Collision Sends Three To Hospital

(NORTH PERTH, ON) – Three people were taken to hospital after a collision in the Municipality of North Perth this morning.

On March 02 2021, at approximately 8:00 a.m., the Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Perth County Paramedic Services, and the North Perth Fire Department responded to a two vehicle head-on collision on Perth Road 164, between Line 87 and Line 88, just north of Listowel.

The investigation revealed that a northbound vehicle, a passenger van, lost control and entered the southbound lane, striking a Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV). The driver of the van was taken to hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries. One passenger of the van and the driver of the SUV received minor injuries. Five other occupants of the van were not injured.

Another vehicle was damaged when it swerved to avoid the collision, and entered the ditch.

As a result, Steve JONES, 42, of Trenton, has been charged with:

  • Careless Driving

The accused was issued a Provincial Offences Notice for the charge.

The Perth County OPP is reminding drivers to leave enough space between vehicles to allow for emergency situations. Check weather and road conditions prior to departing, and give yourself extra time to travel when conditions are not ideal.

Two 18 Year Olds Arrested For Weed – Names Released

(LEAMINGTON, ON) – On February 2, 2021, at approximately 11:50 p.m., members from the Leamington Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were on general patrol and conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for a stop sign offence.

Officers spoke with the driver and passenger and found evidence of an offence under the Cannabis Act. A search of the vehicle discovered several separately packaged items, including cannabis and cannabis derivatives, including edibles and shatter. Officers also seized a scale, packaging material, and a quantity of cash.

As a result of the investigation, Leah MEDCALF, 18 years of age of Leamington has been charged with the following offences:

  • Possessing Cannabis for the purpose of selling – Cannabis Act (CA)
  • Have care and control of a vehicle with cannabis readily available (CA)
  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – cocaine- contrary to Section 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA)
  • and a Highway Traffic Act (HTA) offence

Kenzin RICE, 18 years of age of Leamington, Ontario, has been charged with the following offences:

  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – cocaine -contrary to Section 5(2) of the CDSA
  • Possessing Cannabis for the Purpose of Selling – (CA)
  • Obstruct Peace Officer – Criminal Code of Canada (CC)

Both accused are scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Leamington on April 12, 2021.

Ditched Vehicle Near Brussels Leads To Impaired Charge

(MORRIS-TURNBERRY, ON) – Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has laid charges against a resident of Thamesford following a single vehicle collision north of Brussels Sunday night.

At approximately 8:50 p.m. Huron OPP officers responded to a report of a pickup truck that was in the ditch on Brussels Line near C Line Road. Shortly thereafter police arrived on scene and spoke with the uninjured driver. While speaking with the driver the investigating officer had reason to believe the driver had consumed some alcohol so a roadside test was given to the driver and he registered a fail. The driver was subsequently placed under arrest and was transported to the Huron OPP Detachment for breath tests. Two samples of breath were analyzed by the Intoxilizer Technician and both samples were found to be above the legal limit. 

Christopher TILSON, 39 years of age from Thamesford has been charged with Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration – 80 Plus, Care and Control of a Motor Vehicle with Liquor Readily Available & Care or Control of a Motor Vehicle with Cannabis Readily Available. The accused has since been released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for April 12, 2021 at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich

Drunk Driver With Blown Out Tire On Josephine St. Arrested

(NORTH HURON, ON) – Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged a Wingham resident with Impaired Operation following a traffic stop that took place in Wingham last week.

On Wednesday, February 24, 2021 at 4:47 p.m. Huron County OPP officers received a complaint of a possible impaired driver in Wingham operating a pickup truck in an erratic manner. A few minutes later a Huron OPP officer spotted the pickup truck travelling southbound on Josephine Street with one of the tires completely blown out.

A traffic stop was conducted and the while speaking with the driver the investigating officer noted the driver was displaying signs of impairment. As a result, the driver was arrested and transported to the Huron OPP Detachment for breath tests. Two samples of breath were analyzed by the Intoxilizer Technician and both samples were found to be above the legal limit.

William DARLING, 64 years of age from Wingham has been charged with Operation While Impaired & Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration 80 Plus. The driver was served with a driver’s licence suspension and his motor vehicle was towed. The accused has since been released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for April 26, 2021 at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich.

