Joshua LAYCOX Charged With Setting Fire To Dumpster

(GODERICH, ON) – A 19 year old male has been charged with Arson after a police investigation determined he had set fire to a garbage dumpster. Just before midnight on June 18, 2014 Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers and Goderich Fire Department members attended to the rear of the Goderich District Collegiate Institute located on South Street in Goderich for the dumpster fire. It was determined the fire was suspicious nature and police initiated an investigation.

Investigators have since determined 19 year old Joshua LAYCOX from Central Huron set fire to the dumpster and he is now facing a charge of Arson. He has been released from custody and has a court appearance scheduled for July 7, 2014 at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich.

Driver Gets 3 Day Suspension and Vehicle Impoundment

(BLUEWATER, ON) – A 39 year old male will be without driving privileges for three days this week following a traffic stop on June 22, 2014. At 3:15 a.m., Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers responded to a complaint of a red SUV that was heading northbound on Bluewater Veteran’s Highway. The witness observed the driver of the Ford SUV travelling in and out of the marked lane of travel. Officers located and stopped the suspect vehicle on Bluewater Veteran’s Highway near Telephone Road.

Upon speaking with the driver the officer detected the driver had been drinking alcohol. This resulted in a roadside test being administered. The driver failed the roadside test and was transported to the Forest OPP Detachment for breath tests.

He later provided samples of his breath to the Intoxilizer Technician and his readings now registered in the warn range. As a result, a 39 year old male driver from Chatham was served with a three day driver’s license suspension. Additionally, his motor vehicle has been impounded for three days.

John ZYLSTRA – Drunk Driving

(BRIGHTON, ON) – On June 26, 2014 Northumberland Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was conducting speed enforcement on Highway 401 when the officer stopped a motorist for excessive speed. The driver was then found to be impaired.

At approximately 1:52 am a Northumberland OPP officer was conducting speed enforcement on eastbound Highway 401 east of County Road 26 overpass in the Municipality of Brighton when a motorist was found to be travelling at 154 km/hour in the posted 100 km/hour zone. The officer stopped the silver 2005 Hyundai to investigate and found that the lone male driver was under the influence of alcohol. The male was arrested and taken to Brighton OPP Detachment for breath tests.

Nicholas John ZYLSTRA, age 20 from Lowbanks, Ontario (Haldimand County) has been charged with the following offences.

Impaired operation of a motor vehicle and over 80 milligrams blood alcohol content – Criminal Code
Racing – Highway Traffic Act
Drive motor vehicle with open container of liquor – Liquor Licence Act.

The accused drivers licence has been suspended for 90 days and his vehicle has been impounded for seven days. He was released on a promise to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice on Wednesday July 16, 2014 at 9:30 am in Cobourg. .

Bonnie STEWART – Drunk Driving

(SIOUX LOOKOUT, ON) On June 24th, 2014 at 2:55 p.m. Sioux Lookout Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a traffic complaint of a possible impaired driver in Sioux Lookout.

It was reported that the driver failed to stop after colliding with a parked vehicle and then nearly struck a pedestrian. Police located the vehicle and arrested the driver for numerous offences.

Bonnie STEWART (46 years) of Sioux Lookout was arrested and charged with Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Operate Motor Vehicle Over 80 Milligrams and Fail to Remain. She will appear in Sioux Lookout Court on July 15, 2014 to answer to the charges.

SPECIAL OLYMPICS TORCH RUN

(HALIBURTON, ON) – On Saturday June 28, 2014 officers from the Haliburton Highlands Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) will be teaming up with the Haliburton Red Wolves Special Olympic Athletes. The group will be attending the villages of Haliburton, Kinmount and Minden where they will be conducting their torch run event. The purpose of the event is to raise money and awareness for our athletes. The event will conclude with a celebration barbeque for the athletes at the Minden Legion following the runs. The Haliburton event will start shortly after 9:00 am and then proceed to Kinmount and end in Minden near noon hour. Please come out and show your support for our local participants who are extremely excited and proud of this event.

OPP RECOVER JOHN DEERE TRACTOR AND PICK-UP TRUCK VALUED AT OVER 100,000 DOLLARS

(TOWN OF MINTO, ON) – On June 25, 2014 at around 6:00 p.m. members of the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Traffic Management Unit (TMU) attended a rural property located on the Eleventh Line of Minto Townshhip, approximately one kilometer east of Highway 9 in response to information received of the whereabouts of a stolen John Deere tractor.

Officers attended the location on all-terrain vehicles and located a John Deere loader tractor model 6430 as well as a 2011 Ford F-150 pick-up truck. The tractor was almost completely submerged in the marsh and the truck was stuck in the mud.

Investigation revealed that both the tractor and pick-up truck were reported to police as stolen with an estimated combined value of $121,500.

The investigation is still on-going at this time.

TWO VEHICLE COLLISION HIGHWAY 401 Driver Charged

(CHATHAM-KENT, ON) Chatham-Kent Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have completed the investigation in the fatal collision on Highway 401 on May 10, 2014, which resulted in the deaths of Marc LAFONTAINE, age 35, and Alyssa SMULDERS, age 13, both from Windsor.

The male driver of the Freightliner tractor trailer, Leszek URBANIAK, age 57, from London, has been charged with Dangerous Operation Causing Death (x2), under the Criminal Code of Canada. He will appear in a Chatham court on July 8, 2014, to answer to the charges.

HUNTSVILLE OPP INVESTIGATES FATALITY ON HIGHWAY #60 Victim Identified

(HUNTSVILLE, ON) On Wednesday June 25, 2013 just before 2:30pm Huntsville Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was advised of a serious motor vehicle collision on highway #60 near Grassmere Lake Road in Huntsville, On. The Huntsville Fire Department along with Muskoka EMS was also in attendance.

