38 Year Old From Meaford Arrested – Details Released

(MEAFORD, ON) – A local driver is facing impaired driving charge after the Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a traffic complaint on a vehicle in the Municipality of Meaford.

On March 20, 2024, at 5:39 p.m., the Grey Bruce OPP received a call for service regarding a traffic complaint of vehicle being driven recklessly around the Municipality of Meaford. Officers located the vehicle on Nelson Street East in Meaford and conducted a traffic stop. While the officers were speaking to the driver, the driver was displaying signs of impairment. The driver was arrested and transported to the Grey Bruce OPP Detachment for further tests by a Qualified Breath Technician.

Steven Bates, 38-years-old of the Municipality of Meaford was charged with:

·      Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs

·      Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

The accused will appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Owen Sound on April 11, 2024.

21 Year Old Arrested – Name & Details Released

(DUFFERIN COUNTY) – The Dufferin Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged another driver with impaired operation related offences, during Impaired Driving Prevention Week.

On March 20, 2024, just before 10:00 p.m., officers from Dufferin OPP were conducting a R.I.D.E. (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) spot-check on First Line EHS and French Drive, in the Town of Mono. A driver entered the area and officers were quickly led into an impaired operation investigation.

Connor PIERCEY, a 21-year-old, from Kirkfield has been charged with:

•     Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

•     Young driver – B.A.C. above zero

•     Adult driving while under suspension

•     Adult driving motor vehicle with open container of liquor

The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Orangeville to answer to the charges. Their driver’s license was suspended, and the vehicle was impounded.

The Dufferin OPP reminds motorist to plan ahead when consuming alcohol or drugs. Use a designated driver, cab, rideshare, public transit or stay overnight. Any amount of alcohol or drugs can impact your ability to make sound judgements.

LOPEZ Arrested For Drunk Driving

(SHUNIAH, ON) – A single motor vehicle collision leads to impaired charges by the Thunder Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP).

On March 17, 2024, just after 5:30 a.m., members of the Thunder Bay OPP Detachment responded to a single motor vehicle collision on Lakeshore Drive in Shuniah. There were no serious injuries reported to police as a result.

Through investigation, it was determined that the driver was impaired by alcohol. The driver was subsequently placed under arrest and transported to the Thunder Bay OPP Detachment for further testing.

As a result, Thalia LOPEZ, 25-years-old, of Thunder Bay, has been arrested and charged under the Criminal Code with:

·        Operation While Impaired – Alcohol and Drugs

·        Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 plus)

The accused has been released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Thunder Bay on April 30, 2024.

More Impaired Drivers Arrested

(MOOSONEE, ON) – The James Bay Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have made their third impaired driving arrest of 2024 in Moosonee.

On March 14, 2024, shortly before 9:00 a.m., the James Bay OPP responded to a call of a suspected impaired driver, on the community ice road between Moosonee and Moose Factory.

Police located the subject vehicle, which was stuck on the ice adjacent to the ice road. Police determined that the driver had been consuming an alcoholic beverage, and the driver was arrested and transported to the Moosonee detachment for further testing.

As a result of the investigation, Kristin WABANO, 36 years of age of Moose Factory, was charged with operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs.

Also during this investigation, the passenger of the vehicle was actively obstructing police and as a result, Jessie GUNNER, 39 years of age of Moose Factory was arrested and charged with the following:

  • Obstruct peace officer
  • Resist peace officer

The two accused persons were released and are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on May 7, 2024 in Moosonee.

This arrest was the third arrest related to impaired driving made by the Moosonee detachment this calendar year.

On January 25, 2024, shortly after 8:00 a.m. the James Bay OPP responded to a call of a stolen taxi from a driveway on Hutchison Road in Moosonee. 

When police attended the scene, the suspect had already returned with the stolen vehicle, and was still sitting in the driver’s seat. Police determined that the driver had been consuming an alcohol beverage, and the driver was arrested and transported to the Moosonee detachment for further testing.

As a result of the investigation, Melanie SUTHERLAND, 24 years of age of Fort Albany was arrested and charged with the following:

  • Theft of a motor vehicle
  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Failure to comply with release order – two counts

The accused was released and the matter is still before the courts. The accused is next scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on April 17, 2024 in Moosonee.

