(PORT HOPE, ON) – On Monday May 26, 2014 Northumberland Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received complaints about concrete falling from an overpass on Highway 401.

Motorists alerted OPP around 10:15 pm yesterday about several pieces of concrete that had fallen onto the westbound lane of the 401 from the County Road 28 overpass in the Municipality of Port Hope. OPP closed down one lane of the highway to motorists while waiting for the Ministry of Transportation (MTO) maintenance crews to attend. No one was injured and the MTO advises that all lanes are now open.

(HEARST, ON) – On Tuesday May 27, 2014, members of Constance Lake First Nation (CLFN) plan to protest at the intersection of Highway 11 and Highway 663, which leads to the community of Constance Lake, approximately 30 kilometers west of the community of Hearst, Ontario.

The anticipated peaceful demonstration/blockade is to occur between 3 pm and 5 pm by protestors who will be closing the highway intermittently in order to bring awareness to Murdered and Missing Aboriginal Women.

The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is aware of the anticipated demonstration/blockade and is committed to maintain order and ensure public and officer safety during that period of time.

The OPP is requesting that all motorists traveling along the Highway 11 corridor, near the demonstration area, exercise patience during the anticipated traffic delays.

Police have discontinued the search for the possible missing person reported yesterday in the area of the West break wall (pier) in Port Stanley. Since the initial report to police that someone was seen out on the pier and had disappeared from view, no new information has been discovered.

An extensive search was conducted last evening and continued this morning by both water and land. Officers have canvassed the area and checked licence plates to look for abandoned vehicles but have had negative results.

“At this point we have discontinued the search in light of having no new information indicating that someone entered the water. Since the initial report we have not received any new information or any reports of missing or an overdue person. We have not received any leads to indicate someone had gone into the water or were outstanding. Our officers conducted another extensive search this morning utilizing the Elgin OPP Marine Unit and members for our Emergency Response Team. They did not come across anything to indicate a person had gone into the water.” Stated Staff Sergeant Greg DAFOE, Elgin County OPP Operations Manager.

Original Media Release Dated May 26, 2014 – Elgin County Ontario Provincial Police are currently engaged in a search for a possible missing person in the area of the west break wall (pier) in Port Stanley, ON.

At approximately 6:23pm on May 26, 2014 a witness on the main pier in Port Stanley observed a person bypass the security gate on the west break wall (pier) and walk out onto the pier. The witness could not determine whether the person was male or female but described the subject as being about 5”6” about 110lbs wearing a white t-shirt and jean shorts. The witness became alarmed when he could no longer see the subject; however the witness did not see the subject enter the water. The witness attended the area of the west pier and did not see anyone. He then contacted police.

Elgin OPP and members of the OPP Emergency Response Team along with Central Elgin Fire, Auxiliary Coast Guard Boat and a helicopter dispatched by the Rescue Co-ordination Centre in Trenton, ON conducted an extensive search until approximately 11pm with negative results.

Police are continuing to investigate the incident and will continue to search the area during daylight hours.

Police are looking to speak to anyone who may have been in the area around 6:20pm and observed someone out on the west pier, returning off of the pier, or exiting the water in that area. Witnesses can call the Elgin OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or 519-631-2920.

(ALNWICK HALDIMAND, ON) – On Sunday May 25, 2014 a Northumberland Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer came across a stranded motorist on Highway 401 that required assistance.

The officer was eastbound on Highway 401 just west of County Road 23 early Sunday afternoon on general patrol when she observed a vehicle that appeared to have broken down on the shoulder with smoke coming out of the engine. The officer stopped to help the young male driver. While the two were making arrangements to have the vehicle removed from the highway, a passerby stopped as well to offer assistance. The male driver indicated that he did not have any money for a tow truck when the passerby graciously opened his wallet and handed $80 to the stranded male and told him to “pay it forward sometime”.

The male accepted the money with gratitude and the OPP would like to thank the Good Samaritan for his generosity.

(THAMES CENTRE, ON)- On Wednesday May 21, 2014 at 9:56 a.m. members of the Middlesex County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Thames Centre Fire Department and Middlesex-London Emergency Medical Services (EMS) responded to a multi- vehicle collision at the intersection of Elgin Road and Crampton Drive in the Municipality of Thames Centre.

Police have learned that four of the vehicles involved were travelling northbound on Elgin Road. A northbound car on Elgin Road was waiting to make a left hand turn when a second northbound car collided into the back of it. A chain of events resulted in secondary collision between the second car and a transport truck also travelling northbound. The fourth northbound vehicle, a pickup truck maneuvered into a ditch. A southbound pickup ran off the roadway and struck a stop sign.

The driver of the second car, Johan GIESBRECHT, age 22 of Aylmer was transported to a local area hospital with possible life threatening injuries. He remains in hospital but is no longer critical.

Members of the OPP Technical Traffic Collision Investigation Team (TTCI) attended the scene to assist with the investigation.

