THEFT OF DESIGNER WATCH

(Selwyn Township, ON) – On Saturday, May 10, members of the Peterborough County OPP were called to investigate a report of a Theft from a business that occurred on Lakefield Road.

On May 3, a male suspect entered the Overstock Liquidation Centre located on Lakefield Road. While store employees were occupied the male was able to gain access to a Jewelry display case in the store. Once access to the case was obtained the male stole a designer watch and then left the store without making attempts to pay for the merchandise.

Stolen is a Men’s Omega Chronograph watch with a retail value of $6900

The suspect is described as a white male, approx. 50 years old, balding with brown hair, wearing glasses, 5 foot 8 inches tall of medium build. At the time he was wearing a maroon shirt with beige pants and a brown coat.

BREAK AND ENTER TO RESTAURANT

(Douro Dummer Township, ON) – On Saturday May 10, members of the Peterborough County OPP were called to investigate a report of a Break and Enter to a business located on County Road 2.

In the early morning hours of May 10, unknown suspect(s) gained entry to a closed restaurant, through a side window. The suspects after gaining entry searched the interior of the premises then left in an unknown direction.

DRINKING AND DRIVING CHARGES

(City of Peterborough, ON) – On May 10, 2014, at approximately 2:04 a.m. officers from the Peterborough County OPP had occasion to investigate a motorist on Chemong Road near Milroy Drive.

Officers patrolling the area at the time noted a Toyota Pick Up Truck being operated on the road way in an erratic manner. As a result of the investigation 53 year old Janice BUTTERY of Peterborough was arrested and charged with, Impaired Operation and Having Over 80mgs of Alcohol in her Blood.

BUTTERY was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in Peterborough Provincial Courts on June 26, 2014

OPP INVESTIGATING A SUDDEN DEATH

(KENORA, ON) Members of the Kenora detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Forensic Identification Unit and Kenora Crime Unit are investigating a sudden death on the north side of Kenora.

On May 12, 2014 at approximately 7:00am, police received a report of a deceased male on the north side of Kenora. The police are not releasing the identity of the individual pending notification of the next of kin.

Police are continuing the investigation. An update will be provided when more information arises.

YOUNG MALE CAUGHT STEALING FROM VEHICLES IN PARIS

(COUNTY OF BRANT, ON) – The County of Brant Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), an officer was called to a suspicious male looking in vehicles along West River Street in the Town of Paris in the County of Brant.

At approximately 5:05 a.m. on May 11th, 2014 the officer located the young male hiding under a vehicle. After further investigation a 15 year old male from the County of Brant was arrested.

The accused is facing the following Criminal Charges

Theft Under $5,000.00

Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000.00

Possession of Schedule II substance- Cannabis Marihuana Under 30 grams

The young male is scheduled to attend Provincial Court in Brantford on June 25th, 2014 to answer to the charges.

OPP INVESTGATE ORO-MEDONTE HOUSE FIRE

(Oro-Medonte, ON) – Barrie Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was called to a house fire on May 12th, 2014 at 4:52 am. Police and Oro-Medonte Fire Department responded to a house fire on Line 10 North in Oro-Medonte Township.

A resident who was in the home at the time was transported to a local hospital and later air lifted to a Toronto area Hospital to be treated for severe burns. Police and the Office of the Fire Marshal (OFM) are still investigating the fire. The fire scene is being held by Police until the Fire Marshal has completed their investigation.

Update: SERIOUS MOTOR VEHICLE COLLISION CLOSES PINEHURST ROAD

(COUNTY OF BRANT, ON) – The County of Brant Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), are investigating a serious two vehicle collision that occurred on Pinehurst Road at Glen Morris Road in the County of Brant.

At approximately 6:30 p.m. Sunday May 11th, 2014, Sharon BALLET a 45 year old female from Waterloo Region was driving a Yamaha motorcycle north bound on Pinehurst Road. The motorcycle was struck by a Ford pickup truck that was east bound on Glen Morris Road. The driver of the motorcycle was taken to a Waterloo Region Hospital and later transferred to a Hamilton area hospital with life threatening injuries.

The driver of the pickup truck Nathaniel ENNS 30 years of age from Waterloo Region was charged with Careless Driving under the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario

West Region Technical Traffic Collision Investigators are assisting the County of Brant OPP with the investigation. Pinehurst Road at Glen Morris Road was closed until approximately midnight for the investigation.

POLICE ARREST TWO ON MOUNT PELION

(QUINTE WEST, ON) On Sunday May 11th, 2014 shortly after 3:00 am Quinte West OPP responded to a drug offences call on top of Mount Pelion in the City of Quinte West. The complainant was a civilian worker at the Quinte West OPP detachment who observed the two accused people using illegal drugs on the city’s cameras. When officers arrived on scene they arrested a man and woman for possession of cocaine and marijuana. 23 year old Ian MARR of Murray Ward and 21 year old Cassandra LORTIE of Trenton were both released on a Promise to Appear with a first appearance date of June 26th, 2014 in Belleville court.

