5 More Impaired Drivers Arrested

(QUINTE WEST, ON) – The Quinte West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has laid charges in five more impaired driving investigations.

On Friday, August 22, 2025, at approximately 7:45 p.m., a traffic stop on Frankford Road led to an investigation where an ASD was used, resulting in the arrest of the driver for being impaired as well as other offences. The driver was transported to the detachment for further testing.

William BERTRAND, age 53, from Quinte West, was charged with the following offences:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Driving motor vehicle with open container of liquor
  • Careless driving

On Friday, August 22, 2025, at approximately 8:15 p.m., officers responded to an incident on Bay Street, leading to an investigation where an ASD was used, resulting in the arrest of the driver for being impaired. The driver was transported to the detachment for further testing.

Kevin ROSA, age 48, from Quinte West, was charged with the following offences:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Driver fail to surrender licence
  • Having care or control of a motor vehicle with liquor readily available

On Saturday, August 23, 2025, at approximately 3:15 a.m., officers with the Quinte West OPP, responded to a traffic complaint on the 401 Westbound leading to suspect a motorist may have been under the influence of alcohol. The driver was arrested and transported to the Quinte West Detachment for testing.

Baljinder GILL, age 46, from Brampton was charged with the following offences:

  • Failure or refusal to comply with demand
  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • Dangerous operation
  • Drive vehicle or boat with cannabis readily available

On Monday, August 25, 2025, at approximately 12:45 a.m., officers with the Quinte West OPP, conducted a RIDE program at the 401 Eastbound On Route resulting in the arrest of a driver for being impaired.

Terry SINCLAIR, age 42, from Kingston, was charged with the following offences:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • Possession of a schedule I substance – Methamphetamine
  • Operation while impaired – combined blood alcohol and blood drug concentration
  • Have care or control of vehicle or boat with cannabis readily available
  • Possess unmarked cigarettes
  • Class G1 licence holder – unaccompanied by qualified driver
  • Class G1 licence holder – drive on prohibited highway
  • Class G1 licence holder – drive at unlawful hour

On Monday, August 25, 2025, at approximately 11:00 p.m., officers with the Quinte West OPP, investigated a single vehicle collision on the 401 Eastbound, leading to suspect a motorist may have been under the influence of alcohol. An Approved Screening Device (ASD) was utilized, resulting in the arrest of a driver for being impaired. The driver was transported to the detachment for further testing.

Mackenzie RIPLEY, age 21, from Cobourg was charged with the following offences:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • Novice driver – B.A.C. above zero

All the accused were released from custody and are scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Belleville on a later date. Additionally, the vehicles they were operating were impounded for seven days, and their licences suspended for 90 days.

$114,000 Drug Bust – CORONA, BAUTISTA & ABDULLAH

(QUINTE WEST, ON) – Four people have been arrested during a traffic stop on Highway 401.

On Sunday, August 11, 2025, at approximately 9:00 a.m., the Quinte West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) conducted a traffic stop on Highway 401 between Highway 33 and Glen Miller Road in Quinte West. 

As a result of the investigation, police seized over a kilogram of suspected cocaine, an amount of suspected cannabis and Percocet with an estimated street value of approximately $114,000. Police also seized over $7,500 in Canadian currency.

Four people have been arrested and charged.

Justin CORONA, 23 years-old, of Nepean has been charged with the following:

  • Obstruct peace officer
  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – cocaine
  • Operation while impaired – drugs
  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000
  • Flight from peace officer
  • Possession of 30g dried cannabis in a public place
  • Drive with window coated – obstructed view
  • Drive motor vehicle with cannabis readily available

Lee BAUTISTA, 24 years-old and Fercival GARCIA, 27 years-old, of Gloucester have both been charged with the following:

  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – cocaine
  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000
  • Obstruct peace officer

Hassan ABDULLAH, 32 years-old, of Gloucester has been charged with the following:

  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – cocaine
  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000.

The accused remain in custody pending a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice in Belleville.

Andrew MANCINI Was Arrested – Meth A Factor

(QUINTE WEST, ON) – The Quinte West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has laid charges in an impaired driving investigation.

On July 23, 2025, at approximately 9:00 p.m., a traffic complaint on Monogram Place, Quinte West, led Quinte West OPP to suspect a motorist may have been impaired.

The driver was arrested and transported to the Quinte West Detachment, where charges were laid.

Andrew MANCINI , age 36, from Brighton, was charged with the following offences:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • Operation while impaired – blood drug concentration
  • Possession of a schedule I substance – Methamphetamine

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Belleville on August 11, 2025. Additionally, the vehicle was impounded for seven days, and their licence suspended for 90 days.

