Dana STEVENS – Threats, Possession Of Weapon

(SAUGEEN FIRST NATION, ON) – On January 23, 2021 at 1:24 a.m. officers from the Grey Bruce Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a threats occurrence at a residence on Highway 21, in the Saugeen First Nation.    

A suspect had threatened a victim, after brandishing a knife, before running off. The suspect was located near the scene and was arrested without incident. There were no injuries.

As a result of the investigation, Grey Bruce OPP have charged Dana STEVENS, 41 years-of-age, from Saugeen First Nation with the following offences:

  •  Uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm, section 264.1(1)(a) Criminal Code of Canada (CCC)
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, section 88 CCC
  • Possession of a Schedule 1 substance – Opioid, section 4(1) Controlled Drugs and Substance Act

The accused was held for a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice in Walkerton on January 24, 2021.

Kristen CHARETTE – Drunk Driving

(GREY HIGHLANDS, ON) – On January 20, 2021 at 3:40 a.m. Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a traffic complaint involving a possible impaired driver on Allenford Road, near Golden Pond Drive, in the Town of South Bruce Peninsula.

OPP officers located this vehicle and spoke with the driver, who failed a roadside screening device. The driver was arrested and transported to the Grey Bruce OPP detachment in Wiarton. A breath test recorded readings over the legal limit of 80 milligrams (mgs) of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood. 

Grey Bruce OPP have charged Kristen CHARETTE, 31 years-of-age, from South Bruce Peninsula, with operation of a motor vehicle while impaired by alcohol, section 320.14(1)(a) Criminal Code of Canada (CCC) and operation while impaired with blood alcohol concentration 80 mgs or more, section 320.14(1)(b) CCC.

The accused’s driver’s licence is suspended for 90 days and the vehicle they were operating was towed and impounded for seven days.

The accused must attend the Ontario Court of Justice in Owen Sound on March 4, 2021.

18 Year Old Arrested In Clinton Facing Impaired By Drug Charge

(CENTRAL HURON, ON) – A novice driver from Clinton is facing an impaired driving charge following a traffic stop conducted by Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) last night in Clinton. 

Shortly after 10:00 p.m. on January 25, 2021 a Huron County OPP officer stopped a vehicle with no rear lights that was travelling northbound on Albert Street. Upon stopping the motor vehicle the investigating officer noted the driver to be exhibiting signs of impairment. As such a Standard Field Sobriety Test (SFST) was conducted on the driver and the driver performed poorly on the test.

The driver was subsequently placed under arrest and was transported to the Huron OPP Detachment where he performed further testing conducted by a Drug Recognition Evaluator (DRE). Upon completion of the testing the driver was deemed to be impaired by a drug. 

A search of the motor vehicle was also conducted which resulted in police seizing a prohibited weapon (knife) and a quantity of cannabis. 

Austin PASSMORE, 18 years of age from Clinton has been charged with Operation While Impaired, Possession of a Prohibited Device, Drive Motor Vehicle With Cannabis Readily Available and Drive Without Proper Rear Light.

The accused has since been released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for March 29, 2021 at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich.

Victim Assaulted During Break & Enter – Suspect At Large

(TOWN OF ERIN, ON) – On January 23, 2021, at approximately 2:00 p.m. members of the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of an assault in progress on Ninth Line in the Town of Erin.

It was reported that the victim had just arrived at their home when they observed an unknown male suspect exiting an unlocked basement door. The victim was assaulted after confronting the suspect. The victim received minor injuries.

The suspect was last observed getting into a dark-coloured sedan which last seen travelling southbound on Ninth Line towards Tenth Side Road in Erin.

The suspect is described as male, early 20’s with a dark complexion, 6 feet tall with a thin build. He was wearing a blue “puffer” jacket and black track pants.

OPP are asking the public for their assistance in identifying the suspect involved in this incident. Police are interested in speaking with anyone who may have been in the area with dashcam footage.

Listowel Break & Enter – RUSHTON & RUSHTON

(NORTH PERTH, ON) – Two people have been charged for breaking and entering following an incident in Municipality of North Perth.

On January 17 2021, just before 4:00 a.m., the Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of a break and enter in progress at business on Bright Street East, Listowel. Three suspects had broken into a fenced in storage yard at the business.

Police arrived on scene moments later, and one male suspect fled the scene on a bicycle. Another suspect was arrested after a brief foot chase, and one was located hiding in the storage yard.

As a result, Jeremy RUSHTON, 36, of No Fixed Address, has been charged with:

  • Break, Enter a place – With Intent to Commit Indictable Offence
  • Mischief Over $5000

And, Terry RUSHTON, 64, of No Fixed Address, has been charged with:

  • Break, Enter a place – With Intent to Commit Indictable Offence
  • Possession Break in Instruments
  • Mischief Over $5000

The accused parties were released from custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Stratford at a later date to answer to the charges.

