OPP ARREST THREE DRIVERS FOR IMPAIRED OPERATION OVER THE LONG WEEKEND

(ALMAGUIN HIGHLANDS, ON) The Almaguin Highlands Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were patrolling the streets this Victoria Day long weekend and conducting R.I.D.E. programs (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere). OPP officers arrested 3 separate drivers for impaired operation.

On Saturday May 17, 2014 at approximately 12:00 a.m. officers were conducting R.I.D.E on Highway 11 northbound near Station Road, Perry Township. Officers observed a newer Dodge Challenger approach the R.I.D.E. program and subsequently after talking to the driver, arrested him for having more than 80 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood. The driver was also found to be in possession of marihuana.

The driver, David MONKS 39, of Cambridge Ontario was charged with care or control of a motor vehicle, contrary to the Criminal Code and possession of a substance, contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.

The accused was released from police custody and is to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Sundridge, Ontario on Thursday, June 26, 2014.

Again, on May 17, 2014, OPP was patrolling Highway 124 in Magnetawan Township at approximately 5:30 p.m. OPP stopped a vehicle, a Chevrolet pickup truck and after speaking to the driver, arrested the accused for having more than 80 milligrams of alcohol in 100 milliliters of blood.

OPP charged Robert LOGOZZO, 38 of Brampton with having more than 80 milligrams of alcohol in 100 milliliters of blood, contrary to the Criminal Code.

The accused was released from police custody and is to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Sundridge, Ontario on Thursday, June 12, 2014.

A third driver was arrested on Sunday May 18, 2014 at approximately 8:15 p.m., for exceeding the legal limit. OPP officers were conduction a R.I.D.E. program on Highway 592 and Highway 518 in Parry Township when a grey Nissan Altima approached the R.I.D.E. check. Officers spoke to the driver and subsequently arrested him for having more than 80 milligrams of alcohol in 100 milliliters of blood.

The driver, Joshua WLOSHINSKY, 26 of Markham, Ontario was charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle, having more than 80 milligrams of alcohol in 100 milliliters of blood, contrary to the Criminal Code. The driver was also charged with several Highway Traffic Act offences and Liquor Licence Act offence.

The accused was released from police custody and is to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Sundridge, Ontario on Thursday, June 26, 2014.

BREAK AND ENTER TO A CEDAR LANE RESIDENCE IN THE TOWN OF KEARNEY

(KEARNEY, ON) The Almaguin Highlands Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is investigating a break, enter and theft to a Cedar Lane, Kearney Ontario residence. Unknown person(s) entered the residence and took the following items, a Polaris All-Terrain Vehicle, 2 chainsaws, and fishing tackle. The value of the stolen items is approximately $10,000.

BREAK AND ENTER TO WILLIAM STREET RESIDENCE

(COUNTY OF BRANT, ON) – The County of Brant Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), officers are investigating a break and enter to a residence on William Street in the Town of Paris.

Sometime between 6:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m. on Saturday May 17th, 2014 suspects entered the residence. The suspects removed computers, a Play Station, three guitars, amplifiers, art work, jewellery, cash and numerous other items. With the large amount of items taken the suspects would have made numerous trips to their vehicle, if you observed anything suspicious please call the County of Brant OPP at 519-442-2242.

DRIVER CHARGED IN TWO VEHICLE COLLISION

(CHATHAM-KENT, ON) On May 19, 2014, just before 10:00 a.m., Chatham-Kent Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers responded to a collision involving two vehicles on Highway 401 westbound near Drake Side Road.

The collision occurred when a Cooper Mini car that was traveling westbound was struck from the rear by a westbound Volkswagen car.

The male driver of the Volkswagen, 52 year old Acklin GINGLES, from Detroit, Michigan, has been charged with Careless Driving, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.

The driver of the Volkswagen was transported to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

No injuries were reported by the two male occupants of the Cooper Mini.

HIGHWAY 9 AND AIRPORT ROAD MOTOR VEHICLE COLLISION

(CALEDON, ON) – On May 16, 2014 shortly after 10 pm, officers from the Caledon Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) investigated a motor vehicle collision on Airport Road at Highway 9. Preliminary investigation has revealed that a northbound Ford Escort was struck by an eastbound silver Volvo station-wagon. The driver of the Ford Escort was ejected from the motor vehicle and airlifted to a trauma centre.

The driver’s injuries are non-life-threatening.

The motor vehicle collision is still under investigation.

MOTOR VEHICLE COLLISION ON CHARLESTON SIDE ROAD

(CALEDON, ON) – On May 15, 2014 at approximately 11:40 am, officers from the Caledon Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were dispatched to a serious motor vehicle collision on Charleston Side Road at Heart Lake Road. Preliminary investigation has revealed that a southbound minivan entered Charleston Side Road colliding with a westbound tractor trailer. In an attempt to evade the motor vehicle collision, the truck veered to the left and rolled onto the passenger side, striking a hydro pole.

There were five occupants in the minivan and the driver was airlifted to a trauma centre. On May 17th, the driver succumbed to his injuries. The passengers, including 2 toddlers, were transported to area hospitals with minor injuries. The driver of the transport was uninjured but transported to hospital for precautionary measures.

The motor vehicle collision is still under investigation.

ESCAPEE WANTED – Photo Released – Federal Inmate Cale David PRESNAIL

(KINGSTON, ON) – On May 19, 2014 Federal Inmate Cale David PRESNAIL, 40, was last seen around 5:00pm at the Collins Bay Minimum Institution (formally known as Frontenac Institution). He has not been located.

PRESNAIL is described as:

Caucasion male,

6’0”

178lbs

Hazel eyes

Shaved head with blond/grey goatee

Dragon Tattoo on his right calf

Dolphin tattoo on his upper right arm

Two swords tattoo on his upper left arm

Birth mark on his left forearm

He was sentenced to life imprisonment for Second Degree Murder in 1998.