Alexandra MACKAY – Drunk Driving

(QUINTE WEST, ON) – A Quinte West resident is facing multiple charges after being stopped on Highway 401.

On Monday, July 21, 2025, just before 7:00 p.m., an officer with the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Highway Safety Division’s Traffic Incident Management Enforcement (TIME) team detected an eastbound car traveling at 177 kilometres per hour.

The vehicle was pulled over and an approved alcohol screening device was utilized. As a result, the driver was arrested and transported to the Quinte West Detachment for further testing.

Alexandra MACKAY, age 31, has been charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol
  • Operation while impaired-blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Stunt driving – excessive speed

The accused was release from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Belleville on August 14, 2025.

The individual’s licence has been suspended for 90 days, and the car was impounded for 14 days.

The Highway Safety Division was assisted in the investigation by officers with the Quinte West OPP.

Steven COURNEYEA – Drunk Driving

(QUINTE WEST, ON) – The Quinte West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has laid charges in an impaired driving investigation.

On July 20, 2025, at approximately 12:15 a.m., a traffic complaint on County Road 40, led Quinte West OPP to suspect a motorist may have been under the influence of alcohol.

The driver was arrested and transported to the Quinte West Detachment for testing, as a result of which charges were laid.

Steven COURNEYEA , age 55, from Tyendinaga, was charged with the following offences:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Belleville on August 7, 2025. Additionally, the vehicle was impounded for seven days, and their licence suspended for 90 days.

Dylon SMITH-AWEDA Was Arrested Again

(QUINTE WEST, ON) – The Quinte West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged an individual with drug related and other offences, following an investigation in Quinte West.

On Friday, July 18, 2025, at approximately 12:00 p.m., Officers with the Quinte West OPP, the OPP Emergency Response Team, OPP Canine Unit and Belleville Police Service (BPS) arrested an individual at the Quinte Mall, in the City of Belleville, stemming from an incident that occurred in Quinte West. As a result, cash, Fentanyl, Xannax, a forged document and an unauthorized weapon were confiscated.

Dylon SMITH-AWEDA, 26 years old from Quebec, was charged with the following:

  • Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of Weapon
  • Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5000 – in Canada
  • Traffick in Schedule I substance – Opioid (other than heroin)
  • Traffick in Schedule IV substance – Other Drugs
  • Possession of a forged document with intent
  • Fail to Comply with Probation Order x5

The accused remains in custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Belleville on July 23, 2025

4 Injured – Lin-zee JENSEN-GIESBRECHT Arrested

(QUINTE WEST, ON) – The Quinte West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has laid charges as a result of a serious collision that occurred last month.

On Monday, June 16, 2025, at approximately 11:00 a.m., officers with Quinte West OPP, Quinte West OPP Crime Unit and Quinte West Firefighters responded to a multiple vehicle collision on Hamilton Road in Quinte West.

A driver of one of the vehicles was transported to hospital with serious injuries. Three other individuals sustained minor injuries.

Lin-zee JENSEN-GIESBRECHT, age 41, from Quinte West, was charged with the following offences:

·        Dangerous Operation causing bodily harm

·        Dangerous operation

·        Drive left of centre – approaching crest of grade

The accused remains in custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Belleville on July 24, 2025

More Impaired Drivers Arrested – RYAN, RIGHTMEYER & CHERRETT

(QUINTE WEST, ON) – The Quinte West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has laid charges in three more impaired driving investigations.

On Friday, July 11, 2025, at approximately 4:15 p.m., officers were responding to a traffic complaint on Johnstown Road, Quinte West. The driver of the vehicle was arrested for being impaired and transported to the detachment for further testing.

Marie RYAN, age 66, from Quinte West, was charged with the following offences:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

On Saturday, July 12, 2025, at approximately 1:30 a.m., officers with the Quinte West OPP, investigated a single vehicle collision on Loyalist Parkway, Quinte West, leading to suspect a motorist may have been under the influence of alcohol. An Approved Screening Device (ASD) was utilized, resulting in the arrest of a driver for being impaired. The driver was transported to the detachment for further testing.

Carter RIGHTMEYER, age 19, from Quinte West was charged with the following offences:

  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • Fail to remain
  • Young driver – B.A.C. above zero
  • Fail to have insurance card

On Sunday, July 13, 2025, at approximately 10:15 p.m., officers with the Quinte West OPP, investigated a collision on North Murray Street, Quinte West, resulting in the arrest of a driver for being impaired.

