VEHICLE TIRES SLASHED

(MUNICIPALITY OF MEAFORD, ON) – On Monday, May 19, 2014 at approximately 9:39 a.m., Grey County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of two tires slashed on a 1998 Chevrolet cube van parked on Parker Street, West, Meaford, in the Municipality of Meaford.

The two rear tires of the van were slashed sometime overnight using a small knife which was still imbedded in one of the tires.

FATAL TRACTOR ROLLOVER

(Madoc Twp, ON) – On May 18, 2014 at 4:40 p.m. members of Central Hastings O.P.P attended a fatal tractor rollover collision at the intersection of Union Road and Kellers Bridge Road in Madoc Township. The tractor was initially travelling westbound on Kellers Bridge Road then it slowed to commence a left turn on Union Road. The tractor failed to negotiate the turn, crossed into the west ditch and rolled over. The driver, 69 year old David CRAWFORTH was pinned under the tractor and pronounced dead on the scene. The OPP Technical Traffic Collision Investigation Unit continues to investigate. A post mortem was held on May 19, 2014.

DAMAGED FLOAT PLANE

(Marmora, ON) – On May 18, 2014 at 7:15 p.m. members of Central Hastings O.P.P received a complaint of a plane possibly crashing into Crowe Lake in the Municipality of Marmora and Lake. The investigation confirmed that a Cessna Float Plane tipped its right wing while landing and the wing struck the water. Although the plane sustained heavy damage, the lone pilot was not injured.

PICKUP TRUCK VS. COW COLLISION

(Hwy# 62, ON) – On May 18, 2014 at 1:15 a.m. members of Central Hastings O.P.P responded to a motor vehicle collision on Highway # 62 at Moira Road in the Municipality of Centre Hastings. A pickup truck travelling south on Highway # 62 struck a cow that was standing on the highway. Extensive front end damage was sustained to the truck but none of the occupants were injured.

OPP SEEKING HELP OF PUBLIC IN LOCATING MISSING YOUTH

(FORT FRANCES, ON) – The Rainy River District Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is asking the public for help in locating a missing Fort Frances youth.

Mariah WILSON, age 15 years of Fort Frances, ON was last seen on Armit Avenue, Fort Frances on the morning of May 18, 2014. She is described as a First Nation female, 5’1” tall, 101 lbs, thin build, brown eyes, brown hair, long dark brown hair wearing a grey sweater, green shoes, black pants and carrying an Ipod.

Motor Vehicle Crash Highway 118 Ramp

(BRACEBRIDGE, ON) -The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) of the Bracebridge detachment is investigating a crash on the Highway 11 off ramp to Highway 118 East, Bracebridge over the weekend.

On May 18, 2014 at 3:04 am an OPP officer on general patrol came across a crash on the Highway 11 Northbound off ramp to Highway 118 East, in Bracebridge. The officer began administering first aid immediately while waiting for paramedics. The off ramp was closed while the OPP, paramedics, and the fire department responded to the crash scene. The single pickup truck was found to have crashed into a rock-cut on the East side of the ramp, and came to rest on the West shoulder. There were no other vehicles involved.

The two male occupants were found to have serious injuries due to the crash and were transported to the hospital.

The Technical Collision Investigators (TCI), and members of the Bracebridge detachment continue to conduct a thorough investigation to reveal the cause of the crash. There have been no charges laid as the investigation is on-going.

The ramp was open to traffic at 1:30 pm the same day.

Dean WEAVER – Drunk Driving

(CHATHAM-KENT, ON) On May 19, 2014, just after 4:30 p.m., Chatham-Kent Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers stopped a Harley Davidson motorcycle on Prince Albert Road near Gregory Drive in Chatham.

While officers were speaking with the driver, 50 year old Dean WEAVER, from Chatham, it was determined that he had been consuming alcoholic beverages.

Subsequent tests indicated that the driver was over the legal limit and he will appear in a Chatham court on June 6, 2014, to answer to the following charges:

Driving With More Than 80 mgs of Alcohol in Blood

Driving While Ability Impaired

Drive Left of Centre On a Curve

Chatham-Kent OPP would like to remind drivers that there is no safe amount of alcohol consumption when driving. If you consume alcoholic beverages, plan for a safe ride home by using a designated driver, a taxi or public transit to ensure that you and others sharing the road arrive safely.

IMPAIRED DRIVER ARRESTED AS A RESULT OF DRIVING COMPLAINT

(CHATHAM-KENT, ON) On May 18, 2014, just after 12:00 p.m., Chatham-Kent Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers responded to a complaint of a Chevrolet automobile driving erratically on Highway 401 eastbound, near Queens Line.

Chatham OPP officers located the vehicle and stopped it on Highway 401 near Communication Road. Officers spoke with the driver and determined that he had been consuming alcoholic beverages.

Subsequent tests indicated that the driver, 57 year old John HULSE, from Brampton, was over the legal limit. He will appear in a Chatham Court on June 25, 2014, to answer to the charge of Driving With More Than 80 mgs. of Alcohol in Blood.

