Running Stop Sign Leads To Impaired Charge

(ASHFIELD-COLBORNE-WAWANOSH TWP, ON) – Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged a Toronto resident with Impaired Driving offences following a traffic stop on Sunday May 14th. 

Huron County OPP were contacted by a concerned citizen that reported drivers were departing a function after consuming alcohol on May 14th, 2023, at approximately 12:30 a.m. in Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh Township. Police attended the area of the report and observed for driver violations.

At approximately 1:13 a.m., an officer observed a motor vehicle fail to stop for a stop sign on Dungannon Road at Southampton Street and continue travelling southbound. A traffic stop was initiated on Lucknow Line.

Police spoke to the driver and determined that they had been consuming alcohol prior to driving. The driver was subsequently placed under arrest for Impaired Operation and taken into custody. The driver was transported to the Huron OPP detachment in Clinton for further breath tests with an OPP qualified breath technician.

Thomas LASSASOMBATH-ERB, 30 years of age from Toronto has been charged with:

–      Operation while Impaired – alcohol and drugs,

–      Operation while Impaired – Over 80.

The involved vehicle was towed and impounded for seven days, and the accused’ driver’s license was suspended for a period of 90 days.

The accused has since been released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for June 26th, 2023, at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich.

Clinton Business Damaged By Vehicle – 60 Year Old Arrested For Impaired Driving

(CENTRAL HURON, ON) – Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged a Central Huron resident with several offences following a collision on May 13th at approximately 3:00 p.m. 

Huron County OPP and the Central Huron Fire Department were called to the scene of a collision on May 13th, 2023. Upon arrival, emergency services discovered that an SUV had collided with the front of a commercial building on Mill Street in Clinton, causing considerable damage to the front entrance area. Witnesses advised police that the involved driver had left the scene in the damaged vehicle.

Soon after the incident, police located the suspect vehicle and involved driver and determined that they had been under the influence of alcohol while driving. The driver was subsequently placed under arrest for Impaired Operation and taken into custody.

John WILSON, 60 years of age from Central Huron has been charged with:

–      Dangerous Operation,

–      Operation while Impaired – alcohol and drugs,

–      Operation while Impaired – Over 80.

The accused was additionally charged with three offences found in the Highway Traffic Act including: Failing to Remain, Failing to Report, and Driving a Motor Vehicle – no licence.  

The accused’ driver’s license was seized for a period of 90 days, and the involved vehicle was impounded for seven days.

The accused has since been released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for June 26th, 2023, at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich.

Tools Stolen From Locked Trailer In Goderich

(GODERICH, ON) – Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is investigating the theft of tools from a locked trailer in Goderich.

On May 8th, 2023, Huron OPP officers received a report that numerous construction tools were stolen from a locked enclosed trailer sometime between May 5th and May 8th. The trailer had been parked at a construction site near Cove Road in the Town of Goderich. The suspect(s) damaged the lock to access the trailer, then stole various DeWalt brand power tools and a Topcon Laser device.

The Huron OPP is seeking the public’s help in identifying the culprit(s) involved in this incident. Any witnesses to the theft are encouraged to contact police.

Fatal Collision – One Airlifted To Hospital

(BRANT TWP, ON) – On May 13, 2023, at 7:41 p.m., the South Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of a two-vehicle collision along Bruce County Road 3 in Brant Township.

Officers responded to the scene with members of the Walkerton Fire Department and Bruce County Emergency Medical Services (EMS) to find two vehicles involved.

There were eight people involved in the collision. One was pronounced deceased at the scene. Their identity is being with held pending next of kin notification. 

Another person involved in the collision has been airlifted to a London hospital for treatment of life-threatening injuries.

The other six people are being assessed at local hospitals.

The South Bruce OPP is continuing to investigate the collision along with members of the OPP Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement (TIME) team and the Coroner’s Office.

Bruce County Road 3 is closed between the Chepstow Road and Cargill Road for the protection of emergency responders. Motorists are asked to respect the closure and avoid the incident location.