Dallas CHERRETT, age 29, from Trenton, was charged with the following offence:

  • Failure or refusal to comply with demand

All the accused were released from custody and are scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Belleville on a later date. Additionally, the vehicles they were operating were impounded for seven days, and their licences suspended for 90 days.

Ryan LINDSAY – Impaired Driving

(QUINTE WEST, ON) – The Quinte West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged a driver with both suspended and impaired driving following a traffic stop.

On Thursday, July 10, 2025, at approximately 7:30 p.m., Quinte West OPP conducted a traffic stop of a vehicle on Front Street, Trenton.

During the investigation, a suspended driver was arrested for being impaired. The driver was subsequently transported to the detachment for further testing.

As a result of the investigation, charges were laid under the Criminal Code (CC), the Highway Traffic Act (HTA) and the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA).

Ryan LINDSAY, 23 years old, from Quinte West, was charged with the following offences:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • Possession of a Schedule 1 Substance – Cocaine
  • Driving while under suspension x2

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Belleville on July 31, 2025. Additionally, the vehicle was impounded for seven days, and their licence suspended for 90 days.

(QUINTE WEST, ON) – The Quinte West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has laid charges in 3 more impaired driving investigations.

On Tuesday, July 8, 2025, at approximately 3:30 a.m., officers were conducting a RIDE program on Loyalist Parkway, where an Approved Screening Device (ASD) was utilized, resulting in the arrest of a novice driver for being impaired. The driver was transported to the detachment for further testing.

Hannah BANVILLE, age 23, from Carrying Place, was charged with the following offences:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Novice Driver – B.A.C above zero

On Wednesday, July 9, 2025, at approximately 9:45 p.m., a traffic stop on the 401 led to an investigation where an ASD was used, resulting in the arrest of the driver for being impaired as well as other offences. The driver was transported to the detachment for further testing.

Giovanni WATSON, age 28, from Bowmanville was charged with the following offences:

  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Speeding 1-49 Km/h over posted speed limit.
  • Driver – fail to properly wear seat belt.
  • Driving motor vehicle with liquor readily available

On Wednesday, July 9, 2025, at approximately 11:30 p.m., Officers with the Quinte West OPP, investigated a collision leading to suspect a motorist may have been under the influence of alcohol.

With the assistance of the OPP Emergency Response Unit and OPP Canine Unit, the driver was arrested and transported to the Quinte West Detachment for testing, resulting in charges being laid.

Becky STYLES, age 54, from Carrying Place, was charged with the following offences:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Driving motor vehicle with liquor readily available
  • Fail to report accident

All the accused were released from custody and are scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Belleville on July 31, 2025. Additionally, the vehicles they were operating were impounded for seven days, and their licences suspended for 90 days.

FFS! More Impaired Drivers Arrested #SickOfIt

(QUINTE WEST, ON) – Members of the Quinte West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) laid charges for three separate impaired driving investigations over the weekend.

On Saturday, July 5, 2025, at approximately 7:30 p.m., officers were conducting a RIDE program on Loyalist Parkway, where a suspended driver was arrested for being impaired. The driver was subsequently transported to detachment for further testing.

Alyssia PRESSICK, age 34, from Quinte West, was charged with the following offences:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Driving while under suspension
  • Novice Driver – B.A.C above zero

At the same RIDE program, shortly after 8:00 p.m., officers utilized an Approved Screening Device (ASD). The driver was arrested and transported to detachment for further testing.

Courtney POTHIERS, age 31, from Toronto, was charged with the following offences:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

On Sunday, July 6, 2025, at approximately 8:00 p.m., officers were conducting another RIDE program on Loyalist Parkway where an ASD was utilized, resulting in the driver being arrested and transported to detachment for further testing.

Michael CAMPBELL, age 35, from Prince Edward County, was charged with the following offences:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

All the accused were released from custody and are scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Belleville at a future date. Additionally, the vehicles they were operating were impounded for seven days, and their licenses were suspended for 90 days.

So far in 2025, Quinte West OPP have arrested and charged 82 individuals for impaired driving.

The financial cost of impaired driving in Ontario can range from $20,000 to $40,000 over a three or four-year period for a first-time conviction. This includes immediate penalties like fines and vehicle impoundment, as well as long-term expenses such as increased insurance premiums and the cost of mandatory programs like ignition interlock. 

