Courtney BRAY Was Arrested

(CITY OF KAWARTHA LAKES, ON) – Members of the City of Kawartha Lakes Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) entered into an impaired driving investigation on April 11, 2024.

On April 11, 2024, at approximately 00:41 a.m., officers conduced a traffic stop on a motor vehicle on Highway 35 at Highway 7 that entered a RIDE program after almost causing a head on collision while approaching the RIDE program. Through investigation the driver was arrested for impaired driving offences and several Highway Traffic Act offences.

Courtney BRAY, 30-year-old of Lindsay, was charged with:

  • Operation While Impaired Blood Alcohol Concentration over 80
  • Operation while Impaired
  • Operator Motor Vehicle without Insurance
  • Drive Vehicle with Cannabis Readily Available
  • Drive Motor Vehicle with Liquor Readily Available
  • Unsafe Move – lane or shoulder

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Lindsay at a later date. The motor vehicle was towed and impounded for 7 days.

If you plan on drinking or consuming drugs, plan to not drive. Instead, arrange for a designated driver, take a taxi or public transit, or come up with another plan that takes impaired driving out of the picture.

Police Officer Arrested For Drunk Driving

(Ottawa) — A member of the Ottawa Police Service has been charged with several offences in relation to an off-duty collision that occurred on March 17.  There were no injuries in the two-vehicle collision.

Cst. Cory Chuchryk has been charged with:

  • Impaired operations Sec 320.14 CC
  • Failure to stop after accident Sec. 320.16 CC
  • Dangerous driving Sec. 320.13 CC

He was released on an undertaking with a first appearance scheduled for May 7, 2024.

He has been placed on administrative duties.

Aidan O’MALLEY Was Arrested

(TECUMSEH, ON) – A three vehicle collision resulted in impaired charges on Tuesday night.

On Tuesday April 9, 2024, at approximately 10:52 p.m., the Essex detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of a three-vehicle collision on Howard Avenue at Highway 3 in the Town of Tecumseh.

One driver sustained minor injuries in the collision. A second driver was arrested on scene.

As a result of the investigation, Aidan O’MALLEY, 30-years-old of Windsor has been charged with the following Criminal Code offences:

·        Operation While Impaired

·        Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 plus)

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Windsor on April 18, 2024

Fatal Collision – Two Impaired Drivers Charged

(HOWICK TOWNSHIP, ON) – A two-vehicle intersection-related motor vehicle collision involving a passenger vehicle and a pickup truck claimed the life of a 45-year-old Municipality of Brockton resident on November 5th, 2023.

On early Sunday morning at 12:01 a.m., November 5th, 2023, Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Huron County Paramedic Services and the Howick Fire Department responded to the intersection of Howick-Turnberry Road and Fordwich Line in Howick Township after receiving a 9-1-1 call about a collision.

Upon arrival, emergency services located both heavily damaged vehicles and discovered that a total of three occupants were involved. Both drivers received injuries and were transported to local hospitals. A passenger was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Members from the West Region OPP Traffic Incident Management & Enforcement (TIME) Team attended the scene to assist with the collision investigation. 

As a result of the investigation, both involved drivers have now been charged with criminal offences.

Matthew KAUFMAN, 32 years-of-age from South Bruce has been charged with: 

–      Operation while Impaired – blood drug concentration,

–      Operation Causing Death,

–      Operation Causing Bodily Harm,

–      Dangerous Operation Causing Death,

–      Dangerous Operation Causing Bodily Harm,

–      Possession of Schedule I Substance – Cocaine.

The accused was arrested on March 7th, 2024, and later released with a court appearance scheduled in the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich on April 22nd, 2024.

Teresa HAMMIL, 45 years-of-age from Hanover has been charged with:

–      Operation while Impaired – blood drug concentration,

–      Possession of Schedule I Substance – Methamphetamine,

–      Possession of a Schedule III Substance – Psilocybin.

The accused was additionally charged with an offence found in the Cannabis Act: (Possession of over 30 grams dried Cannabis in Public Place).

The accused was arrested on March 21st, 2024, and later released with a court appearance scheduled in the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich on May 6th, 2024.

Bailey SCHWEYER Was Arrested

(HALDIMAND COUNTY, ON) – On April 6, 2024, at approximately 10:00 p.m., members of the Haldimand detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), responded to a suspicious vehicle complaint on Concession 6 Road, Fisherville. 

