Cocaine Bust – Repeat Offender Arrested Again

(Bancroft, ON) – Members of the Bancroft Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have laid drug charges after a traffic stop in the Town of Bancroft.

On July 20, 2024, shortly after 7:00 AM, officers conducted a traffic stop in the Town of Bancroft. As a result of the investigation, 36-year-old Amanda CORBY and 60-year-old Charles TOWNSEND, both of Wilberforce, were arrested and charged with the criminal offence of possession of Schedule 1 – cocaine.

Amanda CORBY was additionally charged with:

  • Breach of Recognizance;
  • Failure to comply with release order; and
  • Fail to Comply with Probation Order – two counts.

Charles TOWNSEND was released from custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Bancroft on September 17th, 2024. Amanda CORBY was held in custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Belleville on July 22, 2024.

Michael Bushey – Drunk Driving

(CITY OF KAWARTHA LAKES, ON) – July 21st at approximately 7:30 p.m. Members from the City of Kawartha Lakes Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a traffic complaint for a possible impaired driver. Officers located the vehicle traveling northbound on Highway 35 near Lindsay.

As a result of the traffic stop, the driver, 39-year-old, Michael Bushey from Lindsay was arrested and charged with

–      Operation while impaired-alcohol and drugs

–      Operation while impaired- blood alcohol concentration (80plus)

–      Driving motor vehicle with open container of liquor

Michael Bushey received a 90-day licence suspension, and the motor vehicle was impounded for 7 days.

Michael Bushey was released from custody with conditions and will appear in court at a future date.

Stephen GOOD – Impaired Driving

(BRACEBRIDGE, ON) – Bracebridge Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged another person with impaired driving offences after responding to a motor vehicle collision in Bracebridge, ON.

On July 21, 2024, at 8:40 a.m. Bracebridge OPP officers responded to reports of a vehicle that was in the ditch on Mattiasville Road in Bracebridge. Officers arrived and commenced an investigation into the cause of the collision and subsequently arrested and charged 28-year-old Stephen GOOD of Bracebridge, ON with Operation While Impaired CC 320.14(1)(a) and Over 80 CC 320.14(1)(b).

The accused will appear in the Ontario Court of Justice on August 27, 2024 to answer to his charges. Drivers who are charged with impaired driving offenses also suffer an immediate 90 day drivers license suspension and have their vehicle impounded.

More Impaired Drivers Arrested

(ORILLIA, ON) – Members of the Orillia Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) arrested and charged four individuals over the weekend with Impaired driving related offences.  

Between July 19, 2024, and July 22, 2024, officers from the Orillia detachment of the OPP were dispatched to multiple traffic complaints and conducted regular traffic patrols within the City of Orillia and surrounding townships. Members of the community called the provinces emergency service numbers and as a result, seventeen charges were laid over the weekend by responding officers. A total of four drivers were arrested and charged. Four vehicles were impounded, and the drivers’ licenses were suspended.

Motorists are asked to prioritize safety on our roads by slowing down, driving safely, cautiously, and never drive impaired.

As a result, Sebastian TUFFORD; 18-year-old, from Barrie has been subsequently charged with:

  • Operation while impaired by alcohol
  • Operation while impaired – 80 plus
  • Failure or refusal to comply with probation order

As a result, Naman KHATRI; 20-year-old, from Barrie has been subsequently charged with:

  • Obstruct peace officer
  • Public Mischief
  • Dangerous Operation
  • Operation while impaired by alcohol
  • Operation while impaired – 80 plus
  • Fail to properly wear seatbelt
  • Novice Driver – B.A.C. above zero
  • Driving while under suspension
  • G1 licence holder – unaccompanied by qualified driver
  • Drive motor vehicle with open container of liquor

As a result, Taylor Douglas EDWARDS; 26-year-old, from St. Catharines has been subsequently charged with:

  • Operation while impaired

As a result, Wesley Peter Charles TUZYK; 33-year-old, from Orillia has been subsequently charged with:

  • Operation while impaired
  • Failure or refusal to comply with a demand

Felix Lecomte – Drunk Driving, Etc.