Matthew MCCARTHY – 140 in an 80

(SOUTH BRUCE PENINSULA, ON) On February 28, 2021 at 12:26 p.m. Grey Bruce OPP stopped a pick-up truck on Highway 6, near Greig Settlement Road, in South Bruce Peninsula that was travelling over 140 kilometres per hour (km/h) in this posted 80 km/h speed limit.

Grey Bruce OPP have charged Matthew MCCARTHY, 34 years-of-age, from Brantford, ON with stunt driving – 50km/h or more over the posted speed limit, contrary to section 172(1) Highway Traffic Act (HTA).

The accused was issued a provincial summons to attend court, a seven day drivers licence suspension and their vehicle was towed and will be impounded for seven days.

Alvin BESITO – Drive While Suspended & Prohibited

(SAUGEEN FIRST NATION, ON) – On February 27, 2021 at 1:54 a.m. Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a single motor vehicle collision on Bruce Road 13, near Pashwood Drive, in the Saugeen First Nation.

Offices spoke with the driver, who was currently prohibited and suspended from driving, from previous incidents.                                                                                                               

As a result of this investigation, Grey Bruce OPP have charged Alvin BESITO, 43 years-of-age, from Saugeen First Nation, with the following offences:

  • Two counts of operation while prohibited, section 320.18(1)(a) Criminal Code of Canada
  • Driving while under suspension, section 53(1) Highway Traffic Act

The accused must attend the Ontario Court of Justice in Walkerton on March 31, 2021.

Middlesex OPP Weekend Report

(MIDDLESEX, ON) – Over the course of the weekend, members of the Middlesex County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were busy during their part to keep our communities safe. 

(Thames Centre, ON) – On February 28, 2021 at 07:07a.m., Middlesex OPP observed a speeding motor vehicle, travelling in excess of the posted 100 km/h zone, on Highway 401 at Dorchester Road, Thames Center. 

Police have charged a 56-year-old driver of St.Thomas with:

  • Stunt Driving – excessive speed as per section 172 of the Highway Traffic Act.

The driver’s vehicle was impounded at the roadside and the individual’s driver’s licence was suspended for a period of 7 days.

The driver is scheduled to appear in an Ontario Provincial Traffic Court to speak to the charges.

(Thames Centre, ON) – On February 28, 2021 at 07:16 p.m., Police performed a traffic stop on Hamilton Road, Thames Center.

Upon further investigation, police determined the driver of the motor vehicle had consumed alcohol. The officer demanded that the driver provide a road-side breath sample where upon the driver registered a “FAIL”.

Andrew RIVERA, a 25-year-old from London has been charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus), section 320.14(1)(b) of the Criminal Code of Canada.
  •  Drive motor vehicle – no licence, section 32(1) of the Highway Traffic Act.

The accused is scheduled to appear in a London court room on April 1, 2021.

(Thames Centre, ON) – On March 1, 2021 at 12:13 a.m., Police were dispatched to the report of a transport truck in the ditch on Highway 401 off ramp at Dorchester Road, Thames Centre.

A 42-year-old from Caledon has been charged with:

  • Disobey sign, section 182(2) of the Highway Traffic Act
  • Backing on roadway – divided highway, section 157(1) of the Highway Traffic Act

 The driver is scheduled to appear in an Ontario Provincial Traffic Court to speak to the charges.

(Middlesex Centre, ON) – On February 27, 2021, as a result of a traffic stop for speeding on Carriage Road, Middlesex Centre, Middlesex OPP charged a 14-year-old driver from London with:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs, section 320.14(1)(a) of the Criminal Code of Canada.
  • Person under 19 years – possess cannabis, section 10(1) of the Cannabis Control Act
  • Have care or control of vehicle or boat with cannabis readily available, section 12(1) of the Cannabis Control Act.
  • Speeding 1 – 49 Km/h over posted limit, section 128 of the Highway Traffic Act.
  • Drive motor vehicle – no licence, section 32(1) of the Highway Traffic Act.

The youth has been released from police custody and is scheduled to appear in an Ontario Court of Justice on April 19, 2021 to speak to the charges.

Fake Cop On Loose Warn OPP

(MIDDLESEX, ON) – On February 28, 2021 at 12:06 p.m., members of the Middlesex County Ontario Provincial Police responded to the report of an individual impersonating a police officer.

