$300,000 Drug Bust

(Tiny Township, Springwater Township, York Region, ON) – Members of the Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU) from the Southern Georgian Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have laid numerous charges against three individuals following a multi-jurisdictional warrant execution.

In Autumn 2024, the Southern Georgian Bay CSCU initiated a drug trafficking investigation involving multiple individuals. On December 4, 2025, search warrants were executed simultaneously at residences in York Region and Tiny Township, along with a vehicle stop in Springwater Township.

Assisting with this investigation were the Collingwood/Orillia/Huronia West/Caledon/Nottawasaga CSCU, Tactics and Rescue Unit (TRU), Emergency Response Team (ERT), Canine Unit, Central Region Intelligence Unit, Frontline Uniform Members, Offender Transport Unit, and York Regional Police Tactical Teams.

Officers seized multiple kilograms of suspected cocaine and crystal methamphetamine valued at approximately $300,000, as well as items consistent with the sale and trafficking of drugs, including cell phones, currency, digital scales, and a vacuum sealer.

As a result of the investigation, three individuals were arrested and charged with offences under the Criminal Code and Controlled Drugs and Substances Act:

Timothy LEMAY, 33 years of Tiny Township was held for a bail hearing on December 5, 2025 before the Ontario Court of Justice :

  • Trafficking in Schedule I Substance – Other Drugs
  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine
  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Methamphetamine
  • Possession of Proceeds of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000

Brent BELANGER, 55 years of Tiny Township was held for a bail hearing on December 5, 2025 before the Ontario Court of Justice:

  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine
  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Methamphetamine
  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Cocaine

Abas SHIRE, 33 years of Brampton was released on an Undertaking to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice at a later date:

  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine
  • Possession of Proceeds of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000
  • Fail to Comply with Probation Order

Antonio JEMEC Was Arrested Following Hit & Run

(TINY TOWNSHIP, ON) An investigation into a collision in Tiny Township has resulted in impaired driving charges against a local resident.

On November 29, 2025, at approximately 4:45 p.m., members of the Southern Georgian Bay detachment of the OPP attended the parking lot of a business on Tiny Beaches Road North to investigate a vehicle that had been damaged in a collision. Police learned that two occupants had left the vehicle on foot and that the driver appeared unsteady.

Officers patrolled the area and located two pedestrians matching the descriptions of the vehicle’s occupants. The driver was identified and exhibited signs of alcohol impairment. Officers arrested the driver and transported them to the detachment for breath testing.

As a result of this investigation, Antonio JEMEC, 69 years of Tiny Township, faces the following charges contrary to the Criminal Code and Highway Traffic Act:

  • Operation While Impaired
  • Operation Over 80 Milligrams
  • Fail to Remain at Collision
  • Fail to Report Collision

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Midland on December 18, 2025. Upon being charged with impaired driving, the accused’s driver’s licence was suspended for 90 days, and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

Tiny Road-Rage Leads To Arrest – Details Released

(TINY TOWNSHIP, ON) – A driver faces impaired related charges following a road rage incident near Balm Beach yesterday afternoon.

On November 18, 2025, at approximately 1:30 p.m., members of the Southern Georgian Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a road rage on Tiny Beaches Road in the Township of Tiny.

Officers attended the area and located the involved driver who was displaying signs of alcohol impairment. The driver was arrested and transported to detachment however they refused to provide a breath sample.

As a result of this investigation, Rory OLIVER, 26, of Tay Township, has been charged with the following offences contrary to the Criminal Code:

  • Operation While Impaired
  • Failure or Refusal to Comply with Demand

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Midland on December 4, 2025. Upon being charged, the individual’s driver’s licence is suspended for 90 days, and the vehicle they were operating is impounded for seven days.

More Impaired Drivers – Holly EDWARDS, Jessica MENZIE & Alexander SIBBALD

(MIDLAND, ON) Members of the Southern Georgian Detachment of the OPP were kept busy this week enforcing Impaired Driving laws. The Ontario Provincial Police remains committed to keeping our roads safe and is appreciative when concerned citizens call 911 to report drivers that they feel are under the influence.

On November 8, 2025 at around 8 p.m. a member of the Southern Georgian Bay detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police(OPP) was travelling on Harbourview Drive in the Town of Midland and observed a vehicle crossing the centre line. The officer stopped the vehicle on Fuller Avenue and following a conversation with the driver there was a suspicion that they had been consuming alcohol. The officer demanded a breath sample and the driver registered a “Fail”. They were arrested and transported to detachment for further breath samples.

