Arrest after woman assaulted

A Guelph man faces assault and weapons charges after a woman was assaulted during a dispute over a hidden camera.

Last Thursday, the Guelph Police Service was informed of an assault which had taken place in a residence on Speedvale Avenue West. A woman reported she had been staying with an acquaintance for a few days when she noticed a camera in the room where she was changing her clothes.

She confronted the homeowner. A physical confrontation ensued, during which she was struck several times with a bat and had her phone broken. The victim was transported to hospital for treatment of injuries including a broken hand.

A 46-year-old Guelph man is charged with assault causing bodily harm, possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose, mischief and voyeurism. He was held for a bail hearing Monday.

Co-worker sexually assaulted

A Guelph man was fired and arrested after a co-worker reported being repeatedly sexually assaulted Friday.

Saturday afternoon, an adult female called police to report the assaults. On Friday afternoon she was working at a local manufacturing plant when a male co-worker repeatedly touched and tried to kiss her. He also forced her to sit back down in her chair when she tried to get away from him. She reported the assaults to her supervisor and the male was immediately terminated.

A 39-year-old Guelph man is charged with sexual assault and forcible confinement. He will appear in court June 14.

Suspended driver flees traffic stop

A Guelph woman faces several charges after fleeing a traffic stop Saturday afternoon.

Approximately 2:30 p.m. a Guelph Police Service officer saw a vehicle driving downtown and determined the driver is currently suspended. A traffic stop was conducted on Arthur Street North and the officer temporarily removed the keys from the vehicle to prevent a continuation of the offence.

While the officer was in his cruiser completing paperwork, the driver approached and began shouting at him. She then re-entered her vehicle and used a spare key to start it and speed away. In the interest of public safety the officer did not pursue the vehicle after observing it driving through a stop sign.

Officers attended the owner’s residence and found her still sitting in the driver’s seat.

A 64-year-old Guelph woman is charged with flight from police, stunt driving, driving while suspended and other Highway Traffic Act offences. She will appear in court June 11. Her vehicle was impounded for 14 days.

Impaired charge following traffic stop

A Cambridge man faces impaired driving charges following a traffic stop Saturday morning.

Approximately 2:10 a.m. a member of the Guelph Police Service observed a vehicle leaving a licensed establishment on Silvercreek Parkway South and making a wide turn into the oncoming lane.

A traffic stop was conducted and the officer noted a strong odour of alcohol on the driver’s breath. After failing a roadside test he was arrested and transported to the police station, where he repeatedly refused to provide a breath sample.

A 36-year-old Cambridge man is charged with impaired driving and refusing to provide a breath sample. His licence was suspended for 90 days and his vehicle was impounded for seven days. He will appear in court May 10.

The Guelph Police Service would like to encourage the public to always consume alcohol and cannabis responsibly. Please don’t drive if you are going to consume alcohol or cannabis, and please ensure that you plan ahead so that you have a safe ride home. Anyone who spots a suspected impaired driver is asked to immediately call 911.

Two stunt drivers taken off road

Two motorists were taken off the road Saturday after they were each caught driving nearly twice the speed limit.

Just after 5 p.m. a member of the Guelph Police Service Traffic Unit was patrolling on Gordon Street near Kortright Road when he clocked a Honda SUV travelling 95 km/h in a posted 50 km/h zone. A 20-year-old Guelph man is charged with speeding and stunt driving.

Just before midnight Saturday, the same officer was patrolling on Wellington Street West near the Hanlon Expressway when he clocked a Volkswagen travelling 116 km/h in a 60 km/h zone. A 20-year-old Fergus man is charged with speeding and stunt driving.

Both drivers had their licences suspended for 30 days and their vehicles impounded for 14 days.

(TEMISKAMING SHORES, ON) – The Temiskaming Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have arrested and charged one person with impaired driving.

On April 27, 2024, shortly after 9:30 a.m., members of the Temiskaming OPP stopped a motor vehicle for a Highway Traffic Act violation on Highway 11 in the City of Temiskaming Shores. Through investigation, police determined that the driver had been consuming alcoholic beverages. The driver was arrested and transported to the Temiskaming Detachment for further testing.

As a result of the investigation, Darren LEUKERT, 45 years-of-age of New Liskeard was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

The accused was released and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on May 28, 2024. The accused was also issued a 90-day Administrative Drivers Licence Suspension (ADLS), and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

Tyler KERR Was Arrested

As a result of the investigation, Tyler KERR, 33 years-of-age of Temiskaming Shores was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Fail to comply with probation order

The accused was released and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on May 28, 2024. The accused was also issued a 90-day Administrative Drivers Licence Suspension (ADLS), and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

As a result of the investigation, Robin WHITESIDE, 52 years-of-age of Sudbury was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

The accused was released and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on May 28, 2024. The accused was also issued a 90-day Administrative Drivers Licence Suspension (ADLS), and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

Susan Button Was Arrested

(TERRACE BAY, ON) – A call for service has resulted in one individual facing multiple charges including impaired driving.