The investigation is in its early stages. Updates will be provided as they become available.

Brockton Drug Bust – 12 Gauge Shotgun Seized

(BROCKTON, ON) – On May 10, 2023, members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Community Street Crimes Unit (CSCU), West Region OPP Regional Support Team (RST), West Region OPP Tactics and Rescue Unit (TRU), Central Region OPP Tactics and Rescue Unit (TRU), West Region OPP Emergency Response Team (ERT) and OPP Canine executed search warrants along Alma Street, and along Sideroad 15 in the Municipality of Brockton. 

As a result of the execution of the warrants, police seized Oxycodone, Methamphetamine, Cocaine and Psilocybin. The estimated value of the seized controlled substances is $18,136.

Police also seized a quantity of offence related property. The list of recovered items includes a cross bow, a 12-gauge shotgun, brass knuckles, scales and cell phones. The value of the seized property is estimated to be $7,065.

Joshua HAMILTON, 26-years-old, from the Municipality of Brockton has been charged with:

  • Possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking
  • Possession of a controlled substance – two counts
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • Possession of a prohibited device
  • Careless storage of a firearm, weapon, prohibited device, ammunition – two counts
  • Failure to comply with undertaking – three counts

The accused was held in custody pending the results of a bail hearing scheduled for May 10, 2023.

Michael VAUGHN, 54-years-old, from the Municipality of Brockton has been charged with:

  • Possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking
  • Possession of a controlled substance
  • Failure to comply with release order – three counts
  • Possession of a firearm or ammunition while prohibited – two counts

The accused was held in custody pending the results of a bail hearing scheduled for May 10, 2023.

Jeremy WELSH Arrested Again

(NORTH PERTH, ON) – On May 6, 2023, a male was located at a residence in the Municipality of North Perth and was arrested for previous property offences including being in possession of a stolen ATV.

On April 8, 2023, the Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of a break and enter at a barn at a residence located on Perth Line 86 in North Perth.

Sometime overnight on April 7, 2023, and April 8, 2023, suspect(s) forced the door and removed an ATV. 

As a result, Jeremy WELSH, a 25-year-old of North Perth, has been arrested and charged with:

–      Possession Property Obtained By Crime Over $5,000

–      Failure to comply with release order – other than to attend court

–      Fail to Comply with Probation Order

The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing.

51 Year Old Arrested For Drunk Driving – Name Released

(NORTH MIDDLESEX, ON) – On May 9, 2023, at 9:46 p.m., members of the Middlesex County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), the Middlesex-London Paramedic Service and North Middlesex fire, were dispatched to a single motor vehicle collision on Elm Tree Drive in North Middlesex.

Investigation revealed the vehicle left the roadway and collided with a hydro pole.

An Approved Screening Device (ASD) was utilized. The driver was arrested and transported to the Middlesex OPP detachment where further tests were administered.

As a result, Jason SUTHERLAND, a 51-year-old of North Middlesex, has been charged under the Criminal Code with:

·      Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

The accused has been released from police custody and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice to speak to the charges on July 20, 2023.

The Middlesex OPP wants to remind the public that if you see anything suspicious or suspect an impaired driver you should contact the Ontario Provincial Police or your nearest police authority immediately.

Louis POIRIER Arrested – Impaired Driving

(NORTH PERTH, ON) – The Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged an individual following a traffic stop.

On May 4, 2023, at approximately 8:47 p.m., a member of the Perth County OPP stopped a vehicle on Union Street East in the Municipality of North Perth without taillights.

Upon speaking with the driver, the officer had reason to believe the driver was impaired by a drug. The driver was taken into custody without incident and transported to a local detachment where a Drug Recognition Evaluation (DRE) was administered.

As a result of the investigation, Louis POIRIER, 50-year-old of Listowel, has been charged with:

–      Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs

–      No brake lights

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Stratford on June 26, 2023, to answer to the charges.