Police located the vehicle, and upon speaking with the driver, it became obvious that they had consumed alcohol.

An Approved Screening Device was administered at the roadside and as a result, the driver was placed under arrest. The accused was transported to the OPP detachment for further testing.

As a result of the investigation, Bailey SCHWEYER, 28-years-old of Fisherville has been charged with the following offences:

  • Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 plus)
  • Drive Motor Vehicle with Liquor Readily Available
  • Drive Vehicle or Boat with Cannabis Readily Available
  • Drive Motor Vehicle, No Currently Validated Permit

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cayuga on May 14, 2024.

Tyler BROSSEAU – Drunk Driving

(HALDIMAND COUNTY, ON) – A single vehicle collision resulted in impaired charges on the weekend.

On April 6, 2024, at approximately 7:00 p.m., the Haldimand detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of a single vehicle collision on Concession 4, Walpole.

The investigation determined that a vehicle left the roadway with the driver sustaining minor injuries.

As a result of the investigation, Tyler BROSSEAU, 31-years-old of Port Dover has been charged with the following Criminal Code offences:

·      Operation While Impaired

·      Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 plus)

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cayuga on May 28, 2024.

Ian WATSON – Drunk Driving

(HUNTSVILLE, ON) – The Huntsville Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) arrested and charged a driver after a vehicle struck another vehicle at a Seatbelt Enforcement check on the Easter Long Weekend.

On March 31, 2024, at approximately 4:55p.m., a vehicle rear-ended another vehicle on Highway 60 to Highway 11 Southbound. Officers were in the area ensuring occupants of vehicles were properly wearing their seatbelts when the collision occurred.

As a result of the investigation, Ian WATSON, 34 years of age, from the Town of Bracebridge was charged with:

·      Operation while impaired – BAC (80 plus)

·      Drive vehicle with cannabis readily available

·      Drive vehicle with liquor readily available

·      Drive vehicle with open container of liquor

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Bracebridge on May 21, 2024.

Yvon VAILLANCOURT Was Arrested

(NORFOLK COUNTY, ON) – An individual was charged following an investigation into an incident of impaired driving.

At approximately 3:43 p.m. on Friday, April 5, 2024, the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Norfolk County Detachment responded to and investigated a report of a pedestrian lying in the ditch next to a parked vehicle at a location on Lynedoch Road in Delhi, Norfolk County.

Upon arriving at the scene, officers established that the pedestrian was the driver of the vehicle. No injuries were reported.

After assessing the driver’s sobriety at the roadside, the driver was taken into custody without incident.

Charged with the following alleged offences is 76-year-old Yvon VAILLANCOURT of Norfolk County:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs,
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus).

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice located in Simcoe on Tuesday, May 21, 2024.

Hwy 11 Drunk Driver Arrested – Name Released

(DRIFTWOOD, ON) – An officer-initiated traffic stop, led to charges for impaired driving, and having open liquor and cannabis readily available in a vehicle.

On April 7, 2024, shortly after 4:00 p.m., a James Bay Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer observed a vehicle with inconsistent speeds and swerving from shoulder to centre line, on Highway 11 in Driftwood.   

A traffic stop was conducted, and police determined that the driver had been consuming an alcohol beverage. The driver was arrested and transported to the Cochrane detachment for further testing.

As a result of the investigation, Monique LAURIN, 57 years of age of Tiny Township, was charged with the following:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Drive vehicle with cannabis readily available
  • Driving motor vehicle with liquor readily available

The accused was released and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on April 23, 2024 in Cochrane. The accused was also issued a 90-day Administrative Drivers Licence Suspension (ADLS), and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

The OPP reminds everyone that impaired driving continues to be a serious and preventable crime with potentially devastating consequences. We urge all drivers to make responsible choices before getting behind the wheel. If you suspect someone is driving impaired, call 911 and report it.

Hayden LEBLANC – Drunk Driving

(THUNDER BAY, ON) – On April 7th, 2024 at approximately 11:20 p.m., officers from the Thunder Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting stationary radar along Highway 11-17 near Balsam Street & conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for speeding.

Through the investigation, it was determined the driver of the motor vehicle had been consuming alcoholic beverages, was placed under arrest & returned to the detachment for further tests.

As a result of the investigation, Hayden LEBLANC, 30, of Thunder Bay was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus);

The accused has been released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Thunder Bay on May 14th, 2024.

