Another Fatal Collision

(TOWNSHIP OF PUSLINCH, ON) – On November 17, 2023, at approximately 11:30 a.m., Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a serious collision near the intersection of Wellington Road 32 and Concession 4, Puslinch. Initial reports indicated that a commercial motor vehicle had left the roadway and caught on fire.

OPP and emergency service responded however one person was pronounced deceased at scene. The Office of the Chief Coroner was notified.

The intersection will remain closed while reconstructionists with the West Region Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement (TIME) team seek to identify the cause of the collision.

The Wellington County OPP is asking anyone that may have witnessed this collision to please call 1-888-310-1122.

Fatal Collision

(PERTH COUNTY, ON) – One person has died as a result of a motor vehicle collision in Perth County earlier today.

On November 16, 2023 at approximately 4:30 p.m., the Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), along with Perth County Paramedic Services, and the St. Marys Fire Department, responded to a serious motor vehicle collision on Highway 7/Elginfield Road, between Perth Road 118 and Perth Line 9, in Perth County. Two passenger vehicles had collided.

One person was extricated from one involved vehicle and transported to hospital where they were pronounced deceased. A second person was transported to hospital with non-life threatening injuries. There were no other injuries reported.

The Perth County OPP, with the assistance West Region Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement (TIME) Team, continue to investigate the collision.

The areas surrounding Highway 7 between the two roundabouts at Perth Road 118 and Perth Line 9 remains closed for the protection of emergency responders and to facilitate the investigation, and will likely be closed for a number of hours.

Repeat Offender Arrested Again – FEDDES

(HURON EAST, ON) – Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged a Central Huron resident with several criminal offences following an investigation by police on November 14th, 2023. 

On Tuesday morning, November 14th just before noon, Huron-Perth OPP Community Street Crimes Unit (CSCU) officers along with Huron County OPP officers and West Region OPP K-9 were patrolling in the Municipality of Huron East, Seaforth when they observed a vehicle driver known to police to be prohibited from driving. Further checks revealed that the vehicle they were operating had been reported stolen. Officers blocked-in the involved vehicle and captured the suspect nearby after they had scaled a fence to evade capture. As a result of the investigation, the following individual has been charged with the following offences:

Pacey FEDDES, 22 years of age from Central Huron has been charged with:

–      Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000,

–      Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000,

–      Carry Concealed Weapon,

–      Possession of Methamphetamine,

–      Operation while Prohibited – (four counts),

–      Fail to Comply with Probation – (five counts).

The accused was held for a bail hearing and later remanded into custody with a court appearance scheduled at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich.

Wellington OPP Weekly Update

(COUNTY OF WELLINGTON, ON) – Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) would like to consolidate and streamline our notable traffic offences and publish a single weekly release.

On November 7, 2023, shortly after midnight, an officer observed a motor vehicle traveling approximately 104 km/hr in a posted 60 km/hr zone on Highway 6 in Kennilworth. As a result of the investigation, a 22 year old of London has been charged with Stunt Driving. The defendant is scheduled to appear before the provincial offences court in Guelph on February 7, 2024.

On November 5, 2023 at approximately 3:00 p.m. an officer observed a motor vehicle traveling approximately 118 km/hr in a posted 60 km/hr zone on Second Line, Nichol Township. As a result of the investigation a 21 year old of Newmarket has been charged with Stunt Driving. The defendant is scheduled to appear before the provincial offences court in Guelph on February 7, 2024.

On November 3, 2023 at approximately 3:30 p.m. officers responded to a report of a motor vehicle collision involving two vehicles at the intersection of Wellington Road 7 and Wellington Road 11, Mapleton Township. One driver was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries. As a result of the investigation, Brittany PENNIE, 24 years old of Harriston has been charged with Operation while Impaired. The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Guelph on November 24, 2023.

On November 2, 2023 at approximately 6:30 p.m. an officer observed a motor vehicle traveling approximately 137 km/hr in a posted 80 km/hr zone on Wellington Road 123 Minto Township. As a result of the investigation, a 17 year old of Arthur has been charged with Stunt Driving. The defendant is scheduled to appear before the provincial offences court in Guelph on February 7, 2024.

On November 2, 2023 at approximately 8:30 p.m. Wellington County OPP received a report of a motor vehicle being operated in an erratic manner on Highway 9, Minto Township. Officers located the vehicle and as a result of the investigation, Phi Hung HOANG, 40 years old of Mississauga has been charged with Operation while Impaired – Alcohol and Drugs, Possession of a Schedule 1 Substance -Methamphetamine, Possession of Cannabis for the Purpose of Distributing, and with Drive Motor Vehicle with Cannabis Readily Available. The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on November 21, 2023.

