One Dead, Michel DENAULT-CHARTRAND Charged

(SOUTH STORMONT TWP, ON) – The driver of a car, involved in a fatal collision with a motorcycle last fall, northwest of Winchester, is facing charges.

The crash, involving a car and motorcycle, happened on Friday, September 13, 2024, shortly after 6:00 a.m., on Bank Street/County Road 31 near Cloverdale Road. Both vehicles were northbound at the time.

The motorcycle rider, a 31-year-old man from Winchester, was transported to a local hospital and then transported by Air ORNGE to a regional trauma centre. The victim was pronounced deceased in hospital shortly before 6:00 p.m. that evening. The driver of the car was not physically injured.

AS a result of the investigation, Michel DENAULT-CHARTRAND, age 35 of Brinston, has been charged with dangerous operation of a vehicle causing death.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Morrisburg on September 2, 2025.

Fatal Motorcycle Collision – One Charged

(SOUTH STORMONT TWP, ON) – The driver of a car, involved in a fatal collision with a motorcycle last fall, northwest of Winchester, is facing charges.

Fourth Scuba Diver Found Deceased

(SOUTH STORMONT TOWNSHIP, ON) – A scuba diver that went missing in the water off the Long Sault Parkway has been located deceased. 

On April 23, 2025, at about 7:45 p.m., Stormont, Dundas & Glengarry (SD&G) OPP officers and South Stormont Fire Services responded to Loch 21, Long Sault Parkway for a missing diver. Four divers entered the water but only three resurfaced.

Additional resources were deployed to assist with the search efforts, including Akwesasne Mohawk Police Service, Hogansburg Akwesasne Volunteer Fire Department, Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) and St. Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department.

On April 24, 2024, around 11:30 a.m., SD&G OPP, assisted by the OPP Underwater Search and Recovery Unit (USRU), located and recovered the body of the missing diver. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.

14 Year Old Killed – 46 Year Old Arrested

(SOUTH STORMONT TWP, ON) – A driver has now been charged in connection with a collision last summer which resulted in the death of a 14-year-old cyclist.

On the afternoon of Friday, August 30, 2024, the teenager had been riding eastbound on the paved, westbound shoulder of County Road 2, in South Stormont Township, west of Long Sault, when she was struck by a westbound car.

Officers with the Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry (SD&G) Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), the South Stormont Fire Department and Cornwall SDG Paramedics responded to the collision. Life saving measures were attempted but the young woman was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The investigation by SD&G OPP, with assistance from OPP Collision Reconstructionists and Technical Collision Investigators has now been completed.

Karen BRENNAN, age 46 of Ingleside, has been charged under the Highway Traffic Act with careless driving causing death. The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cornwall on March 18, 2025.

LACELLE Was Arrested


(SOUTH STORMONT TWP., ON)- The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) East Region Community Street Crime Unit has charged one individual with stolen property and firearms offences.  

On Friday, January 17, 2025, the Street Crime Unit, with the assistance of the East Region Tactics and Rescue Unit, Repeat Offender Parole Enforcement (ROPE) Squad, Emergency Response Team and members of the SD&G OPP Detachment, executed a warrant at a residence on Sandtown Road in South Stormont. Investigators recovered stolen property and firearms, and one individual was arrested.

Robert LACELLE, age 40 of North Dundas was charged with:

  • Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000
  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000
  • Careless storage of a firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition – six counts
  • Obstruct a peace officer

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cornwall on February 20, 2025.

Fatal Motorcycle Collision

The crash, involving a car and motorcycle happened on Friday, September 13, 2024, shortly after 6:00 a.m., on Bank Street/County Road 31 near Cloverdale Road, northwest of Winchester. Both vehicles were northbound at the time.

The motorcycle rider, a 31-year-old man from Winchester, was transported to a local hospital and then transported by Air ORNGE to a regional trauma centre. The victim was pronounced deceased in hospital shortly before 6:00 p.m. that evening.

The driver of the car was not physically injured.

SD&G OPP is continuing to investigate the collision, with assistance from an OPP Collision Reconstructionist and Technical Collision Investigators.

14 Year Old Cyclist Dead After Being Run Down On Shoulder Of Road

(SOUTH STORMONT TWP, ON) – A 14-year-old girl has died after a collision between her bicycle and a car in South Stormont Township.

Officers with the Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry (SD&G) Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), the South Stormont Fire Department and Cornwall SDG Paramedics responded to the collision on County Road 2, west of Long Sault, shortly before 3:30 p.m. on Friday, August 30, 2024.

When officers arrived, they found off-duty firefighters and others attempting life-saving measures on the victim, but the teenager was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The initial investigation has found that the young woman, a resident of South Stormont, had been riding her bicycle eastbound on the westbound shoulder when she was struck by a westbound car.

The driver of the car was not physically injured.

County Road 2 was closed for several hours but reopened overnight.

SD&G OPP is continuing to investigate the collision, with assistance from OPP Collision Reconstructionists and Technical Collision Investigators.
