CALLER’S ASSISTANCE LEADS TO ARREST

(GRAND BEND, ON) A phone call to the Lambton Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) about a driving complaint, ended with the arrest of a male.

Lambton OPP responded to a business address on Ontario Street on May 18, 2014 around 2:00 p.m. and located the male and his vehicle in a parking lot. As the investigation continued, an amount of marihuana was located inside of the vehicle and the male was arrested.

Jason DUFFY, 37 years of age from Haldimand County, ON has a Sarnia court date of June 26, 2014 to answer to the charge of Possession of Marihuana under 30 grams.

ATTEMPTED ABDUCTION

(QUINTE WEST, ON) – Quinte West OPP is investigating the attempted abduction of a female on Stockdale Rd. The female set out running on Stockdale Rd at approximately 9:00pm on May 19th.

The female was approached by a male in a 4 door grey/silver vehicle and asked if she wanted a ride. When the female declined the male drove past the female stopped on the side of the road got out of his vehicle and tackled the female to the ground. The female struggled and managed to get herself free. The male suspect then got into his vehicle and left the scene.

The male is described as white, 6’ tall mid to late 20’s, Brown/Black Short Hair with more length on the top. He is also described as Medium/Athletic build and clean shaven. The male was wearing beige, khaki Bermuda style shorts, with a navy/black collared sweater. The male was also described as having a distinctive smell of body odor and he had a deep, mumbling, monotone voice.

Kenora OPP Seeking Summer Students

(Kenora, ON.) – Kenora Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police has received funding from the Ministry of Children and Youth Services to hire students for the Youth in Policing Initiative (YIPI). Successful applicants for the position will assist the Community Services Officers with the delivery of public safety programs within the community including general foot patrol duties. The students will also be seen as ambassadors for the OPP and the City of Kenora. Pay for the position will be $10.70 an hour based on a 40 hour week for a total of 8 weeks. Criteria on which the applicants will be chosen include:

Applicants must reside in the the Kenora area.
Be between the ages of 14 and 17 years of age.
Must be returning to school in September.
Cannot apply if applicant has participated in the program in the past .

Completed resumes need to be delivered to the OPP detachment on the Kenora bypass no later than 4:00 pm Tuesday June 3, with interviews taking place between 10 – 12th June. There will be an expected start date of Monday June 30 and concluding Friday August 22, 2014.

MOTORIST INVOLVED IN COLLISION RESULTS IN IMPAIRED CHARGE

(CALEDON, ON) – On May 16, 2014 shortly after 11 pm, officers from the Caledon Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were called to investigate a single motor vehicle collision at the intersection of Old Church Road and The Gore Road. The officers located a Subaru Impreza that had collided with a pole near the intersection.

Upon speaking with the driver, the officers immediately detected a strong odour of alcohol on his breath. The male was arrested and he was transported by ambulance to the hospital due to a back and neck injury. Once cleared from hospital, the driver was transported to Detachment to determine the blood alcohol level in his system.

In conclusion, Aaron GALLE, 20, of Caledon was arrested and charged with Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle and Operate Motor Vehicle Over 80.

The Administrative Drivers’ Licence Suspension (ADLS) program was initiated and his motor vehicle was impounded for seven days.

The accused is scheduled to make his first appearance at the Ontario Court of Justice in Orangeville on June 5, 2014.

PARKING LOT COLLISION LEADS TO ARREST

(GRAND BEND, ON) Lambton Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a minor two vehicle collision on May 16, 2014 just after 9:00 p.m. at a local business on Ontario Street.

During the investigation Lambton OPP arrested one of the drivers for impaired driving. Subsequent breath tests revealed that the female driver was over the legal limit.

Chelsi PHILLIPS, 21 years of age from Lakeshore ON, has a Sarnia court date of June 2, 2014 to answer to the charges of Impaired Driving and Driving Over the Legal Limit.

There were no injuries reported as a result of the incident.

DRIVER LITTERING ROADWAY ARRESTED

(GRAND BEND, ON) A complaint about a male sitting in his car and littering on Main Street ended with the arrest of the male. A Lambton OPP (Ontario Provincial Police) officer investigated the littering complaint on May 17, 2014 just after 9:00 a.m. and determined that the male who was sitting in his parked car, had been consuming alcohol.