On February 11, shortly after 6:00 p.m., the James Bay OPP responded to a call of a stolen vehicle in Moosonee, that was reported to be driving onto the community ice road between Moosonee and Moose Factory.

Police located the stolen vehicle a short time later on the ice road, stuck in a snowbank with minor damage (photo attached), however the driver had left the scene prior to police arrival.

An extensive search and patrol of the surrounding area led to the arrest of a 16-year-old person from Moosonee, who was charged with the following:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Fail to stop after an accident
  • Theft of a motor vehicle
  • Mischief under $5000
  • Obstruct peace officer
  • Drive motor vehicle – no licence

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on April 17, 2024 in Moosonee. The OPP will not be releasing the name of the accused under the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act (YCJA).

Jaedyn SIMMONS – Drunk Driving

(OXFORD COUNTY, ON) – Police arrested an impaired driver in Tillsonburg, thanks to multiple calls from the public, reporting traffic complaints.

At approximately 1:00 p.m. on Friday, March 15, 2024, the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Oxford Detachment, initiated a traffic stop in the Town of Tillsonburg after receiving multiple complaints for the same vehicle.

After speaking to the driver, police observed signs of impairment and made an arrest.

After conducting further testing at the detachment, Jaedyn SIMMONS, 25 years-of-age of Langton, was charged with the following Criminal Code offences:

·               Operation While Impaired

·               Operation While Impaired -Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 plus)

The accused has been released and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice located in Woodstock on May 7, 2024.

The OPP remind motorists that no amount of alcohol or drug is acceptable to consume and drive.

Hit & Run Drunk Driver Arrested – Bruno MILNE

(MUNIPALITY OF TRENT HILLS, ON) – One person has been charged following a single vehicle collision.

On March 18, 2024, at approximately 5:20 p.m., members of the Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a pick-up truck in a ditch in the vicinity of Concession Road 2 and Platt Road in Warkworth.

Officers shortly located the vehicle at Gravel Road having sustained damage. There were no injuries reported and following interaction with the driver, police were led into an impaired operation investigation.

As a result, the accused was arrested and transported to a detachment for further testing.

Bruno MILNE, 41-years-old from Warkworth has been charged with:

·        Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs

·        Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

·        Dangerous Operation

·        Drive motor vehicle, no currently validated permit

·        Fail to report accident

·        Fail to remain

·        Operate unsafe vehicle.

A further 90-day Administrative Driver Licence Suspension (ADLS) and a seven-day vehicle impound was initiated as per statute.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg at a future date.

Drivers continue to take chances. It’s simply not worth the risk. Motorists are reminded that no amount of alcohol or drugs in your system is safe when driving. If you plan on drinking or consuming drugs, plan to not drive. Instead, arrange for a designated driver, take a taxi or public transit, or come up with another plan that takes impaired driving out of the picture. If you suspect that someone is driving while impaired by alcohol or drugs, it is important to call 9-1-1 to report it.

Brittany NAYANOOKEESIC Arrested For Drunk Driving

(GREENSTONE) – One individual is facing impaired charges following a R.I.D.E program in Greenstone.

On March 16, 2024, just before 12:00 p.m., members of the Greenstone Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting a R.I.D.E program in the area of Highway 584 in the Municipality of Greenstone. A vehicle approached the program, and the driver was requested to provide a breath sample.

Through investigation, it was determined that the driver was impaired by alcohol. The driver was subsequently placed under arrest and transported to the Greenstone OPP Detachment for further testing.

As a result, Brittany NAYANOOKEESIC, 28-years-old, of Geraldton, has been arrested and charged under the Criminal Code and Cannabis Control Act with:

·      Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 plus)

·      Operation While Impaired – Alcohol and Drugs

·      Drive Vehicle or Boat with Cannabis Readily Available

The accused has been released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Greenstone on April 18, 2024.

More Impaired Drivers In Norfolk Arrested

(NORFOLK COUNTY, ON) – Three individuals were charged following an investigation into separate incidents of impaired driving.

