Fatal Collision Update – Deceased Identified

(ELDERSLIE TWP, ON) – On January 30, 2020 at 4:18 p.m., the South Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of a single vehicle crash along Concession 2 in Elderslie Township. Officers attended with Bruce County Paramedics and members of the Chesley Fire Department to find that a pick-up truck had left the roadway and struck a hydro pole.

Investigation revealed the pick-up was eastbound on Concession 2 when it struck a bridge abutment and a hydro pole before coming to rest in the ditch.

The driver, Kevin WARREN, 41-years-old of Elderslie Township, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

OPP Technical Traffic Collision Investigators (TTCI) are assisting the South Bruce OPP with this investigation.

Concession 2 was closed between Side road 15 and Side road 20 in Elderslie Township for the safety of emergency responders. It has since reopened to traffic.

31 Year Old Arrested For Drunk Driving – HOTSON

(TOWNSHIP OF WELLINGTON NORTH, ON) – On January 28, 2020, at approximately 5:10 p.m. the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) investigated the driver of a sport utility vehicle (SUV) on King Street west in Wellington North Township for a Highway Traffic Act violation.

During the course of the investigation, officers formed the opinion that the driver had consumed alcohol. A Roadside Screening Device test was conducted which resulted in a fail. The driver was arrested and brought to a local OPP operations centre for further testing.

Mark Daniel HOTSON, 31-years-old of the Town of Minto has been charged with Impaired Operation – 80 Plus (mg of alcohol per 100 mL of blood) contrary to the Criminal Code. A 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (A.D.L.S.) and 7-day Vehicle Impoundment was initiated as per statute. The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario court of justice – Guelph on March 3, 2020.

Drunk Driver Caught At RIDE – SKRINJARIC

(TOWNSHIP OF GUELPH/ERAMOSA, ON) – On January 27, 2020, members of the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (R.I.D.E.) check on the Woolwich-Guelph Townline near Speedvale Avenue West in the Township of Guelph/Eramosa. At approximately 10:30 p.m. the driver of a blue sport utility vehicle entered the R.I.D.E. check.

Officers formed the opinion that the driver had been consuming alcohol. A Roadside Screening Test was conducted and the driver registered a fail. Investigators also discovered that the drive was suspended. They were arrested and brought to a local OPP operations centre for further testing.

As a result of the investigation, Vlado W. SKRINJARIC, 53-years-old of Kitchener, has been charged with Impaired Operation – 80 Plus (mgs of alcohol in 100mL of blood) contrary to the Criminal Code and Suspended Driving contrary to the Highway Traffic Act. A 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (A.D.L.S.) and 7-day Vehicle Impoundment was initiated as per statute. The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice – Guelph on March 6, 2020.

Arrest Made In Fergus Domestic Dispute

(TOWNSHIP OF CENTRE WELLINGTON, ON) – On January 30, 2020, at approximately 1:30 a.m. members of the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a 911 call for a domestic dispute in progress at a residence on St. Andrew Street in Fergus.

It was reported that a female party had been physically assaulted by her common-law partner and had locked herself in the bathroom prior to calling police.

As a result of the investigation, a 29-year-old Fergus resident has been charged with Spousal Assault contrary to the Criminal Code and will appear in the Ontario court of justice – Guelph on March 6, 2020 to answer to the charge.

Drunk Driver Hits Home – HEERALALL

(TOWNSHIP OF GUELPH/ERAMOSA, ON) – On September 21, 2019, at approximately 5:00 a.m. Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a motor vehicle collision on Wellington Road 26 in the township of Guelph/Eramosa. Initial reports indicated that a black Sport Utility Vehicle (S.U.V.) had left the roadway and struck a home. The lone occupant, a 32-year-old driver, was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Investigators had suspicions that the driver was impaired and sought analysis of their blood.

OPP has received the results of the toxicology report, and as a result, Paul Bhupendra HEERALALL, 32-years-old of Fergus, has been charged with Impaired Operation – Combined Blood Alcohol and Blood Drug Concentration and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario court of justice – Guelph on February 18, 2020.