TWO YOUTH CHARGED WITH DRUG POSSESSION

(WEST PARRY SOUND, ON) – The West Parry Sound Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) arrested three youth suspected to be in possession of controlled substances as a result of an investigation that took place on Railway Avenue in Parry Sound on May 18, 2014. At approximately 6:52 p.m., police located the three males walking on Champagne Street. Upon further investigation, one male was found in possession of five grams of marijuana and 5.1 grams of Heroin while another three grams of Marijuana were located on a second male. The third male was released at the scene.

16 year old male of Parry Sound was charged with Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Heroin, Possession of a Schedule II Substance – Cannabis Marijuana and 4 counts of Failure to Comply with Disposition. The accused was held in custody to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice Parry Sound.

MISSING PERSONS IN ALGONQUIN PARK – UPDATE

(Algonquin Provincial Park, ON) The families of the missing persons in Algonquin Provincial Park have been notified that the Killaloe Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are continuing a search for two missing people at Opeongo Lake, Algonquin Provincial Park.

A 19 year old male from Mississauga and a 21 year old male from Georgetown have been identified as the missing parties.

The males were canoeing on the evening of May 15, 2014 when their canoes capsized. The Killaloe Detachment is being assisted by OPP resources including the Emergency Response Team, OPP Canine Unit, Marine Units, Aviation Unit, Underwater Search and Recovery Unit with assistance from the Ministry of Natural Resources.

Update: PARAGLIDER AIRLIFTED TO HOSPITAL

Correction to location of crash – The crash happened just West of Port Bruce in along the cliffs in the area of Dexter Line and Harding Smith Line, Malahide Township.

The pilot is currently listed in stable condition with non-life threatening injuries.

Police investigation has revealed that the pilot launched from the cliff in the area of Dexter Line and Harding Smith Line and had made several flights and was attempting to land at the time of the crash. It appears that wind gusts may have been a factor in the crash.

A 47 year old Aylmer, ON man was airlifted to hospital yesterday afternoon May 18, 2014 after the paraglider he was flying crashed into a cliff just east of Port Bruce along the shores of Lake Erie. The crash occured just after 2pm, just south of Dexter Line, when the experienced paraglider pilot lost control of the aircraft (parachute with seat) and stuck the side the cliff. Malahide Fire Services performed a steep angle rescue of the pilot who was then airlifted to hosptial in serious condition.

Elgin County OPP continued to investigate the incident. Transport Canada is not investigating.

Mischief – Sandy Hill Cemetery

Augusta Township

Sometime between May 9 – 11, 2014, the Sandy Hill Cemetery located at 8724 County Rd. 15 in Augusta Township was the victim of a mischief, causing severe damage. The damage was estimated at $4000.

As a result of the investigation, three (3) young persons, 2 female and 1 male, from Augusta Township were apprehended.

All were dealt with through the Youth Criminal Justice Act by way of the diversion program.

The OPP would like to thank everyone for their assistance in this incident.

DRINKING DRIVER INVOLVED IN MOTOR VEHICLE COLLISION

(COUNTY OF BRANT, ON) – The County of Brant Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), officers were called to a two vehicle collision at the intersection of Mount Pleasant Road and Conklin Road in the County of Brant.

At approximately 11:05 p.m. Saturday May 17th, 2014, officers were advised of the collision. Officers arrived at the collision a short time later, and while talking to one of the drivers of the vehicles, the officer observed all the usual signs of impairment by alcohol. Both drivers of the vehicles were taken to a local Hospital suffering from minor injuries.

Crystal MACHADO 33 years of age from the City of Georgetown is facing the following criminal charges

Impaired Driving
Drive over 80 milligrams of Blood Alcohol Content

The accused is scheduled to attend Provincial Court in Brantford on June 20th, 2014 to answer to the charges.

Stephen MOGAVERO – Impaired Driving

(South Glengarry) – On 18May14, at approximately 05:30am, SD&G OPP officers responded to a report of a possible impaired driver on County Road 2, South Glengarry Township.

Officers located the vehicle and driver at a business on County Road 2, South Glengarry Township.

The 47yr old male (Stephen MOGAVERO of Whitchurch-Stouffville, Central On) was found to be operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol.

He was arrested and faces charges of:

– Driving While Ability Impaired
– Fail or Refuse to Provide Sample

He is scheduled to appear 04Jun14 in Alexandria court.

TRAFFIC STOP NETS DRUGS

(North Glengarry) – On 17May14, at approximately 10:00pm, SD&G OPP officers had occasion to conduct a traffic stop on Highway 417, North Glengarry Township

The stop resulted in the seizure of approximately 16grams of suspected marihuana.

The 20yr old male driver (Zachary Russell MACPHERSON of Sarsfield, On) was arrested and faces a charge of:

– Poss. of a Schedule II substance – Cannabis Marihuana

He is scheduled to appear 09Jul14 in Alexandria court.

BREAK AND ENTER

(North Dundas) – On 19May14, at approximately 5:00pm, SD&G OPP officers responded to a report of two males attempting to gain entry to a building on Main St. Chesterville, On.

While enroute OPP officers observed the vehicle involved and a traffic stop was conducted, the investigation revealed that the occupants were involved in the break and enter.

A 25yr old male (Anthony Gordon RIGTER of North Grenville, On) as well as an 18yr old male (Daniel WILLIAMS of Kemptville, On) were arrested and face charges of:

– Break, Enter a place – with intent to commit indictable offence
– Possession Break in Instruments

Both men are scheduled to appear 08Ju14 in Morrisburg court.
