Brody PETERS – Drunk Driving

(SCHREIBER, ON) – A 19-year-old individual from Terrace Bay is facing charges of impaired operation resulting from a motor vehicle collision (MVC).

On November 13, 2024, at approximately 1:00 a.m., members of the Schreiber Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a single motor vehicle collision on Highway 17 near Sunset Drive in the Town of Schreiber.

As a result of the investigation, Brody PETERS, 19-years-old, of Terrace Bay has been criminally charged with:

  • Operation While Impaired – Alcohol and Drugs
  • Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 Plus)

The Accused received a 90-day Administrative Drivers Licence Suspension (ADLS) and a 7-day Vehicle Impoundment.

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Thunder Bay.

Lee BOUTILIER Was Arrested

(SCHREIBER, ON) – Schreiber Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) recovered a stolen tractor trailer unit.

On August 26, 2024 approximately 11:00am officers from the Schreiber OPP were contacted by a trucking company as one of their tractor trailers were stolen from Saskatchewan over the weekend. The companies GPS showed the vehicle on Lakeshore Road, near Schreiber. Officers located the parked tractor trailer with the driver inside, the lone male was arrested without incident.

The driver, Lee BOUTILIER, 41 years of Red Deer, Alberta has been charged under the Criminal Code (CC) with;

–       Possession of Property Obtained by Crime – Over $5,000, Sec 355(a)CC

He is being held in custody, awaiting a bail hearing in the Ontario Court of Justice.

Johanne DESAULNIERS Was Arrested

(SCHREIBER, ON) – On August 8th, 2024, at approximately 7:24 p.m., a member of the Schreiber Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Detachment was on general patrol & initiated a traffic stop on a passenger vehicle travelling along Terrace Heights Drive within the Township of Terrace Bay.

Through the investigation, the driver was subsequently placed under arrest after refusing to provide subsequent breath samples into an approved screening device (ASD).

As a result, Johanne DESAULNIERS, 69-years-old, of Terrace Bay, has been arrested and charged under the Criminal Code and Highway Traffic Act with:

·       Failure or refusal to comply with demand

The accused has been released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Thunder Bay on September 26th, 2024.

Christopher SMITH Was Arrested Again

(SCHREIBER, ON) – A traffic complaint has led to drug charges being laid.

On June 6, 2024, shortly before 10:00 p.m., members of the Schreiber Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a traffic complaint at a local gas station of a suspected impaired driver.

Through investigation, officers located illicit substances believed to be crack cocaine. The driver was subsequently placed under arrest and transported to the Nipigon OPP Detachment for further testing.

As a result, Christopher SMITH, 45-years-old, of South Stormont Township, has been arrested and charged under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act and Criminal Code with:

·        Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Cocaine

·        Failure or Refusal to Comply with Demand

·        Failure to Comply with Release Order

The accused is being held in custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Nipigon at a later date.

Frank COMMISSO – Drugs & Firearms

(SCHREIBER, ON) – One individual is facing multiple charges after a drug trafficking investigation in Schreiber. 

Members of the Organized Crime Enforcement Bureau (OCEB) of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Schreiber, and Nipigon OPP Detachments, Northwest Region Intelligence Unit with the assistance of the Provincial Operations Intelligence Unit (POIB) and the Nishnawbe-Aski Police Service Intelligence Unit conducted a three-month investigation dubbed “Project Plateau”. The investigation focused on drug trafficking in the communities of Schreiber and Terrace Bay.

On April 302024, and May 1, 2024, OCEB, POIB, NAPS, Nipigon and Schreiber OPP, OPP Northwest Region Emergency Response Team and OPP Northwest Region K9 Unit conducted a search warrant in the Town of Schreiber on Centennial drive.

As a result of the investigation, Frank COMMISSO, 54-years-old of Schreiber, is now charged with:

·      Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine

·      Possession of Proceeds of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000 – In Canada

·      Careless Storage of Firearm, Weapon, Prohibited Device or Ammunition

·      Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm

As a result of the investigation police seized 1262 grams of suspected cocaine, firearms, and Canadian Currency. The approximate street value of the drugs seized is $126,200.00.

The accused is being held in custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on May 2, 2024.