Two More Impaired Drivers – Names Released

(CALEDON, ON) – Officers from the Caledon Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have recently charged two motorists with operation while impaired.

On April 3, 2024, just before 12:00 a.m., Caledon OPP officers conducted a traffic stop upon a motor vehicle, while patrolling the area of Airport Road and Olde Base Line Road, in the Town of Caledon. Officers formed grounds that the driver’s ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by alcohol and was subsequently arrested.  

As a result, David BALDWIN, 48, of Caledon, was charged with:

·        Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

·        Novice driver – blood alcohol concentration above zero

On April 7, 2024, shortly after 12:00 a.m., Caledon OPP officers conducted a traffic stop upon a motor vehicle, while patrolling the area of Mayfield Road and McLaughlin Road, in the Town of Caledon. Officers formed grounds that the driver’s ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by alcohol and was subsequently arrested. 

As a result, Gurwinder DHALIWAL, 24, of Brampton, was charged with:

·        Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

Both drivers are scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Orangeville on April 25, 2024, to answer to the charges. Additionally, both vehicles were impounded for a period of seven days, and their driver’s licence suspended for a period of 90 days.

Connor HELE – Drunk Driving

(SELWYN TOWNSHIP, ON) – A driver has been charged with Impaired driving after their vehicle was stopped for speeding.

On April 6, 2024, at approximately 10:30pm, the Peterborough County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) stopped a vehicle for speeding on Chemong Road in Selwyn Township. The officer who was conducting speed enforcement, obtained a speed reading of 95km/hr in the posted 50km/hr zone and initiated a traffic stop.

While dealing with the driver, the officer detected an odour of alcohol and made an Approved Screening Device (ASD) demand. The driver provided a sample of his breath and as a result was arrested.

Connor HELE (age 24) of Selwyn Township, ON, was arrested and charged with:

·      Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

·      Drive Motor Vehicle – Perform Stunt – Excessive speed

The accused had their driver’s licence suspended for 90 days and vehicle impounded for 14 days.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Peterborough on May 7, 2024.

Bird Arrested After Parking Lot Nap

(MIDLAND,ON) – A member of the Southern Georgian Bay OPP Detachment while on patrol noted a vehicle parked in a no parking section of a business parking lot on County Road 93, Midland at approximately 1:07 pm April 5, 2024.

There appeared to be a person asleep behind the steering wheel and upon further investigation by the officer, the lone occupant was arrested for impaired driving and an investigation at Detachment was conducted to confirm the officers observations.

As a result, Mitchell BIRD 25-years-of Midland has been charged criminally with Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs and further with Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

The accused was released from custody to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on April 18, 2024, was served a 90 day driver’s licence suspension and the involved vehicle was towed and impounded for seven days in accordance to the Ministry of Transportation (ADLS) guidelines.

Detachment patrol officers set up eight Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (R.I.D.E.) programs checking 180 drivers for signs of impairment over the April 5-8, 2024 time frame in an effort to increase road safety here in North Simcoe.

Floyd FLORENT – Drunk Driving

(KILLALOE, ON) – Police have laid criminal charges on a driver after responding to a traffic complaint.

On April 7, 2024, just after 7: 00 p.m., members of the Killaloe Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), responded to a traffic complaint on Paradise Road, in the Township of South Algonquin.

As part of the investigation, the driver was transported to the detachment for further testing. As a result of the investigation, 63-year-old Floyd FLORENT of Whitney was arrested and charged with the following Criminal Code offences:

·      impaired operation; and,

·      impaired over 80.

The accused was released and is scheduled to appear in court on May 1, 2024, Ontario Court of Justice, Pembroke. The accused’s driver’s licence was suspended for 90 days, and the vehicle towed and impounded.

Hit & Run Drunk Driver Arrested – Name Released

(MCDOUGALL, ON) – The West Parry Sound Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have arrested and charged one person with impaired driving.

On April 4, 2024, shortly after 7:00 p.m. members of the West Parry Sound OPP responded to a single motor vehicle collision on Long Lake Estates Rd in the Township of McDougall. Witnesses report the driver fleeing the scene of the collision prior to police arrival, officers were able to locate and arrested the driver.

As a result of the investigation, Kelly WEAVER, 46 years-of-age of Parry Sound Ontario was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • Fail to remain at the scene of a collision

The accused was released and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on May 2, 2024. The accused was also issued a 90-day Administrative Drivers Licence Suspension (ADLS), and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
