Matthew MILLER – Break And Enter, Assault Police

(CENTRAL HURON, ON) – A resident of Zorra Township in Oxford County is facing charges after he was caught stealing items out of a seasonal home located east of Goderich.

On June 14, 2021 at approximately 5:25 p.m. Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers received information about a break and enter in progress at a trailer located at Falls Road.

Within a few minutes officers arrived on scene and were able to locate the suspect still on scene. Further investigation revealed the suspect had loaded up a vehicle full of items taken from a trailer that did not belong to him. 

As a result, officers placed the suspect under arrest and took him into custody. During the arrest the accused also attempted to assault one of the arresting officers.

Matthew MILLER, 42 years of age from Zorra Township has been charged with: Break & Enter, Theft Over $5,000 and Assault Peace Officer. He has since been released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for August 9, 2021 at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich.

Theft Of ATV

(CENTRAL HURON, ON) – Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers are actively investigating the theft of an All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV) that was stolen overnight from a drive shed located on Hyrdo Line.

Investigators have since determined the thief entered into the unlocked drive shed sometime between 8:00 p.m. on June 15, 2021 and 11:00 a.m. this morning. Once inside the shed the thief located and stole the ATV. The keys were left in the ignition.

The stolen ATV is described as a red, 4-wheel drive, 2016 Can-Am Outlander valued at approximately $10,000.

Daniel BRITO Arrested After Stealing iPhone

(GRAND BEND, ON) – On June 12, 2021 at 10:45 a.m., members of the Lambton County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were contacted regarding the theft of a cell phone and shoes from the main beach in Grand Bend.  

Officers attended a local parking lot after the “Find my Iphone” app was utilized and took an individual into custody.    

Daniel BRITO, 70-years-old of London, has been charged with:

  •  Theft under $5000.
  • Possession Property Obtained by Crime under $5000.

The accused has been released and in scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice-Sarnia at a later date.

33 Year Old Hero Dies Attempting To Save Child – Matthew Reynold OTTENS

(TOWNSHIP OF MAPLETON, ON) – On June 13, 2021, at approximately 12:20 p.m. Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Mapleton Fire/Rescue and Guelph-Wellington Paramedic Services responded to a report of a possible drowning on Conestogo Lake in Mapleton Township.

It was reported that a child went in the water from a boat. The victim jumped in the water and attempted to assist the child. Witnesses were able to pull the child safely from the water, however, the victim failed to resurface.

At approximately 8:45 p.m., members of the OPP Underwater Search and Recovery Unit recovered the body of the missing man. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The victim has been identified as Matthew Reynold OTTENS, 33-years-old of Mapleton Township.

Centre Wellington Fire Rescue, ORNGE air ambulance, The OPP Underwater Search and Recovery Unit (USRU), and a helicopter from OPP Aviation Services also assisted in the extensive search.

A post-mortem examination has been scheduled for June 14, 2021.

Fatal Collision Update – Name Of Deceased Released

(ASHFIELD-COLBORNE-WAWANOSH, ON) – Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) continues to investigate a fatal collision that took place yesterday afternoon south of Carlow.   

On Sunday, June 13, 2021 at 4:30 p.m., Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Huron County Paramedic Services and firefighters from the Goderich Fire Department responded to the collision scene located on Lucknow Line (Huron County #1) south of Carlow. 

Upon arrival first responders located a motorcycle that had collided with the side of a farm tractor that was pulling an unloaded hay wagon. As a result of the collision both the driver and the passenger on the motorcycle were ejected.  

The driver of the motorcycle was pronounced dead at the scene and the passenger, a 35-year-old, from Goderich was transported to hospital via air ambulance with non-life threatening injuries.   

The deceased has since been identified as Gregory CRAWFORD, 50 years of age, from Central Huron.

The cause of the collision remains under investigation.   

Members from the West Region OPP Traffic Incident Management & Enforcement (TIME) Team attended the scene to assist with the collision investigation.

Lucknow Line (Huron County #1) between Blyth Road and School Road was closed for several hours for the collision investigation.