A section of Elgin Road between Gladstone Drive and Mossley Drive was closed for the investigation and reopened at approximately 4:40 p.m.

The investigation is continuing.

(CHATHAM-KENT, ON) On May 27, 2014, just after midnight, a Chatham-Kent Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer was conducting RADAR enforcement on Highway 401 eastbound near Harwich Road.

The officer observed a Saturn automobile that appeared to be exceeding the posted speed limit of 100 km/hr. The RADAR registered a speed of 165 km/hr.

The officer stopped the vehicle, and as a result of conversation with the driver, 19 year old Jacob WALL, from Ridgetown, a small amount of suspected marihuana was seized.

Subsequent investigation also revealed that the driver had been consuming alcoholic beverages. A roadside test was completed which resulted in a warn range suspension.

The male driver, 19 year old Jacob WALL, from Ridgetown, is scheduled to appear in a Chatham court on July 3, 2014, to answer to the charge of Possession of Marihuana, under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.

The driver has also been charged with the following:

Drive Motor Vehicle-Perform Stunt – Speeding By 50 or More Km/hr, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act

Class G2 Licence Holder – B.A.C. Above Zero, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act

The driver’s licence has been suspended and the vehicle impounded for a period of seven days, as per statute.

(ADJALA-TOSORONTIO)- On May 27, 2014 at 5:18am, the Nottawasaga Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a call reporting a break and enter to a business on the 30th Sideroad of Adjala. Sometime between 6:00 pm on May 26th and 5:00 am on May 27th, 2014 a break and enter took place at the Adjala- Tosorontio Municipal building.

Police attended and began an investigation, calling the Forensic Identification Unit to assist in the investigation.

Police are asking anyone with information to contact Nottawasaga OPP at (705) 434-1939, looking for any suspicious persons or vehicles at the Adjala-Tosorontio Municipal building that would have been parked there during non-business hours.

(PETROLIA, ON) Lambton Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is continuing the investigation into a collision that involved a motor vehicle and a pedestrian who was attempting to cross Petrolia Line.

The pedestrian, a 57 year old Petrolia woman, was taken by Lambton Emergency Medical Services (EMS) to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The area where the collision took place had been closed by Lambton OPP for investigation but Petrolia Line is now completely open.

(CENTRE WELLINGTON TOWNSHIP, ON) – On May 25, 2014 at approximately 7:57 a.m. members of the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) investigated the driver of a 2004 GMC Sierra that was being driven erratically on Wellington Road 7 near the Second Line (Nichol Township) in Centre Wellington Township.

Upon speaking with the driver police discovered that he had been drinking as well showed signs of possible impairment. The driver was administered specialized field sobriety testing which he performed poorly. The driver was subsequently arrested for impaired driving and transported to the OPP detachment for further testing.

Jason Paul ZISTER aged 29 Greenock Township has been charged with Impaired Driving and Over 80 mgs contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada. He is scheduled to appear in Guelph Criminal court on June 13, 2014 to answer to the charges.

The Administrative Driver’s License Suspension (ADLS) program was initiated and his motor vehicle was impounded for seven days.

(SOUTH-WEST OXFORD TOWNSHIP, ON.) – The Oxford County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has laid charges in relation to an incident which occurred at a residence on Beachville Road in South-West Oxford Township at approximately 1:43 p.m. on May 26, 2014.

Police were called to assist with an ongoing neighbour dispute.

As a result of the police investigation, 52 year old Michael LAWRENCE of South-West Oxford Township has been charged under the Criminal Code of Canada with the following:

Uttering Threats – Cause Death or Bodily Harm
Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose

The male was held in custody to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Woodstock.

(KENORA, ON) Members of the Community Drug Action Team (CDAT) with assistance from the OPP Organized Crime Enforcement Bureau (OCEB), Kenora Drug Unit have charged two Kenora men with drug related offences. On Monday May 26, 2014 CADT and OCEB officers observed two males involved in a suspected drug transaction. Both men were arrested and a small amount of Hydromorphone pills were seized.

As a result of this investigation, 25 year old Harley MCLEOD of Kenora has been charged with Trafficking a Schedule I Substance contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substance Act and Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000. He has been held in custody for a bail hearing.

54 year old Douglas NETZEL, also of Kenora has been charged with Possession of a Schedule I Substance Contrary to the Controlled Drug and Substance Act and Fail to Comply with a Probation Order Contrary to the Criminal Code. He is to appear in Kenora court on June 3, 2014.

(KENORA, ON) Members of the Kenora Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged a Kenora man for an impaired driving offence following a vehicle stop in Downtown Kenora shortly before 3:00 am on Saturday May 24, 2014. The driver was arrested and transported for further tests.

As a result of this investigation, 44 year, George WHITING has been charged with Operating a Motor Vehicle with more than .80 mg of Alcohol in 100 ml of Blood, contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada. He is to appear in Kenora Court on June 26, 2014 to answer to the charge.
