FIGHT AT WESTSIDE BOWL – OPP SEEKING PUBLIC’S ASSISTANCE

(TOWNSHIP OF GEORGIAN BLUFFS, ON) – On Saturday, May 10, 2014 at approximately 11:37 p.m., Grey County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of a physical altercation between two groups of people at the Westside Bowl located on Hwy. 6 & 21 in the Township of Georgian Bluffs.

A verbal argument over the use of a pool table erupted into a physical altercation causing non-life threatening injuries to three people.

The first group, consisting of 3 males ages 15, 20, 45, and two females, ages 19 and 45 remained at the scene while the second group, consisting of two males and one female left the area prior to police arrival. One of the males was described as having red hair.

CARELESS USE OF FIREARM

(POWASSAN, ON) – On May 13, 2014, members of the Powassan Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a call on Wilson Lake Road, Port Loring. Police were informed that three individuals had been sitting outside of a residence at approximately 5:50 p.m. when they heard a loud bang and two of the individuals were subsequently struck by unknown projectiles, which was later determined to be shotgun pellets. One of the victims sustained minor injuries to the head.

Rick BAIN, age 56 of Port Loring is charged of careless use of firearms section 86.1, of the criminal code of Canada.

The Powassan OPP want to remind people to practice safe firearm handling practices. Treat all guns as if they are loaded. Ensure that you safely carry your firearm. Never let your firearm “cover” anything you are not willing to destroy. Keep the safety on and finger off the trigger until you are actually going to fire. Be sure of your target and beyond. If you are not sure of either, do not fire and wait. You are responsible for the rounds you fire, so make sure of what is beyond your target and what your target is. There may be others in the forest close by.

THEFT OF MINI DIRT BIKE

(Bancroft, Ontario) – On Thursday the 15th of May 2014, the Bancroft detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received the report of a theft from a residence on Inlet Bay Road in the Municipality of Highlands East. Investigation revealed that sometime since Thursday May 08th a red and black BAHA mini dirt bike was stolen from the property.

PUBLIC ASSISTANCE AIDS POLICE IN SOLVING LOCAL BUSINESS THEFTS

(INGERSOLL, ON.) – On May 14, 2014, Oxford County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers responded to break, enter and thefts to five local businesses. The businesses were located on King Street West and Thames Street South, and the thefts occurred sometime overnight.

Through investigation and with the assistance of the public, OPP have charged 40 year old Robert MAGVAS of no fixed address under the Criminal Code of Canada with:

Break, Enter a place – commit indictable offence ~ 5 counts

Possession Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000 – in Canada

Possession Break In Instruments

Fail to Comply with Probation Order

The male was held for a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice in Woodstock.

The OPP would like to thank members of the public for being vigilant, keeping their “Eyes on the Street” and reporting suspicious activity as it happens. It is important for this information to get to police when the suspects may still be in the area.

PROTECT YOURSELVES AND YOUR BELONGINGS

(INGERSOLL, ON) – The Oxford County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to an attempted break and enter to a residence on Henderson Court in Ingersoll, which occurred at approximately 12:02 a.m. on May 14, 2014.

Entry into the residence was not gained. OPP searched the area, and the suspect(s) were not located.

The OPP is asking residents to be vigilant for suspicious vehicles or persons that may be in your neighbourhoods. The public should try to get descriptions, licence plate numbers, direction of travel and report the information immediately to their local police service. It is important for this information to get to police when the suspects may still be in the area.

DRIVER CHARGED WITH RACING

(MUNICIPALITY OF GREY HIGHLANDS, ON) – On Wednesday, May 14, 2014 at approximately 10:43 p.m., a Grey County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer on patrol, observed a 2007 Mazda motor vehicle travelling at fast rate of speed north bound on Hwy. 10 near Road 190 in the Municipality of Grey Highlands. The cruiser’s radar was activated and the Mazda registered a speed of 144 km/hr. The posted speed limit is 80 km/hr.

Ryan BRANFORD, 22, of Owen Sound was charged with racing a motor vehicle contrary to the Highway Traffic Act. He is to appear in court in Owen Sound on June 16, 2014.

His licence was suspended and the vehicle was impounded for 7 days.

CHAINSAW AND SNOWMOBILE SHOCKS STOLEN FROM SHED

(TOWNSHIP OF GEORGIAN BLUFFS, ON) – On Tuesday, May 13, 2014 at approximately 8:25 a.m., Grey County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of a break-in to a shed on 60 Sideroad in the Township of Chatsworth. The theft occurred sometime within the last week.

Unknown person(s) entered an insecure shed on the property. A 2004 Stihl 017 chainsaw valued at $300 and a pair of Fox Air Float snowmobile shocks valued at $900 were taken.

ORILLIA OPP INVESTIGATING SUSPICIOUS MALE

(ORILLIA, ON) – The Orillia Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is seeking the assistance of the public in identifying a male party involved in an incident on Dunn Avenue in the City of Orillia.

On Tuesday May 14, 2014 at approximately 3:45 p.m., an unidentified male approached a female on Dunn Avenue and made inappropriate comments. The male had no physical contact with the female and was last seen walking toward Carleton Street.

The victim described the male as chubby, thicker build, just under six feet, wearing a grey t-shirt with a black design, dark shorts and dark skate shoes. The male was described has white, with freckles, no facial hair and approximately sixteen years old.

