OVERDUE FISHERMEN LOCATED

(SOUTH PORCUPINE, ON) – Members of the South Porcupine Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Detachment, OPP Helicopter and members of the Connaught Volunteer Fire Department have concluded their comprehensive land and water search in the Frederickhouse Lake area for two overdue fishermen from Iroquois Falls.

On Monday, May 19, 2014, the OPP were notified that the two men had ventured out on a fishing excursion on a handmade raft on Frederickhouse Lake and had failed to return.

The Iroquois Falls men, aged 23 and 25 respectively, spent an unplanned night in the bush but have returned home.

This event has a happy outcome but should serve as a cautionary tale for early season watercraft operators.

The Ontario Provincial Police would like to remind all outdoor and fishing enthusiasts to take planning seriously.

BREAK AND ENTER ON BOULTER ROAD

(Bancroft, Ontario) – On Saturday the 17th of May 2014, the Bancroft detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received the report of break and enter on Boulter Road in Carlow-Mayo Township. Investigation revealed that a garage was forcibly entered sometime over the past three months. Property reported stolen included a generator, BBQ, outboard motor and lawnmower.

Bill V. PAPANAGIOTIS – Drunk Driving

(Hawkesbury, ON) – On Friday May 16th, 2014, shortly before 1 am, Hawkesbury OPP Constable Jean-François Maceus intercepted a black 2013 Nissan Altima at the Du Chenail Boulevard and John Street intersection.

The traffic stop gave the officers reason to believe that the driver had consumed alcohol and that his blood alcohol concentration was above the permitted limit. The driver was consequently arrested for driving while having blood alcohol content above 80 mgs per 100ml of blood.

Consequently, the driver, Bill V. PAPANAGIOTIS (38 yrs) of Hawkesbury, Ontario, was charged under the Criminal Code of Canada with section 253(1)(b) Driving with More than 80 mgs of Alcohol in Blood.

He was also charged under the Ontario Liquor Licence Act with section 32(1) Driving motor vehicle with open container of liquor.

His vehicle was seized for 7 days and driver’s licence immediately suspended for 90 days.

He was later released and is scheduled to appear at the L’Orignal Court on June 4th in L’Orignal.

Eric Daniel Joseph LEPAGE – Drunk Driving

(Alfred-Plantagenet, ON) – On Saturday May 17th, 2014, shortly before 7:30 am, police were called to the scene of a collision on Montée-Charette Road in Alfred-Plantagenet.

OPP Constables Jason Cholette and Mario Gratton responded to the incident.
Upon arrival, the driver was not at the scene of the collision. The driver was later found arriving at his residence being driven by a friend.

The officers interrogated the driver which gave officers reason to believe that he had consumed alcohol and that his blood alcohol concentration was above the permitted limit.

The driver was consequently arrested for driving while having blood alcohol content above 80 mgs per 100ml of blood.

Consequently, the driver Eric Daniel Joseph LEPAGE (31 yrs) of Alfred, Ontario, was charged under the Criminal Code of Canada with the following offences:

– section 253(1)(b) Driving with More than 80 mgs of Alcohol in Blood.
– Section 249(1)(a) Dangerous Operation of Motor Vehicle

His vehicle was seized for 7 days and driver’s licence immediately suspended for 90 days.

He was later released and is scheduled to appear at the L’Orignal Court on June 11th in L’Orignal.

Duplex residences broken into

(Hawkesbury, ON) Constable Jean-François Maceus of the Hawkesbury OPP is investigating a break and enter incident that occurred in the evening of May 17th at Nelson Street East residence in Hawkesbury.

The investigation revealed that someone gained access the residence via a basement window and stole a laptop computer and some jewelry.

The OPP Identification Unit assisted with the investigation as blood was found at the scene of the crime.

The matter is under investigation by Constable Jean-François Maceus.

Community Hall at the Vankleek Hill fair grounds broken into

(Champlain, ON) Constable Marc-André Desjardins of the Hawkesbury OPP is investigating a break and enter incident that was reported on May 18th at the Community Hall at the Vankleek Hill fair grounds in Champlain.

The investigation revealed that the incident occurred between Thursday May 15th at 9 pm and Sunday May 18th at 10 pm.

Someone gained entry via a window and caused damage to the hall such as emptying a fire extinguisher, a bottle of soap was spread in the kitchen area and some damages were done to the men’s washroom.

The matter is still under investigation by Constable Marc-André Desjardins.

STOLEN MOTOR VEHICLE RECOVERED

(ADJALA-TOSORONTIO)- On May 18, 2014 Nottawasaga Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were called to a suspicious vehicle stopping on the Mono-Adjala Townline at 2:28pm.

A Silver Mercedes stopped on the side of the road, the driver claimed that he ran out of gas and left the area, returning two hours later without gas.

