Three Day Suspension Served On Driver

(BLUEWATER, ON) – Just before 9:00 p.m. on May 24, 2014 the driver of a Toyota Tundra pickup entered a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (R.I.D.E) checkpoint located at the intersection of Mill Road and Parr Line. Upon speaking with the male driver the Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer detected an odour of alcohol on the driver’s breath.

A roadside test was completed and the driver registered a fail. The driver was arrested for Drive Motor Vehicle with Over 80 Milligrams of Alcohol and was transported to the Huron OPP Detachment for breath tests. He later provided two samples of his breath and his blood alcohol concentration (B.A.C) now registered in the warn range level.

The 55 year old male driver from Bluewater was served with a three day driver’s licence suspension and released from custody.

Joseph CLUETT – Break and Enter, Breach, etc

(MUNICIPALITY OF WEST PERTH, ON) On Saturday May 24, 2014, shortly before 8 a.m., Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers were called to break-in to a shed at a rural residence south east of Mitchell.

Investigation revealed that sometime during the early hours on Saturday morning, May 24, 2014, the shed was entered. From inside the shed a large number of hand and power tools, as well as gas powered equipment and small sundry items were removed. All this property appeared to have been loaded onto the property owner’s Yamaha ATV that was parked in the shed. The ATV was subsequently driven away from the property by the culprit.

Shortly before 9 a.m., a Municipality of West Perth resident observed a male coming out of a field along Road 168 on his bicycle. The male had a power tool case in his hands and was carrying a back-pack. The resident contacted police and reported observing a suspicious person. Around 9 a.m. police located this male on his bicycle along Huron Road and determined that the item he was carrying matched property stolen from the shed earlier in the morning. The male was arrested and the back pack was found to contain break in instruments and other stolen items from the shed. Officers also located the stolen ATV a short time later.

As a result of this investigation, Joseph CLUETT (18) of the Municipality of West Perth has been charged with the following Criminal Code of Canada offences.

– Break, enter a place – commit indictable offence

– Fail to comply with probation order.

– Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000

– Possession of break in instruments

He remains in custody and is to appear for a bail hearing on Wednesday May 28, 2014, at the Ontario Court of Justice in Stratford.

“I am very impressed by the residents of the Municipality of West Perth who are immediately calling us to report suspicious activity. This is the second break-in we were able to solve with the assistance of observant residents. Last week Monday we arrested two males who broke into a Goderich-Exeter Railway storage building in Mitchell, and Saturday we were able to arrest this individual. In both cases we were also able to recovered the stolen property”- Staff Sergeant Joel Skelding, Perth County OPP.

HIGHWAY 17 FROM WAWA TO AGAWA BAY WILL BE CLOSED – Emergency Culvert Replacement

(WAWA, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Superior East Wawa Detachment advises that as of 12:00 pm today, May 27, 2014 Highway 17 from Wawa south to Agawa Bay will be closed for 36 hours. The closure is due to an emergency culvert replacement at Fenton-Treeby Lake in Lake Superior Provincial Park.
The O.P.P. will distribute details and updates of the road advisory as information becomes available.

MOTOR VEHICLE COLLISION INVOLVING MOTORCYCLE

(ADJALA-TOSORONTIO)- On May 26, 2014 at 5:00 pm, the Nottawasaga Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of a two vehicle motor vehicle collision on Highway 89 at County Road 13 in Adjala-Tosorontio Township.

Police arrived on scene to find a 2007 Jeep Liberty and 2004 Kawasaki V8B involved in a T-type collision at that location.

The 53 year old female driver of the Kawasaki was airlifted by Ornge Air Ambulance Services to a Toronto area hospital with serious injuries. The 52 year old female driver of the Jeep was taken by Simcoe County Paramedic Services to a local hospital for minor injuries.

Nottawasaga OPP brought the Technical Traffic Collision Investigators (TTCI) in to assist with the investigation which is still ongoing, further updates will be provided as they become available.

With the warm weather, be aware there will be more motorcyclists on the roadway, drive safe, be aware and share the road!

LOOKOUT PARK ROAD BREAK AND ENTER

(Bancroft, Ontario) – On Monday the 26th of May 2014, the Bancroft detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received the report of a break and enter on Lookout Park Road in the Municipality of Hastings Highlands. Investigation revealed that a residence had been forcibly entered and property reported stolen included solar lights and a computer monitor.

THEFT OF BOAT MOTOR

(Bancroft, Ontario) – On Monday the 27th of May 2014, the Bancroft detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to the report of a theft from a residence on Otter Lake Road in Faraday Township. Investigation revealed that sometime overnight on Friday the 23rd of May a Mercury outboard motor was stolen from the property.