The male was arrested after failing a road side screening test and then subsequent breath tests indicated that the male was over the legal limit.

Steven RASTIN, 20 years of age from Windsor, ON has a June 2, 2014 Sarnia court date to answer to the charge of Care or Control While Impaired.

IMPAIRED DRIVER ARRESTED

(GRAND BEND, ON) On May 19, 2014, at 2:30 a.m. a motor vehicle was traveling on Ontario Street South in Grand Bend when a Lambton Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer noticed that the vehicle crossed over the center line.

The Lambton OPP officer stopped the vehicle and it was then determined that the driver had been consuming alcohol. The male driver was arrested and subsequent breath tests showed that the driver was over the legal limit.

Thomas DAWSON, 30 years of age, from Strathroy-Caradoc Township, ON has a Sarnia court date of July 7, 2014 to answer to the charges of Impaired Driving and Driving Over the Legal Limit.

EXPIRED VALIDATION TAG LEADS TO ARREST

(ST. CLAIR TOWNSHIP, ON) A Lambton Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer noticed an expired validation tag on a vehicle traveling on LaSalle Line, May 18, 2014 just after 2:00 a.m.

The OPP officer stopped the car to investigate the offence and during that investigation determined that the driver had been consuming alcohol.

The driver was arrested and the subsequent breath tests indicated that the male driver was over the legal limit.

Jacob ROGERS, 20 years of age from Sarnia, ON has a Sarnia court date of June 9, 2014 to answer to the charge of Driving Over the Legal Limit.

OPP INVESTIGATE THEFT FROM VEHICLES

(NORFOLK COUNTY, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Norfolk County Detachment is reminding the public to protect their property and valuables against would be thieves after a vehicle entry was reported at a Thomson Road, Simcoe, Norfolk County, Ontario address.

On Sunday, May 18, 2014, in the early morning hours, unknown suspects entered two locked motor vehicles that were parked on the roadway. Once inside, unknowns proceeded to remove sunglasses, golf clubs and a small quantity of Canadian currency.

The theft is valued at approximately $2,000 dollars.

Here are some tips to prevent you from becoming a victim:

Always secure your vehicle doors when parking your vehicle, even if you are only going to be a few minutes.
Remove valuables from your vehicle. If you can’t, then keep them from plain view.
Park in well lighted areas with high traffic.
Clean out your garage and park your vehicle in it – locking your vehicle and the garage door.

Remember, if you see something, say something. If you see suspicious persons or behaviour approaching your vehicle or roaming the area, call the Norfolk County OPP at 1-888-310-1122.

R.I.D.E PROGRAM RESULTS IN ARREST

(NORFOLK COUNTY, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Norfolk County Detachment has charged a 25 year old male after checking a vehicle at a Turkey Point Road, Turkey Point, Norfolk County, Ontario address.

On Sunday, May 18, 2014 at approximately 11:16 a.m., police were conducting a R.I.D.E program (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) in the area of Turkey Point Road and Cedar Drive, when the vehicle was stopped and checked for driver sobriety.

Charged with Driving over the legal limit is 25 year old Sante Michael DECAROLIS of Norfolk County, Ontario

He is to appear in Provincial Court, Simcoe at a later date to answer to the charge.

OPP CHARGE DRIVER WITH STUNT DRIVING

(NORFOLK COUNTY, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Norfolk County Detachment have charged a 23 year old male with stunt driving after police stopped a motor vehicle at a Fourteenth Street West, Windham, Norfolk County, Ontario address.

On Friday, May 16, 2014 at approximately 1:07 p.m., police observed a motor vehicle that appeared to be travelling at a high rate of speed westbound on Fourteenth Street West.

The motor vehicle ran through radar and recorded a reading of 140km/h in a posted 70 km/h zone.

Police have charged 23 year old Corey Steven CAUSYN of Norfolk County, Ontario with Stunt Driving contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.