DOG CAUSES MOTORCYCLE COLLISION

A 43 year old St. Thomas, ON man suffered minor injuries yesterday May 11, 2014 after being involved in a motorcycle collision with a dog.

The motorcycle, a 2007 Harley Davidson, was travelling eastbound on Vienna Line in the area of Carter Road, Malahide Township when the motorcycle struck a dog which had run onto the roadway. The dog was killed in the collision and the driver of the motorcycle was transported to hospital with minor injuries.

Police investigation is continuing.

DRIVING COMPLAINT RESULTS IN IMPAIRED CHARGES

(HALIBURTON, ON) – On May 08, 2014 Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Haliburton Highlands Detachment responded to an erratic driver on Highway 118 in the Township of Minden Hills, Ontario. Police located the 2007 Toyota pickup truck at the gas station in Carnarvon and the male driver was arrested for Impaired Care or Control of a Motor Vehicle. The male was transported to the OPP detachment for breath tests and as a result, William NICHOLSON age 74 from Norland Ontario has been charged with the following:

Impaired Care or Control
Care or Control with Over 80 Milligrams of Alcohol

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Minden on June 04, 2014.

Serious Stop Sign Related Collision

(MUNICIPALITY OF WEST PERTH, ON) On Sunday May 11, 2014, at 4:45 p.m., Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers were called to a two vehicle crash at the intersection of Perth Line 44 and Road 150.

Investigation revealed that a 2006 Ford F350 pickup truck had been travelling south bound on Road 150 when it failed to stop at the stop sign and crossed directly in front of an east bound 2006 Dodge pickup truck pulling a horse trailer (with one horse inside). The driver of the Dodge truck braked but was unable to avoid colliding with the passenger side of the Ford. The two occupants of the Ford were able the exit the vehicle before it caught on fire and burned.

The 37 year old female driver of the Dodge pickup truck, an Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh resident and her 18 year old female passenger, a Municipality of Central Huron resident did not sustain injuries as a result of the collision.

The occupants of the Ford pickup truck were both Toronto residents. The 57 year old male driver was uninjured while the 73 year old male passenger sustained major but non-life threatening injuries. He was transported by Perth County Ambulance to a local hospital.

The driver of the Ford pickup has been charged with “careless driving”.

The Ford pickup truck was completely destroyed by the impact and the subsequent fire. The Dodge pickup truck and the horse trailer it was towing sustained extensive damage. The horse appeared to be uninjured.

This collision occurred on a Sunday afternoon in ideal weather and driving conditions. It reminds us of the importance of paying attention to stop signs. No lives were lost in this avoidable crash however the potential for loss of life was great. Motorists are urged to “Stop and Look” before proceeding through stop sign controlled intersections.

ROBBERY

On May 5, 2014 about 1:20am the victim, a 27 year Kitchener male, was responding to a request for pizza delivery at 40 Paulander Drive, Kitchener. Upon arrival the victim was confronted by 3 male suspects brandishing edged weapons. The suspects demanded cash and electronics which were handed over. One suspect also entered the victim’s vehicle to search for additional items. There were no injuries as a result of this robbery. The suspects are described as: 1. Male, Black, 5’10” tall, late teens/early 20s wearing baggy grey or white clothing; 2. Male, White or Hispanic, 5’10” tall, late teens, thin build; and 3. Male, White or Hispanic, 6’ tall, late teens. On May 12, 2013 at 1:16 am police arrested a 23 year old female and a 26 year old male, both from Kitchener, in connection to an ongoing initiative into property crime reduction. Some of the offences involved attempts at entering and committing thefts from parked vehicles. Through further investigation, personal property was located which may be linked to other incidents of theft in the area. The affected area may include those neighbourhoods near Madison Ave. S, Stirling Ave. S, and Heiman St. in the city of Kitchener. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Waterloo Regional Police Service regarding any potentially linked incidents. The accused persons are expected to be charged with numerous criminal offences.

MVC HIT AND RUN

On May 10, 2014 at approximately 11:35pm a motor vehicle struck two light standards at the intersection of Ottawa Street South and Strasburg Road in the City of Kitchener. The occupants of the motor vehicle fled the scene before police arrival. It is unknown if any injuries were sustained by the occupants. Traffic was re-routed for several hours while the light standards were replaced. DISTURBANCE

On Saturday, May 10, 2014 at approximately 5 p.m. an altercation occurred among several adult males on King Street in the downtown area of Kitchener. As result of this altercation, one male was treated for non-life threatening injuries at a local hospital. Police have received information that passers-by may have caught this altercation on their cellphone video.