A breakdown of the costs:

Immediate Costs:

  • Fines: A minimum fine of $1,000 for a first offense, and potentially higher for subsequent offenses. 
  • Licence Suspension: A 90-day administrative license suspension for a first offense, and a one-year post-conviction license suspension (reduced to 3 or 6 months in some cases). 
  • Vehicle Impoundment: 7-day administrative vehicle impoundment for a first offense, followed by a minimum of 45-day impoundment after conviction. 
  • Administrative Penalties: $550 administrative penalty, $281 license reinstatement fee. 
  • Impoundment Fees: A minimum of $1,800+ for impoundment fees. 
  • Legal Fees: $3,500 – $4,000 for a plea or withdrawal, and $6,000+ for a trial
  • This doesn’t not include the cost of interlock installed and removed from your vehicle and the increased cost of insurance premiums, if you are even able to get insurance.

Fatal E-Scooter Collision

(QUINTE WEST, ON) – The operator of an e-scooter has died following a collision in Quinte West.

On Tuesday, July 1, 2025, at approximately 10:30 p.m., officers from the Quinte West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and Hastings Quinte EMS responded to a collision involving a passenger vehicle and an e-scooter on Stockdale Road, Quinte West.

The 36-year-old operator of the e-scooter was transported to hospital with life-threatening injuries and was later pronounced deceased.     

OPP Technical Collision Investigators attended the scene and continue to assist with the ongoing investigation.

Indignity To Dead Body – Shannon BROOKS Arrested Again

(QUINTE WEST, ON) – Members of the Quinte West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are seeking the public’s assistance in a death investigation in the City of Quinte West.

On Thursday, August 15, 2024, at approximately 10:00 a.m., officers with the Quinte West OPP, Quinte West OPP Crime Unit, OPP Forensic Identification Services, Quinte West Fire and Hastings-Quinte Paramedic Services attended a residence on Westmount Court, where a 49-year-old male from Quinte West was located deceased.

On Thursday, May 22, 2025, following a lengthy investigation, Shannon BROOKS, 36 years old of Quinte West, was arrested with the assistance of the Belleville Police Service Emergency Response Unit, and charged with the following Criminal Code (CC) offences:

  • Indignity to dead body – section 182(b)
  • Theft of credit card – section 342(1)(a)
  • Possession property obtained by crime under $5,000 – section 354(1)(a)
  • Possession of a credit card – section 342(1)(c)

In relation to separate investigations, the accused was also charged with the following CC offences:

  • Operation while prohibited – section 320.18 (1)(a)
  • Fail to comply with probation order – section 733.1(1) – three counts

The investigation continues under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch, in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service.

Austin LLOYD Facing Numerous Charges Following Firearm Incident

(QUINTE WEST, ON) – The Quinte West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has laid charges following an incident involving a firearm in Trenton.

On May 19, 2025 at approximately 11:30 a.m., Officers with the Quinte West OPP and OPP Canine Unit responded to a report of an assault at a residence on Trenton Street, Quinte West. Police received information that an individual had entered a residence and assaulted the occupants brandishing a firearm. Only minor injuries were sustained in this incident.

An investigation conducted by Quinte West OPP and the Quinte West Criminal Investigation Unit (CIU) led to the arrest of a 29-year-old from Quinte West on May 23, 2025.

Austin LLOYD, 29-years-old, from Quinte West, has been charged with the following offences:

  • Pointing a Firearm x2
  • Unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm
  • Assault with a Weapon x2
  • Uttering Threats – Cause death or Bodily Harm x2
  • Failure to comply with undertaking
  • Fail to Comply with Probation Order
  •  Possession of Weapon for dangerous Purpose
  • Carrying concealed weapon
  • Possession of Firearm or Ammunition contrary to Prohibition Order x2
  • Assault

The accused is being held in custody pending a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice in Belleville.

14 Year Old Repeat Offender Arrested Following Car Fire

(QUINTE WEST, ON) – The Quinte West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has arrested and charged an individual in connection with a fully engulfed stolen vehicle on the 401.

On May 15, 2025, at approximately 7:15 a.m. Officers with the Quinte West OPP, the OPP Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement Team (TIME) and Quinte West Fire were dispatched to a vehicle that was fully engulfed in flame on the Eastbound shoulder of the 401 at mile marker 517. There were no individuals in the vehicle or at the scene. An investigation revealed the vehicle had been stolen from the Durham Region earlier.

As a result of the investigation, a 14-year-old from Oshawa has been charged with:

·        Theft of a Motor Vehicle

·        Failure to comply with Release Order – other than to attend court

·        Failure to comply with Undertaking

·        Failure to comply with Probation Order x2

·        Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000

The name of the accused cannot be released under the terms of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
