Kevin PRENDERGAST – Drunk Driving, Dangerous Driving

(CALEDON, ON) – On May 23, 2014 at approximately 2:17 am, an officer from the Caledon Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) observed a northbound vehicle ahead of his marked cruiser. The vehicle was being operated in an erratic manner, swerving within the lane and across both the north and southbound lanes. The officer also noted the vehicle’s varying speeds from 80 to 115 km/hr. As the officer approached the vehicle from the rear, he observed the vehicle swerve off the road into the northbound shoulder. The officer activated the marked cruiser’s emergency systems to conduct a vehicle stop to check on the driver’s sobriety.

Upon speaking with the male driver, the officer detected an odour of alcohol on his breath. As a result, the driver was arrested and transported to Detachment for testing.

In conclusion, Kevin PRENDERGAST, 30, of Mississauga was arrested and charged with Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Over 80 and Dangerous Driving of a Motor Vehicle.

The Administrative Drivers’ Licence Suspension (ADLS) program was initiated and his motor vehicle was impounded for seven days.

The accused is scheduled to make his first appearance at the Ontario Court of Justice in Orangeville on July 3, 2014.

If you suspect that someone is driving or is about to drive impaired, call 9-1-1 and report it. If you see that someone is impaired and intends on driving, do not let them drive.

Amarjit HOTHI – Drunk Driving

(CALEDON, ON) – On May 25, 2014 at approximately 1:35 am, an officer from the Caledon Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was travelling eastbound on Mayfield Road when he observed a westbound blue Chrysler Sebring being operated without headlights. As the vehicle passed the officer’s location, he observed the vehicle travel over the center line, partially in the westbound lane. Subsequently, the officer initiated a traffic stop to check on the driver’s sobriety.

When the officer approached the vehicle, he requested the driver roll down the window and observed that the driver appeared unfocused and disoriented. The officer opened the driver’s side door and immediately detected a strong odour of alcohol on the driver’s breath. The driver required the officer’s assistance to remove his seatbelt and to step out of the vehicle. The officer arrested the driver and he was transported to Detachment for testing.

As a result of the officer’s observations, Amarjit HOTHI, 47, of Brampton was arrested and charged with Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle and Over 80.

Mario POLIDORI – Drunk Driving

(LAKESHORE, ON) -The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) in Lakeshore received a report of an erratic driver last evening just before midnight on Essex County Road 42 in Lakeshore.

Officers located the pickup truck in question and spoke to the driver who exhibited signs of impairment.

Mario POLIDORI, age 64, of Windsor was arrested and charged with Driving While Ability Impaired and Exceed 80 Milligrams Blood Alcohol Content. He will appear in a Windsor court on June 12, 2014.

TWO NOTTAWASAGA OPP OFFICERS TO BE HONORED AT THE CENTRAL REGION ACCOLADES AWARD CEREMONY

(NOTTAWASAGA)- On May 30, 2014 at 1:00 pm, the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Central Region Awards Ceremony will take place at the Barrie Golf and Country Club.

The ceremony, which is scheduled to run until approximately 3:00pm, will recognize dedicated years of service within the OPP, the Ontario Public Service (OPS) and recognize police and citizen acts of bravery, lifesaving, community service, exemplary performance of duty, investigations, selfless actions and assistance to the OPP.

Two Nottawasaga OPP Officers will be honored that day for Life Saving Awards: Provincial Constable Jason Fischer-Jenssen and Provincial Constable James Hargreaves.

On Dec 4, 2013, two women, were travelling together in Alliston, when one woman began experiencing medical distress and asked her friend to drive her to the hospital. While en route, the driver decided to expedite medical assistance and stopped at the Nottawasaga OPP Detachment as her friend’s condition began to rapidly deteriorate. Provincial Constable Jason Fischer-Jenssen worked with paramedic’s and performed CPR to regain the woman’s pulse and re-gain breathing.

On Feb 27, 2013, PC Hargreaves was working temporarily in the First Nation Territory of Pikangikum, Ontario when he responded to a report of a missing woman last seen walking near a lake. PC Hargreaves located the woman lying face down on the lake in snow, approximately 200 metres from shore. Officers on snowmobile got to the woman out on the lake where she was found unconsciousness. The woman was taken to medical personnel and treated for hypothermia.

Both Nottawasaga OPP Officers will be honored on May 30 for their actions in saving these two woman’s lives.

ROAD CLOSURE ADVISORY

(CHATHAM-KENT, ON) Chatham-Kent Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) advises of the closure of both westbound lanes on Highway 401 between Furnival Road and Orford Road for an undetermined amount of time while Emergency crews remove a tractor trailer from the north ditch as a result of a collision which occurred Wednesday evening.

Chatham-Kent OPP is asking motorists to exercise caution while Emergency Crews are at the scene and will be in and out of their vehicles.

TOW TRUCK AND TAXI CAB INSPECTIONS

(NOTTAWASAGA)- On May 28, 2014, the Nottawasaga Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and the Central Region Traffic Enforcement Team conducted routine annual inspections of tow truck and taxi cab vehicles in conjunction with the Town of New Tecumseth and the Township of Essa.