“There will be zero tolerance for motorists driving aggressively, impaired by drugs or alcohol, distracted drivers or those who fail to buckle up. Driving safety is everyone’s responsibility and it starts before the vehicle is put into drive” comments Constable Ed Sanchuk, Norfolk County OPP.

OPP are reminding all motorists that the minimum fine for Stunt Driving, if convicted is $2,000 and an automatic drivers licence suspension for 7 days.

He is to appear in Provincial Court, Simcoe at a later date to answer to the charge.

HOMEOWNER CONFRONTS MALE IN RESIDENCE

(NORFOLK COUNTY, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Norfolk County Detachment was contacted by a concerned homeowner at a Cedar Drive, Turkey Point, Norfolk County, ON address.

On Monday, May 19, 2014, at approximately 5:18 a.m., police were contacted after an unknown male entered the residence through an unlocked garage door. Once inside the unknown male entered the bedroom where the residents were sleeping.

The occupants awoke at which time the unknown male began a verbal altercation which then turned into a physical confrontation. The male fled from the residence after the owners attempted to restrain him and was last seen running eastbound on Cedar Drive.

The male is being described as white, approximately 25 years of age, 5’8, 180lbs, dark short hair and was wearing a grey hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans.

Police are reminding all home owners to ensure that all doors and windows are secured in order to prevent anyone from gaining access to your residence.

OPP INVESTIGATING MISCHIEF AT WALSH UNITED CEMETERY

(NORFOLK COUNTY, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Norfolk County Detachment responded to an incident at a St Johns Road West, Charlotteville, Norfolk County, Ontario address.

On Saturday, May 17, 2014 in the early morning hours, unknown(s) attended the Walsh United Cemetery and proceeded to dig a 4 foot by 3 foot hole on cemetery grounds.

OPP are seeking the public’s assistance with this investigation and anyone with information is being asked to contact the Norfolk County OPP at 1-888-310-1122.

ALERT OFFICER PREVENTS FIRE

(NORFOLK COUNTY, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Norfolk County Detachment and Norfolk County Fire Services were called to a Queenseway West, Simcoe, Norfolk County, Ontario address.

On Saturday, May 17, 2014 at approximately 4:50 p.m., an alert officer on patrol observed a fully loaded tanker truck parked in the Target Gas Bar parking lot. The officer observed that the truck had a brake fire located at the rear of the tanker which was filled with approximately 54000 litres of fuel.

The officer attempted to extinguish the brake fire using several fire extinguishers in order to prevent it from spreading.

Members of the Norfolk County Fire Department arrived on scene and the brake fire was brought under control by the attending fire fighters. No injuries were reported and the fire is not being treated as suspicious.

NORFOLK COUNTY VICTORIA DAY LONG WEEKEND EXTREMELY BUSY FOR NORFOLK OPP

(NORFOLK COUNTY, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Norfolk County Detachment were kept busy over the course of the Victoria Long Weekend. The OPP answered 264 calls for service from Friday, May 17, 2014 to Monday, May 20, 2014.

Norfolk County OPP charged 5 people with impaired driving and driving over the legal limit offences. There were an additional 5 charges for failure to wear seatbelt, several charges for Liquor Licence Act offences and over 104 charges for speeding under the Highway Traffic Act. Officers were also kept busy with a variety of calls for service which included vehicle collisions, property related offences, animal complaints, traffic complaints and assaults.

The OPP patrolled various areas of Norfolk County on All Terrain Vehicles (ATV’S) and issued several warnings to riders of off road motor vehicles. This provided police an opportunity to educate the public about safety, proper use and the documents that need to be carried. While on ATV patrol, officers also issues several charges for Liquor Licence Act offences in the Turkey Point and Long Point area.

“Even though these are excellent results drivers still need constant reminding not to drink and drive. There is no safe level of alcohol consumption when getting behind the wheel of a vehicle,” says Inspector Zvonko Horvat, Detachment Commander of the Norfolk County OPP.

The Norfolk County OPP want to remind motorists that regular R.I.D.E. programs will be continuing throughout the year and to always wear your seatbelt and to stay off the cell phones while operating your vehicle.
