Another Drunk Driver Loses Control

(BRANT TWP, ON) – On January 19, 2022 at 1:38 p.m., the South Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of a single vehicle collision along Bruce County Road 3 in Brant Township. Officers arrived and determined that the driver had been drinking alcohol.

Brandon WILSON, 44-years-old, of Brockton was charged with Impaired Driving, Operate over 80 milligrams and Having care or control of a vehicle with open Liquor. The accused is scheduled to appear in court on February 16, 2022 to answer to the charges.

The driver was taken to a local hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

Stolen Vehicles Abandoned

(NORTH PERTH, ON) – The vehicle thefts are continuing in Perth County.

The Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of a stolen truck on January 19, 2022, after it was taken sometime the previous night. The white 2002 GMC Sierra extended cab 3500 dually pick-up truck was taken from a residential driveway on Perth Line 88, after it was left unlocked with the keys inside.

Meanwhile, the suspects had used another vehicle in the theft – a black Honda car. After stealing the pick-up truck, the suspects ditched the Honda at a business on Perth Road 164, and fled the area. The investigation has revealed that the Honda car and the license plates attached to it were stolen out of another jurisdiction.

The Perth County OPP would like to remind citizens to keep all vehicles and buildings locked, and report any suspicious activity immediately. Consider installing security features, such as increased lighting, cameras, or alarms.

$100,000 Drug Bust In Dashwood

(SOUTH HURON, ON) – A drug trafficking investigation conducted by the Huron-Perth Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Community Street Crimes Unit (CSCU) has culminated this week in a major seizure of Fentanyl and other controlled drugs & weapons.

On Tuesday, January 18, 2022 members from the Huron-Perth OPP Community Street Crimes Unit (CSCU), Huron County OPP Detachment, OPP Tactics and Rescue Unit (TRU), West Region Emergency Response Team (ERT) and Canine executed a search warrant at a residence located on Centre Street in Dashwood. 

As a result of the execution of the search warrant, police seized large quantities of suspected Fentanyl, Methamphetamine, Heroin, Cocaine & Psilocybin (Magic Mushrooms).   

The combined estimated street value of the seized controlled substances is $110,928.   

In addition to the seized controlled substances, police also seized offence related property consisting of drug trafficking paraphernalia, a pill press, a cell phone and digital scales. Police also seized a .22 calibre rifle, a pellet gun, four imitation hand guns, a push dagger knife and stolen property consisting of an All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV), a band saw and a stolen street sign.    

Please note: An arrest warrant is currently being sought for the suspect in this case. An update will be provided when the suspect is taken into custody.

BOLO Stolen Snowmobile

(PERTH EAST, ON) – Another snowmobile was reported stolen from a property in Perth County earlier this week, this time in Perth East.

On January 17, 2022, the Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of a break and enter that had occurred at a property on Line 34, in the Township of Perth East. The suspect(s) had broken into a shed on the property, causing damage to a door, and stole a yellow, silver and black 2016 Ski-Doo XRS 800, valued at approximately $9,500.

The Perth County OPP would like to remind citizens to keep all vehicles and buildings locked, and report any suspicious activity immediately. Consider installing security features, such as increased lighting, cameras, or alarms.

Transport Truck Crashes Into Downtown Listowel

(NORTH PERTH, ON) – One person was taken to hospital following a single vehicle collision in Listowel.

On January 21, 2022, at approximately 8:00 a.m., the Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), along with the Perth County Paramedic Services, and the North Perth Fire Department, responded to a single vehicle collision on Main Street West, in Listowel. A commercial motor vehicle struck the front of a building.

One person, the driver of the vehicle, was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. There were no passengers or pedestrians involved in the collision.

Main Street West, between Wallace Avenue and Livingstone Avenue, is expected to be closed for a number of hours.

The cause of the collision is still under investigation. Information will be provided as it becomes available.

Weapon & Drug Bust – WHITFIELD, BAKER & CHAPMAN Facing Break & Enter Charges

(SOUTH HURON, ON) – Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has laid charges against four individuals following a break, enter and theft investigation at an Exeter business.

On January 4, 2022 Huron County OPP officers were notified of a break, enter and theft that took place at a storage facility in Exeter. Officers attended the scene and following some investigation officers were able to identify four suspects that were responsible for stealing numerous items from the units. 

