Isaac BENNEWIES – Assault, Drunk Driving

(GODERICH, ON) – Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged a Central Huron resident with Assault and Impaired Driving following an incident in Goderich on August 09, 2024. 

Just after 10:00 p.m., Friday, August 09, 2024, Huron County OPP received a report of an assault that had just occurred on Suncoast Drive in the Town of Goderich. The victim of the assault advised police that the male suspect had departed in a vehicle and provided a description of the suspect and vehicle involved. Officers located the suspect vehicle on Huron Road and conducted a traffic stop. Police arrested the driver for assault and determined that they had been drinking alcohol prior to driving. The driver provided a breath sample at the roadside which resulted in a failure.

The accused was re-arrested and transported to the Huron OPP detachment where they provided breath samples before a qualified Intoxilyzer Breath Technician. Breath samples were provided to police which resulted in readings over the legal limit.

Isaac BENNEWIES, 20 years of age from Central Huron has been charged with:

–      Assault,

–      Operation while Impaired – Over 80.

The accused was additionally charged with an offence found in the Liquor Licence Control Act (LLCA).

The involved vehicle was towed and impounded for seven days, and the accused’ driver’s license was suspended for a period of 90 days.

The accused was released from custody with a court appearance scheduled at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich on September 23, 2024.

Dylan HERN – Drunk Driving

(CALEDON, ON) – Officers from the Caledon Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged the driver of a suspicious vehicle with impaired operation for having over three times the legal limit.

On August 24, 2024, shortly after 2:00 p.m., Caledon OPP responded to a suspicious vehicle call on Horseshoe Hill Road, near Beech Grove Side Road, in the Town of Caledon. During the investigation, officers formed grounds that the driver’s ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by alcohol and was subsequently arrested.

As a result of the investigation, Dylan HERN, 30, of Waterloo, was charged with:

• Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

• Operation while impaired – alcohol

• Having care or control of motor vehicle with open container of liquor

The accused is scheduled to attend the Ontario Court of Justice in Orangeville on September 12, 2024, to answer to the charges. The driver’s licence was also suspended for 90 days, and the vehicle impounded for seven.

Josiah STEWART Facing Numerous Charges

(MADOC TWP., ON) – A Belleville resident is facing numerous charges after a dangerous traffic incident on Highway 62 in Madoc Township.

An officer with the Central Hastings Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was on Highway 62 at Public School Road on Sunday, August 25, 2024, shortly before 6:30 p.m., when he observed a fast-moving pick-up truck heading north on the highway. It was being driven erratically, crossing the centre line and swerving onto the shoulder.

When the officer attempted to stop the vehicle, it accelerated away at speeds well over 150-kiloemtres per hour in an 80-zone. As the driver was heading directly toward the ongoing investigation into an earlier fatal collision in the area, the speeding pick-up posed a serious safety risk.

The pick-up driver eventually pulled over and stopped. The individual was arrested, and officers located cannabis products and alcohol. The driver was transported to the detachment for testing.

As a result of the investigation, Josiah STEWART, age 40 has been charged under the Criminal Code, Cannabis Control Act and Highway Traffic Act with:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drug
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Dangerous operation
  • Flight from a peace officer
  • Driving with cannabis readily available
  • Having care and control of a vehicle with cannabis readily available
  • Having care and control of a vehicle with liquor readily available
  • Stunt driving – excessive speed

The accused was released and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Belleville on September 12, 2024.

Mayank KAKKAR – Drunk Driving, Hit & Run

(HALDIMAND COUNTY, ON) – One individual was arrested following a single vehicle collision.

On August 25, 2024, at approximately 10:50 p.m., the Haldimand detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of a single vehicle collision on Rainbow Drive, Caledonia.

The investigation determined that a Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) left the roadway and struck a tree. The vehicle left the scene but was located soon after.

Upon speaking with the driver, it became apparent that they had consumed alcohol, and they were taken into custody.

As a result, 37-year-old Mayank KAKKAR of Caledonia has been charged with the following Criminal Code offences:

  • Operation While Impaired
  • Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 plus)
  • Failure to Stop after Accident

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cayuga on October 8, 2024.

Drunk Driver Arrested After Running Stop Sign

(FORT FRANCES, ON) – Failing to stop at a stop sign resulted in impaired driving charges for a Rainy River resident.

