RESTAURANT FIRE

(Havelock Belmont Methuen Township, ON) – On Friday June 20, at approximately 5:00 a.m., members of the Peterborough County OPP responded to a request of the Havelock Belmont Methuen Fire Department to assist in traffic control on Highway 7. This was to assist Fire Fighters in extinguishing a structure fire at a restaurant, known as The Ranch located at 7810 Highway 7.

OPP assisted in traffic control of a section of Highway 7 between Blairton Road and Sama Park Road as the Fire Crews extinguished the fire. The Fire affected Traffic in the area between 5:00 to 9:30 am.

At the time of the fire the business was closed and no one was injured as a result of the fire. The fire has been determined by the Havelock Belmont Methuen Fire Department to be accidental and caused by an electrical appliance in the restaurant. Damage to the structure is quite ostensive, no dollar value has been determined at this time.

Search Warrant

(TRENTON, ON) – On Friday the 20th day of June 2014 the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Tactics and Rescue Unit (TRU), Drug Enforcement Unit (DEU), OPP East Region Emergency Response Team (ERT), OPP Canine, Belleville Police Service Drug Unit, and members of the Quinte West OPP Detachment executed a Controlled Drugs and Substances Search Warrants at the upper apartment of the coach house located on Dufferin Ave. Trenton, ON.

No othe information is available pending further investigation.

OBSTRUCT POLICE

(QUINTE WEST, ON) – On June 20, 2014 at approximately 1:50am Quinte West OPP responded to a King St establishment for the report of an unwanted person.

When police arrived on scene they spoke to an intoxicated female. After an investigation it was learned that intoxicated female was lying to police about her identity. A subsequent police records check of the female also showed that she was on several court orders and at the time of the incident she was breaching her court orders.

As a result a 28 year old Trenton female has been charged with Obstruct Police as well as 3 counts of breaching her court order. The female is being held for a bail hearing at The Ontario Court of Justice 15 Bridge St East, Belleville.

EMPLOYEE CAUGHT RED HANDED

(Hawkesbury, ON) The Hawkesbury OPP Crime Unit has been investigating a series of thefts that occurred at the Canadian Tire Store during the last months.

The investigation led to the arrest of an employee that was caught stealing various items such as electronics from the store.

An accumulation of proof was gathered by Detective Constable Steve Hamel of the Hawkesbury OPP during his investigation. The detective then attended the Canadian Tire Store on Tuesday June 17th where the employee was arrested while he was exiting the store at the end of his shift.

As the employee was being arrested and searched, the detective found in his back pack, dog food and electronics that were being stolen from the Canadian Tire Store. Further search also revealed cannabis resin and methamphetamines to be in the employee’s possession.

Maxime TREMBLAY (21 yrs) of Hawkesbury was arrested and charged under the Criminal Code of Canada with 8 counts of Theft Under $5000 of section 334(b).

He was also charged under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act with the following:

– Section 4(1) Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Methamphetamine

– Section 4(1) Possession of a Schedule II substance- Cannabis resin – under 1gram

The investigator was able to recover a part of the stolen items. The total value of the stolen property over a period of time was evaluated at more than $2500.

The accused is scheduled to appear at the L’Orignal court house on the 2nd of July 2014.

Successful Joint Traffic Enforcement Initiative

(BRUCE PENINSULA, ON) – On Thursday the 19th of June 2014, Bruce Peninsula Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) partnered up with the Ministry of Transportation (MTO) and the Ministry of Finance (MOF) to conduct a joint traffic enforcement initiative with the main focus being commercial motor vehicles.

In total, 18 commercial motor vehicles were stopped and safety inspections were completed at various locations. The results are as follows:

-One truck had its plates removed due to numerous defects

-Six had to have repairs done before leaving

– Five had minor defects but were allowed to continue on and the final six had zero defects.

Commercial vehicle safety is a priority and Bruce Peninsula OPP would ask all commercial vehicle owners and operators to do their part in keeping Ontario roadways safe.

16 Year Old Faces Theft, Break and Enter, Breach and Alcohol Charges

(ASHFIELD-COLBORNE-WAWANOSH, ON) – Yesterday morning, just before 8:00 a.m. a Dungannon resident was awakened to the sound of breaking glass coming from her neighbour’s back yard located on Albert Street. She peered into her neighbour’s yard and observed a young male trying to gain entry into her neighbour’s Ford pickup truck.

The alert witness immediately called police and reported the crime in progress. As police were en-route to the scene police learned the victim had followed the suspect and had a visual on him. Police located the suspect on Southampton Street and were able to arrest him without incident.

Upon further investigation officers learned the young male tried to steal a quantity of cash from the pickup truck along with the property from within the residence prior to being confronted by the homeowner. Upon arrest, officers determined the male had been consuming alcohol and was also currently serving a probation sentence.

As a result, a 16 year old Young Person from Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh was charged with the following offences:

Mischief Under $5,000

Theft Under $5,000 from a motor vehicle

Break, Enter a Dwelling House with Intent to Commit an Indictable Offence

Theft Under $5,000

Failure to Comply with a Disposition

Person Under 19 years Consuming Liquor.