On October 29, 2023 at approximately 3:00 a.m., an officer observed a motor vehicle drive past a road closure sign on Eats Mill Street and initiated a traffic stop. As a result of the investigation, William O’BRIEN, 31 years old of Waterloo has been charged with Operation while Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 plus), with Drive Vehicle with Cannabis Readily Available and with Drive Vehicle – No Currently Validated Permit. The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on November 17, 2023.

On October 29, 2023 at approximately 2:40 p.m. an officer observed two motor vehicles traveling approximately 164 km/hr in a posted 80 km/hr zone on Concession 3, Mapleton. As a result of the investigation, a 20 year old of Wallenstein and a 20 year old Listowel have been charged with Stunt Driving. The defendants are scheduled to appear before the provincial offences court in Guelph on February 7, 2024

On October 28, 2023 at approximately 12:00 a.m. an officer received a notification from the Automated Licence Plate Reader (ALPR) for a possibly stolen vehicle on Sideroad 18, Centre Wellington. When the officer attempted to stop the vehicle, it struck the cruiser and left the area at a high rate of speed. Other officers began to patrol for the vehicle and observed it enter the ditch off of Highway 6. The driver attempted to flee on foot but was subsequently arrested by officers. As a result of the investigation, Erich KLUG, 27 years old of Guelph has been charged with Flight from Peace Officer, Dangerous Operation (two counts), Failure to Stop after Accident, Operation while Prohibited, Assault Peace Officer, Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000, and with Fail to Comply with Release Order. The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Guelph on December 19, 2023.

On October 28, 2023 at approximately 3:30 p.m. an officer stopped a motor vehicle traveling approximately 133 km/hr in a posted 50 km/hr zone on Highway 89, Wellington North Township. As a result of the investigation, a 37 year old of Listowel has been charged with Stunt Driving and with Drive Motor Vehicle No Currently Validated Permit. The defendant is scheduled to appear before the provincial offences court in Guelph on February 7, 2024

On October 28, 2023 at approximately 8:15 p.m. an officer observed a motor vehicle traveling approximately 134 km/hr in a posted 70 km/hr zone on Wellington Road 18, Centre Wellington. As a result of the investigation, an 18 year old of Belwood has been charged with Stunt Driving. The defendant is scheduled to appear before the provincial offences court in Guelph on February 7, 2024

On October 27, 2023 at approximately 10:30 p.m. an officer stopped a pickup truck for a Highway Traffic Act violation on Gowrie Street North, Centre Wellington. As a result of the investigation, Dylan CLAYTON-RICHMOND, 20 years old of Fergus has been charged with Impaired Operation, Impaired Operation – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus) and with Stunt Drive – Perform Stunt. The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Guelph on November 14, 2023.

*Anyone charged with Operation while Impaired – B.A.C. 80 Plus (mgs of alcohol in 100mL of blood) or Failing to Comply with Demand receives a 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (A.D.L.S.) and a 7-day Vehicle Impoundment as per statute.

*Anyone charged with Drive Motor Vehicle – Perform Stunt receives a 14-day impoundment and a 30-day driver’s licence suspension as per statute.

Human Trafficker Facing Numerous Charges

(PALMERSTON, ON) – On July 10, 2023 the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a disturbance at a residence in Palmerston. At that time officers entered into an intimate partner violence investigation as well as a human trafficking investigation.

On November 2, 2023 an individual was arrested, and as a result of the investigation, a 52 year old of Scarborough has been charged with the following Criminal Code Offences:

·        Trafficking in Person(s)

·        Receive Material Benefit for Trafficking Person

·        Receive Financial or Material Benefit from Commission of the Purchasing Offence

·        Procuring a Person to Provide Sexual Services

·        Procuring a Person to Provide Sexual Services by Exercising Control

Drunk Driver Facing Hit & Run Charge

(GODERICH, ON) – Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged a Goderich resident with Impaired driving offences following a collision investigation on October 29th, 2023. 

At approximately 10:40 p.m. Sunday, October 29th, Huron County OPP officers responded to a motor vehicle collision involving a vehicle that had collided with another vehicle on the Goderich Courthouse Square. The involved driver did not remain at the scene of the collision and was later located and stopped on Wellington Street. Police spoke the driver and made a demand for their breath sample using the roadside screening device which resulted in a failure. The investigating officer subsequently arrested the driver for Impaired Operation.

The accused then provided further breath samples before a qualified Intoxilyzer Breath Technician at the Huron OPP detachment in Clinton. Suitable breath samples were provided to police which resulted in readings over the legal limit.

William CRAIG, 74 years of age from Goderich has been charged with:

–      Operation while Impaired – Over 80,

–      Fail to Stop After Accident.