Fatal Collision On Lucknow Line

(ASHFIELD-COLBORNE-WAWANOSH, ON) – Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is currently on scene of a fatal crash involving a motorcycle and farm tractor that took place earlier this afternoon south of Carlow. 

On Sunday, June 13, 2021 at 4:30 p.m., Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Huron County Paramedic Services and firefighters from Goderich Fire Department responded to the crash scene located on Lucknow Line (Huron County #1) south of Carlow. 

One of the occupants of the motorcycle sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. The other occupant of the motorcycle has been transferred to hospital via air ambulance with non-life threatening injuries. 

The driver of the farm vehicle was uninjured. 

The name of the deceased will be released pending next-of-kin notification.

The cause of the crash is currently under investigation with assistance from the West Region OPP Traffic Incident Management & Enforcement (TIME) Team.

Lucknow Line (Huron County #1) between Blyth Road and School Road will be temporarily closed for the collision investigation. Please take an alternate route to avoid delays.

Suspended Impaired Driver Crashes Into Hydro Pole – BUSHELL

(HURON EAST, ON) – Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has laid an Impaired Driving charge against a Kincardine resident following a recent investigation.

On Monday, May 31, 2021 at 6:41 a.m. Huron OPP officers received information about a single vehicle automobile crash that had just taken place on Perth Line 55 west of Monkton. Officers from Huron & Perth OPP arrived on scene where they observed a pickup truck that had left the roadway and collided with a hydro pole. 

Upon speaking with the driver the investigating officer observed signs the driver was impaired by alcohol. As such the driver was placed under arrest and was taken into custody.

Christopher BUSHELL, 34 years of age from Kincardine has been charged with Operation While Impaired, Drive Motor Vehicle – No Licence and Drive While Under Suspension. The accused has since been released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for July 26, 2021 at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich.

Seaforth Methamphetamine Bust – Mathew SCHRAEDER

(HURON EAST, ON) – A driver from Clinton is facing an Impaired Driving charge following a traffic investigation conducted yesterday by Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP).   

Shortly before 3:00 p.m. on June 10, 2021 Huron County OPP officers were asked to check on two occupants of a vehicle that appeared to be unconscious. Officers approached the car that was on Main Street in Seaforth and noticed both the driver and passenger sleeping in the vehicle. Upon closer inspection the investigating officer noticed the vehicle was not in park and the engine was running.

Upon waking up the driver officers noted the driver was displaying several signs that he was impaired by a drug. As such, the driver was placed under arrest for Impaired Operation. The driver was transported to the Walkerton OPP Detachment where he performed further testing conducted by a Drug Recognition Evaluator (DRE). Upon completion of the tests the driver was deemed to be impaired by a drug.

Mathew SCHRAEDER, 36 years of age from Clinton has been charged with Operation While Impaired and Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Methamphetamine.

The accused remains in custody with a court appearance scheduled for June 11, 2021 at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich.

Owen Sound Murder Update – Fourth Suspect Arrested and Charged

(OWEN SOUND, ON) – A fourth individual has been charged in connection with a homicide investigation in Owen Sound.

The investigation began on May 16, 2021 after Owen Sound Police Service responded to a report of an altercation in the 900-block of 6th Street East in the City of Owen Sound. A 22-year old man was transported to hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.

On June 10, 2021, Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and Owen Sound Police Service (OSPS), under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB), arrested 21-year-old Mackenzie PATEREK of no fixed address. He has been charged with First Degree Murder under section 235(1) of the Criminal Code.

The accused remains in custody, pending a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice.

Three other individuals have previously been charged with First-Degree Murder.

Body Of Missing Boater Recovered – Name Of Deceased Released

(LAKESHORE, ON) – The boater reported missing in Lake St. Clair on Sunday June 6, 2021, has been recovered.

On Thursday June 10, 2021, at approximately 10:35 a.m., a boater on Lake St. Clair discovered a body floating in the lake and notified the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP). 