Even Coyotes Have Had Enough & Chase Down Criminal #TakeBackOurStreets

(HOWICK, ON) – A Hanover resident was taken into custody by Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) earlier this week after he was found hiding 30 feet up in a pine tree.

Just before 2:00 a.m. on January 28, 2020 Huron OPP officers responded to a Gorrie Line residence after receiving a call about a suspicious pickup truck that was parked in the laneway.

Upon arrival officers received information from West Grey Police Service that a wanted male may have been operating the pickup. Huron OPP and Perth County OPP officers began searching for potential suspects and shortly thereafter a set of footprints were picked up by the officers. Upon closer examination police also observed a set of animal prints running beside the suspect’s footprints. Officers lost the tracks at one point and it appeared as though the suspect may have been picked up and fled in a motor vehicle. However, luck wasn’t on the criminal’s side this time as officers picked up the prints again and followed them through a field and along a fence line where they the ultimately came to a stop near a large tree. An observant officer then spotted the suspect hiding way up in the tree.

The suspect was directed out of the tree and he eagerly complied. The cold and shaken suspect advised the officers he was chased by a coyote and he had to climb the tree to avoid an attack.

The accused, a 28-year-old from Hanover was arrested and transferred into the custody of West Grey Police Service to face a variety of outstanding charges.

Repeat Offender Arrested In Listowel – HUTCHINSON

(NORTH PERTH, ON) – Shortly after 9:00 p.m. on January 29, 2020, Perth County OPP officers responded to an address on Road 128 in Perth East, after receiving a complaint about a stolen pickup truck.

Police located the stolen pickup truck abandoned in the Town of Listowel. Officers conducted a search with the assistance of the OPP Emergency Response Team and the OPP Canine Unit and arrested a suspect in a garage on Havelock Street.

A second stolen vehicle from Middlesex County was recovered not far from the residence.

As a result of the investigation, Christopher HUTCHINSON, 37-years-old, from Stratford was charged with multiple property, driving, and bail violation offences.

The accused is scheduled to appear for a bail hearing on January 30, 2020, in the Ontario Court of Justice in Stratford.

Driver Charged Following Collision With Cruiser

(SOUTH HURON, ON) – A Bluewater resident has been charged with Careless Driving following an early morning crash that took place earlier this week.

At approximately 7:21 a.m. on Monday, January 27, 2020 a Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer was travelling southbound on Main Street in Exeter when a northbound sport utility vehicle crossed the center line and collided head on with the police vehicle.

The drivers were not injured however both vehicles sustained extensive damages.

Following an investigation by Huron County OPP and members of the West Region OPP Traffic Incident Management & Enforcement (TIME) Team a 31-year-old driver from Bluewater has been charged with Careless Driving.

Mailboxes Damaged

(NORTH PERTH, ON) – On January 27th, 2020, the North Perth OPP received a complaint of a mailbox being damaged on Line 90, east of Road 164. The incident occurred on January 25th between 10:30 pm and 12:30 pm.

Further investigation revealed that a second mailbox had been damaged in the area. Police canvassed homeowners and it was discovered that this was the fourth similar incident in the previous few months.

Police want to encourage homeowners to report any suspicious vehicles or activity to the police or to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS). Witnesses can also submit a secure web-tip at http://hc-cs.ca where you may be eligible to receive a cash reward up to $2,000.

Child Sexually Assaulted – 44 Year Old Arrested

(TOWNSHIP OF PUSLINCH, ON) – On January 24, 2020, Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report from a neighbouring police force of a sexual assault that occurred in Wellington County. It was reported that a female youth from Cambridge was a victim of a sexual assault at a residence on Townline Road in the Township of Puslinch.

As a result of the investigation, a 44-year-old Puslinch resident was charged with Sexual Assault on a Person under 16, Sexual Interference and Invitation to Sexual Touching on a Person under 16 contrary to the Criminal Code. He is scheduled to appear in the Ontario court of justice – Guelph on March 3, 2020.