On April 27, 2024, at approximately 12:30 a.m., members of the Schreiber Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Detachment received a call for service regarding a possible impaired driver in the Town of Terrace Bay.

Officers patrolled and observed the vehicle on Terrace Heights Drive in Terrace Bay. A traffic stop was conducted. The driver was subsequently placed under arrest for impaired driving.

The driver was brought back to the Schreiber OPP Detachment for further testing.

Susan Button, 32-years-old of Terrace Bay has been charged with:

·      Operation While Impaired – Alcohol and Drugs

·      Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 Plus)

·      Drive Motor Vehicle – No Licence

·      Operate a Motor Vehicle Without Insurance

The accused is now facing a 90-Day Administrative Drivers Licence Suspension (ADLS) and a 7-Day vehicle impoundment. The accused was released from custody and will appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Schreiber on a later date.

Road Rage: One Dead

(AURORA, ON) – Officers from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Highway Safety Division (HSD) – Aurora Detachment, are investigating a collision that resulted in one fatality.

On Friday, April 26th, 2024, at 5:38p.m., the OPP were called to a six vehicle collision on Highway 400, near Simcoe road 89, in Innisfil. A witness reported a road rage incident in the southbound lanes between two vehicles that resulted in an initial collision between them. One of the vehicles crossed the centre median, rolled and was struck by a pick-up truck in the northbound lanes. The driver of the vehicle that rolled, a 21-year-old male from Mississauga was pronounced deceased. The driver of the pick-up truck sustained minor injuries and was transported to the hospital.

The investigation is ongoing, and no charges have been laid until this point. Any witnesses or anyone with information is asked to call the Aurora OPP detachment at (905) 841-5777.

Death In Meaford

(MEAFORD, ON) – On April 27, 2024, at 11:08 a.m., the Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of a possible drowning in the Meaford harbour.

Emergency responders pulled an individual from the water who was unresponsive. An 81-year-old resident of Meaford was subsequently pronounced deceased.

The incident remains under investigation, there is no concern for public safety at this time.

William DENBY – Threats

(CITY OF KAWARTHA LAKES, ON) – Members of the City of Kawartha Lakes Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and members of the Kawartha Lakes Police Service (KLPS) have conducted a joint investigation resulting in charges being laid against a 65-year-old from Fenelon Township.

On April 25, 2024, William DENBY was arrested and charged with the following offences:

  • Criminal Harassment
  • Uttering Threats
  • Intimidation of a Justice System Participant

The accused was held for a bail hearing.

Abdul RAKEEB Was Arrested

(MUNICIPALITY OF BRIGHTON, ON) – One individual has been charged with being intoxicated in a public place and causing mischief while later in custody.

On April 25, 2024, at approximately 6:45 p.m., the Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a disturbance on Dundas Street in the Municipality of Brighton. Further reports were received pertaining to the same person at a commercial premises off Prince Edward Street.

Police shortly located the accused causing a further disturbance to passing motorists before being arrested and transported to a nearby detachment where mischief was caused to government property inside.

Abdul RAKEEB, 31-years-old, from Brighton has been charged with:

  • Being intoxicated in a public place
  • Mischief – obstructs, interrupts or interferes with the lawful use, enjoyment or operation of property.

The accused is due to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg at a future date.

Marshall MESSON Was Arrested

(LONG LAKE 58 FIRST NATION, ON) – A traffic complaint has resulted in one individual being arrested and charged with impaired operation.

On April 25, 2024, shortly after 3:00 a.m., members of the Greenstone Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a traffic complaint of a suspected impaired driver on Beaver Street in Long Lake 58 First Nation. Officers located the vehicle and initiated a traffic stop.

Through investigation, it was determined that the driver of the motor vehicle had been impaired by alcohol. The driver was subsequently placed under arrest and transported to the Greenstone OPP Detachment for further testing.

As a result, Marshall MESSON, 24-years-old, of Long Lake 58 First Nation, has been arrested and charged under the Criminal Code, Highway Traffic Act, and Liquor Licence Control Act with:

·      Operation While Impaired – Alcohol and Drugs

·      Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 plus)

·      Driving Motor Vehicle with Open Container or Liquor

·      Drive Motor Vehicle – No Insurance

The accused has been released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Greenstone on May 29, 2024.

Fatal Collision

(THAMES CENTRE, ON) – Atwo vehicle collision on Highway 401 in the Westbound lanes in Thames Centre leaves one involved occupant deceased.

