Cyclist Struck by Vehicle

Around 9:00 p.m. last night, police responded to a collision on Harvey Street near Centre Street in Chatham.

A vehicle struck a cyclist. The 29-year-old female cyclist sustained minor injuries, however did not seek medical attention.

Total damages were estimated at $3000.

A 20-year-old Chatham man has been charged with disobeying a stop sign.

Motor Vehicle Collision in Howard Township

Just before 5:00 p.m. yesterday afternoon, police responded to a two-vehicle collision on Green Line.

Neither driver was injured. Total damages were estimated at $24,000

A 22-year-old Blenheim woman has been charged with careless driving.

Motor Vehicle Collision in Chatham

Around 12:30 p.m. yesterday afternoon, police responded to a single motor vehicle collision on Michener Road.

The 60-year-old Blenheim woman was transported to the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance for treatment of a medical condition. Damage was estimated at approximately $7000. The driver will not be charged.

Pellet Gun

On June 7, 2014, at 3:46 P.M., London Police Officers responded to a report of a male with a firearm inside of Doidge Park, located at 900 Wellington Street.

Police attended the area and arrested a 34-year-old male who was in possession of a pellet rifle with an attached scope. The male was observed by a witness to point the firearm in the direction of people playing within the park.

As a result of the investigation, Sackdavone Ounsamone, (34), is charged with the following Criminal Code of Canada offence:
– Possession of a weapon dangerous to the public peace, contrary to section 88(1)

Seized were the following:
– Phantom Pellet Gun with a 4X32 Scope
– Two cans of pellets

Kelly CLERMONT – Drunk Driving, No Insurance

(TOWN OF ERIN, ON) – On June 6, 2014 at approximately 9:08 p.m. members of the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Traffic Management Unit (TMU) were conducting R.I.D.E spot checks at the intersection of Wellington Road 50 and Wellington Road 125 in the Town of Erin. Police observed a 2002 BMW turn around in an attempt to avoid the spot check.

Officers stopped the motor vehicle and upon speaking with the driver, discovered that she had been drinking. She was administered a Roadside Screening Device test which resulted in a fail.

The Administrative Drivers’ Licence Suspension (ADLS) program was initiated and her motor vehicle was impounded for seven days. Further investigation revealed that the motor vehicle was not insured.

Kelly CLERMONT aged 36 of Rockwood has been charged with Over 80 mgs contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada and Operate Motor Vehicle – No Insurance contrary to the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act. She is scheduled to appear in Guelph Criminal Court on July 8, 2014 to answer to the charges.

LEAMINGTON MAN CHARGED WITH DRUG OFFENCES

(LEAMINGTON, ON) -The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Essex County Street Crimes Unit along with OPP Emergency Response Team (ERT) members and the OPP Drug Enforcement Unit (DEU) executed a search warrant at a residence in the 1200 block of Seacliff Drive East in Leamington.

Officers discovered approximately $7100 worth of marihuana as well as grow equipment in the residence.

Brian HARRIS, age 60, was arrested and charged with Possession of a Schedule II Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking (Marihuana) and Produce a Schedule II Substance (Cannabis Marihuana). He will appear in a Leamington court on July 31, 2014.

Leamington Man Charged After Disturbance

(LEAMINGTON, ON) -A Leamington man has been charged after a disturbance on Friday June 6, 2014.

The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) in Leamington was called to attend a residence on Southbridge Street in Leamington at approximately 9:40 p.m. regarding a male who was outside the residence yelling at neighbours.

Police arrived and subdued the male who resisted arrest and attempted to escape custody.

Waldemar Piotr SZYMANSKI, age 48 of Leamington has been charged with the following criminal code offences:

Possession of a Schedule II Substance (Marihuana)

Possession of a Schedule III Substance (Psilocybin Mushrooms)

Assault with Intent to Resist Arrest

He will appear in a Leamington court on July 3, 2014.

UPDATE – OPP INVESTIGATING DEATHS

(NAPANEE, ON) – On June 6, 2014 at approximately 6:10pm, Napanee officers of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a deceased male near Daley Road, Tyendinaga Township. A deceased female was located nearby.
Upon post mortem examinations, it has been determined that Patricia Asselstine, 43, was killed by her husband, Benjamin Lindsay, 47, who then committed suicide.
The investigation is continuing by the Napanee Crime Unit of the OPP, under the direction of Acting Detective Inspector Peter Donnelly, Criminal Investigation Branch. If anyone has information about this incident, they are asked to contact Napanee OPP at 613-354-3699.

OPP INVESTIGATE PLANE CRASH

(TINY TOWNSHIP, ON) – This afternoon at 1:48PM, officers from Southern Georgian Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a plane crash which took the life of the pilot at the Huronia Regional Airport located at 2 Ed Connelly Drive in Tiny Township.

The preliminary investigation has identified that the 69-year old male pilot and lone occupant was in the process of landing his ultra-light aircraft at the south end of the main runway when it came into contact with the runway.

The Transportation Safety Board (TSB) of Canada has been notified and is presently at the scene where they are conducting an investigation to determine the cause of this crash. The OPP’s Forensic Identification Services Unit (FISU) is also assisting with this ongoing investigation.

The OPP will not be releasing the identity of the pilot until a post mortem examination is conducted and next of kin notifications are complete.

BREAK AND ENTERS REPORTED IN NORWICH

(NORWICH, ON) – The Oxford County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is investigating three residential break and enters that occurred in Norwich, between June 6 and June 8, 2014.

