Donna HINDMARSH -Passed Out Behind Wheel

(SOUTH HURON, ON) – A South Huron resident is facing Impaired Operation charges after police responded to a call about a driver passed out behind the wheel.

On Thursday, May 6, 2021 at approximately 6:24 p.m. Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to Ausable Line near Crediton Road to investigate a possible impaired driver stopped on the shoulder of the road. A concerned citizen stopped and checked on the driver and found the driver passed out behind the wheel. 

Upon arrival the investigating officer spoke with the driver and immediately observed the driver to be experiencing signs of impairment. As a result the driver was arrested for Impaired Operation and was transported to the Huron OPP Detachment for breath tests. The driver later provided two samples of breath to the qualified Intoxilizer Technician and both samples were found to be over the legal limit. 

Donna HINDMARSH, 36 years of age, from South Huron has been charged with Operation While Impaired and Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) 80 Plus. 

The accused has since been released from custody with a court date scheduled for June 21, 2021 at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich. The accused’s vehicle was towed and impounded. Additionally, an automatic 90-day driver’s licence suspension was served on the driver.

William James ANDREWS – Drunk Driving

(TOWNSHIP OF GUELPH-ERAMOSA, ON) – On May 5, 2021, at approximately 12:20 a.m., members of the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of an impaired driver on Speedvale Avenue west, just outside Guelph.

Officer located the vehicle and commenced an investigation.

As a result, William James ANDREWS, 33-years-old of Toronto has been charged with Impaired Operation and Impaired Operation – Blood Alcohol Concentration 80 Plus contrary to the Criminal Code. 

A 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (A.D.L.S.) and 7-day Vehicle Impoundment was initiated as per statute. The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice – Guelph at a later date.

John YASCHUK – Drunk Driving

(BRANT COUNTY, ON) – On Saturday, May 8, 2021 at 2:39 p.m., an officer with the Brant County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of an impaired driver near the King Edward Street area of Paris. The subject vehicle was located and Standard Field Sobriety Testing (SFST) was utilized. The driver was arrested and transported to the Brant County OPP detachment, where further tests were administered.

Police have charged John YASCHUK, 69 years-of-age from Paris, Ontario with

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs and
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus).

The accused has been released from police custody and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice located in Brantford, Ontario at a later date.

Michael PITTMAN – Drunk Driving

(TOWNSHIP OF CENTRE WELLINGTON, ON) – On May 9, 2021, at approximately 8:00 p.m., members of the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were approached by a witness reporting a possible impaired driver on Elizabeth Cr. in Fergus.

Officer located the vehicle and commenced an investigation.

As a result, Michael PITTMAN, 45-years-old of Fergus has been charged with Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration 80 Plus contrary to the Criminal Code. 

A 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (A.D.L.S.) and 7-day Vehicle Impoundment was initiated as per statute. The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice – Guelph at a later date.

Sucker Gives Scammer $150,000 After Being Told They Won $800,000

(NORFOLK COUNTY, ON) – On Friday, May 7, 2021, at approximately 10:47 a.m., the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Norfolk County Detachment investigated a fraud after being called to a Norfolk County address.

It was determined that a local resident had been contacted through a social media platform and informed that they had won an $800,000 prize. Between January 1, 2020 and May 7, 2021, the victim forwarded approximately $150,000 in E-Transfers using a Bit-Coin website. The victim realized that this was in fact a scam and contacted police.

Scammers are increasingly using email and other online social media applications as a means of communication to target potential victims. The OPP are warning all residents to be on the lookout for unsolicited messages claiming that you have won a prize as a result of being a new account holder of any new media platform that was recently downloaded to your devices. If you receive a suspicious message from anyone claiming that you won a large sum of money or new vehicle, simply delete the message and do NOT send any money.

Members of the Norfolk County OPP Crime Unit are continuing to investigate and is seeking the public’s assistance with this investigation. If anyone has any information they are being asked to contact the OPP at 1-888-310-1122.