The accused was additionally charged with offences found in the Highway Traffic Act (HTA), Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act (CAIA), and Liquor Licence Control Act (LLCA).

The involved vehicle was towed and impounded for seven days, and the accused’ driver’s license was suspended for a period of 90 days.

The accused was released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for December 4th, 2023, at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich.

34 Year Old Arrested For Drunk Driving – Name Released

(HURON EAST, ON) – Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged a Huron East resident with Impaired Driving offences following a traffic stop on October 28th just after 10:45 p.m. on Hydro Line Road in the Municipality of Huron East. 

Huron County OPP officers were conducting a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (R.I.D.E.) check at Roxboro Line and Hydro Line in Huron East when an eastbound vehicle appeared to avoid the checkpoint. The driver was subsequently stopped by police a short distance away with a police vehicle. Police spoke with the driver which led to the investigating officer discovering that the driver had been drinking alcohol prior to driving. The driver was placed under arrest for impaired operation and taken into custody. 

The accused was then transported to the Perth County OPP Detachment in Sebringville for further breath tests. Two samples of breath were supplied to the Intoxilyzer Technician and both tests were found to be over the legal limit. 

Michael ECKERT, 34 years of age from Huron East has been charged with:

–      Operation While Impaired,

–      Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 Plus).

The involved vehicle was towed and impounded for seven days, and the accused’ driver’s license was suspended for a period of 90 days.

The accused has since been released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for December 4th, 2023, at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich.

Minto Murder – DRUMOND & WALSOM-GERIGS Arrested

(TOWN OF MINTO, ON) – The Wellington County Detachment Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged two individuals with the kidnapping and homicide of Jason BROWN.

On November 8, 2023, the OPP, with the assistance of the Edmonton Police Service, arrested Joshua Alexander DRUMOND, 32-years-old of Edmonton, on a Canada-wide warrant. DRUMOND has been charged with the following Criminal Code offences:

·        First Degree Murder 235(1)

·        Kidnapping 279(1)(a).

Steven Jon WALSOM-GERIGS, 33-years-old of Brantford, is charged with the following Criminal Code offences:

·        First Degree Murder 235(1)

·        Kidnapping 279(1)(a).

Both individuals are currently in custody and will appear at the Ontario Superior Court in Guelph on November 10, 2023. 

On March 12, 2019, the body of Jason John BROWN, 43-years-old of Kitchener was found in the Oshawa area of Durham Region.

The Wellington County OPP Crime Unit, under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch, and with the assistance of the Biker Enforcement Unit, continues to investigate BROWN’S death.

Spike Strip & K9 Used To Stop & Arrest Impaired Hit & Run Driver

(BLUEWATER, ON) – Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged a London resident with a total of 17 offences following an investigation on October 18th, 2023. 

On Wednesday, October 18th, just after 2:30 a.m. Lambton County OPP officers advised Huron County OPP officers that a vehicle had almost collided with an OPP cruiser in Grand Bend and had failed to stop for police. The SUV was last seen speeding northbound on Bluewater Highway towards Bayfield. Officers observed the suspect vehicle enter Bayfield and collide with a small vessel that was parked in a lot off the highway. A tire deflation device (TDD) was utilized successfully, and the suspect exited the SUV fleeing on foot. An OPP K-9 unit, along with OPP Emergency Response Team members (ERT) were dispatched to the scene and tracked the suspect, who was placed under arrest.

Mohamad ELMUTIGIN, 26 years of age from London has been charged with:

–      Operation while Impaired,

–      Refusal to Comply with Demand,

–      Flight From Police,

–      Dangerous Operation,

–      Fail to Stop after Accident,

–      Operation while Prohibited – (four counts),

–      Fail to Comply with Release Order.

The accused was additionally charged under the Highway Traffic Act (HTA) with the following offences:

–      Drive while Suspended – (5 counts),

–      Red Light – Fail to Stop,

–      G1 Driver Violation.

The accused was held for a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich, where they were remanded into custody.

Area Violence Continues To Soar – 3 Arrested For B&E and Assault #CallToArms #StandYourGround

(GODERICH, ON) – Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) investigated a serious assault occurrence that took place in Goderich on Tuesday October 17th.

On October 17th, 2023, at 8:25 p.m. Huron OPP officers received a report of an assault that had just taken place at a business location on Huron Road in the Town of Goderich. The victim received serious injury from the assault. The suspects were later located and arrested. As a result of the investigation, three individuals from Ashfield Colborne Wawanosh Township have been charged.

The name of the accused youth is being withheld to protect their identity as per the Youth Criminal Justice Act (YCJA).

