Break and Enter in Chatham

The Chatham-Kent police are looking for information regarding a break and enter in Chatham.

Sometime between May 22nd at 11:30 p.m. and May 23rd at 7:00 a.m. unknown suspect(s) entered a residence on Parkwood Drive. Once inside, the suspect(s) stole personal identification and a laptop.

Break and Enter in Chatham

The Chatham-Kent police are looking for information regarding a break and enter in Chatham.

Sometime over night on Thursday evening, unknown suspect(s) entered an unlocked shed located at a residence along Marion Avenue in Chatham. Stolen from this location was a 2006 Sierra Honda dirt bike red in colour along with a 250 CC Quad ATV black and green in colour.

Occurrence Type: Breach Probation

Barrie Police Service attended a south-end residence while an evicted tenant removed his belongings. While police were with the 21 year old male, they learned he was on probation and he was not to use the internet. The male had a computer plugged in and had told police he had recently used the internet. The man was arrested and held for bail for the offence of Breaching his Probation Order in relation to children. Police seized his computer, video game system and smart phone.

Impaired Driving, Over 80 Mgs

Date: Sunday, May 24, 2015 – 5:00pm
On Saturday May 24, 2014 at approximately 5 pm the Barrie Police Service received information from a Mary St LCBO employee that an intoxicated patron that was refused service had left the store and drove off the parking lot in a black GMC Envoy.

Officers were provided a description of the driver, licence plate and last known direction of travel of the vehicle.

A short time later officers stopped the vehicle, the officer formed the opinion that the males ability to operate the motor vehicle was impaired by the amount of alcohol that the driver had consumed.

The driver was arrested for impaired driving and was transported to the station where he provided breath samples that were over three times the legal limit.

As a result the 47 year old Barrie resident will be released with a future court date where he will face Impaired Driving and Over 80 Mgs charges.

Occurrence Type: Theft Under, Possession Under

Date: Saturday, May 24, 2014 – 5:00pm
On Saturday May 24, 2014 at approximately 5 pm the Barrie Police Service received information from the loss prevention staff from SEARS that a male and female had attended the store and stolen a large screen television and were placing it inside a vehicle.

Officers were provided a description of the suspects and the licence plate of the vehicle involved.

Officers located the vehicle at a Cundles Rd East address, the police were provided information that the suspects had just entered the residence and were carrying a large cardboard box.

The suspects refused to answer the door for the police, officers took up surveillance on the residence while a warrant was obtained.

A short time later a 32 year old male and a 27 year old female were arrested and charged with Theft Under and Possession Under.

The stolen television was located inside the residence.

Both parties were released with a future court date and a number of conditions to abide by.

Cause Disturbance By Swearing

Date: Sunday, May 25, 2014 – 1:30am
On Sunday May 25, 2014 at approximately 130 am the Barrie Police Service were called to the area of Clapperton and Collier St in regards to a male party that was yelling and screaming.

Officers located an intoxicated male that was ranting and raving, the male was taken home and turned over to his mother who agreed to care for the male.

Unfortunately a short time later the male re-attended the downtown core and once again began to scream at people for an unknown reason causing a disturbance.

Officers re-attended and placed the male in custody. The 19 year old was transported to the station where he was held till sober, in the morning the male was released with a future court date and conditions not to consume alcohol.

Over 80 Mgs, Obstruct Police, FTC Recognizance, FTC Probation

Date: Sunday, May 25, 2014 (All day)
On Sunday May 25, 2014 at approximately 12 am a Barrie Police Service officer on routine patrol in the downtown core stopped a vehicle on Simcoe St.

The officer suspected the male driver to have consumed some alcohol and had the driver provide a breath sample in an approved screening device. The driver registered a warn on the approved screening device and was arrested for Over 80 Mgs.

At the time of the arrest the driver identified himself falsely, officers were eventually able to properly identify the male at which time it was learned that the male is currently before the courts on theft under charges and bound by conditions to be with his surety at all times a condition that the male was found in breach of.

The male was also found to be on probation with conditions not to consume alcohol, a condition that the male was found in breach of.

As a result the 29 year old male will face Over 80 Mgs, Obstruct Police, Fail to Comply Recognizance and Fail to Comply Probation charges.

The accused male was held for a bail hearing.

Double Drunk Driving

Date: Saturday, May 24, 2014 – 7:00pm
On Friday May 23, 2014 at approximately 7 pm the Barrie Police Service received a number of calls from citizens in regards to a possible impaired driver.

The first call came from citizens reporting that the driver of a silver Dodge Charger had been driven off the roadway and onto a front lawn of a Delaney Crescent residence.

A very short time later calls came in advising that the driver of the same silver Dodge Charger had struck a parked car in a Mapleview Drive East parking lot. A witness spoke to the driver and felt the driver was impaired.

The driver then struck a second parked car and then fled the parking lot, citizens were able to provide the police a detailed description of the driver and the last known direction of travel of the vehicle.

Officers located and stopped the vehicle a short distance away, the driver was quickly placed under arrest for impaired driving.

The driver was transported to the station where he provided breath samples more than twice the legal limit.

The 23 year old Barrie resident was released with a future court date where he will face Impaired Driving and Over 80 mgs charges.

Ottawa Man Charged For Thefts From Vehicle

(Ottawa) — On May 23, 2014, a 51 year-old Ottawa man, John McGee, was arrested by the Central District Neigborhood Officers for Thefts From Vehicle in the vicinity of Preston / Somerset / Cambridge / Gladstone. It is alleged that he used a tool to break car windows and take their contents.