Between June 6, 10:00 a.m. and June 7, 12:00 a.m., unknown suspect(s) forcibly entered a residence on Carmen Street in Norwich. Value of the items taken was approximately $2,500. The items taken included:

Xbox game console and four controllers
Acer laptop computer (silver)
STIHL concrete saw (orange)

And between June 7, 6:00 p.m. and June 7, 10:30 p.m., unknown suspect(s) entered a residence on Stover Street in Norwich. Value of the items taken was approximately $500. The items taken included:

16GB iPhone with black and dark grey Otterbox case
Armani men’s silver watch
Set of various keys on key ring

Also between June 7, 4:00 p.m. and June 8, 5:30 p.m., unknown suspect(s) forcibly entered a residence on Main Street in Norwich. Value of the items taken was approximately $4,000. The items taken included:

iMac desktop computer
17 inch computer screen
Toshiba laptop
Various jewellery

SEND A KID TO CAMP

(WASAGA BEACH, ON.) – On Thursday, June 19th, 2014 from 12:00 p.m. (noon) to 8:00 p.m., members of the Huronia West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police will be at the Wasaga Beach Harvey’s Restaurant at 349 Main Street in Wasaga Beach, helping prepare your favorite hamburger the way you like it, all to raise funds to send 2 youth to Camp.

Each year Central Region of the Ontario Provincial Police host a 4 day / 3 night summer camp for youth in our region, each Detachment is asked to select 2 campers who fit specific criteria. This year the Huronia West Detachment has selected its campers, one from the Town of Wasaga Beach and one from Clearview Township.

So please come out on Thursday, June 19th and help us send 2 worthy youth to summer camp and get a delicious hamburger topped the way you like it by a member of the OPP.

$1.00 from every hamburger sold that day is being generously donated by the awesome people at Harvey’s Restaurant.

UPDATE: ANNUAL COMMUNITY POLICING COMMITTEES PROPERTY & BICYCLE AUCTION

(CLEARVIEW & SPRINGWATER TOWNSHIP & WASAGA BEACH, ON.) – On Sunday, June 22nd, 2014 the Community Policing Committees of the Huronia West Detachment area will be holding their annual “Property and Bicycle” auction. This event will take place at the rear of the Huronia West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police at 1000 River Road West, Wasaga Beach (behind the big brown storage container), with viewing of the items starting at 12:00 p.m. and the auction starting at 1:00 p.m.

This year we are very happy to have a celebrity auctioneer Mr. Steve Green and a fund raising barbeque.

As always we will be auctioning off previously loved bicycles of various styles and conditions and numerous property items, including both hand tools and clothing items, electronics and some jewellery. Please remember all transactions are cash only, so bring lots and all sales are final!

In addition we have just received several “Dell” computers (CPUs and keyboards) and both ink jet and laser printers and a cash register.

Auction proceeds will go to Clearview, Springwater and Wasaga Beach Community Policing Committees to help fund safety and crime prevention initiatives in their communities.

MARIHUANA AND COCAINE SEIZED AT R.I.D.E. SPOT CHECK

(CENTRE WELLINGTON TOWNSHIP, ON) – On June 7, 2014 at approximately 8:37 p.m. members of the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting R.I.D.E. spot checks on Wellington Road 19 at the Sixth Line in Centre Wellington Township. Officers investigated the occupants of a Pontiac Grand Am that entered into the check point and immediately detected the strong odour of marihuana emanating from within the vehicle.

Police searched the vehicle and occupants and located marihuana, cocaine as well as assorted drug paraphernalia.

Justin DOUGHERTY aged 19 of Wellington North Township has been charged with Possession of Cocaine and Possession of Marihuana Under 30 Grams contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act. He is scheduled to appear in Guelph Court on July 15, 2014 to answer to the charges.

Ian THORNINGTON aged 20 of Wellington North Township has been charged with Possession of Marihuana Under 30 Grams contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act. He is scheduled to appear in Guelph Court on July 18, 2014 in Guelph Court to answer to the charge.

UPDATE – OPP ARREST NORTH GRENVILLE MAN FOR HIT and RUN

(KEMPTVILLE, ON) – On June 1, 2014, at approximately 5:15pm, officers of the Grenville detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a fatal hit and run collision on Townline Road, North Grenville.

Fifty-four (54) year old Roy Chapman was killed after he was struck by a grey pick-up truck while he was riding a bicycle.

The driver, 52 year-old Mark Gagne of North Grenville, was arrested at his home and is presently in custody facing the initial criminal charge of failing to stop at an accident.

The accused appeared in the Ontario Court of Justice, Brockville today and is now also charged with dangerous driving and dangerous driving causing death. The accused remains in custody and is scheduled to reappear in the Ontario Court of Justice, Brockville on June 12, 2014.

DRIVER STOPPED FOR TRAVELLING OVER TWICE THE POSTED SPEED LIMIT

(MIDDLESEX CENTRE TWP, ON) – A male driver is making other transportation arrangements for a while as his driving privileges have been suspended for driving too fast.

On June 7, 2014 at approximately 4:36 p.m. police observed a vehicle travelling at high rate of speed on Nairn Road in the area of Ilderton Road in Middlesex Centre Township. Police measured the vehicle to be travelling over twice the posted 60 km/h speed limit.

A traffic stop was initiated and the driver, Andy FELICIANO, age 22 of London, ON was charged under the stunt drive legislation. His vehicle was suspended and the vehicle he was driving was impounded for seven days. The accused was released by way of a Part III Summons and is scheduled to appear in a London traffic court July 14, 2014 to speak to the charges.