On January 5, 2002 Huron County OPP arrested two of the suspects in Morris-Turnberry on a traffic stop. While searching the suspect’s vehicle, officers located and seized suspected fentanyl & methamphetamine, a prohibited knife and a prohibited weapon. Police also located and seized a stolen dirt bike that was contained inside a trailer being towed by the suspects. 

A third suspect was arrested by Huron County OPP in Clinton on January 11, 2022.

The fourth suspect remains wanted by Huron County OPP.

Sandy BAKER, 36 years of age from Wingham has been charged with: Break & Enter, Theft Under $5,000, Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Methamphetamine, Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Fentanyl, Unauthorized Possession of Weapons in a Vehicle (Flick Knife, Animal Spray, Arrow Shotgun & Butterfly Knife), Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose and Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000. The accused has since been released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for February 7, 2022 at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich.

Kelsey CHAPMAN, 21 years of age from Clinton has been charged with: Break & Enter, Theft Under $5,000, Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Fentanyl and Unauthorized Possession of Weapons in a Vehicle (Flick Knife & Animal Spray). The accused remains in custody with a court appearance scheduled for January 20, 2022 at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich.

Nollan WHITFIELD, 36 years of age from Wingham has been charged with:  Break & Enter, Theft Under $5,000, Fail to Comply with Probation Order and Breach of Recognizance. The accused has since been released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for February 28, 2022 at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich.

Huron County OPP has an arrest warrant for a fourth suspect involved in this incident.

30 Year Old From South Huron Facing Drunk Driving Charge

(BLUEWATER, ON) – Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged a South Huron resident with Impaired Operation – Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) 80 Plus stemming from a crash that took place in November of 2021.

On November 11, 2021 at approximately 3:22 p.m. Huron County OPP officers and Huron County Paramedic Services responded to a single motor vehicle crash located on MacDonald Road near Parr Line. Upon arrival first responders located a pickup truck that was completely destroyed after it had collided with a line of trees and caught on fire. 

The driver of the pickup was transported from the scene to a local hospital where he was treated and later released with minor injuries. 

Subsequent investigation determined the driver had a BAC above 80. 

Chad INSLEY, 30 years of age from South Huron has been charged with Impaired Operation – Blood Alcohol Concentration 80 Plus. He now has a court appearance scheduled for March 7, 2022 at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich.

34 Year Old From Bluevale Arrested

(TOWNSHIP OF CENTRE WELLINGTON, ON) – On November 17, 2021, members of the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (R.I.D.E.) check on Highway 6, in Centre Wellington. At approximately 9:00 p.m., the driver of a commercial motor vehicle entered the R.I.D.E. check.

As a result of the investigation, James REAMAN, 34-years-old of Bluevale, has been charged with Impaired Operation – 80 Plus (mgs of alcohol per 100mL of blood) contrary to the Criminal Code. A 90-day Administrative Driver’s License Suspension (A.D.L.S.) and a 7-day Vehicle Impoundment were initiated as per statute. The accused was scheduled to appear in the Ontario court of justice – Guelph.

60 Year Old From Howick Arrested

(NORTH PERTH, ON) – Another driver has been charged with impaired driving after a traffic stop in the Municipality of North Perth last week.

On January 13 2022, just before 9:00 p.m., a Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer on general patrol conducted a traffic stop with a vehicle on Tremaine Avenue South, Listowel. The driver was arrested and transported to a police operations centre for further examination by a Drug Recognition Evaluator (DRE).

Lance BRIGHTON, 60, of Howick Township, has been charged with:

–       Operation while Impaired – Alcohol and Drugs

–       Possession of Schedule I Substance – Opioid

A 90-day driving suspension and seven-day vehicle impoundment was initiated as per statute. The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Stratford at a later date to answer to the charges.

18 Year Old Drunk Driver Arrested

(CENTRAL HURON, ON) – A resident of Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh is facing an Over 80 charge following a traffic stop that took place last week. 

On Friday, January 14, 2022 at approximately 4:20 p.m. a member from the West Region OPP (Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement) TIME team initiated a traffic stop of a car in Clinton for an improperly displayed licence plate.

While speaking with the novice driver the investigating officer observed open alcohol inside the vehicle.  As a result of this, a roadside screening test was conducted on the driver and he registered a fail. The driver was subsequently placed under arrest and was transported to the Huron OPP Detachment for further testing. The accused later provided two samples of breath to the qualified Intoxilizer Technician and both tests were found to be above the legal limit.  