John McGee appeared in (show cause) court on May 24, 2014. He was remanded into custody and will appear by way of video conference on May 27, at 1:30 p.m., Courtroom #5.

The subsequent investigation yielded more charges linked to other incidents.

The charges linked to incidents between May 14 and May 23, 2014 are:

Mischief, 4 counts

Possession of Property, 1 count

Attempted Theft, 1 count

Breach of Undertaking, 3 counts

Failure to Comply with Probation Order, 3 counts

Although video and citizens calling police help solve these investigations, prevention is a key element to help prevent this type of crime. Especially with the race week-end, every car owner and user is asked not to leave any valuables in their vehicles – cars are not a safe for wallets, GPS devices, laptops, cell phones, coins, purses or bags.

Shooting Incident on Elgin Street

(Ottawa) On the 24th day of May 2014 at approximately 2:49 AM the Ottawa Police Service responded to a shooting that occurred outside a bar in the 300 block of Elgin Street. Once on scene, police located numerous shell casings.

No injuries were reported. Investigation continues by members of the Guns and Gangs Section.

Seeking public’s help in shooting incident on 417 at approximately 10:30 PM

(Ottawa) On Friday, May 23, 2014 at approximately 10:30 PM, the Ottawa Police and the Ontario Provincial Police responded to a reported shooting on the eastbound Queensway near the Rochester exit. A vehicle travelling with 5 occupants was struck by 2 bullets. No persons were injured as a result of the incident.

Investigation continues by members of the Guns and Gangs Section.

ATV COLLISION CLAIMS ONE LIFE

(Kapuskasing, ON) – On Saturday May 24, 2014 just after 7pm, officers from the Kapuskasing Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police responded to a single motor vehicle collision involving a 2002 Polaris ATV. The collision occurred on Pearce Road, approximately 40 km North West of Hwy 11 in Pearce Twp., near Zadi Lake.

The 55 year old male driver Gerald LATOUR from Smooth Rock Falls was discovered by a passing motorist. Mr. LATOUR had ventured on his own to check his minnow traps, not far from where he had been camping with family.

LATOUR was pronounced dead at the scene and a post mortem examination has been scheduled.

An OPP Technical Traffic Collision Investigator (TTCI) is assisting with the investigation.

SEVERAL DOMESTIC DISPUTES RESULTS IN CHARGES

Later on the same morning of May 24, officers responded to a report of a disturbance at a Sioux Lookout residence. Police learned that a male subject assaulted his female partner. As a result, a 26 year old Sioux Lookout man was charged with assault. The accused was held in custody for bail court.

A little later on that same morning, officers responded to a report of a break in at a Queen Street home. The investigation revealed a female subject had broken a window to gain entry into her ex-boyfriends home. The female was arrested for mischief to property, but then proceeded to resist arrest. A 19 year old Sioux Lookout resident was charged with both offences, and held in custody for bail court.

During the evening of Saturday May 24, officers responded to a complaint of someone breaking windows at a Robert Street residence. Police investigated the complaint and learned that the male accused had broken his ex-girlfriends window, then assaulted her. The 27 year old Sioux Lookout resident was located the following day and charged with mischief to property, assault, and breach of probation. The accused was held in custody for bail court.

In the early morning hours of May 25, 2014, officers responded to an assault complaint at a Princess Street residence. The subsequent investigation revealed that a 21 year old Sioux Lookout resident had assaulted his girlfriend inside the home. The accused was charged accordingly, and held in custody for bail court.

OPP RESPOND TO GPS SATELLITE EMERGENCY LOCATOR SIGNAL

(FORT FRANCES, ON) – On May 23, 2014, shortly after 8:30 am, officers of the Rainy River District Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were alerted to a distress call through a GPS Satellite Locator Rescue Coordinator Centre. Officers verified through the GPS coordinates that the owner of the locator, a Minnesota male, was calling for emergency assistance from his remote/lake only access cabin located in the north west arm of Rainy Lake, ON.

Officers attended the remote area by police vessel and located the male. The male had injured his leg and was unable to return to his vehicle without assistance. He did not have a cell phone or other neighbours in the area to assist him. Police provided the assistance and the male was able to return home. His injury did not require urgent emergency medical attention from police or ambulance personnel.

FATAL MOTOR VEHICLE COLLISION ON HIGHWAY 17 NEAR EAGLE RIVER

(DRYDEN, ON) – On May 25, 2014 shortly before 7:00 am, officers of the Dryden Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a serious motor vehicle collision involving two vehicles on Highway 17 near Eagle River, west of Dryden, ON.

The collision occurred when a westbound Ford automobile collided with an eastbound tractor trailer flat deck unit. Both the male driver and male passenger of the Ford automobile died as a result of the collision. Names are not being released at this time pending notification of next of kin. A post mortem has been scheduled to take place at the Lake of the Woods District hospital on Monday May 26, 2014. The driver and passenger of the tractor trailer unit were not injured.

Agencies on scene assisting the local detachment members included Dryden ambulance and fire emergency personnel, OPP North West Region Highway Safety Division (HSD), Ministry of Transportation (MTO), Transfield Services (Ontario) Ltd., and the Ministry of the Environment (MOE).

The highway was closed to allow the OPP Technical Traffic Investigators from Thunder Bay and Kenora to conduct their investigation into the cause of the collision. The highway opened to one lane after noon today and then completely reopened just after 6:00pm.

The collision remains under investigation. There are no charges laid. Further information will be released as it becomes available.
