65 Year Old Arrested For Drunk Driving

(SOUTH HURON, ON) – Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged a South Huron resident with Impaired Operation – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 Plus) following a failed roadside test on Friday, July 28th at approximately 2:30 p.m. on Dashwood Road, Municipality of South Huron. 

A Huron County OPP officer was patrolling east on Dashwood Road when they observed a motor vehicle travelling westbound at a high rate of speed. The officer locked in the speed reading and proceeded to complete a traffic stop on Dashwood Road. Police pulled the vehicle over and spoke with the driver which led the investigating officer to conduct a roadside screening device test on the driver. The roadside breath test resulted in a failure and the driver was placed under arrest and taken into custody. 

The accused was then transported to the Huron OPP Detachment in Clinton for further breath tests. Two samples of breath were supplied to the Intoxilyzer Technician and both tests were found to be over the legal limit. 

Somphone OUNSAMONE, 65 years of age from South Huron has been charged with:

–      Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 Plus).

The accused was additionally charged with offences found in the Liquor Licence Control Act (LLCA), and the Highway Traffic Act (HTA).

The involved vehicle was towed and impounded for seven days, and the accused’ driver’s license was suspended for a period of 90 days.

The accused was later released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for September 11th at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich.

81 Speeders Charged

(HURON COUNTY, ON) – Members of the Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), and the Huron OPP Marine unit took part in the Civic Holiday Long Weekend Traffic Campaign from August 4, 2023, to August 7, 2023. Focus was placed on traffic moving over for emergency vehicles and tow trucks, as well as the “Big Four” which include: distracted driving, alcohol/drug impaired driving, speeding/aggressive driving, and lack of occupant restraint use.

Huron OPP officers laid 108 charges during the initiative including:

– 81 speeding charges,

– 3 stunt driving charges,

– 1 charge under the Cannabis Control Act

Officers also issued 54 warnings during the campaign period.

Did You Know?

Ontario’s Move Over law became law in 2003. The law requires drivers approaching a stopped emergency vehicle with its emergency lights activated or a tow truck with its amber lights flashing, to slow down, move over, if safe to do so, and proceed with caution. If the highway has more than one lane, the law requires the driver to move over and leave space between their vehicle and the parked emergency vehicle or tow truck if it can be done safely.

The law carries a $490 to $2,000 fine plus three demerit points upon conviction.

Suspended Drunk Driver Caught Going 145 in an 80

(GODERICH, ON) – Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged a London, Ontario resident with several criminal offences following a traffic investigation on July 28th, 2023. 

On July 28th at 10:50 a.m. Huron County OPP officers were patrolling on Bluewater Highway, just South of Goderich when they observed a pickup truck travelling northbound at a high rate of speed. A radar unit was utilized, and the vehicle was locked at 145 km/hr in the posted 80 km/hr zone. As police turned around to conduct a traffic stop, the suspect vehicle was observed pulling into a business parking lot on Huckins Street. The driver exited the truck and entered the store. Police located the suspect driver inside the store and escorted him outside where they were arrested. The driver resisted arrest and was eventually secured in the police vehicle. In speaking to the driver, the investigating officer determined that the driver had consumed alcohol prior to driving. The driver provided a roadside breath sample, which resulted in a failure.

The accused was transported to the Huron OPP detachment in Clinton to provide breath tests before a qualified Intoxilyzer Technician. During transport, the accused damaged police equipment. Once at the detachment, the accused threatened officers. Suitable breath samples were eventually provided to police which resulted in readings over the legal limit.

Dakotah LEWIS, 25 years of age from London has been charged with:

–      Operation while Impaired – Over 80,

–      Uttering Threats – Cause Death or Bodily Harm,

–      Resist Peace Officer,

–      Mischief.

The accused was additionally charged under the Highway Traffic Act for:

–      Stunt Driving,

–      Driving while Under Suspension.

The involved vehicle was towed and impounded for 14 days, and the accused’ driver’s license was suspended for a period of 90 days.

The accused was held for a bail hearing, and later released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for September 11th, 2023, at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich.

Go Cart Driver Facing Numerous Charges

(WEST PERTH, ON) – The Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged a West Perth resident with multiple criminal and traffic offences.    

On June 29, 2023, at approximately 7:20 p.m., Perth County OPP officers responded to a traffic complaint involving a go cart on Wellington Street in West Perth.

At the time of the incident, Allen TREMBLAY, a 40-year-old of Mitchell was arrested and charged with Operation While Prohibited, driving while under suspension and Drive motor vehicle – perform stunt. Through the course of the investigation the accused was further charged with the following:

–      Dangerous Operation

–      Driver motor vehicle, no vehicle identification number

–      Operate motor vehicle without insurance

–      Drive motor vehicle, no plates

–      Driver – no helmet or improper helmet

–      Drive with seatbelt assembly removed

–      Disobey stop sign – fail to stop

The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Stratford at a later date to answer to the charges.

