Jonathan LAPIER Arrested – Details Released

(THAMES CENTRE, ON) – Automatic Licence Plate Recognition (ALPR) system assists officer in stopping and charging a driver from London.

On March 31, 2024, at 2:22 p.m., a Middlesex County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) member, while on general patrol on Elginfield Road in Thames Centre, was alerted by the Automatic Licence Plate Recognition (ALPR) system, of a possible suspended driver.

A traffic stop was initiated.

It was determined the driver was suspended and was placed under arrest without incident.

As a result, Jonathan LAPIER, a 50-year-old of London, has been charged under Criminal Code, the Highway Traffic Act and Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act with:

  • Failure to comply with release order – other than to attend court (two counts)
  • Driving while under suspension
  • Fail to surrender insurance card

The accused has been released from police custody and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice on May 22, 2024, to speak to the charges.

The In Car Camera and ALPR have been operating in Middlesex County OPP vehicles since March 13, 2023. Middlesex OPP officers continue to see drivers operating vehicles that do not have valid, registered licence plates, are currently driving unlicenced, while under suspension or prohibited.

Although vehicle owners are not required to purchase a validation sticker for their vehicle, licence plates are still required to be renewed annually or bi-annually. The Middlesex OPP wants you to know that driving a vehicle with expired validation carries a set fine of $110.

The OPP can be reached anywhere in the Province of Ontario at 1-888-310-1122.