Chad Donald HEPBURN – Break, Enter & Theft

(TOWNSHIP OF GUELPH-ERAMOSA, ON) – On May 7, 2021 members of the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU) arrested and charged the outstanding suspect in relation to a break and enter in progress that occurred at a residence on April 28, 2021.

At approximately 2:45 a.m., officers responded to a report of a break and enter in progress at a vacant residence on Highway 7 near Jones Baseline, Guelph-Eramosa Township. It was reported that two males were in the residence and one was armed with a handgun. One suspect was arrested at the time of the incident and taken into custody while the other fled the scene.

Chad Donald HEPBURN, 48-years-old of Flamborough Township has been charged with Break and Enter and Theft Under $5000 contrary to the Criminal Code. The Accused will appear in the Ontario Court of Justice – Guelph at a later date.

Middlesex Weekend Report

(MIDDLESEX, ON) – Over the course of the weekend, members of the Middlesex County, Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), were busy doing their part to keep our communities safe. 

(London, ON) – TRAFFIC STOP FOR STUNT RESULTS IN IMPAIRED CHARGE

On May 9, 2021 at 3:05 a.m., while travelling through the City of London, Middlesex OPP performed a traffic stop for stunt driving on Fanshawe Park Rd. E., at Highbury Avenue.

As a result, Liam HALLET, a 30-year-old of London, has been charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus), section 320.14(1)(b) of the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Novice driver – B.A.C. above zero, section 44.1(3) of the Highway Traffic Act.
  • Race a motor vehicle – Excessive Speed, section 172(1) of the Highway traffic Act
  • Driver fail to surrender licence, section 33(1) of the Highway Traffic Act
  • Use plate not authorized for vehicle, section 1291)(d) of the Highway Traffic Act
  • Disobey lane light – motorist, section 144(10)(b) of the Highway Traffic Act
  • Class G1 licence holder – unaccompanied by qualified driver, OReg 340/94 5(1) of the Highway Traffic Act
  • Drive vehicle or boat with cannabis readily available, section 12(1) of the Cannabis Control Act
  • Operate a motor vehicle without insurance, section 2(1)(a) of the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act

The accused has been released from police custody and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice on July 13, 2021 to speak to the charges.

(Adelaide-Metcalfe) – TRAFFIC STOP RESULTS IN MULTIPLE CHARGES

On May 9, 2021 at 8:47 a.m., members of the Middlesex County Ontario Provincial Police were performing traffic enforcement, for speed reduction, on Highway 402, Adelaide-Metcalfe Township.

As a result of the initiative, a driver was stopped for speeding.

Suvaughn BROWN, a 28-year-old of Toronto was charged with:

  • Personation with intent to avoid arrest, prosecution or obstruct justice (Identity fraud), section 403(1)(d) of the Criminal Code of Canada.
  • Driving while under suspension, section 53(1) of the Highway Traffic Act
  • Speeding 1 – 49 Km/h over posted limit, Section 128 of the Highway Traffic Act.
  • Driver Fail to Surrender Licence, section 33(1) of the Highway Traffic Act

The accused has been released from police custody and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice on June 21, 2021 to speak to the charges.

(Middlesex Centre) – THEFT OF CATALYTIC CONVERTORS FROM BUSINESS

On May 7, 2021, at 2:39 p.m., members of the Middlesex County Ontario Provincial Police were dispatched to a business on Gainsborough Road, Middlesex Centre Township, for the report of thefts of Catalytic Convertors from trailers, stored on the property. The investigation is ongoing.  

The Middlesex OPP wants to remind the public that if you see anything suspicious or suspect an impaired driver you should contact the Ontario Provincial Police or your nearest police authority immediately.

Brian WHITWORTH – Drunk Driving

(HALDIMAND COUNTY, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Haldimand County Detachment has charged a 32-year-old individual with impaired driving following a collision investigation on Concession 11 Walpole in Hagersville, Haldimand County, ON.

On Saturday May 8, 2021 at 1:35 p.m., OPP responded to Concession 11 Walpole for a report of a single vehicle collision.

