Traffic Enforcement

The Chatham-Kent police have charged a woman with driving without insurance.

Yesterday morning around 10:50 a.m. an officer on general patrol observed a black vehicle travelling northbound on Taylor Avenue in Chatham. The officer queried the licence plates and learned that the insurance status was unconfirmed. The officer initiated a traffic stop to further investigate. The female driver produced an insurance card that appeared valid however through investigation the officer learned that the woman’s insurance had been cancelled in February 2014 for non-payment.

The 48-year-old London woman was charged with driving a motor vehicle with no insurance.

MIDDLESEX OPP CLOSE HIGHWAY 401 FOR FATAL COLLISION INVESTIGATION

(MIDDLESEX COUNTY, ON) – Middlesex County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is currently investigating a fatal collision on Highway 401 westbound just west of Dorchester Road in the Municipality of Thames Centre. The collision involving a transport truck and a car occurred at approximately 6:16 a.m. As a result of the collision, police have closed all westbound lanes and traffic is being redirected off the highway at Dorchester Road.

Police are in the preliminary stages of the investigation and are asking motorists to find an alternate route.

HUNTSVILLE OPP SEARCHING FOR MISSING MALE

(HUNTSVILLE, ON) On Thursday May 8, 2014 just before midnight Huntsville Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was notified that a patient had gone missing from Huntsville and District Memorial Hospital sight. The OPP are concerned for his well-being and are seeking the public’s help in locating this male.

HUNTSVILLE OPP SEARCHING FOR MISSING MALE

(HUNTSVILLE, ON) On Thursday May 8, 2014 just before midnight Huntsville Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was notified that a patient had gone missing from Huntsville and District Memorial Hospital sight on Frank Miller Dr. The OPP are concerned for his well-being and are seeking the public’s help in locating this male.

Michael J PINCH (42yrs) of North Bay Ontario was last seen in the area of King William Street and Scott Street in the town of Huntsville. He is described as 6 feet tall, 180lbs, dark hair, full goatee mustache and facial hair and brown eyes. He was wearing a blue hospital gown and hospital booties.

The OPP Canine along with Emergency Response Team (ERT) are in the area in hopes of locating the missing person. The OPP will also be utilizing the helicopter in assisting with the search.

If anyone should see Mr. Finch is asked to immediately contact the OPP.

Robbery Suspect Arrested

(Kemptville, ON.) – Grenville County Ontario Provincial Police have charged a 22 year old male in relation to a robbery at a Kemptville convenience store.

On May 7th shortly before 10:00 p.m. a male entered the Quickie Convenience Store on Rideau Street wearing a bandana over his face. The male placed a bag on the counter indicating he wanted something. The male left empty handed and the police were called.

The O.P.P. Canine Unit and the O.P.P. Identification Unit attended the scene. Upon investigation it was determined that suspect could be located at a Kemptville residence. Shortly before 1:00 a.m. on May 8th, the O.P.P. Emergency Response Team attended 211 Dodson Street. The suspect was located and arrested in the residence.

Luke Duerksen, age 22 of Ottawa was charged with disguise with intent, robbery, fail to comply with a recognizance and two counts of fail to comply with a probation order. The accused appeared in Brockville Court and was remanded in custody until a bail hearing on May 16th, 2014.

DRUG WARRANT EXECUTED IN PALMERSTON

(TOWN OF MINTO, ON) – On May 8th 2014 at approximately 10:15 a.m. Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police Street Crime Unit executed a Controlled Drugs and Substances Act search warrant at an apartment on Main Street West, Palmerston.

Police located a male and female in the apartment who were arrested without incident. During the search of the residence, police located methamphetamine, marihuana, 5 cell phones, 2 scales and $1470.00 in cash. There were multiple weapons placed strategically around the residence.

Gordon KEESO age 47and Elizabeth VERNER age 38 both of Palmerston are each charged with;

-Possession of Methamphetamine for the Purpose of Trafficking- contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (C.D.S.A)

-Possession of Marihuana for the Purpose of Trafficking-C.D.S.A.

-Breach of Recognizances X 2 contrary to the Criminal Code.

They are to appear in Guelph Bail Court on May 9, 2014.

WELLINGTON COUNTY OPP WELCOMES TWO NEW POLICE DOGS

(WELLINGTON COUNTY, ON) -Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) recently acquired two new Police Service Dogs. Canine Handler Provincial Constable Barry Reid will be patrolling and responding to incidents in Wellington County and neighboring communities with his two new partners.

Knox is a 6 year old German shepherd originally from Germany that has been trained as a general service dog. He will be utilized for tracking wanted suspects, searches for lost and missing people, building searches, apprehensions, evidence searches and public order.

Jag is a 6 year old black Labrador retriever originally from Kingston, Ontario that is trained as a narcotic detector dog. He is trained to find 9 types of illicit drugs, as well as firearms.

Wellington County OPP has had a dedicated Canine Team since 2003. Knox and Jag will be the third and fourth dogs to serve the county. Both dogs will be involved with community service work and public demonstrations.

The OPP Canine Unit was originally formed in 1965, with three dogs being trained in Mount Forest. The Unit currently consists of 27 teams deployed strategically throughout the province.

Canine teams undergo 16 weeks of intensive training at the OPP Academy Canine Training Centre. This training includes promoting obedience, exposing the dogs to obstacles such as stairways, heights, ladders, tunnels and water.

Each dog lives at the handler’s home and stays in an outside kennel provided by the OPP. This develops a proper heavy undercoat that will protect the dog during cold weather assignments.