The three accused individuals, 35-year-old Robert FREEMAN, 28-year-old Jenifer OESCH, and a 15-year-old youth have each been charged with the following offences:

–      Assault Causing Bodily Harm,

–      Criminal Harassment,

–      Break, Enter a Place.

The adult accused parties have court appearances scheduled at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich. 

The youth accused party also has a court appearance scheduled at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich Youth Court.

62 Year Old Arrested For Drinking & Driving Lawn Tractor

(HURON EAST, ON) – Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged a Huron East resident with Impaired driving offences following a complaint in Huron East, Seaforth on October 14th, 2023. 

Just after 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 14th, Huron County OPP officers responded to a complaint of a suspicious person on Goderich Street West in the Town of Seaforth. Police spoke to the complainant who advised police that an individual had been going through the complainants’ belongings on the property. The complainant, who had been drinking alcohol, was operating a lawn tractor and about to exit a driveway onto the roadway. Officers stopped the complainant before they drove onto the road and subsequently arrested them for Impaired Operation.

The accused was transported to the Huron OPP detachment to provide further breath samples before a qualified Intoxilyzer Breath Technician. Suitable breath samples were provided to police which resulted in readings over three times the legal limit.

Douglas BARRETT, 62 years of age from the Municipality of Huron East has been charged with:

–      Operation while Impaired – alcohol and drugs,

–      Operation while Impaired – Over 80,

–      Operation while Prohibited – (four counts).

The accused was released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for November 27th, 2023, at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich.

38 Year Old From Goderich Arrested For Drunk Driving – Name Released

(GODERICH, ON) – Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged a Goderich resident with Impaired Operation – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 Plus), following a failed roadside test on October 6th, 2023, at approximately 8:35 p.m. on Suncoast Drive in the Town of Goderich. 

Huron County OPP officers were observing traffic in Goderich when they observed two All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV) operators depart a business on Huron Road and proceed westbound. The ATV’s turned onto Suncoast Drive, at which time officers conducted a traffic stop. One of the ATV operators fled, and the second operator stopped their machine. In speaking with the driver, the investigating officer believed that the driver had consumed alcohol prior to driving, which led to a roadside screening device test on the driver. The roadside breath test resulted in a failure and the driver was placed under arrest and taken into custody. 

The accused was then transported to the Huron OPP Detachment for further breath tests. Two samples of breath were supplied to the Intoxilyzer Technician and both tests were found to be over the legal limit. 

Andrew RYAN, 38 years of age from Goderich has been charged with:

–      Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 Plus).

The involved ATV was towed and impounded for seven days, and the accused’ driver’s license was suspended for a period of 90 days.

The accused was released from custody with a court appearance scheduled at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich.

33 Year Old From ACW Arrested – Name Released

(HURON TWP, ON) – On November 4, 2023, at 1:20 p.m., the South Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of a single vehicle collision along Highway 21 in Huron Township.

Officers responded to find that one of the involved vehicles had left the area.

The vehicle was located, and the driver was found to have been drinking alcohol. They were placed under arrest and taken to a Qualified Intoxilizer Technician for breath tests.

Wade LOWRY, 33-years-old, from the Township of Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh was charged with:

  • Impaired Driving
  • Operate over 80 milligrams
  • Dangerous Driving
  • Fail to stop after accident

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Walkerton on January 17, 2024, to answer to the charges.

There were no injuries reported at the scene.

An impaired driving charge includes an immediate 90-day driver’s license suspension and an immediate 7-day vehicle impoundment.

Farm Accident – One Airlifted To Hospital

(WEST PERTH ON) – On Monday, November 6, 2023, just after 11:30 a.m., members of Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Perth County Emergency Medical Services and West Perth Fire Services responded to a report on an individual injured by an auger in the area of Line 49, West Perth, Perth County.

A 34-year-old was transported by Air Ambulance to a trauma center with serious injuries.

The Ministry of Labour was contacted and is investigating the incident.

Fatal Collision In Howick

(HOWICK TOWNSHIP, ON) – A two-vehicle intersection-related motor vehicle collision involving a passenger vehicle and a pickup truck has claimed the life of a Municipality of Brockton resident. 

On early Sunday morning at 12:01 a.m., November 5th, 2023, Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Huron County Paramedic Services and the Howick Fire Department responded to the intersection of Howick-Turnberry Road and Fordwich Line in Howick Township after receiving a 9-1-1 call about a collision.

Upon arrival, emergency services located both heavily damaged vehicles and discovered that there were a total of three occupants involved. Both drivers received injuries and were transported to local hospitals. A passenger was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Members from the West Region OPP Traffic Incident Management & Enforcement (TIME) Team attended the scene to assist with the collision investigation. 

The investigation is ongoing, and the cause of the collision is being investigated. 

The deceased is a 45-year-old resident of Brockton.