Cole POLLARD, 18 years of age, from Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh has been charged with Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) 80 Plus, Drive Motor Vehicle Plate Improperly Displayed, Novice Driver BAC Above Zero and Drive Motor Vehicle with Open Container of Liquor. 

The accused has a court appearance now scheduled for February 14, 2022 at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich.

Ditch Drunk Driver From Palmerston Arrested

(TOWNSHIP OF MAPLETON, ON) – On October 28, 2021, at approximately 10:45 p.m. Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of a single vehicle in a ditch on Wellington Road 7, west of Rothsay. Initial reports indicated that a driver had entered the ditch.

OPP and Guelph/Wellington Paramedic Services responded, and the driver was transported to a local hospital as a precaution. 

As a result of the investigation, Jonathan SCHOLL, 39-years-old of Palmerston has been charged with Impaired Operation – 80 Plus (mgs of alcohol in 100mL of blood). A 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (A.D.L.S.) and 7-day Vehicle Impoundment was initiated as per statute. The accused was scheduled to appear in the Ontario court of justice – Guelph.

Repeat Offender Arrested After Foot Chase

(NORTH PERTH, ON) – A suspect led police on a brief foot pursuit after a theft from a local business, but they were immediately arrested.

The Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were called to the business on Mitchell Road South, Listowel on January 13, 2022, just before 1:30 p.m., after a person was witnessed shoplifting. The suspect then fled the store, and tried to get into a moving vehicle. The suspect was observed by officers, who were able to make an arrest after a brief foot pursuit.

John Garrett WINER, 35, of Puslinch Township, has been charged with:

–       Theft Under $5000 – Shoplifting

–       Mischief – obstructs, interrupts, or interferes with the lawful use enjoyment or operation of property

–       Fail to Comply with Probation Order (two counts)

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Stratford at a later date to answer to the charges.

11 Year Old Abducted – 40 Year Old Arrested

(NORTH PERTH, ON) – A North Perth resident is facing a charge following a missing person investigation in the Municipality of North Perth.

On January 12, 2022, just after 11:00 a.m., the Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of missing 11-year-old youth from a residence at a Listowel address. During the investigation, the youth was located with a family member, who was arrested and charged. There were no injuries as a result of the abduction.

A 40-year-old resident of Listowel, has been charged with:

–       Abduction in contravention of a court order – receive or harbour

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Stratford at a later date to answer to the charge.

Stolen Vehicle Recovered – Two Arrested

(CHESLEY, ON) – On January 12, 2022 at 4:24 a.m., a South Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer on patrol in the town of Chesley signalled a pick-up truck to stop using the police cruiser emergency lighting. The vehicle continued driving through town before coming to a stop along 5th Avenue south west.

The officer determined that the pick-up truck had been reported stolen.

The occupants of the vehicle were taken into custody without incident.

Dearl VESSIE, 31-years-old, of West Grey Township was charged with:

  • Driving while prohibited
  • Flight from police
  • 2 counts of possessing stolen property
  • Obstruct peace officer
  • 2 counts of fail to comply with release order

The accused was held in custody pending the results of a bail hearing scheduled for January 12, 2022.

Jessica JONKER, 34-years-old, of Chatsworth Township was charged with:

·       2 counts of possessing proceeds of crime

·       Obstruct peace officer

The accused was held in custody pending the results of a bail hearing scheduled for January 12, 2022.

Two In Hospital Following Snowmobile Collision

(MORRIS-TURNBERRY, ON) – Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers continue to investigate a snowmobile crash that took place early this morning (15Jan) southwest of Wroxeter that has resulted in serious injuries. 

Early this morning, at approximately 12:30 a.m., Huron County OPP, Huron County Paramedic Services and the North Huron Fire Department responded to a snowmobile crash located at the intersection of Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs (OFSC) Trail B108 and C Line Road.

The driver, a 25-year-old from Morris-Turnberry and the passenger, a 25-year-old from Teeswater, both remain in hospital with serious injuries. 

Members from the West Region OPP Traffic Incident Management & Enforcement (TIME) Team responded to the scene to assist with the collision investigation.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation however alcohol and speed are believed to be factors in this collision.

Huron County OPP reminds all snowmobile operators that the snowmobile trails are currently closed in this area. Access is prohibited and anyone entering the property may be charged with trespassing.