He had a bail hearing today at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich.

Serious Vehicle Collision Update

(TOWNSHIP OF PERTH EAST, ON) As a result of Monday’s two vehicle collision at the intersection of Highway 8 and Road 125, one of the drivers has succumbed to injuries sustained.

Kenneth EATON (45) of Stratford, passed away at a London Hospital today.

Investigation revealed that at approximately 6 p.m. Monday June 16, 2014, Mr. EATON was operating a silver Toyota sedan that was travelling east bound in the east bound lane on Hwy 8. When his Toyota neared the intersection of Road 125, it crossed over into the west bound lane where a Chevrolet Blazer was travelling west bound. A frontal collision ensued resulting in extensive damage to both vehicles.

The 38 year old female driver of the Chevrolet Blazer, a Stratford resident, was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries following the crash. She has since been released from hospital.

The OPP Western Region Traffic Collision Investigation Unit attended the scene and is continuing their investigation into this crash.

Fernando DEMELO – Caught Trying To Steal Camper Trailer

(BLUEWATER, ON) – A 33 year old is facing a charge of theft after he was caught in the act trying to steal a camper trailer last night. Just before 8:00 p.m. officers responded to the Bluewater Golf Course & Campground located on Bluewater Veteran’s Highway after receiving a call from the property owner. Police learned two males were on the property and were in the process of hooking onto a used Belair camper trailer when they were confronted by the owner. The suspects made up a story but the owner didn’t buy it. As the owner was calling police the suspects fled the scene.

Early this morning, at about 1:30 a.m. Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers encountered the suspect vehicle, a silver Dodge Pickup on Road 130 in the Municipality of Perth South. The driver was arrested for the attempted theft of the trailer.

As a result, Huron County OPP has charged 33 year old Fernando DEMELO from Huron East with one count of Theft Under $5,000 contrary to section 334 (b) Criminal Code. He has since been released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for July 7, 2014 at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich.

Michael McDONALD – Ditch Drunk Drivnig

(ELDERSLIE TWP, ON) – On June 18, 2014 at 4:57 pm, the South Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of a single vehicle crash along Bruce County Road 3 in Elderslie Township. Officers arrived to find that a Red Ford pick-up truck left the roadway and came to rest in the ditch. The driver was found to have been drinking alcohol. 64 year old Michael McDONALD of Brant County has been charged with Impaired driving and Operate over 80 milligrams. He is scheduled to appear in court on July 21, 2014 to answer to the charges.

Police Investigating Daylight Break In

(ARRAN TWP, ON) – On June 18, 2014 at 8:06 pm, the South Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of a break in at a residence in the 4000 block of Bruce County Road 3 in Arran Township. Sometime between 11:00 am and 4:00 pm on June 18, 2014, the home was entered through a window and a quantity of cash was taken.

DANGEROUS CONDITION

On Friday June 20 2014 at 8:44 a.m. Waterloo Regional Police received a call from the Kitchener Fire Department regarding an ammonia leak at 235 Ardelt Avenue in an industrial cooler. The building was evacuated as a precaution, the leak was small and contained to the building. There were no injuries as a result of this incident. The Ministry of Labour and the Ministry of Environment were notified.

DANGEROUS CONDITION

On Thursday June 19, 2014 at approximately 8:49am an excavator was digging a trench for a City of Cambridge waterline at the corner of Lowther Street and Moore Street. A natural gas line was punctured and began to leak. Cambridge Fire and the Waterloo Regional Police Service responded and evacuated nearby houses as a precaution. The leak was sealed and residents were allowed back to their houses. There were no injuries and no further safety concerns at this time.

Guelph Police Lay Trafficking Charges in Death Investigation

On June 16th, 2014 Guelph Police were called to a Guelph residence in relation to a 59 year old female victim who was vital signs absent (VSA).

An investigation was commenced by the Guelph Police Investigative Services Unit into the death of the female victim, and as a result a 41 year old Guelph female was charged with two counts of Trafficking. The accused is alleged (on two separate occasions) to have provided her medication to the deceased prior to her death.

The accused and the deceased female are known to one another. The accused was charged and later released on an Officer in Charge Undertaking and Promise to Appear with a court date of August 5th, 2014. The cause of death is still being further investigated and therefore no further information will be released.

Drug Transaction – Arrests Made

On June 19th, 2014, members of the Guelph Police observed an interaction between two persons in St. Georges Square. An investigation was commenced and as a result, a quantity of Dilaudid, Morphine, Lorazepam, Oxycodone and Marihuana were seized.

A 33 year old Guelph male and a 38 year old Guelph male have been charged with Trafficking a Controlled Substance, Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking and Possession of a Controlled Substance. They have been held in custody pending a bail hearing on June 20th, 2014.

Break and Enter (Raleigh TWP)

The Chatham-Kent Police are looking for information regarding a break and enter that occurred during the day on Thursday.

The complainant reports suspects forced their way into a home on Queens line in Raleigh Township. Several items were stolen including cash, jewellery and liquor. The total value of the theft has not been determined yet and the investigation is continuing.