Officer Allegedly Assaulted

(NORTH PERTH, ON) – Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged an individual with Assault Peace Officer in the Municipality of North Perth.

On August 5, 2023, at approximately 7:55 p.m., the Perth County OPP responded to a report of a disturbance at an Elizabeth Street East address. During the investigation, an officer sustained minor injuries.

As a result, Shirley ADAMS, a 43-year-old resident of North Perth has been charged with:

–      Assault a Peace Officer

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Stratford on October 5, 2023, to answer to the charge.

Repeat Offender Arrested In Brussels

(HURON EAST, ON) – Residents observed an increased police presence in the Village of Brussels on Saturday, August 5th while members of the Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), West Region Tactics and Rescue Unit (TRU), and West Region Emergency Response Team (ERT) dealt with an incident.

A portion of Turnberry Street was temporarily closed in order to maintain public and officer safety. At 2:46 p.m. one person was taken into custody as a result of the investigation.

Scott CLARKSON, 44 years of age from Huron East has been charged with the following offences:

–      Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose,

–      Uttering Threats – Damage or Injure Animal,

–      Imitation Firearm – Use while Committing Offence,

–      Possession of Firearm or Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order.

The accused was brought before the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich and was remanded into custody.

Repeat Offender Arrested Again

(NORTH PERTH, ON) – A male has been arrested and charged after a disturbance at a residence in the Municipality of North Perth.   

On August 1, 2023, at approximately 10:32 p.m., Perth County OPP responded to a report of a disturbance at a Road 164 address in North Perth. It was determined that multiple items were damaged.  

As a result of the investigation, Jacob WIEBE, a 25-year-old resident of North Perth was arrested and charged with:

–      Mischief under $5000

–      Failure to comply with release order – other than to attend court

The accused was held pending a bail hearing.

60 Year Old Charged With Dangerous Operation

(NORTH PERTH, ON) – On July 30, 2023, at approximately 9:48 p.m., Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to an address on Elm Avenue North in the Municipality of North Perth for a disturbance.

As a result of the investigation, Raymond ALBRECHT, a 60-year-old resident of North Perth has been charged with:

–      Dangerous operation

The accused has been released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Stratford on September 11, 2023.

JOSHI Arrested For Drunk Driving

(HURON TWP, ON) – On August 2, 2023, at 5:18 p.m., a South Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) stopped a vehicle along Concession 12 in Huron Township. 

The driver was found to have been drinking alcohol. They were placed under arrest and taken to a Qualified Intoxilizer Technician for breath tests.

Rootu JOSHI, 31-years-old, from the Municipality of Kincardine was charged with Impaired Driving, Operate over 80 milligrams and Drive With Open Liquor.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Walkerton on September 27, 2023, to answer to the charges.

An impaired driving charge includes an immediate 90-day driver’s license suspension and an immediate 7-day vehicle impoundment.

Exeter Armed Robbery – Matthew Armstrong Arrested

(SOUTH HURON, ON) – Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Major Crime Unit, Huron County OPP detachment members, and the Huron-Perth Community Street Crimes Unit (CSCU) investigated an armed robbery that took place on July 30th, 2023, at a business on Main Street North in South Huron (Exeter). 

On Sunday, July 30th, 2023, at 10:07 p.m., Huron County OPP was contacted by a store owner who called to report an armed robbery that had taken place. One male suspect entered the store and demanded cash. During the robbery, the male suspect brandished a handgun. The suspect left the store with an undisclosed amount of money.

Prior to this robbery, at approximately 9:00 p.m., police believe the same suspect was observed in South Huron (Huron Park) attempting to enter a variety store with a handgun but was unsuccessful as the business had just closed for the evening. While OPP officers were responding to Huron Park, the robbery in Exeter occurred.

During the investigation, the suspect was positively identified. On August 2nd, a search warrant was executed at a Bluewater address. The suspect was located, arrested, and transported to the Huron OPP detachment in Clinton for processing.

Matthew Armstrong, 41 years of age from Bluewater has been charged with the following offences:

–      Robbery Using Firearm – two counts,

–      Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose – two counts,

–      Disguise with Intent – two counts,

–      Pointing a Firearm – one count,

–      Theft Under $5000 – one count,

–      Failure to Comply with Undertaking – one count.

The accused remains in custody awaiting a bail hearing scheduled for August 3rd, 2023, at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich.

Sexual Assaults Downtown Clinton – DAWSON Arrested

(CENTRAL HURON, ON) – At 6:28 p.m. on Tuesday August 1st, 2023, Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received information from several complainants that an adult male was in the downtown core of Central Huron (Clinton) and had committed several assaults. Huron OPP officers responded immediately and located the suspect, who was arrested and taken into custody.

The police investigation revealed that between approximately 6:00 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. on August 1st, 2023, the suspect had assaulted at least four separate female victims in the Clinton business district. The suspect also committed mischief, caused a disturbance, and stole an item from a business.