The driver of the Subaru who had succumbed to his injuries has been identified as James MILLER 66 years-old of Huntsville Ont.

The driver of the ford Escape is recovering in a southern hospital, and the passenger has since been released.

Huntsville OPP along with the assistance of the TTCI unit is continuing to investigate the cause of the crash. Charges are pending.

OPP LAY CHARGES LINKED TO COMMERCIAL BREAK-INS

(IROQUOIS FALLS, ON) – Members of the Iroquois Falls Ontario Provincial

Police (OPP) Detachment, and the South Porcupine OPP Crime Unit have completed their investigation into a series of break-ins at local businesses.

A total of 8 local businesses were broken into between March and August of 2013.

As a result of the investigation, Jeffrey TANNER, 53, of Sault Ste Marie, Ontario was arrested on June 16th , 2014.

He is charged with 9 counts of Break and Enter and 6 counts of Possession of Goods Obtained by Crime contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada.

He has been released on a Promise to Appear requiring him to attend Provincial Court in Timmins on August 5th , 2014, to answer to the charges laid against him.

Gerald VATERS – Drunk Driving

(TOWN OF ERIN, ON) – On June 25, 2014 at approximately 9:40 p.m., Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a traffic complaint about a Dodge pickup truck northbound on Trafalgar Road, Town of Erin. Police located the male with the vehicle at a residence on Third Line, Town of Erin and he showed signs of impairment by alcohol. He was arrested and transported to the South Wellington Operations Centre for testing.

Gerald VATERS age 53 from the Town of Erin is charged with Impaired Driving and Over 80 mgs contrary to the Criminal Code. He is scheduled to appear in Guelph Criminal Court on July 11, 2014 to answer the charges.

Richard PETRIE – Fail to Comply

(TOWN OF MINTO, ON) -On June 24, 2014, at approximately 6:45 a.m., Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) executed a search warrant to a Harriston home. Police located a male visiting the home and was on conditions to follow a curfew and be at his own home.

Richard PETRIE age 48 of Harrsiton is charged with Failing to Comply with an Undertaking contrary to the Criminal Code. He is to appear in Guelph Criminal Court on August 1, 2014 to answer to the charge.

RESIDENTIAL BREAK AND ENTER

(Centre Hastings, ON) – On June 15, 2014 sometime between 11:00 a.m. and 9 p.m. a break and enter occurred to a residence on Boundary Road near Roslin in the Municipality of Centre Hastings. A large quantity of jewelry (rings, necklaces, bracelets and watches) was stolen.

OPP VEHICLE INVOLVED IN COLLISION

(BRANT COUNTY, ON) On June 26, 2014 at around 8:30 a.m., an unmarked Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Dodge vehicle collided with a Honda vehicle at the intersection of Paris Road and Dundas Street East.

Investigation determined that the police vehicle was travelling west on Dundas Street East with its emergency equipment activated. The police vehicle was attempting to turn south onto Paris Road when it collided with the Honda that was travelling east on Dundas Street.

Both drivers were transported to area hospitals where they were treated for minor injuries and released.

The OPP Technical Traffic Collision Investigation Team has been called in to assist with the investigation. Traffic is being re-routed around the collision scene at Oak Park Road and Kitchen School Road.

The investigation is continuing and further information will be released when it becomes available.

DRIVER CHARGED IN SINGLE MOTOR VEHICLE COLLISION

(CHATHAM-KENT, ON) On June 26, 2014, just after 9:30 a.m., Chatham-Kent Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers responded to a collision involving a single tractor trailer on the Highway 401 westbound off ramp at Bloomfield Road.

The collision occurred when a Freightliner tractor trailer left the roadway as it was exiting Highway 401 westbound. The vehicle rolled over and came to rest on its side in the median of the westbound on and off ramps, spilling the contents of the trailer into the median.

The male driver, 57 year old Jaswant BAINS, from Brampton, was transported to hospital with minor injuries. He has been charged with Careless Driving, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.

Stolen Truck Burnt – Three Teens Face Charges – Tyler BECKER-HENDERSON, Joseph POTTIE & Zachary CHRYSLER

(GODERICH, ON) – Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers including members from the Huron OPP Crime Unit have arrested three teens in relation to a recent theft and subsequent arson of a pickup truck. Just before 2:00 a.m. on June 20, 2014 Huron County OPP and Goderich Fire Department responded to a vehicle fire at the Goderich District Collegiate Institute (GDCI) parking lot located on Bennett Street West. Goderich Fire extinguished the fire; however, the 1998 GMC pickup sustained extensive fire damage.

Police investigation determined the suspects entered the pickup truck that was parked on Bennett Street East and proceeded to steal a CB radio from the truck. Two of the youth then proceeded to steal the truck. They didn’t make it very far down the road as the truck ran out of power as it approached the GDCI parking lot. One of the suspects then intentionally set the truck on fire and fled the scene.

Police have now arrested and charged the three involved suspects.

Tyler BECKER-HENDERSON, age 18, from Goderich has been charged with Arson, Theft Under $5,000 – Motor Vehicle and Theft Under $5,000. He has been released from custody and has a court appearance scheduled for July 7, 2014 at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich.

Joseph POTTIE, age 18, from Goderich has been charged with Theft Under $5,000 – Motor Vehicle and Theft Under $5,000. He has been released from custody and has a court appearance scheduled for August 18, 2014 at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich.

Zachary CHRYSLER, age 19, from Goderich has been charged with Theft Under $5,000. He has been released from custody and has a court appearance scheduled for August 18, 2014 at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich.