On August 25, 2024, at approximately 4:00 am an officer with the Fort Frances Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) stopped a vehicle in the 400 block of Armit Avenue after it failed to stop at a stop sign.  

The officer determined that the driver had been drinking and conducted a roadside screening device test. The driver failed the test and was arrested at the scene. The driver was transported to the Fort Frances Detachment where additional breath alcohol testing was completed by demand.

Brayden HOLMES, 21-years-old of Rainy River Ontario is charged criminally with one count of impaired operation alcohol and drug, and one count of impaired operation blood alcohol concentration 80 plus. The accused’s driver’s licence was suspended for 90 days, and their vehicle was impounded for seven days. The accused also received an offence notice for disobeying a stop sign.

The accused was released by police and is scheduled to appear in the Fort Frances Ontario Court of Justice on October 7, 2024, to answer to the criminal charges.

Fact about impaired driving, studies show that impairment becomes significant at a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of 50 mg / 100 mL and increases from then onward. Criminal impaired driving charges can be laid if any degree of impairment (drug or alcohol) is observed. If you plan to drink, do not plan to drive.

Teresa PRICE – Drunk Driving

(ORANGEVILLE, ON) – The Dufferin Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged a driver with an impaired operation related offence.

On August 23, 2024, just after 1:30 a.m., officers from Dufferin OPP were conducting a “Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere” (RIDE) spot check on Townline in the Town of Orangeville. A driver entered the program and the officers we led to an impaired operation investigation.

As a result, Teresa PRICE, a 60-year-old from Orangeville, has been charged with:

•      Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Orangeville to answer to the charges. Their driver’s license was suspended, and the vehicle was impounded.

The Dufferin OPP reminds motorist to plan ahead when consuming alcohol or drugs. Use a designated driver, cab, rideshare, public transit or stay overnight. Any amount of alcohol or drugs can impact your ability to make sound judgements.

Usman Ashfaq – Drunk Driving

(PICTON, ON) – A collision in Highway 62 has led to impaired driving charges.

On August 21, 2024, at approximately 9:45 p.m. members of the Prince Edward County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a collision on Highway 62 in Prince Edward County. As a result of the investigation, a driver was arrested and transported to the detachment for further testing.

Usman Ashfaq, age 30 of Scarborough has been charged with:

  • Operation while impaired
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration

The driver was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on September 11, 2024. They also had their drivers licence suspended for 90 days and vehicle impounded for a period of seven days.

Travis GLASS – Drunk Driving

(BROOKE-ALVINSTON, ON) – A traffic complaint led to an individual being arrested and charged with impaired driving.

On August 20, 2024, at approximately 7:22 p.m., the Lambton County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were notified of a possible impaired driver on Sexton Road in Brooke-Alvinston. Police attended the area and subsequently located the vehicle and driver.

As a result of the investigation, Travis GLASS, 54-year-old of Sarnia, was charged under the Criminal Code with the following offences:

  • Operation while impaired- alcohol and drugs
  • Operation while impaired- blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

A 90-day Administrative Driver’s License Suspension (ADLS) and a seven-day vehicle impoundment was initiated as per statute.

The accused has been released from police custody and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice on September 19, 2024, in the City of Sarnia to speak to the charges.

Michael HARTMAN – Drunk Driving

(DRYDEN, ON) – Members of the Ignace Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Detachment have arrested and charged one individual with impaired operation.  

On August 21, 2024, at approximately 11:00 p.m. members of the Ignace OPP Detachment conducted a traffic stop on Highway 17 in the Township of Ignace.

As a result of the investigation, it was determined that the driver of the motor vehicle had been impaired by alcohol/drug. The driver was subsequently placed under arrest and transported to the Ignace detachment OPP Detachment for further testing.

Michael HARTMAN, 55-years-old, of Calgary, Alberta has been arrested and charged under the Criminal Code with:

·         Operation while impaired by blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

·         Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs

The accused has been released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Ignace on October 2, 2024.

James WHALEN – Drunk Driving

(PICTON, ON) Members of the Prince Edward County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged a driver with impaired operation.