Ivan DAWSON, 31 years of age from Central Huron has been charged with:

  • Sexual Assault – four counts,
  • Assault – one count,
  • Cause Disturbance – one count,
  • Mischief – one count,
  • Theft Under $5,000 – one count,
  • Failure to Comply with Probation – eight counts.

The accused is currently in custody with a bail court appearance scheduled for August 2nd, 2023, at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich.

Clinton Stabbing Update – Arrest Made

(CENTRAL HURON, ON) – Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Major Crimes Unit is investigating a triple stabbing that occurred just after midnight on Sunday, July 30th.

On July 30th, 2023, at 12:45 a.m. Huron OPP officers received a report that several youths had been attacked by someone with a knife at a residence in Central Huron (Clinton). Police discovered that three victims under the age of 18 had been injured and taken to the Goderich hospital. One of the victims was subsequently transported to London’s Victoria Hospital where they remain. Injuries have been deemed non-life threatening. The suspect fled the scene prior to police arrival.  

As a result of the investigation, a 15-year-old male youth from Stratford has been arrested and charged with the following offences:

–      Aggravated Assault – one count,

–      Assault with a Weapon – two counts,

–      Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose – three counts,

–      Failure to Comply with Undertaking – one count.

The accused is currently in custody awaiting a bail hearing.

The Huron OPP continues to investigate this incident and is seeking any information that may assist investigators. Any witnesses to the incident are encouraged to contact police. Any video surveillance capturing pedestrian traffic between the hours of 12:30 a.m. on July 30th and 5:00 a.m. on July 30th may be helpful to police.

Steven LAKE – Drunk Driving

(BRANT TWP, ON) – On July 30, 2023, at 6:14 p.m., the South Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of a single vehicle crash along Bruce County Road 19 in Brant Township. 

Officers responded to find the vehicle had left the roadway and had come to rest in a field. 

The driver was found to have been drinking alcohol. They were placed under arrest and taken to a Qualified Intoxilizer Technician for breath tests.

Steven LAKE, 54-years-old, from the Municipality of Brockton was charged with Impaired Driving and Operate over 80 milligrams.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Walkerton on September 6, 2023, to answer to the charges.

An impaired driving charge includes an immediate 90-day driver’s license suspension and an immediate 7-day vehicle impoundment.

Weekend Marine Incidents

(GREY BRUCE, ON) – The Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), responded to 8 marine related calls between July 28, 2023, to July 30, 2023.

On July 29, 2023, at 1:14 p.m. the Grey Bruce OPP Marine Unit responded to a report of a disabled vessel on Lake Huron. With the assistance of the Coast Guard the vessel made it to shore safely.

On July 29, 2023, at 2:27 p.m. the Grey Bruce OPP Marine Unit responded to a call of a sea doo taking on water. All occupants were wearing life jackets and were brought to shore safely.

On July 29, 2023, at 3:44 p.m. the Grey Bruce OPP Marine Unit responded to a capsized sailboat. All occupants were wearing lifejackets. With the assistance of the Coast Guard all occupants were brought to shore safely.

On July 30, 2023, at 1:33 p.m. the Grey Bruce Marine Unit was notified of 2 missing children at Sauble Beach. The Marine Unit patrolled the water, and the children were located safely on shore.

On July 30, 2023, 5:27 p.m. the Grey Bruce OPP Marine Unit was notified of 7 paddleboarders out on the lake from Tobermory without life jackets. All paddleboarders made it to shore safely. The OPP is reminding anyone who is navigating a paddleboard must have a lifejacket and sounding device.

There were no injuries reported in the above occurrences.

Armed Robbery In Exeter – Do You Recognize This Criminal?

(SOUTH HURON, ON) – Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Major Crime Unit and the Huron-Perth Community Street Crimes Unit (CSCU) are investigating a robbery that took place in Exeter on July 30th, 2023, at a business on Main Street North in South Huron (Exeter). 

On Sunday, July 30th, 2023, at 10:07 p.m., Huron County OPP was contacted by a store owner who called to report an armed robbery that had taken place at 9:10 p.m. One male suspect entered the store and demanded cash. During the robbery, the male suspect brandished a handgun. The suspect left the store with an undisclosed amount of money. It is believed that the suspect entered a vehicle parked just west of the store entrance.

Prior to this robbery, at approximately 9:00 p.m., police believe the same suspect was observed in South Huron (Huron Park) attempting to enter a variety store with a handgun but was unsuccessful as the business had just closed for the evening. While OPP officers were responding to Huron Park, the robbery in Exeter occurred.

The suspect pictured in the images below is described as follows:

Male, Caucasian, approximately 5′ 8″ tall, wearing black patterned shorts, a brown jacket, a black baseball cap, black face mask, and brown work boots.

Involved vehicle: Unknown at this time.

Police are asking for the public’s assistance should they have any knowledge of this incident, suspect, or involved vehicle. If you observe this individual, please do not approach them, call police.
