Matthew SMISSAERT – Firearms & Voyeurim

(CARLETON PLACE, ON) – The Lanark County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has laid charges following a voyeurism investigation.

Lanark County OPP officers responded to an incident in Carleton Place on April 3, 2025, after a resident located a hidden camera in her apartment. The investigation resulted in a male being arrested and charged the following day. Further investigation led to numerous firearms charges for the male.

Matthew SMISSAERT, 64-years-old from Carleton Place, has been charged with:

·        Voyeurism

·        Possession of a prohibited device

·        Unauthorized possession of a prohibited firearm – four counts

·        Careless storage of a firearm – 5 counts

The accused was held for a bail hearing and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Perth on April 7, 2025.