All total, there were seventeen tow truck vehicles inspected and 14 passed but four tow trucks were placed out of service.

There were sixteen taxi cab vehicles inspected and 9 passed with seven placed out of service.

Nottawasaga OPP would like to thank the Central Region Traffic Enforcement Team for their expertise during these inspections.

OPP INVESTIGATING SUSPICIOUS VEHICLE

(CITY OF KAWARTHA LAKES, ON.) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is currently requesting assistance with the identification of a suspicious vehicle.

On May 27, 2014 at approximately 3:15 p.m. a vehicle being operated by an unknown male approached a youth as he was walking from Lady Mac Kenzie Public School, on Kirkfield Road in Kirkfield. The male offered the youth a ride. The youth, who did not recognize the male, declined the offer. The incident was reported to the police on May 28, 2014.

The vehicle is described as a late model Ford F150 XLT extended cab, short box, sandy beige or champagne in colour, being operated by a male driver.

Anyone with information related to this incident is asked to contact the City of Kawartha Lakes detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police at 705-324-6741.

FLEEING SUSPECT VEHICLE

(Napanee, ON) – On April 10, 2014 at approximately 4:45pm, an officer attempted to stop a westbound Lincoln on Taylor Kidd Boulevard near County Road 6, Loyalist Township. The vehicle fled and a short time later the suspect driver fled on foot and was not apprehended.

As a result of the investigation on Wednesday, May 28th at 9:53 a.m. officers from the Napanee Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police arrested an adult male in relation to this incident.

During the arrest the male, resisted and attempted to flee from the officers.

Jacob NEIL, 19 years of age of Kingston is charged with the following offences;
Obstruct – Resist Peace Officer,
Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle,
Flight while Pursued by Peace Officer and
Fail to Comply with Recognizance contrary to the Criminal Code.

He is also charged with Drive under Suspension – while suspended, Use plate not authorized for vehicle contrary to the Highway Traffic Act, and Operate Motor Vehicle without insurance contrary to the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act.

He has been held in custody and will appear for a Bail Hearing on the 29th of May 2104 in Ontario Court of Justice, Napanee.

STUNT DRIVER

(Hwy# 62, Belleville) – On May 28, 2014 at 10:30 p.m. members of Central Hastings O.P.P stopped a vehicle for stunt driving on Highway # 62 just north of Ashley Street in the City of Belleville. A northbound vehicle was observed travelling in the southbound lane of Highway #62 in the process of passing several other northbound vehicles including a subdued marked OPP cruiser. The vehicle reached a speed of 136km per hour in a posted 80km per hour zone.

As a result the driver, 18 year old Brandon GLENN of Belleville, ON was charged with Race a motor vehicle – Speeding under the Highway Traffic Act. His drivers licence was seized and his vehicle was impounded both for a period of seven days.

Police Investigate Collision

(Pembroke, Ontario) – On the 28th of May while on patrol in the Town of Laurentian Hills a vehicle was observed and police attempted to stop it for a Highway Traffic Act Violation. The vehicle fled the scene and was not stopped. Shortly afterward police were advised that a vehicle had hit a pedestrian and fled the scene in the area of the Town of Deep River. An adult male was taken to hospital. The vehicle is believed to be a newer model red or orange coloured Camaro.

POLICE INVESTIGATE COLLISION – IMPAIRED DRIVER ARRESTED

(NORFOLK COUNTY, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Norfolk County Detachment have charged a 63 year old male with a drinking and driving related offence after police were called to a Norfolk Street South, Simcoe, Norfolk County, Ontario address.

On Tuesday, May 27, 2014 at approximately 7:58 p.m., police were contacted by a concerned citizen about a motor vehicle collision that had taken place in a parking lot.

As a result of police investigation, 63 year old David Leo ROLOSON of

Norfolk County, Ontario was arrested and charged with driving over the legal limit.

He is to appear in Provincial Court, Simcoe at a later date to answer to the charges.

OPP INVESTIGATING BREAK AND ENTER

(NORFOLK COUNTY, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Norfolk County Detachment is investigating a Break and Enter at a St George Street, Port Dover, Norfolk County, Ontario address.

On Monday, May 26, 2014 in the early morning hours, unknowns attended the Len’s Mill Store and gained entry. Once inside, unknowns removed a large quantity of Canadian currency.

The Norfolk County OPP Detachment is continuing to investigate and is seeking assistance from the public. If anyone has any information regarding this incident, they are being asked to contact the Norfolk County OPP Detachment at 1-888-310-1122.

OPP INVESTIGATING MISCHIEF TO VEHICLE

(NORFOLK COUNTY, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Norfolk County Detachment responded to an incident at an Ann Street, Delhi, Norfolk County, Ontario address.

On Monday, May 26, 2014 in the early morning hours, unknowns suspect(s) attended the address and proceeded to damage two tires on a parked motor vehicle located on the roadway.

The damage is estimated at approximately $500 dollars.