As a result of this investigation, Holly EDWARDS, 40 years of Tiny Township facing the following Criminal Code and Highway Traffic Act offences:

  • Operation While Impaired
  • Operation Over 80 Milligrams
  • Drive Left of Centre – Approaching Crest of Grade

On November 10, 2025 at around 10 p.m., a call was received from a citizen who observed a vehicle travelling on Bayshore Drive in the Town of Midland which lost control, striking a telephone pole in the snowy weather. The driver of the vehicle stopped briefly but then left the scene of the collision. Police were nearby and followed fresh tracks in the snow which led them to a residence on Queen Street. The officer observed a vehicle matching the description of the suspect vehicle parked behind the home. Further investigation led police to the driver who was arrested for for failing to remain at the scene. The officer noted signs of alcohol consumption and demanded the driver provide a breath sample however they refused. The individual was transported to detachment.

As a result of this investigation, Jessica MENZIE, 30 years of Midland, is accused of the following offences contrary to the Criminal Code:

  • Operation While Impaired
  • Failure or Refusal to Comply with a Demand

On November 11, 2025 just after 6 p.m. Police received a called from a concerned citizen who had observed a individual who appeared to be impaired, walking out of a King Street restaurant and getting behind the wheel. A description of the vehicle was provided and an officer located it travelling on nearby Elizabeth Street in the Town of Midland. The officer spoke with the driver and observed signs of alcohol impairment. The driver was placed under arrest and transported to detachment to provide breath samples.

As a result of this investigation, Alexander SIBBALD, 72 years of Midland faces the following charges contrary to the Criminal Code:

  • Impaired Operation
  • Operation While Over 80 Milligrams

The accused parties from the above occurrences were released from custody and are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Midland on November 27, 2025. Upon being charged, the individual’s driver’s licence is suspended for 90 days, and the vehicle they were operating is impounded for seven days.

$9.5 Million “Drug” Bust @ Licensed Grower!

(TINY TOWNSHIP, ON) – A significant quantity of cannabis was seized yesterday following an investigation into a grow operation.

On the morning of October 15, 2025, a search warrant was executed at a rural property on Chemin du Loup in Tiny Township. Prior investigation revealed that the location was being used for a large-scale grow operation. Police had grounds to believe that a small, licensed cannabis production facility was producing well beyond its authorized limits.

Members of the Southern Georgian Bay OPP Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU) were assisted by Huronia West/Collingwood CSCU, as well as the Central Region OPP Emergency Response Team (ERT).

Six individuals located inside the property were arrested upon police arrival.

During the search of the property, the following items were seized:

  • 8,100 live cannabis plants
  • 762 pounds of dried cannabis
  • A quantity of Canadian currency

The total estimated value of the seized items is approximately $9.5 million.

The six individuals were released unconditionally. Further suspects are being sought for offences contrary to the Cannabis Act.

22 Year Old Facing Drunk Driving Charge

(TINY TOWNSHIP, ON) – Driving while impaired just never ends well and on Thursday, September 25, 2025, at approximately 9:31 p.m. those words rang true as officers from the Southern Georgian Bay OPP Detachment responded to a report of an single vehicle crash which was south bound on Highway 93 at the time near Preston Road, Tiny Township.

The vehicle entered the ditch causing serious injuries to the lone driver who was triaged by attending Tiny Township Fire Services and Simcoe County Paramedics and was transported to an area hospital for medical treatment.

Attending OPP officers entered into an impaired driving investigation upon arrival and have completed their investigation with the following criminal charges being issued to Ethan MARCOTTE 22 years of Barrie.

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol

And Further under the Provincial Offences Act

  • Drive Motor Vehicle Without Insurance

The accused was released and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on October 9, 2025. His driver’s licence was suspended for 90 days, and the involved vehicle was impounded for 7 days under ADLS guidelines.

ORV Vs Downed Tree – One Sent To Hospital, One Arrested

(TINY TOWNSHIP, ON) – On Saturday, September 20, 2025, at approximately 11:49 p.m., officers from the Southern Georgian Bay OPP Detachment responded to a report of an off-road vehicle (ORV) crash in the bush area near Nineth Concession East and Baseline Road.

A John Deere side-by-side ORV struck a downed tree, resulting in serious injuries to a 31-year-old male passenger. Emergency services, including Tiny Township Fire and Simcoe County Paramedics, attended the scene and transported the injured individual to hospital.

The 29-year-old male driver was arrested at the scene and transported for further investigation. As a result, David PETTEN of Tiny Township has been charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

The accused was released and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on October 2, 2025. His driver’s licence was suspended for 90 days, and the ORV was impounded for 7 days under ADLS guidelines.

21 Year Old Dirt-biker Arrested

(TINY TOWNSHIP, ON)- A Sergeant from the Southern Georgian Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) conducting a neighbourhood patrol for suspicious vehicles and persons nabbed a dirt bike roaring around the Copeland Creek neighbourhood at approximately 11:30 p.m. August 30, 2025.