DRINKING AND DRIVING

(CENTRE WELLINGTON TOWNSHIP, ON) – On May 7, 2014 at approximately

7:08 a.m., Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers received a driving complaint about a 2005 Chevrolet driving in an unsafe manner. The vehicle was southbound on Highway 6 near Side Road 15, Centre Wellington Township when the driving complaint was received. It was located by officers parked in a municipal parking lot on St. Andrew Street West, Fergus. Officers spoke with the female who was sitting in the driver’s seat and determined she had consumed alcohol. She was arrested and transported to the Centre Wellington Operations Centre for further testing.

The Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (ADLS) program was initiated and her motor vehicle was impounded for seven days.

Monika ZIEBA age 41 of Fergus has been charged with Care or Control while Impaired, and Care or Control Over 80 mgs contrary to the Criminal Code. She is scheduled to appear in Guelph Criminal Court on May 23, 2014 to answer to the charges.

FAIL TO COMPLY

(Centre Hastings, ON) – On March 13, 2014 thirty-five year old Jeffrey FLEMING of Madoc, ON was arrested and charged with Producing a Schedule II Substance – Other than Marijuana and Breach of Recognizance. He was subsequently released from custody with conditions not to attend a particular address.

On May 6, 2014 at 2:40 p.m. members of Central Hastings O.P.P found FLEMING violating that condition. He was arrested and charged with Breach of Recognizance and held in custody pending a bail hearing on May 7, 2014.

ARMED ROBBERY IN TROUT CREEK

(TROUT CREEK, ON) – The Powassan Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is investigating an armed robbery which occurred on May 7, 2014 at approximately 7:30 pm., at the Trout Creek General Store on Main Street, Trout Creek.

A lone male entered the store armed with a knife and confronted the store employees and a customer. A quantity of cash was stolen and then suspect fled the store on foot. No one was hurt during the robbery.

Members of the Emergency Response Team and the canine unit attended the location, but were unable to locate the suspect.

The suspect is described as being:

White male

Approximately 6’ tall

Slim-medium build

Wearing a dark hoodie

MARINE FATALITY AT BELWOOD LAKE

(CENTRE WELLINGTON TOWNSHIP, ON) -On May 8, 2014 at approximately 8:50 a.m., Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers were called to the Grand River Conservation Authority-Belwood Lake. A park staff employee located a capsized aluminum boat near the Shand Dam with a male in the water nearby. He was pulled from the water by the Centre Wellington Fire Rescue Department and transported by Guelph-Wellington Emergency Medical Services (EMS) to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

He has been identified as Gordon Villeneuve age 77 of Kitchener. The cause of death has not been determined and is still under investigation.

OPP CHARGE MALE WITH SEVERAL OFFENCES

(ELLIOT LAKE, ON) – On May 3, 2014 at 8:20 pm members of the Ontario Provincial Police, East Algoma detachment received a call of a suspicious person and vehicle at a business on highway 108 north of Elliot Lake. While on route to the location, officers observed a vehicle fitting the description southbound on highway 108. The vehicle was stopped and the driver was question in regards to the complaint that was called in. During their investigation officers determined the driver had been drinking. As a result of their investigation the driver was arrested at the scene. Charged is 42 year old David Keith WALSH of Elliot Lake. He has been charged with the following criminal offences:

-operating a motor vehicle with more than 80mgs of alcohol
-break and enter-commit indictable offence
-possession of property obtained by crime under $5000.00
-possession of break in instruments

He is schedule to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake on July 8, 2014.

CAMARO STOPPED ON HWY 402 AT 203KM/H

(MIDDLESEX CENTRE, ON)- On Thursday May 8, 2014 at 10:18 a.m. a member of the Western Region Highway Safety Division (HSD) located a speeding Chevrolet Camaro vehicle travelling on the westbound lanes of HWY 402 at Westdel Bourne, Middlesex Centre. The vehicle was observed travelling at 203 km/h in a posted 100km/h zone.

As a result of an investigation police have charged the driver Randall WILCOX, age 38 of London, ON under the Stunt Driving legislation. The driver was issued a Part III Summons and is scheduled to appear in a London Provincial Offences Court room on June 2, 2014 to speak to the charges. The drivers licence was seized and his vehicle impounded for a period of seven days.

The Middlesex OPP wants to remind the public that we must all take responsibility for the safety of our roadways. Each year the unnecessary loss of life continues to grow in relation to the BIG FOUR” risk factors including impaired driving

OPP INVESTIGATE THEFT FROM VEHICLE

(NORFOLK COUNTY, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Norfolk County Detachment is reminding the public to protect their property and valuables against would be thieves after a vehicle entry was reported at a Chapel Street, Simcoe, Norfolk County, Ontario address.

On Thursday, May 8, 2014, in the early morning hours, unknown suspects entered a locked motor vehicle that was parked in the driveway of the residence. Once inside, unknowns proceeded to remove a dual DVD player.

Here are some tips to prevent you from becoming a victim:

Always secure your vehicle doors when parking your vehicle, even if you are only going to be a few minutes.
Remove valuables from your vehicle. If you can’t, then keep them from plain view.
Park in well lighted areas with high traffic.
Clean out your garage and park your vehicle in it – locking your vehicle and the garage door.

Remember, if you see something, say something. If you see suspicious persons or behaviour approaching your vehicle or roaming the area, call the Norfolk County OPP at 1-888-310-1122.