On April 26, 2024, at 2:15 a.m., members of the Middlesex County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Oxford County OPP, Middlesex-London Paramedic Service and local Fire, were dispatched to the westbound lanes of Highway 401 between Culloden and Putnam Roads in Thames Centre, for the report of a serious collision involving two vehicles.

One individual, a 24-year-old of London, was pronounced deceased at scene as a result of the collision.

The driver of the second vehicle was transported to hospital as a precaution.

The OPP Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement (TIME) team attended the scene to assist with the investigation.

The roadway was closed for the investigation between Culloden Road in Oxford County and Putnam Road in Middlesex County for six hours.

2 Arrested Following Break & Enter

(HALIBURTON COUNTY) – Members of the Haliburton Highlands Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and City of Kawartha Lakes (CKL) / Haliburton Highlands Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU) have made two arrests following an investigation into two reported break and enters in the County of Haliburton.

On April 12, 2024, members of the Haliburton Highlands OPP were at a residence in Haliburton and observed property and a vehicle related to prior reported break and enters in the County of Haliburton. The vehicle was seized, and a search warrant was obtained. This resulted in the recovery of stolen property.

Through this investigation two people were identified and later arrested.  

Katlyn HOLLANDS (age 32) of Haliburton has been charged with:

·        Possession of stolen property under 5000

·        Possession of stolen property over 5000

This accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Minden on June 5, 2024.

Joseph BELL (age 32) of Peterborough has been charged with:

·        Possession of stolen property under 5000

·        Possession of stolen property over 5000

·        Fail to comply with probation order (2 counts)

This accused was held for a bail hearing.

Chatham-Kent, Ontario: The Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to 193 calls for service in the last 24 hours. Four person was arrested and ??? on an outstanding warrant.

Man Arrested for Assault CK24018368

At 11:47 a.m., police responded to Keil Drive South in Chatham for a disturbance.

Upon arrival, officers learned a man and woman engaged in a verbal argument. The argument escalated when the man assaulted the woman. The woman was able to leave the situation and call the police.

The 30-year-old Chatham man was arrested and transported to police headquarters, where he was released with conditions and a future court date of May 27, 2024. He has been charged with assault causing bodily harm, assault, and uttering threats.

Man Arrested for Bail Violations CK24018406

At 3:03 p.m., police located the man on Wellington Street West in Chatham. Officers confirmed the man was wanted on an outstanding warrant in relation to an April 2024 bail violation investigation and several theft investigations.

The 28-year-old Chatham Kent man was arrested and transported to police headquarters, where he was held for a bail hearing. He is currently facing the following charges: mischief, failing to comply with a release order, five counts of possession of stolen property, and five counts of theft.

Intelligence Gathering Drones Launched By Guelph Police

As part of our ongoing commitment to use technology to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of our operations, the Guelph Police Service recently launched our new remotely piloted aircraft system program.

An RPAS is a power-driven aircraft designated to fly without a human operator on board. It is a tool that can enhance police operations in a variety of scenarios including searches for missing persons, collision reconstruction, intelligence gathering, during tactical operations, and for evidence gathering processes.

The Guelph Police Service RPAS is a DJI Matrice M30T. The M30T system includes high resolution RGB and thermal cameras, a laser rangefinder system, and dual speaker/spotlight payloads. The system has a 40+ minute flight time, 15-kilometre flight range, high wind resistance and a weatherproof rating.

The RPAS is operated only by members who have been issued an advanced flight operations pilot certificate (VLOS) by Transport Canada. Pilots are required to complete a minimum number of flying hours to maintain their proficiency.

Situations when use of the RPAS might be beneficial are reviewed on a case-by-case basis and flight operations will only be conducted if a legal authority exists and/or judicial authorization has been obtained. The GPS has conducted a Privacy Impact Assessment (PIA) in accordance with the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Ontario’s guidelines to ensure all privacy risks have been considered and appropriate actions have been taken to address those risks. 

 We are committed to protecting the privacy of individuals in the operation of the RPAS, and to ensuring that all collection, use, disclosure and retention of personal information is in accordance with the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (MFIPPA).

Serious Assault: Wayne FLEGEL & Christopher MCCANNA-WRIGHT Arrested

(RENFREW, ON) – The Renfrew Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged two people following a serious assault in Renfrew.

On April 24, 2024, around 11:00 p.m., officers responded to a disturbance and located two males with stab wounds on Airth Boulevard. Both were transported to hospital by Renfrew County Paramedics with non-life-threatening injuries.

Two people were arrested without incident on April 25, 2024.

Wayne FLEGEL, age 60 of Renfrew, has been charged with two counts of attempt to commit murder. This accused remains in custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Pembroke on April 29, 2024.

Christopher MCCANNA-WRIGHT, age 34 of Renfrew has been charged with two counts of assault with a weapon. This accused remains in custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Pembroke on April 26, 2024.