The Orillia OPP is currently investigating similar incidents which took place on Simcoe Street in Orillia in February and April of 2014.

ALERT CITIZEN CONTACTS POLICE –

(NORFOLK COUNTY, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Norfolk County Detachment have arrested and charged a 47 year old female after police were contacted by an alert citizen at a Prescott Street, Simcoe, Norfolk County, Ontario, address.

On Tuesday, May 13, 2014 at approximately 10:54 p.m., an alert citizen observed a suspicious female enter Ryerse’s Garden Gallery. The female attended the rear of the business was subsequently located in a covered greenhouse. The female was confronted by the concerned citizen who immediately contacted police.

As result of investigation, police arrested a female.

Charged with Theft Under $5000 dollars is 47 year old Amanda GREGOROFF of Norfolk County, Ontario.

She is to appear in Provincial Court, Simcoe at a later date to answer to the charge.

OPP INVESTIGATE THEFT FROM VEHICLE

(NORFOLK COUNTY, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Norfolk County Detachment is reminding the public to protect their property and valuables against would be thieves after a vehicle entry was reported at a Robinson Street, Simcoe, Norfolk County, Ontario address.

On Tuesday, May 13, 2014, between 4:45 p.m. and 5:15 p.m., unknown suspects entered an unlocked motor vehicle that was parked in the alleyway between Robinson Street and Peel Street. Once inside, unknowns proceeded to remove an iPad 2 and a wallet that contained personal and financial information.

The wallet is described as red in colour with a gold coloured snap and the iPad 2 is described as silver in colour.

The theft is valued at approximately $500 dollars.

THEFT OF CASH FROM BUSINESS

(FOREST, ON) Lambton Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a theft complaint from a local business on James Street. The incident took place in the afternoon hours of May 14, 2014 when a suspect presented himself as a customer during business hours.

The suspect, who stole an undisclosed amount of cash is described as a white male in his twenties, with brown eyes and having short brown hair. The male was wearing running shoes, baggy blue jeans, a blue jacket, a grey T-shirt, and a white hat with the letters “DC” on the hat. The male, estimated at 5’7” and about 140 pounds, was clean shaven and polite during his time in the business.

LAMBTON COUNTY OPP OFFICER CHARGED WITH ASSAULT

(LAMBTON COUNTY, ON) The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Professional Standards Bureau (PSB) has charged an OPP officer as a result of an investigation into an incident that occurred while the member was on duty and making an arrest in the Lambton County OPP detachment area on December 31, 2013.

As a result of the investigation, Provincial Constable Carmen BRESSETTE, a 29 year member of the OPP currently assigned to the Lambton County OPP Detachment, has been charged with one count of assault with a weapon contrary to the Criminal Code.

He has been assigned to administrative duties pending his court appearance at the Ontario Court of Justice in Sarnia on June 9, 2014.

Youths Arrested in String of Thefts

(SD&G) – As a result of an ongoing theft investigation SD&G OPP Street Crimes Unit arrested two youths on County Road 18, South Dundas Township.

Two 17yr old males (from Cornwall, On) were arrested and face charges of:

– Theft Under $5,000 from a Motor Vehicle
– Failure to Comply with disposition
– Poss. of a Schedule II substance for the Purpose of Trafficking
– Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose
– Possession of a Schedule II substance – Cannabis Marihuana

Both males are scheduled to appear 05Jun14 in Cornwall Youth court.

WARRANT EXECUTED IN THE CITY OF ORILLIA

(ORILLIA, ON) – On May 13th, 2014 at approximately 1:30 p.m. members of the Orillia Street Crime Unit, in conjunction with the Drug Enforcement Unit (DEU), Community Drug Action Team (CDAT), and members of the Orillia Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) executed a warrant at an address on Laclie Street in the City of Orillia.

During the execution of the warrant 16 Marihuana plants were seized.

Carl MURRANT, 56 years old of Orillia has been charged with Producing Cannabis Marihuana, Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking Cannabis Marihuana and Possession of Cannabis Marihuana.

Christine MURRANT, 53 years old of Orillia has been charged with Producing Cannabis Marihuana, Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking Cannabis Marihuana and Possession of Cannabis Marihuana.

Christopher WHITNALL, 28 years old of Orillia has been charged with Producing Cannabis Marihuana, Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking Cannabis Marihuana and Possession of Cannabis Marihuana.

All three parties have been released on a Promise to Appear with a court date in Orillia on the 8th July 2014.

UP-DATE – ADDITIONAL SEXUAL ASSAULT CHARGES LAID

(PETAWAWA, ON) – On March 29, 2014 the Upper Ottawa Crime Unit of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) launched an investigation into a report of a sexual assault.
On April 1, 2014, investigators charged Derrick GALLAGHER, 31 of Petawawa with 8 counts of Sexual Assault and 2 counts of Voyeurism contrary to the Criminal Code.
Further to this ongoing investigation, the OPP has laid additional charges against the accused in relation to 7 additional victims bring the total to 16 victims.
These addition charges are:
– Sexual Assault
– Voyeurism (Five Counts)
– Break and Enter dwelling house with intent to commit Indictable Offence
He is appearing by video remand in the Ontario Court of Justice in Pembroke, today.
Investigators, under the direction of OPP Acting Detective Inspector Peter Donnelly, Criminal Investigation Branch are being assisted by the Canadian Forces National Investigation Service (NIS).