McCLINCHEY – Drunk Driving

(COUNTY OF WELLINGTON, ON) – On January 23, 2021, at approximately 10:00 a.m. the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to several traffic complaints involving a white snow-covered sedan being driven erratically and speeding  southbound on Highway 6 near Arthur.

Police located the vehicle on St. David Street in Fergus and conducted a traffic stop.

While speaking with the driver, officers formed the opinion that the driver was under the influence by alcohol. A Roadside Screening test was conducted which resulted in a fail. The driver was arrested and brought to a local OPP operations centre for further testing.

Cody Joseph McCLINCHEY, 25-years-old of Holland Centre has been charged with Impaired Operation – 80 Plus (mg of alcohol per 100 mL of blood) contrary to the Criminal Code.

A 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (A.D.L.S.) and 7-day Vehicle Impoundment was initiated as per statute. The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice – Guelph on February 26, 2021 to answer to the charge.

OPP Assaulted In Clinton By 56 Year Old Woman

(CENTRAL HURON, ON) – A 56-year-old from Clinton is facing three charges stemming from an incident that took place in Clinton this past weekend. 

Shortly after 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 23, 2021 Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers responded to a Princess Street West residence in Clinton to help remove a guest from the home. The accused refused to comply with the officer’s requests for her to leave the property thus it prompted the officers to effect an arrest. 

The accused proceeded to resist arrest and in the process she assaulted one of the arresting officers. 

Ann HALLEY, 56 years of age from West Grey Township has been charged with Resist Peace Officer, Assault a Peace Officer and Fail to Leave Premises When Directed. The accused has since been released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for April 12, 2021 at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich.

Drug Bust – MCNABB & MCNABB

(GEORGIAN BLUFFS, ON) – On January 22, 2021, members of the Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were assisted by members of the Grey Bruce OPP Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU), with the execution of a search warrant at a residence on Highway 6, in the Township of Georgian Bluffs.

OPP seized cocaine, heroin, psilocybin, hydrocodone, methamphetamine, other pills and a quantity of Canadian currency at the residence.

As a result of this investigation, Grey Bruce OPP have charged Nancy MCNABB, 67 years-of-age and Lucas MCNABB, 27 years-of-age, both from Georgian Bluffs, with the following offences: 

  •  Possession of a Schedule 1 substance for the purposing in trafficking – cocaine, section 5(2) Controlled Drugs and Substance Act (CDSA)
  • Possession of a Schedule 1 substance for the purposing in trafficking – heroin, section 5(2) CDSA
  • Possession of a Schedule 3 substance for the purposing in trafficking – psilocybin, section 5(2) CDSA
  • Possession of a Schedule 1 substance for the purposing in trafficking – opioid, section 5(2) CDSA
  • Possession of a Schedule 1 substance – methamphetamine, section 4(1) CDSA

Both accused must attend the Ontario Court of Justice in Owen Sound on February 25, 2021.

Road Rage Incident – Suspect Description Released

(PERTH COUNTY, ON) – The Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is investigating after an assault occurred on Highway 7, in the Township of Perth South last weekend.

On January 16 2021, just after 6:30 p.m., the Perth County OPP and Perth County Paramedic Service received a report of an assault that had just occurred after a road rage type incident. The investigation revealed that two vehicles were travelling northbound towards Stratford, when the suspect vehicle passed the victim dangerously, and then both vehicles came to a stop. During the incident, both drivers exited their vehicles, and the victim was assaulted. The victim received minor injuries as a result of the incident.

A female passenger with blond hair was observed in the vehicle. The victim was driving a silver Honda Civic and the suspect was driving an older model silver Nissan Altima or Sentra. The victim and the suspect were not known to each other.

The suspect is described as:

  • Male, Caucasian
  • Approximately 40-55 years old
  • 5’8″ to 5’11”
  • Short brown hair, with “5 o’clock shadow” facial hair
  • Wearing dark leather jacket
  • Driving older model silver Nissan Altima or Sentra

72 Year Old Arrested For Impaired Driving Near Zurich – Name Released

(BLUEWATER, ON) – A Bluewater resident is facing several charges, including Impaired Operation charges after he was stopped north of Zurich last week.

On January 22, 2021 at approximately 11:41 p.m. a Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer was patrolling northeast of Zurich when he observed a pickup truck driver fail to stop for a stop sign located at Blind Line and Kippen Road. The investigating officer followed after the suspect vehicle and was able to catch up with it when it came to a stop at a residence located on Kippen Road.

While speaking with the driver the investigating officer observed open alcohol inside the vehicle and noted the driver was displaying several signs of impairment. As a result the driver was placed under arrest for Impaired Operation and was subsequently transported to the Huron OPP detachment for breath tests. 

The driver supplied two samples of his breath to the qualified Intoxilizer Technician and both tests were found to be above the legal limit. 