The officer made the stop on Timberland Court after encountering the dirt bike being operated without any lights or licence plates on the roadway and upon speaking to the driver, entered into an impaired driving investigation.

As a result of this investigation, 21 year old Nicholas HANCOCK of Midland has been charged criminally with Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus) along with a number of Provincial Offences Act violations.

The accused was released from custody to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice  on September 18, 2025, and was also served a 90 day drivers licence suspension. The involved vehicle was towed and subject to a 7 day vehicle impound in accordance to the Ministry of Transportation (ADLS) guidelines.

Nelson Robert LARAMEY Facing Numerous Charges

(TINY TOWNSHIP, ON) –  An early morning vehicle stop on Simcoe County Road 6 Tiny Township by a keen eyed member of the Southern Georgian Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police has resulted in a drug seizure and vehicle impound and a load of charges for a Tiny Township resident.

Near 2:38 a.m. March 17, 2025, outside of Wyevale, the officer conducted a vehicle stop of a white Jeep for a traffic violation and upon speaking with the driver an identity investigation was commenced leading to further roadside investigation resulting in the seizure of open liquor and a quantity of suspected cocaine and drug paraphernalia.

As a result of this investigation 42 year old Nelson Robert LARAMEY has been charged with the following offences;

  • Obstruct Peace Officer
  • Operation While Prohibited under the Criminal Code

Contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

And Further With

  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance- Cocaine

Contrary to the Controlled Drug and Substances Act

And the Following Provincial Offences

  • Drive motor vehicle while suspended x2
  • Drive motor vehicle – no licence
  • Fail to provide permit – motor vehicle
  • Fail to provide insurance card
  • Improper mud guards
  • Operate motor vehicle with open liquor readily available to driver

The accused was served notice to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice  on May 1, 2025 and the involved vehicle was towed and impounded for 45 days  in accordance to the Ministry of Transportation (ADLS) guidelines.The accused was then turned over to OPP officers at another detachment who held a number of warrants for his arrest.

Search Warrants Executed at Two Midland Locations

As a result of an ongoing investigation by members of the OPP Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU) attached to the Southern Georgian Bay, Huronia West and Collingwood OPP Detachments assisted by uniform members and OPP Central Region Canine (K-9), search warrants were executed at two separate locations in the Town of Midland on the morning of February 6, 2025.

As a result, numerous stolen items along with a quantity of a substance believed to be cocaine were recovered and the following individuals have been arrested and charged in connection to this investigation.

Kyle VARTIAINEN 33 years of Midland has been charged criminally with:

  • Possession Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000 – in Canada
  • Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of Firearm (two counts)

And Further With

  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance- Cocaine contrary to the Controlled Drug and Substances Act.

Peter Alfred NORMAN 40 years of Midland has been charged criminally with:

  • Possession Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000 – in Canada
  • Unlawfully in Dwelling House
  • Theft Under $5000

Jade Marjorie BRIDEAU-PARTON 29 years of Midland has been charged criminally with:

  • Possession Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000 – in Canada

And Further With

  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance- Cocaine contrary to the Controlled Drug and Substances Act

These accused persons have been released from custody to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice  on March 20, 2025.

Also charged in connection to this investigation is Kathleen HUNT 33 years of Leamington who was arrested on November 19, 2024, on the following charges relating to this investigation and further related investigations.

  • Trafficking in property obtained by crime
  • Break & Enter a place and steal a firearm
  • Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of Firearm (three counts)
  • Theft Over $5000
  • Possession Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000 – in Canada
  • Forgery (two counts)
  • Use, deals, acts on forged document (two counts)

And Further arrested and charged on February 6, 2025 with the offences of

  • Break, Enter a place – commit indictable offence
  • Uttering Threats – Cause death or Bodily Harm
  • Trafficking in property obtained by crime (two counts)

The accused remains in custody and will appear before the Ontario Court of Justice  at a future date.

Codie HALL – Impaired Driving

(TINY TOWNSHIP, ON) –  An overnight two vehicle crash investigation on Champlain Road at the intersection of the 16th Concession Road of Tiny Township has led to criminal charges for a Tiny Township resident.

Officers from the Southern Georgian Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police responded at approximately 8:05 p.m. February 6, 2025 to a report of the crash and upon speaking with the involved drivers, an impaired driving investigation was commenced upon the at fault driver.

As a result of this investigation and a further investigation, 37 year old Codie HALL has been charged with the following offences.

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Dangerous operation
  • Failure to comply with undertaking (three counts)

The accused was held for a bail hearing and will appear before the Ontario Court of Justice  at a future date and was also served a 90 day drivers licence suspension with the involved vehicle being also subject to a 7 day vehicle impound in accordance to the Ministry of Transportation (ADLS) guidelines.