On Monday, August 19, 2024 at approximately 3:00 a.m. officers were conducting a RIDE program on Highway 62 in Prince Edward County. Officers spoke to a driver and further investigation led to an approved screening device being administered. As a result, the driver was arrested and transported to detachment for further testing. James WHALEN, age 39, from Belleville, was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration

The driver was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on September 11, 2024. They also had their drivers licence suspended for 90 days and vehicle impounded for a period of seven days.

Another Drunk Driver Arrested In Goderich

(GODERICH, ON) – Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged a Dublin area resident with an Impaired driving offence following a traffic stop in Goderich on August 04, 2024. 

Just before 10:30 p.m. Sunday, August 04, 2024, Huron County OPP were patrolling in the Town of Goderich when they stopped a vehicle on Mitchell Street. Police spoke to the driver and determined that they had been drinking alcohol prior to driving. The investigating officer demanded a roadside breath sample from the driver, which resulted in a failure.

The driver was arrested and transported to the Huron OPP detachment where they provided further breath samples before a qualified Intoxilyzer Breath Technician. Breath samples were provided to police which resulted in readings over the legal limit.

Jerrett VATERS, 25 years of age from Dublin has been charged with:

–      Operation while Impaired – Over 80.

The accused was additionally charged with offences found in the Cannabis Control Act and the Liquor Licence Control Act.

The involved vehicle was towed and impounded for seven days, and the accused’ driver’s license was suspended for a period of 90 days.

The accused was released from custody with a court appearance scheduled at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich on September 16, 2024.

Drunk Driver Arrested In Goderich

Police spoke to the driver and determined that the driver had been drinking alcohol prior to driving. The investigating officer determined that the driver’s ability to operate the motor vehicle was impaired by alcohol.

The driver was arrested and transported to the Huron OPP detachment where they provided breath samples before a qualified Intoxilyzer Breath Technician. Breath samples were provided to police which resulted in readings over the legal limit.

Antonio AFFORNALLI, 65 years of age from Toronto has been charged with:

–      Operation while Impaired – alcohol and drugs,

–      Operation while Impaired – Over 80.

The involved vehicle was towed and impounded for seven days, and the accused’ driver’s license was suspended for a period of 90 days.

The accused was released from custody with a court appearance scheduled at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich on September 09, 2024.

Jordan RANDALL – Drunk Driving

(NORTH BAY, ON) – Driver facing charges following traffic complaint.

On August 17, 2024, at approximately 3:15 a.m., the North Bay Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a driving complaint involving a sport utility vehicle (SUV). Police observed the subject vehicle on Highway 63, Phelps Township and conducted a traffic stop.

Through investigation, the driver, Jordan RANDALL, 29 years-of-age, of French Township was arrested for impaired operation and is charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in North Bay on September 24, 2024. They were issued a 90-day Administrative Drivers Licence Suspension (ADLS), and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

Logan SMITH – Drunk Driving

(ST. CLAIR TOWNSHIP, ON) – The Lambton County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) arrested and charged an individual with impaired driving following a traffic stop in Lambton County.

On August 18, 2024, at approximately 7:24 a.m., a member of Lambton County OPP conducted a traffic stop on Rokeby Line, St. Clair Township.

As a result of the investigation, Logan SMITH, 20-year-old of Cayuga, was charged under the Criminal Code, Cannabis Control Act, Liquor Licence and Control Act and the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act with the following offences:

  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • Drive vehicle or boat with cannabis readily available
  • Driving motor vehicle with open container of liquor
  • Fail to surrender insurance card

A 90-day Administrative Driver’s License Suspension (ADLS) and a seven-day vehicle impoundment was initiated as per statute.

The accused has been released from police custody and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice on October 3, 2024, in the City of Sarnia to speak to the charges.

Joleen WESLEY – Drunk Driving

(COCHRANE, ON) – A RIDE program yielded a charge for impaired driving in Cochrane.

On August 18, 2024, at approximately 11:30 p.m., the James Bay Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) stopped a vehicle on Highway 579 in Cochrane as part of a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) Program.

During the interaction, police determined that the driver had been consuming an alcoholic beverage. The driver was arrested and transported to the Kapuskasing detachment for further testing.

As a result of the investigation, Joleen WESLEY, 32 years of age of Cochrane, was charged with:

·        Operation while impaired – alcohol

·        Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on October 8, 2024, in Cochrane. The accused was also issued a 90-day Administrative Drivers Licence Suspension (ADLS), and the vehicle was impounded for 7 days.