Robert CARTMALE, 72 years of age from Bluewater has been charged with Impaired Operation, Impaired Operation – Blood Alcohol Concentration Over 80, Disobey Stop Sign and Drive Motor Vehicle with Open Container of Alcohol.

His motor vehicle was towed and impounded and his driver’s licence was suspended for an automatic 90 days.

Gabriella PARADIS – Methamphetamine, Property Obtained By Crime

(Southwold, ON) – On Sunday January 24th, 2021 at approximately 9:41am Elgin County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers responded to a suspicious vehicle complaint in Sheddon, ON. The report indicated that a person appeared to be sleeping in the driver’s seat of a parked vehicle.

Police attended the scene and as a result of the investigation have charged Gabriella PARADIS, age 23 of Walpole Island First Nation, ON with;

  1. Possession of Property obtained by Crime under $5000 contrary to the Criminal Code. (two counts)
  2. Possession of a schedule 1 substance (Methamphetamine) contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act Section
  3. Possession of a schedule 1 substance (Heroin) contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act Section

PARADIS was released by way of a Form 10 (Appearance Notice) with a future court date of February 23rd 2021.

Shuter Street Collision Ends With Impaired Charge For Winghamite

(NORTH HURON, ON) – A Wingham resident is facing impaired driving charges following an investigation conducted by Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) this past weekend in Wingham.

On Saturday, January 23, 2021 at approximately 12:14 p.m. Huron County OPP was notified of a crash involving the driver of a pickup truck that reversed into an unoccupied vehicle that was parked on Shuter Street. The suspect driver initially left the scene however he returned to the scene shortly thereafter where he was spoken to by police. 

Upon speaking with the driver the investigating officer made a demand for the suspect driver to provide a sample of his breath into the roadside screening device. The driver complied and registered a fail. The driver was also observed to be displaying some signs of impairment thus he was arrested for impaired operation.

The accused was subsequently transported to the Huron OPP Detachment for breath tests. Two samples of breath were supplied to the Intoxilizer Technician and both samples were found to be above the legal limit. 

William DARLING, 64 years of age from Wingham has been charged with Operation While Impaired & Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 Plus). The accused has since been released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for March 15, 2021 at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich. 

The accused’s driver’s licence has been suspended for an automatic 90 days.

GREEN Arrested For Impaired Driving In Brussels

(HURON EAST, ON) – A Morris-Turnberry resident is facing a charge of Blood Alcohol Concentration – 80 Plus following a traffic stop conducted by members of the Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Detachment last week.

On Thursday, January 21, 2021 at approximately 3:15 p.m. Huron OPP members received a complaint about a possible impaired driver operating a pickup truck. Officers immediately began patrolling for the suspect vehicle and less than 20 minutes later officers located and stopped the vehicle in Brussels.

A roadside screening device was used and the driver registered a fail. As a result he was placed under arrest and was transported to the Huron OPP Detachment for breath tests. The driver supplied two samples of his breath to the qualified Intoxilizer Technician and both tests were found to be over the legal limit. 

Kevin GREEN, 54 years of age from Morris-Turnberry has been charged with Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration – 80 Plus. He has since been released from custody with a court date scheduled for March 15, 2021 at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich.

His motor vehicle was towed and impounded and his licence has been suspended for an automatic 90 days.

27 Year Old Repeat Offender Arrested After Collision

(Central Elgin) On Saturday January 23rd, 2021 at approximately 7:56am Elgin County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers responded to a report of a single motor vehicle collision on Barnums Gully Line, Central Elgin near the end of the dead end road. Reports indicated the vehicle had flipped onto its side.

 As a result of the investigation police arrested and charged the driver of the motor vehicle, Bryor Michael KIFF, age 27, of St. Thomas, ON with;

  1.  Failing to Comply with an Undertaking contrary to the Criminal Code
  2. Operating a Motor Vehicle while Prohibited contrary to the Criminal Code. (two counts)
  3. Failing to Comply with a Release Order contrary to the Criminal Code
  4. Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000 contrary to the Criminal Code
  5. Careless Driving under the Highway Traffic Act
  6. Driving while Under Suspension contrary to the Highway Traffic Act
  7. Failing to Remain at the Scene of a Collision contrary to the Highway Traffic Act
  8. Failing to Report a Collision contrary to the Highway Traffic Act
  9. Use Plates Not Authorized for Vehicle Under the Highway Traffic Act.
  10. Fail to have Insurance Card under the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act
  11. Possess Unmarked Cigarettes Under the Tobacco Tax Act.

KIFF is scheduled to appear in court at a future date.

Fake Police Alert – Check Their ID

On January 24th, 2021, at approximately 8:35 p.m., Waterloo Regional Police received a report of suspicious persons at an apartment on Belmont Avenue West in Kitchener.

Two males attended the secured apartment complex and identified themselves as police officers to a resident to gain entry into the building. The investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at 519-570-9777 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8777. Waterloo Regional Police would like to remind the community to remain vigilant.