OPP located the vehicle on its roof in the ditch where they investigated.

An individual was located a short distance away and was identified as the vehicle driver.

The individual was not injured as a result of the collision.

While speaking with the individual, signs of alcohol consumption were detected. An Approved Screening Device was utilized and the individual was taken to the Haldimand County OPP detachment for further testing.

As a result of their investigation, OPP has charged 32-year-old Brian WHITWORTH of Caledonia, Haldimand County, ON with:

  • Driving a motor vehicle while impaired
  • Driving a motor vehicle with more than 80 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood

The accused is to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cayuga at a later date to answer to the charges.

Jonathan DE WIT – Drunk Driving

(OXFORD COUNTY, ON) – On May 8, 2021, at approximately 2:15 a.m., the Oxford County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) arrested a driver on Otterville Road, Norwich Township.

While on patrol, a vehicle caught the attention of an officer for a Highway Traffic Act violation.

A traffic stop was conducted and an Approved Screening Device (ASD) was utilized at the roadside. 

As a result, the driver was arrested and transported to the Oxford OPP detachment where further tests were administered.

21-year-old Jonathan DE WIT of Springford was charged with the following offences:

  •  Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 plus)
  •  Novice Driver – BAC Above Zero

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Woodstock on a later date.

Scott PORTEOUS – Drunk Driving

(TOWNSHIP OF CENTRE WELLINGTON, ON) – On May 8, 2021, at approximately 10:25 p.m., members of the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting R.I.D.E. spot checks on Wellington Road 18 in Centre Wellington Township. Police investigated the driver of a motor vehicle that entered into the checkpoint.

As a result, Scott PORTEOUS, 41-years-old of Waterloo has been charged with Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration 80 Plus contrary to the Criminal Code and Drive Motor Vehicle With Open Container of Liquor contrary to the Liquor Licence Act. 

A 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (A.D.L.S.) and 7-day Vehicle Impoundment was initiated as per statute. The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice – Guelph at a later date.

Police located the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop.

As a result of the investigation, Anthony Douglas JONES, 55-years-old of Fergus has been charged with Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration 80 Plus contrary to the Criminal Code. 

A 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (A.D.L.S.) and 7-day Vehicle Impoundment was initiated as per statute. The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice – Guelph at a later date.

Nicholas BOYD – Impaired Driving

(KINCARDINE, ON) – On May 7, 2021 at 2:40 p.m., the South Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of a suspected impaired driver. Officers located the vehicle along Broadway Street in Kincardine and found that the driver had been drinking alcohol.

Nicholas BOYD, 23-years-old, of Kincardine was charged with Operate over 80 milligrams. The accused is scheduled to appear in court on June 9, 2021 to answer to the charge.

This charge includes an immediate 7-day vehicle impoundment and an immediate 90 day driver’s license suspension.

Anne EPSTEIN – Arson, Disregard for Human Life

(POINT EDWARD, ON) – On May 8, 2021 at 6:30 p.m., members of the Lambton County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were contacted by Command Staff of Point Edward Fire and Rescue regarding a suspicious structure fire on Fort Street, Point Edward.

Officers attended and secured the scene to await the arrival of the Ontario Fire Marshal. Through the investigation, a suspect was identified and taken into custody.

Anne EPSTEIN, 64-years-old of Point Edward has been charged with:

  • Arson-Disregard for Human Life (CC).

The accused was released following a bail hearing on May 9, 2021.

10 Year Old Airlifted To Hospital

(OXFORD COUNTY, ON) – On May 8, 2021, at approximately 12:35 p.m., the Oxford County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of a collision at a property on Brownsville Road, South-West Oxford Township.

Members of the OPP, South-West Oxford Fire Services from Brownsville, Oxford County Emergency Medical Services (EMS) and Air Ornge Ambulance attended.

Investigation determined that a 10-year-old was injured when struck by a derby style vehicle at that location. 

The boy was airlifted to an out of town hospital with serious injuries. The driver was not injured.

The investigation is continuing and updates will be provided when they become available.