Members of the Essex County OPP Marine Unit, Chatham-Kent OPP Marine Unit and the OPP Underwater Search and Recovery Unit, recovered the body of the missing boater in the water off of Claireview Drive in the Municipality of Lakeshore. The victim was not wearing a life-jacket.

The coroner attended the scene and a post mortem examination has been scheduled for tomorrow, June 11, 2021 in Windsor, On.

The deceased has been identified as 58-year old Harold Todd HOWE of Lakeshore, Ontario.

Assault In Listowel – Donald SIMMONS Arrested

(NORTH PERTH, ON) – One person is facing a charge in the Municipality of North Perth following an assault.

Just after 2:00 p.m. on June 4, 2021, the Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a disturbance in the area of Davidson Ave North in Listowel. An investigation was completed and it was determined that one person assaulted another. There were no injuries as a result of the assault.

Donald SIMMONS, a 63-year-old resident of Huron East was arrested and charged with:

–       Assault

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Stratford at a later date to answer to the charge.

Quintin BALDWIN-GUNZEL 150 in an 80

(PERTH EAST, ON) – The Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged another driver after they were speeding more than 70km/h over the limit in the Township of Perth East.

On June 9, 2021 just after 2:30 p.m., police stopped a vehicle on Perth Line 55 after it was found to be travelling in excess of 150km/h in an 80km/h limit zone.

As a result, Quintin BALDWIN-GUNZEL, 25, of Kitchener, has been charged with:

–       Race motor vehicle – Excessive Speed

A seven day driving suspension and seven day vehicle impoundment was initiated as per statute. The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Stratford at a later date to answer to the charges.

Mackenzie LAFORET – 110 in a 60

(BLUEWATER, ON) – A resident of Tecumseh is facing a Racing charge following a traffic stop that took place in Varna this past weekend.

Just before 8:00 p.m. on June 5, 2021 a Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer was completing speed enforcement in Varna when a westbound automobile was observed speeding on Mill Road. The officer utilized a LIDAR to measure the speed of the Racing vehicle and it was measured at a speed in excess of 60 km/h over the posted 50 km/h zone. 

A traffic stop was initiated and the driver was subsequently charged. Mackenzie LAFORET, 25 years of age from Tecumseh has been charged with Race a Motor Vehicle – Excessive Speed. A court date has been scheduled for August 10, 2021 at Provincial Offences Court – Goderich. The defendant’s motor vehicle has been seized and impounded for the week, as well, an automatic 7-day driver’s licence suspension has been served on the driver.

Suspended Drunk Driver Arrested On Hwy 21

(ASHFIELD-COLBORNE-WAWANOSH, ON) – An Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh resident is facing Impaired Operation charges following a traffic stop conducted by Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) yesterday afternoon. 

Just before 2:30 p.m. on June 8, 2021 a Huron OPP officer was patrolling southbound on Bluewater Veteran’s Highway (Highway 21) south of Kintail when he had to take evasive action to avoid an oncoming vehicle. The officer turned around and followed the sport utility vehicle a short distance. While doing so the officer noticed the driver was driving in an erratic manner thus a traffic stop was initiated. 

Upon speaking with the driver the investigating officer observed the driver to be displaying several signs of impairment through alcohol. As such the driver was placed under arrest for Impaired Operation and was taken into custody. Further tests were completed at the Huron OPP Detachment and breath samples were found to be over the legal limit.

Christopher WALKER, 48 years of age, from Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh has been charged with Operation While Impaired, Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration 80 Plus and Drive While Under Suspension. He remains in custody with a bail hearing scheduled for June 11, 2021 at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich. 

The involved vehicle was towed from the scene and has been impounded.

UTV Stolen From Perth East

(PERTH EAST, ON) – On Friday June 4, 2021 just after 10:00 a.m., the Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a theft of a Utility Task Vehicle (UTV) from a property on Line 37 in the Township of Perth East.

Sometime overnight, unknown person(s) attended the property, and drove off with a Silver/Brown 2018 Polaris Ranger XP 1000 side-by-side, valued at over $15000. 

The investigation is on-going at this time.