Middlesex OPP received a complaint from a plow operator who had been stopped at the intersection of Highway 7 and Clarke Road in Middlesex Centre.

The snow plow operator was approached by an individual with the following descriptors:

  • A white male with a thin build.
  • Late 20’s or early 30’s in age.
  • With blonde hair and goatee.
  • Sleeve tattoos to the wrists in dark ink.
  • Wearing a dark t-shirt with “POLICE” in yellow lettering on the chest and three chevrons on each shoulder.

The suspect also had a radio with a microphone on his upper chest and a police-style duty belt.

The suspect’s vehicle is described as a dark-coloured SUV with red and blue flashing lights on the front grill and windshield. The vehicle did not have a front push bar, nor did it have any police service markings.

The investigation is ongoing.

The OPP wish to remind the public that citizens may ask a police officer to provide the name of their service, detachment, badge number, rank officer’s badge and warrant card. The officer should be able to provide this information without delay.

Dilpreet DHILLON – Dangerous Operation

(PLYMPTON-WYOMING, ON) – On February 26, 2021 at approximately 9:00 a.m., Lambton County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers were notified of a vehicle travelling at a high rate-of-speed on Highway 402 in the area of Warwick Township. 

Members of Lambton OPP located the westbound vehicle travelling at over 150 km/h in the 110 km/h zone prior to it exiting onto Oil Heritage Road. A traffic stop was initiated and the male driver was subsequently arrested.

As a result, Dilpreet DHILLON, 25-years-old of London has been charged with Dangerous Operation pursuant to the Criminal Code.

The accused has been released and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice-Sarnia at a later date.

Curtis HARRIS – Drunk Driving

(KINCARDINE, ON) – On February 25, 2021 at 8:11 p.m., the South Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of a possible impaired driver in the town of Kincardine. Officers located the vehicle and found that the driver had been drinking alcohol.

Curtis HARRIS, 61-years-old, of Forest, Virginia was charged with Operate over 80 milligrams. The accused is scheduled to appear in court on March 24, 2021 to answer to the charge.

This charge includes an immediate 90-day license suspension and a 7-day vehicle impoundment.

BOLO Missing OPP Breathalyzer

(KINLOSS TWP, ON) – The South Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is requesting the public’s assistance in locating a Roadside Screening Device that went missing during Motorized Snow Vehicle (MSV) patrols on February 20, 2021.

OPP operators were conducting patrols of Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs (OFSC) trails in Kinloss Township meeting other snowmobile operators and providing education on snowmobile safety throughout the day. Members of the public were extremely appreciative of police being on the trails, however on completing patrols, a Draeger Alcotest 6810 Roadside Screening Device was missing.

The OPP is conducting a radius search of the area. 

Anyone who has observed or located a Roadside Screening Device is requested to contact the South Bruce OPP at 1-888-310-1122.

Junior CHANSAMONE Arrested At RIDE

(WEST PERTH, ON) – A Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (R.I.D.E.) spot check removed another impaired driver from the roads in West Perth.

On February 12 2021, just before 12:00 a.m., the Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting R.I.D.E. checks on Perth Line 20, and Perth Road 163, when a vehicle entered the program. During the course of the stop, the investigating officer formed the opinion that the driver had consumed alcohol.

A Roadside Approved Screening Device test was conducted, which resulted in a fail. The driver was arrested and brought to a local police station for further testing, where two samples of breath were provided.

As a result, Junior CHANSAMONE, 35, of South Huron, has been charged with:

  • Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 Plus)

A 90-day driving suspension and seven-day vehicle impoundment was initiated as per statute. The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Stratford at a later date to answer to the charge.

Henry RAE – Drunk Driving

(SOUTHGATE, ON) – On February 24, 2020 at 9:43 p.m. Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) stopped a motor vehicle that had failed to stop at a red light on Main Street East, in the Town of Dundalk, in the Township of Southgate.

OPP officers spoke with the driver, who failed a roadside screening device. The driver was arrested and transported to the Dufferin OPP detachment. A breath test recorded readings over the legal limit of 80 milligrams (mgs) of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood. 