50 Year Old From Listowel Arrested For Assault

(NORTH PERTH, ON) – On May 5, 2023, the Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) started an investigation of an assault that took place at a Line 87 address in the Municipality of North Perth.

During the investigation, it was determined that two people entered into an argument.  One person assaulted the other. The victim sustained minor injuries.

As a result, Louis POIRIER, a 50-year-old resident of Listowel, has been arrested and charged with:

–      Assault

The accused were released from custody and are scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Stratford on June 23, 2023, to answer to the charge.

22 Year Old Facing Drunk Driving Charge

(KINCARDINE, ON) – On May 5, 2023, at 11:19 p.m., a South Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer stopped a vehicle along Highway 21 in the Municipality of Kincardine. 

The driver was found to have been drinking alcohol. They were placed under arrest and taken to a Qualified Intoxilizer Technician for breath tests.

Darren STECKLE, 22-years-old, from the Municipality of Bluewater was charged with Operate over 80 milligrams.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Walkerton on June 14, 2023, to answer to the charges.

An impaired driving charge includes an immediate 90-day driver’s license suspension and an immediate 7-day vehicle impoundment.

Repeat Offender Arrested Again, Meth A Factor – LAW

(WELLINGTON NORTH TOWNSHIP, ON) – On May 5, 2023, at approximately 10:00 p.m., officers with the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police were conducting a RIDE program on Wellington Road 21, Pilkington Township when a passenger vehicle entered the RIDE program. Investigation determined that the driver was wanted; however, the driver was uncooperative and attempted to resist arrest.

As a result of the investigation, Jason Francis LAW, 31-years-old of Puslinch has been charged with Assault with Intent to Resist Arrest, Failure to Comply with Release Order, Possession of Methamphetamine, and with Operation while Prohibited. The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Guelph on June 30, 2023.

Wellington OPP Weekly Report

(COUNTY OF WELLINGTON, ON) – Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) would like to consolidate and streamline our notable traffic offences and publish a single weekly release.

On April 27, 2023, at approximately 1:00 a.m., the Wellington County OPP responded to a report of a traffic complaint on Wellington Road 14, Wellington North Township.  As a result of the investigation, Lucas DERUITER, 21-years-old of Zorra Township has been charged with Operation while Impaired, Operation while Impaired – BAC (80 plus), and with Take Motor Vehicle without Consent. The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Guelph on May 16, 2023.   

On April 28, 2023, at approximately 6:00 p.m., the Wellington County OPP responded to multiple reports of a passenger vehicle that was being operated in an erratic manner on Eighth Line, Mapleton. As a result of the investigation, Paul Jeffrey VIDIC, 38-years-old of Harriston has been charged with Operation while Impaired – BAC (80 plus). The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Guelph on May 19, 2023. 

On April 28, 2023, at approximately 10:30 p.m., an officer was on patrol and observed a passenger vehicle being operated in an erratic manner on Elora Street South, Minto. The officer conducted a traffic stop and as a result of the investigation, Robert NOONAN, 30-years-old of Clifford has been charged with Operation while Impaired – BAC (80 plus) and with Speeding. The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Guelph on May 19, 2023. 

On April 29, 2023, at approximately 10:40 a.m., an officer was patrolling George Street, Arthur and received an alert on the Automated License Plate Recognition system for a suspended driver. As a result of the investigation, Jeffrey BROCKELBANK, 34-years-old of Flesherton has been charged with Operation while Prohibited and with Driving while Under Suspension. The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Guelph on June 20, 2023. 

On April 29, 2023, at approximately 8:00 p.m., the Wellington County OPP responded to a report of a passenger vehicle being operated in an erratic manner on Tower Street South, Fergus. Officers located the vehicle and as a result of the investigation, Kevin CHAPMAN 58-years-old of Kitchener has been charged with Operation while Impaired – BAC (80 plus) and with Speeding. The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Guelph on May 16, 2023. 