This case is considered isolated as the perpetrator was known to the victim. Police will not be identifying the accused as it may risk identifying the victim.

Driver Has Vehicle Towed For Speeding On Hwy 21

(KINCARDINE, ON) – On January 26, 2020, a South Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer, on patrol along Highway 21 in the Municipality of Kincardine, noticed a pick-up truck moving at a high rate of speed. The vehicle’s speed was displayed on radar at more than 130 km/h in a posted 80 km/h zone.

The driver, a 46-year-old resident of Port Elgin, was charged with Race a Motor Vehicle and Fail to Surrender Driver’s License. They are scheduled to appear in court on March 10, 2020 to answer to the charges.

This charge also includes a 7-day vehicle impoundment.

20 Year Old Facing Impaired By Drug Charge

(CITY OF GUELPH, ON) – On January 25, 2020, at approximately 10:30 p.m. an Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer responded to a medical assist call on the Hanlon Expressway in the City of Guelph. It was reported that two parties were asleep in a sedan on the shoulder of the highway with the engine running.

Officer attended and located the sedan on the side of the highway with one tire separated from the rim. Officers awoke the driver and while speaking with them, formed the opinion that they were impaired by a drug. The driver was transported to a local hospital as a precaution. A Drug Recognition Expert (D.R.E.) officer conducted further testing and concluded that the driver’s ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by drug.

As a result, Nicolas Claude DUPUIS, 20-years-old of Oakville, has been charged with Impaired Operation and Dangerous Operation contrary to the Criminal Code. A 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (A.D.L.S.) and 7-day Vehicle Impoundment was initiated as per statute. The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario court of justice – Guelph on February 25, 2020.

Two Stunt Drivers Stopped At Same Time

(THAMESFORD, ON) – A Middlesex County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer was on Dundas Street in Thamesford around 3:00 a.m. on January 28, 2020. They observed two vehicles at a very high rate of speed going westbound towards London, Ontario.

The officer stopped both vehicles with going in excess of 150 km/h in an 80 km/h zone. Both drivers had their vehicles impounded and driver licences suspended.

The OPP is urging all drivers to take increased speeds seriously, no matter the time of day.

There have been ten occurrences this year alone on Middlesex County roadways with drivers being charged with stunt driving due to driving over 50 km/h of the posted speed limit. (Three of them occurred on the 401 series highways within Middlesex)

In 2019 there was approximately 160 drivers charged with stunt driving for exceeding the speed limit by 50 km/h in Middlesex County.

The OPP will continue to enforce road safety, but need the motoring public to do their part as well. Enforcement and education is only one part of road safety.

Male Arrested In Bluevale Without Incident

(MORRIS-TURNBERRY, ON) – This afternoon around 12:35 p.m. (28Jan) members of the Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Detachment responded to a residence located on Orange Street in the village of Bluevale to check on the well-being of a resident.

Due to concerns about possible firearms inside the home members from the West Region Emergency Response Team (ERT), OPP Canine Unit and OPP Crisis Negotiation Team also attended to assist.

Shortly after 5:00 p.m. police took a male subject into custody without incident.

Members from the Huron County OPP Crime Unit are currently investigating.

17 Year Old Drunk Driver Arrested In Listowel

(NORTH PERTH, ON) – On January 25, 2020 at 3:38 am, OPP officers in North Perth responded to a vehicle that was stopped in the intersection at Main Street and Wallace Avenue in Listowel.

During the course of the investigation, officers formed the opinion that the driver had consumed alcohol. A roadside test using an approved screening device resulted in a fail. The driver was arrested and transported to the Teviotdale OPP Detachment for further testing.

A 17-year-old driver from Fergus was charged with:

Operation while impaired – blood alcohol consumption (80 plus)

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Youth Court of Justice, Stratford on February 20th, 2020.

The Ontario Provincial Police encourage anyone who suspect someone is operating a motor vehicle while impaired by either alcohol or drug, to dial 911 and report it.
