, alongside with Kawartha Lakes Fire and EMS, to a head on collision involving four motor vehicles on Highway 7, east of Taylors Road

The driver, a 27-year-old male from Lindsay, was pronounced deceased at the scene. A 65-year-old from North Bay, was transported to local hospital with minor injuries.

Highway 7 is closed from Opmar Road to Taylors Road for the foreseeable future while members of the OPP Traffic Incident Management Team (T.I.M.E.) conduct their investigation.

Collision Update: Driver From Mount Forest Now Deceased

(TOWNSHIP OF CENTRE WELLINGTON, ON) – A 47-year-old Mount Forest driver involved in a collision along Wellington Road18, has succumbed to their injuries.

On March 1, 2024, at approximately 12:45 p.m., Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a serious, motor vehicle collision on Wellington Road 18, east of Fergus where a black Sport Utility Vehicle had left the roadway. The driver was transported to hospital but later died.