Male Charged with Assaulting Female on Motorcycle

On May 17th, 2014 at approximately 12:30pm, an adult female was operating a motocross style motorcycle on Fire Route 94 in the Township of Trent Lakes when a male attempted to grab her arm. The female managed to break free from this male and drive away. Upon returning back to her cottage a short time later, the female observed the same male on the roadway blocking her. The male grabbed the handlebars of the motorcycle and yelled at the female about motorcycles being operated on the road. The female managed to pull the motorcycle away and returned to her cottage. The OPP were contacted and as a result of a subsequent investigation:

Charged is: Timothy Peat, 72 years of age of the Township of Trent Lakes

Sec 266 Criminal Code of Canada – Assault”

Mr. Peat is scheduled to appear at Peterborough Provincial Court on June 26th

ASSAULT AND THREAT CHARGES

(COLBORNE, ON) – On Saturday May 17, 2014 members of the Northumberland Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) investigated a report of an assault between a male and two females in downtown Colborne, Ontario.

At approximately 3:56 am OPP officers were in the downtown core of Colborne when they were approached by two females who stated that two males had approached them outside a local drinking establishment after being refused entry after closing. One female was an off duty employee at the establishment. One of the males began arguing with the two women, spat on them both and threatened to kill them and burn their houses down.

Both women reported that the male suspect, who was known to OPP, had fled from the scene once he saw them speaking with the Police. A second male that was with the suspect attempted to restrain his friend prior to his running away but was not investigated by OPP. The suspect was not located at that time.

On Monday May 19, 2014 at 3:05 pm, Northumberland OPP Crime Unit members attended to the known address of the suspect where he was observed outside his residence. The suspect was arrested by OPP and taken into custody.

Ryan Douglas KNAPMAN, 28 from Brighton, Ontario is charged with two counts of assault and two counts of uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm under the Criminal Code. The accused is being held for a bail hearing on Tuesday May 20, 2014 at 1:30 pm in the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg.

SEASONAL PROPERTY EXTENSIVELY DAMAGED DURING BREAK-IN

(MUNICIPALITY OF GREY HIGHLANDS, ON) – On Friday, May 16, 2014, at approximately 7:22 p.m., Grey County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of a break-in to a seasonal property on the 8th Concession A in the Municipality of Grey Highlands.

Sometime between Monday, April 21 and Friday May 16, unknown person(s) forcibly entered the residence. Once inside, the suspects vandalized several rooms in the house, causing extensive damage throughout. Windows were smashed; furniture broken and overturned; some of which was located outside. Paint had been poured on several floors and smeared on the walls. Appliances and light fixtures damaged. The suspects also caused extensive damage to property inside the garage as well as a vehicle that was parked at the residence

Police continue to investigate.

TRAFFIC STOP LEADS TO DRUG ARREST

(Sault Ste. Marie, ON ) – On Friday, May 16th at approximately 12:10 pm an Ontario Provincial Police officer from the Highway Safety Division was conducting moving radar on Highway 17, just north of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario.

The officer observed a grey Kia Sedona van travelling southbound at a high rate of speed.

The vehicle was stopped on Highway 17, in the City of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario.

Further investigation revealed that the driver was in possession of a large quantity of a substance believed to be Cannabis Marihuana.

OPP seized approximately 84 pounds of Cannabis Marihuana with an estimated total street value of $577,425.00.

Fifty-seven year old Larry Donald CLARK of Calgary, Alberta was arrested and charged with Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking a controlled substance, contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substance Act.

The accused is being held in custody pending a bail hearing today in Provincial Court, Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario.

Police Investigating Overnight Break In

(CARRICK TWP, ON) – On May 16, 2014 at 4:23 pm, the South Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of an overnight break in at a farm in the 100 block of Grubb Road in Carrick Township. Sometime between 9:00 pm on May 15, 2014 and 11:00 am on May 16, 2014, the house and 2 outbuildings were entered. The list of stolen property includes a Red 2009 Polaris All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV) bearing VIN# 4XALH46A49B611977, a Plasma cutter, 4 sets of Torches and some assorted jewellery including rings, ear rings and small chains. The value of the stolen property is estimated to be more than $5,000.

Kenneth MACDONALD – Drunk Driving

(BRUCE PENINSULA, ON) On May 17, 2014 at 7:14 p.m., an Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer with the Highway Safety Division (HSD) was on patrol along Highway 6 north of Mar Side Road when he observed a grey Toyota Rav4 moving at a high rate of speed. The vehicle speed was displayed on radar at 125 km/h in a posted 80 km/h zone. The officer stopped the vehicle and found that the driver had been drinking alcohol. 47 year old Kenneth MACDONALD of Northern Bruce Peninsula has been charged with Operate over 80 milligrams and Speeding. He is scheduled to appear in Owen Sound Court on June 19, 2014 to answer to the charges.