At approximately 2:42 a.m. on Saturday, March 16, 2024, an officer from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Norfolk County Detachment conducted a traffic stop and investigation involving a motor vehicle on Bay Street in Port Rowan, Norfolk County.

After assessing the driver’s sobriety at the roadside, the driver was taken into custody without incident.

Charged with the following alleged offences is 25-year-old Marshal HAMMOND of Norfolk County:

  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus),
  • Speeding 1-49 km/h over posted speed limit.

The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice located in Simcoe on Tuesday, April 2, 2024.

At approximately 10:33 p.m., an officer from the Norfolk County OPP Detachment conducted a traffic stop and investigation involving a motor vehicle on James Street in Delhi, Norfolk County.

After assessing the driver’s sobriety at the roadside, the driver was taken into custody without incident.

Charged with the following alleged offences is 49-year-old Terri Lynn SCOTT of Norfolk County:

  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus),
  • Fail to stop on right for emergency vehicle,
  • Fail to surrender permit for motor vehicle,
  • Drive motor vehicle, no currently validated permit,
  • Fail to have insurance card.

The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice located in Simcoe on Tuesday, April 16, 2024.

At approximately 12:39 p.m. on Monday, March 18, 2024, officers from the Norfolk OPP Detachment responded to and investigated a report of a neighbour dispute on Adams Avenue in Delhi, Norfolk County.

It was determined that one of the individuals involved, who was suspected of being impaired, attempted to leave the area in a vehicle.

Responding officers located the vehicle at the address and, after assessing the driver’s sobriety at the roadside, took them into custody without incident.

Charged with the following alleged offence is 60-year-old Stephen EMRICH of Norfolk County:

  • Failure or refusal to comply with demand.

The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice located in Simcoe on Tuesday, April 9, 2024.

Hwy 11 Drunk Driver Arrested – Name Released

(COCHRANE, ON) – A traffic stop conducted by the James Bay Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) led to the driver being arrested for impaired driving.

On March 13, 2024, shortly before 8:00 p.m., the James Bay OPP conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle that was observed swerved within its lane, on Highway 11, south of Cochrane. 

Police determined that the driver had been consuming an alcohol beverage, and the driver was arrested and transported to the Iroquois Falls detachment for further testing.

As a result of the investigation, Dan KUZMICH, 64 years of age of Iroquois Falls, was charged with the following:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Driving a motor vehicle with an open container of liquor

The accused was released and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on May 28, 2024 in Cochrane. The accused was also issued a 90-day Administrative Drivers Licence Suspension (ADLS), and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

Midland OPP Weekend Update

(MIDLAND,ON) – Officers from the Southern Georgian Bay OPP Detachment were kept busy over March 14-17, 2024 with traffic related incidents on Detachment patrolled roadways.

Impaired Drivers Investigated

Officers conducting a reduce impaired driving everywhere (R.I.D.E.) program on Heritage Drive at Wye Valley Road, Midland checked the driver of a passing through vehicle for signs of impairment near 11:50 p.m. March 15, 2024 and entered into a drinking and driving investigation. As a result, Wayne BALKWILL 60-years of Toronto has been charged criminally with Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs and further with Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus).

A report of a vehicle being operated erratically in the Heritage Drive and King Street, Midland area caused officers to attend the area at approximately 11:17 p.m. March 14, 2024 who quickly located the suspect vehicle in a nearby parking lot. The driver was spoken to and arrested and investigated for drinking and driving offences.

Officers have charged Doreen STEVENSON 63- years of Oshawa criminally in relation to this investigation with the offences of Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs and further with Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus) and Dangerous operation.

Both accused persons were released from custody to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on March 28, 2024, served a 90 day driver’s licence suspension and the involved vehicles were towed and impounded for seven days in accordance to the Ministry of Transportation (ADLS) guidelines.

Serious Vehicle Crash Investigations

Investigators were dispatched at approximately 11:41 a.m. March 17, 2024 to a vehicle crash and roll-over in the ditch of Highway 12, Tay Township. As a result of the crash investigation the 21-year old (uninjured) male driver of Midland has been charged with the following offences – Class G1 licence holder – unaccompanied by qualified driver, Careless driving, Use plate not authorized for vehicle, Class G1 licence holder – carry front-seat passenger, Operate unsafe vehicle all contrary to the Highway Traffic Act and further with Operate a motor vehicle without insurance contrary to the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act.