Police arrived on scene to investigate; the 1989 Mercedes was in fact a stolen vehicle from Collingwood, stolen earlier in the day.

Charged with one count of Possession of Stolen Property over $5000 is 40 year old Thomas KITCHENER, he was held for a bail hearing on May 19, 2014.

BREAK AND ENTER ON AIRPORT ROAD

(CALEDON, ON)- On May 16, 2014, officers from the Caledon Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) attended an Airport Road residence to investigate a break and enter. Sometime between May 14th and May 16th, suspect(s) entered the property and smashed a rear window allowing access to the residence. The suspect(s) stole a white bicycle and various power tools.

Police are reminding residents to contact the OPP Communications Centre immediately at 1-888-310-1122 to report any suspicious activity or suspicious vehicles in the area. Information such as suspect physical descriptions, suspect vehicles and direction of travel are useful tools for investigators.

OPP INVESTIGATE FATAL COLLISION

(GOGAMA, ON) – On Monday, May 19, 2014 shortly before 1 pm, the Gogama Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a single motor vehicle collision on Highway 144 in Chester Township, south of Gogama.

As a result of the collision, the driver, Roland LEFEBVRE, 75, of Iroquois Falls, Ontario, succumbed to his injuries. The female passenger was transported to the hospital for serious but non-life threatening injuries.

The OPP Technical Traffic Collision Investigation (TTCI) unit is continuing its investigation.

SINGLE VEHICLE COLLISION ON HIGHWAY 127

(Bancroft, Ontario) – On Saturday May 17th 2014, at approximately 7:23 p.m. the Bancroft detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to the report of a motor vehicle collision on Highway 127 in the Municipality of Hastings Highlands. Investigation revealed that a Ford van entered the east ditch and rolled.

A 33 year old male of Lake St. Peter, was transported by ambulance to hospital in minor injuries.

A 56 year old male of the Municipality of Hastings Highlands, was transported from the scene by air ambulance to hospital with major injuries.

Investigation into the collision is ongoing with the assistance of an OPP Technical Traffic Collision Investigator.

STUNT DRIVER CHARGED

(CALEDON, ON) – On May 19, 2014 at 7:09 am, an officer from the Caledon Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was conducting speed enforcement in the Village of Caledon. The officer observed the driver of a white Nissan Altima travelling northbound at a high rate of speed and determined the speed at 137 km/hr. in a 50 km/hr. zone.

As a result, Darren I. ABASS, 33, of Brampton was charged with Race a Motor Vehicle.

The vehicle was impounded for seven days as a result of the stunt driving charge.

The driver is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Caledon on June 23, 2014.

THEFT OF BICYCLES FROM LOCAL SCHOOL

(COLLINGWOOD, ONTARIO) Officers from the Collingwood and The Blue Mountains detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are asking for the public’s help in solving a theft which took place over the course of the weekend.

The theft took place sometime from Friday the 16th of May 2014 to Tuesday the 20th of May 2014 where culprit(s) entered a storage shed on the property of St-Mary’s School on Saunders Street in Collingwood. Once inside the culprit(s) stole 5 tricycles that were for the use of kindergarten students at the school. One of the tricycles was recovered nearby. The tricycles are described as red in color with yellow wheels, black seat with a make of ‘We Play’.

BREAK AND ENTER IN LAKESIDE

(KENORA, ON) Members of the Kenora Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are investigating a break and enter that occurred on May 19, 2014.

On Monday May 19, 2014 police received a report that an unknown suspect had entered a residence in the Lakeside area of Kenora around 4:30 am. One of the occupants woke up and saw the suspect in the residence. The suspect fled the scene upon waking the occupant.

The suspect is described as a male youth, First Nations, approximately 6 feet tall, with a thin build wearing a grey hoodie and blue jeans. Nothing was taken from the residence.

The investigation is continuing.

TRAFFIC STOP LEADS TO CHARGES

(THE BLUE MOUNTAINS, ONTARIO) Officers from the Collingwood and The Blue Mountains detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) charged a male motorist with several offences as a result of a vehicle stop early Friday morning.

On the 17th of May 2014 shortly before 3:00am, officers stopped a vehicle for speeding on Grey Road 19 near Martin Grove. Interactions with the driver found that he was under the influence of alcohol and was subjected to a roadside breath test which he failed. As such he was arrested and transported to Collingwood detachment for processing.

Charged is 48 year-old Michael ELLINGER of The Blue Mountains. He is facing a criminal charge of driving with more than 80mg of alcohol in blood as well as highway traffic act charges of speeding over 50 km/h over the posted speed limit, race a motor vehicle, fail to use lower beam-oncoming, fail to notify change of address-license and a liquor license act charge of driving a motor vehicle with an open container of liquor.

He is to appear in Owen Sound court on the 5th of June 2014.