James SZEMAN – Drunk Driving

(TINY TOWNSHIP, ON) –  A traffic stop for a cellphone infraction leading to an impaired driving investigation has resulted in a number of charges for a Blue Mountains resident.

An officer from the Southern Georgian Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) made the vehicle stop on Simcoe County Road 6, Tiny Township at approximately 11:05 a.m. December 31, 2024 and while speaking to the lone driver about the infraction observed signs to cause the officer to enter into an impaired driving investigation.

A further investigation at detachment has resulted in the following criminal charges for James SZEMAN, a 57 year old resident of the The Blue Mountains.

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

And further with Provincial Offences of

  • Drive – hand held communication device
  • Drive motor vehicle, no currently validated permit
  • Drive commercial motor vehicle – no licence
  • Fail to surrender permit for motor vehicle
  • Operate a motor vehicle without insurance

The accused was released from custody to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice  at a future date, and was also served a 90 day drivers licence suspension. The involved vehicle was towed and subject to a 7 day vehicle impound in accordance to the Ministry of Transportation (ADLS) guidelines.

60 Year Old Facing Drunk Driving Charge – Name Released

(TINY TOWNSHIP, ON) –  An officer from the Southern Georgian Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) while on patrol in Balm Beach, Tiny Township stopped a 1973 Chevrolet pick up on the Balm Beach Road near Lesperance Road at approximately 2:39 p.m. December 29, 2024.

The officer conducted a safety inspection of the vehicle and entered into an impaired driving investigation upon speaking with the lone driver.

As a result of the investigation, Alfred SCHERER 60 years of Tiny Township has been charged criminally with the following offences.

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

And further with

  • Operate unsafe vehicle contrary to the Highway Traffic Act

The accused was released from custody to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice  on the January 9, 2025, and was also served a 90 day drivers licence suspension. Firey Snowmobile Collision With Barn & Parked Van

(TINY TOWNSHIP, ON) A snowmobile operator is facing impaired driving charges after a crash in Tiny Township late last evening.

On December 12, 2024 at 11:40pm, members of the Southern Georgian Bay detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police(OPP) were notified by the Tiny Township Fire Department of a snowmobile fire on Concession 17 West in Tiny Township. Upon arrival officers located a burned snowmobile which had collided with a parked van and a barn. There was no operator in the vicinity however officers followed footprints in the snow to a nearby home.

At the residence, officers spoke with an individual and determined that they had been operating the snowmobile. During the conversation, officers also noted the signs of alcohol impairment. The individual was placed under arrest and transported to detachment to provide breath samples however, they refused.

As a result of this investigation, Alcime MAURICE, 43 years of Tiny Township was charged with the following offence contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada:

  • Failure or Refusal to Comply with Demand

The accused was released on an undertaking to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Midland on January 2, 2025. When charged with impaired driving the driver’s licence of the accused is immediately suspended for 90 days and the vehicle they were operating is impounded for 7 days.

Varchas SRIRANGAM – Hit & Run, Drunk Driving

(TINY TOWNSHIP, ON) – While travelling along Champlain Road in Tiny Township on Sunday December 1, 2024, at approximately 2:51 a.m. a community member came upon a single vehicle crash of a Tesla into a utility pole at the intersection of the 17th Concession Road.

A call was placed to the OPP Communication Centre, and officers from Southern Georgian Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) attended to investigate. The lone occupant was located and upon speaking with the uninjured driver, an impaired driving investigation was commenced by the officers.

As a result, Varchas SRIRANGAM 37 years of Tiny Township has been charged criminally in connection to this investigation with the following offences.

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

And further with the Provincial Offences of

  • Fail to remain
  • Fail to report accident

The accused was released from custody to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice  on the December 19, 2024, and was served a 90 day drivers licence suspension. The involved Tesla was towed and is the subject of a 7 day vehicle impound in accordance to the Ministry of Transportation (ADLS) guidelines.

Since the Festive R.I.D.E kick off on November 21, 2024, officers have conducted the R.I.D.E. program at fifty five separate locations stopped over 746 vehicles checking their drivers for signs of impairment.

Although the OPP runs its annual Festive RIDE campaign during the holiday season, RIDE spot checks are conducted throughout the year, 24/7. The OPP remains committed to taking alcohol/drug-impaired drivers off our roads through enforcement and public education. If you know or suspect that a driver is impaired by alcohol or drugs, call 9-1-1. In doing so, you may save a life.  The OPP reminds motorists to plan ahead and to use a designated driver, cab, public transit, or stay overnight. Any amount of alcohol or drugs can impact your ability to make sound judgements. Enforcement and education is essential to save lives and reduce injuries on our trails, roadways and waterways.