Officers were also dispatched at approximately 6:53 p.m. March 13, 2024 to a single vehicle fatality on Simcoe County Road 27 in Tiny Township that was previously reported on March 14, 2024, which sadly claimed the life of a 31-year-old Tay Township male. The cause of that crash is still under investigation and investigators ask that anyone who may have witnessed the actions of the involved vehicle, a white Mini Cooper while east bound on Simcoe County Road 27 prior to the crash or of the crash itself or has dashcam video to contact the OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or [email protected].

Carrie MYLES – Drunk Driving

(BLIND RIVER, ON) – On March 17, 2024, at approximately 2:30 p.m. the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a call from a motorist regarding a possible impaired driver on Highway 17, Northshore Township.

The complainant reported following a white company truck swerving all over the road and having difficulty maintaining their lane. Police stopped the white truck and spoke to the driver. As a result, the driver was arrested and the vehicle was towed and impounded. 

Carrie MYLES, 35-years-old, from Hanmer was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – Alcohol and Drugs
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake on May 2, 2024.

Jeffrey GAGNE – Drunk Driving

(ADOLPHUSTOWN, ON) – Officers of the Lennox and Addington (L&A) County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged a driver with impaired driving.

On March 17, 2024, shortly after 7:00 p.m., officers from the L&A County OPP received a report of a possible impaired driver on the Glenora Ferry arriving at Highway 33 by Adolphustown. Police located the vehicle at a residence on County Road 8 by Highway 33. Police arrested the driver for impaired driving.

As a result of this investigation, L&A County OPP has charged Jeffrey GAGNE, age 60, of Napanee, with:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80plus)

The accused was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Greater Napanee on April 9, 2024. The accused’s licence was suspended for 90 days, and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

Danny DURNEZ – Drunk Driving

(MIDDLESEX CENTRE, ON) – On March 17, 2024, at 12:04 p.m., a member of the Middlesex County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), while on general patrol, observed a suspicious vehicle travelling on Ilderton Road in Middlesex Centre.

A traffic stop was initiated.

It was determined the driver had previously consumed alcohol. The driver was arrested and transported to the Middlesex OPP detachment where tests were administered.

As a result, Danny DURNEZ, a 64-year-old of London, has been charged under the Criminal Code and Liquor Licence Control Act with:

·      Operation while impaired – alcohol

·      Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

·      Driving motor vehicle with open container of liquor

The accused has been released from police custody and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice to speak to the charges on May 14, 2024.

The Middlesex OPP wants to remind the public that if you see anything suspicious or suspect an impaired driver you should contact the Ontario Provincial Police or your nearest police authority immediately.

The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Orangeville to answer to the charges. Their driver’s licence was suspended, and the vehicle was impounded.

On March 16, 2024, just after 11:30 p.m., officers from Dufferin OPP were conducting a R.I.D.E. (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) spot-check on Townline, in the Town of Orangeville. A driver entered the area and officers were quickly led into an impaired operation investigation.

Rachel CRONK, a 20-year-old female, from Orangeville has been charged with:

•      Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

•      Novice driver – B.A.C. above zero

•      Young driver – B.A.C. above zero

On March 16, 2024, just after 11:30 p.m., officers from Dufferin OPP were conducting a R.I.D.E. (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) spot-check on Townline, in the Town of Orangeville. A driver entered the area and officers were quickly led into an impaired operation investigation.

Bruce PATEL, a 34-year-old male, from Alton has been charged with:

•      Poss of a Schedule I Substance- Cocaine

•      Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

On March 17, 2024, just after 12:30 p.m., officers from Dufferin OPP were conducting a R.I.D.E. (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) spot-check on Townline, in the Town of Orangeville. A driver entered the area and officers were quickly led into an impaired operation investigation.

Kirk CRONK, a 60-year-old male, from Orangeville has been charged with:

•      Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

 The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Orangeville to answer to the charges. Their driver’s licence was suspended, and the vehicle was impounded.