On April 30, 2023, at approximately 10:00 a.m., the Wellington County OPP responded to a report of a dog that was not on a leash that had bitten multiple parties. As a result of the investigation, a 75-year-old of Fergus has been charged with two counts of Fail to Prevent Dog from Biting and with Fail to Restrain Dog by Leash. The defendant is scheduled to appear before the provincial offences court on July 19, 2023 

On May 1, 2023, at approximately 7:00 p.m., an officer on patrol on Sixteenth Line, Mapleton Township received an alert on the Automated License Plate Recognition (ALPR) system for a possibly suspended driver. As a result of the investigation, Raymond NEAR, 47-years-old of Arthur, has been charged with Operation while Prohibited, Operation while Impaired, Operation while Impaired – BAC (80 plus) and with Care and Control of Vehicle with Open Container of Liquor.  The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Guelph on June 30, 2023. 

Anyone charged with Operation while Impaired- 80 Plus (mgs of alcohol in 100mL of blood) or Failing to Comply with Demand receives a 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (A.D.L.S.) and a 7-day Vehicle Impoundment as per statute.

Anyone charged with Drive Motor Vehicle – Perform Stunt receives a 14-day impoundment and a 30-day driver’s licence suspension as per statute.

4 Arrested After Painting Shed

(WEST PERTH, ON) – Four youths have been arrested and charged with Mischief in the Municipality of West Perth.  

On May 8, 2023, at approximately 4:12 p.m., Perth County OPP responded to a report of a Mischief at a Wellington Road address in Mitchell. It was determined that multiple youths spray painted a shed.

As a result of the investigation, three 14-year-olds and one 15-year-old, all from West Perth, have been arrested and charged with the following offence:

–       Mischief Under $5,000

All are scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice, located in Stratford at a later date to answer to the charge.

The identify of all accused is protected under the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act (YCJA).

Catherine CORR Arrested Again

(NORTH PERTH, ON) – One person was charged after stealing a wallet and air pods from a vehicle.  

On April 29, 2023, at approximately 12:15 a.m., Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a reported theft from a vehicle located on Wallace Avenue North in the Municipality of North Perth.

The accused was identified through surveillance. The air pods were tracked to the accused’s residence.

As a result, Catherine CORR, 34-year-old from North Huron was arrested and charged with:

–      Use of Credit Card

–      Failure to comply with undertaking

–      Theft Under $5000

–      Theft Under $5000 from a Motor Vehicle

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Stratford on May 29, 2023 to answer to the charges.

Repeat Offenders Arrested Again, Meth A Factor – DINGMAN & LEONARD

(NORTH PERTH, ON) – On May 3, 2023, the Perth County Provincial Police (OPP), Perth County Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU) and West Region Emergency Response Team (ERT) executed a search warrant at a Derry Street East residence in Listowel in the Municipality of North Perth.  

During the search warrant, police seized a quantity of suspected Fentanyl, Methamphetamine and Hydromorphone with an approximate value of $7690, Canadian currency of an approximate value of $215, weapons and property seized of an approximate value of $2750.

Nathan DINGMAN, 33-year-old of North Perth was charged with:

–      Poss of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking- Opioid (other than heroin)

–      Fail to comply with Probation Order

–      Poss of a Schedule I substance – Methamphetamine

–      Poss of a Schedule I substance – Opioid (other than heroin)

–      Poss of a Firearm or Ammunition contrary to Prohibition Order (three counts)

–      Carrying concealed weapon

–      Failure to comply with release order – other than to attend court (two counts)

–      Possession of a prohibited device or ammunition

Holly LEONARD, 31-year-old of North Perth was charged with:

–      Poss of a Schedule I substance – Methamphetamine

–      Obstruct Peace Officer

–      Poss of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking- Opioid (other than heroin)

–      Failure to comply with release order- other than to attend court (two counts)

–      Poss of a Schedule I Substance – Opioid (other than heroin)

 Both accused were held in custody pending a bail hearing.