Grey Bruce OPP have charged Henry RAE, 34 years-of-age, from Melancthon Township, with operation of a motor vehicle while impaired by alcohol, section 320.14(1)(a) Criminal Code of Canada (CCC) and operation while impaired with blood alcohol concentration 80 mgs or more, section 320.14(1)(b) CCC.

The driver was also charged with two Highway Traffic Act offences.

The accused’s driver’s licence is suspended for 90 days and the vehicle they were operating was towed and impounded for seven days.

The accused must attend the Ontario Court of Justice in Owen Sound on April 8, 2021.

Numerous Break And Enters – Alexander CLARK & Nathan NIGH Arrested

(NORTH PERTH, ON) -Two people have been charged after a series of multi-jurisdictional break and enters throughout Southwestern Ontario. Since October 2020, seven businesses in Seaforth, Parkhill, Forest, Lucknow, Hanover, Walkerton and Listowel have been victim of similar break, enters and thefts.

On February 19, 2021, just before 1:00 a.m., a Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer was investigating a report of a suspect rummaging through unlocked vehicles in the Municipality of North Perth, when a vehicle was observed failing to stop at a stop sign. A traffic stop was conducted on Main Street West, Listowel, and during the investigation, the officer noticed the vehicle matched the description of a suspect vehicle in the break and enters.

While officers were speaking with the occupants, it was reported that a break and enter at a business on Wallace Avenue North, in Listowel had just occurred. The suspects had broken a window to gain access. The driver and passenger, matching surveillance footage, were arrested for the break and enter. The subsequent investigation confirmed that they were also responsible for the seven previous similar occurrences.

As a result, Alexander CLARK, 33, of Huron East, has been charged with:

  • Break, Enter a place – With Intent to Commit Indictable Offence
  • Break, Enter a place – Commit Indictable Offence (seven counts)
  • Mischief Under $5000 (eight counts)
  • Theft Under $5000 (seven counts)
  • Possess Break in Instruments

Also, Nathan NIGH, 30, of Huron East, has been charged with:

  • Break, Enter a place – With Intent to Commit Indictable Offence
  • Break, Enter a place – Commit Indictable Offence (six counts)
  • Mischief Under $5000 (seven counts)
  • Theft Under $5000 (six counts)
  • Possess Break in Instruments

The accused parties were released from custody and are scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Stratford at a later date to answer to the charges.

Stolen Vehicle & Property Recovered – MOSHER, MOSHER, FIELD & FIELD Arrested

(ASHFIELD-COLBORNE-WAWANOSH, ON) – Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers have laid charges against four Huron County residents following an investigation that started out as a possible stolen vehicle investigation. 

On February 17, 2021 Huron OPP officers received a report of a suspect that had taken out a pickup truck on a test drive from a dealership located within the county and had failed to return with the vehicle. Police began investigating and were fortunate enough to receive a tip on the location of the stolen vehicle. Officers later attended a property located on Gore Road in Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh where they located the stolen Ford F-150 pickup truck along with some other stolen property. Some of the other recovered stolen items included an Arctic Cat snowmobile, a Misk dump trailer and several licence plates.

A total of four individuals were arrested and taken into custody without incident. Criminal charges have been laid against the following:

  • Alex MOSHER, 27 years of age from Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh has been charged with Possession of Property Obtained by Crime – Over $5,000 (two counts), Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000, Mischief Under $5,000, Possession of Break-in Instruments, Theft Over $5,000 of a Motor Vehicle and Theft Under $5,000.
  • Adam MOSHER, 29 years of age from Huron East has been charged with Possession of Property Obtained by Crime – Over $5,000 (three counts), Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000 (two counts), Mischief Under $5,000, Fail to Comply with Probation Order and Fail to Comply with Release Order.
  • Kayla FIELD, 28 years of age from Central Huron has been charged with Possession of Property Obtained by Crime – Over $5,000 (two counts), Unauthorized Possession of a Weapon (Conducted Energy Weapon) and Fail to Comply with Probation Order.
  • Justin FIELD, 30 years of age from Central Huron has been charged with Possession of Property Obtained by Crime – Over $5,000 (two counts) and Fail to Comply with Probation Order.

Alex MOSHER and Adam MOSHER remain in custody whereas Kayla FIELD and Justin FIELD have been released with upcoming court dates.