ATV THEFT FROM CLEAR LAKE ROAD

(Bancroft, Ontario) – On Monday the 26th of May 2014, the Bancroft detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received the report of a vehicle theft from a residence on Clear Lake Road in the Town of Bancroft. Investigation revealed that sometime since Wednesday the 21st of May, a grey Polaris 500 ATV was stolen from the property.

Brandon ANDERSON – Drunk Driving

(THE BLUE MOUNTAINS, ONTARIO) Officers from the Collingwood and The Blue Mountains detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) charged a male motorist with a drinking and driving offence as a result of a RIDE check.

On the 24th of May 2014 shortly before 9:00pm officers were conducting a RIDE check on Alfred Street and Elma Street in The Blue Mountains where one motorist was found to be under the influence of alcohol. He was subjected to a roadside breath test which resulted in a ‘fail’ reading. As such he was arrested and transported to Collingwood detachment for processing.

Charged is 22 year-old Brandon ANDERSON of Grey Highlands, he is facing a charge of driving with more than 80 mgs of alcohol in blood and is to appear in Owen Sound court on the 5th of June 2014.

LAW ENFORCEMENT TORCH RUN FOR SPECIAL OLYMPICS

(CHATSWORTH, ON) – Grey County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) invite the public to come out to show their support for all the runners participating in this year’s Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics on Thursday, May 29th.

Officers from various OPP detachments and area police services, together with Special Olympics athletes, with be participating in this year’s event throughout the area.

Locally, in Grey County OPP jurisdiction, runners will depart from the Meaford OPP Detachment at 2:30 p.m. and run along Sykes St. to Boucher Street in Meaford, in the Municipality of Meaford.

ROAD RAGE LEADS TO ARREST

(NOTTAWASAGA)- On May 26th, 2014 at 7:12 pm, Nottawasaga Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received several traffic complaints regarding two vehicles involved in a road rage incident westbound on Highway 89 through Essa Township

The Nottawasaga OPP located the involved vehicles on Highway 89. The vehicles were a 2005 green coloured Ford ZX4 and a 2003 white Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck.

As a result of police investigation, the driver of the green coloured Ford vehicle was charged with the following offences:

Assault with a Weapon, Criminal Code of Canada
Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Criminal Code of Canada
Uttering Threats- Cause Death of Bodily Harm, Criminal Code of Canada.
Possession of Schedule 2 substance for the Purpose of Trafficking, Controlled Drug and Substances Act.

Arrested and charged is 23 year old Michael CANAVAN, of Elliot Lake, ON. He was held for a bail hearing.

LAMBTON OPP ON SCENE OF COLLISION

(PETROLIA, ON) Lambton Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded on May 27, 2014 just after 9:00 a.m. to a call about collision involving a motor vehicle and a female pedestrian on Petrolia Line between Queen and King streets.

Lambton OPP and Lambton Emergency Medical Services are still on scene. There is no further information at this time however drivers are advised to avoid the area.

CONVERSATION CROSSED LINE TO CRIMINAL HARASSMENT

(GRAND BEND, ON) Lambton Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) arrested an adult male on May 26, 2014 after an investigation that alleges the male began a casual conversation that escalated to inappropriate content, with a teenage female who had been sitting alone at a local business.

The teenage female was able to call for assistance when the adult male got up to use a washroom.

Frederick DITCHFIELD, 73 years of age from Woodstock, ON has a Sarnia court date of July 7, 2014 to answer to the charge under the Criminal Code of Canada for Criminal Harassment-Repeatedly Communicate.

The matter is now before the courts and there is no further information.

OPP NEEDS PUBLIC’S ASSISTANCE

(South Stormont) – On 26May14, SD&G OPP officers responded to a report of damage to a stone fence at the junction of Highway 138 and County Road 18, South Stormont Township.

The investigation revealed that sometime between the evening hours of 22nd May and the early hours of 23rd May an unknown vehicle struck the stone wall at the St. Andrews Church cemetery. The damage to repair the wall is estimated at $6000.00.

Traffic Stop Nets Drugs

(South Stormont) – On 26May14, at approximately 2:30pm, an OPP HSD ( Highway Safety Division) member had occasion to conduct a traffic stop on Highway 401, South Stormont Township.

The stop resulted in the seizure of approximately 19grams of suspected marihuana. The 20yr old male driver (Aaron David LEVITIN Toronto, On) was arrested and faces a charge of:

– Poss. of a Schedule II substance – Cannabis Marihuana

He is scheduled to appear 08Jul14 in Cornwall court.

The approximate street value of the seized drugs is $190.00.

Missing person located

(HARCOURT, ON) On May 25, 2014 at about 9:30pm Haliburton Highland Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was made aware that a male had gone missing from his residence near the Harcourt area since about 12:30pm.

Terry COPE has been located in the Hamilton area and is said to be in good health. The Haliburton Highlands OPP would like to thank the public for their assistance in helping to locate Mr. COPE.