(RUSSELL TWP, ON) – Members of the Russell County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have arrested a motorist for impaired driving and other charges.

On July 20, 2024, at approximately 8:55 p.m., officers responded after receiving numerous calls concerning an erratic driver on Highway 417 near mile marker

417. The complainants stated that a blue Mazda CX5, travelling west bound, was continuously flashing it’s high-beams and stopped in a live lane causing vehicles to use the shoulder to avoid the vehicle. The complainants also provided police with the vehicle’s licence plate number.

The vehicle was later located in the drive thru of the Embrun McDonalds. Officers attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver fled almost striking a police vehicle head on. Police continued their investigation and after identifying the driver they contacted him, and he agreed to turn himself in. Police also located the suspect vehicle parked on a street in a nearby neighbourhood.

As a result of the investigation, 22-year-old Felix Lecomte, from Embrun, Ontario, was charged under the Criminal Code (CC) and Highway Traffic Act (HTA) with:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol CC
  • Flight from peace officer CC
  • Dangerous operation CC
  • Driver motor vehicle – no licence HTA

The vehicle was impounded for forty-five days, and the accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in L’Orignal on August 28, 2024.

Edward JESSOP – Drunk Driving

(ATIKOKAN, ON) – A public complaint that some obviously intoxicated people were trying to get a work truck out of the ditch resulted in charges for a Winnipeg resident.  

On July 19, 2024, at approximately 5:00 pm, the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) in Atikokan received a public complaint about a work truck in the ditch near Mathieu Road east of Atikokan.

Atikokan OPP responded and identified an involved person thanks to assistance from the public. Investigation confirmed that alcohol was a factor in the incident. One person was arrested at the scene and transported to the Atikokan Detachment where alcohol breath testing was completed by demand.  

Edward JESSOP, 49-years-old, from Winnipeg MB is charged criminally with one count of impaired operation alcohol or drug, and one count of impaired operation blood alcohol concentration 80 plus. The accused also received a 90-day drivers licence suspension, and the work truck was impounded for 7 days.

The accused was released by police and is scheduled to appear in the Atikokan Ontario Court of Justice on August 22, 2024, to answer to the charges.

More Impaired Drivers Arrested

(CALEDON, ON) – Officers from the Caledon Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged two drivers with impaired operation within one night shift.

On July 18, 2024, just after 11:00 p.m., Caledon OPP received a report of a vehicle in a truck yard on George Bolton Parkway. Officers attended to investigate. Grounds were formed that the driver’s ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by alcohol and was subsequently arrested.

As a result, Gurpreet GILL, 49, of Caledon, was charged with:

• Operation while impaired – alcohol

• Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

Shortly after, on July 19, 2024, just after midnight, officers on patrol on Highway 410 near Mayfield Road observed a vehicle being operated in a concerning manner. The vehicle was stopped, and officers met with the driver. Grounds were formed that the driver’s ability to operation a motor vehicle was impaired by alcohol and was subsequently arrested.

As a result, Nimish MALHOTRA, 23, of Rexdale, was charged with:

• Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

• Novice driver – B.A.C. above zero

Both accused are scheduled to attend the Ontario Court of Justice in Orangeville on August 8, 2024, to answer to the charges. The driver’s licences were also suspended for 90 days, and the vehicles impounded for seven.

Caledon OPP would like to take this opportunity to educate motorists on the rules and consequences for novice and young drivers when it comes to the consumption of alcohol or drugs:

1. Ontario drivers with the licence class of G1 or G2 are considered novice drivers.

2. Ontario drivers under the age of 22 are considered young drivers.

3. Young and novice drivers cannot consume any alcohol or drug before operating a motor vehicle. This means young and novice drivers must have zero traces of alcohol or drug when operating a vehicle.

There is a zero-tolerance policy for impaired drivers on our roads and the OPP is committed to ensuring all drivers understand the rules and consequences before getting behind the wheel.

If you plan on drinking or consuming drugs, do not drive. Instead, arrange for a designated driver, take a taxi or public transit, or come up with another plan that takes impaired driving out of the picture. If you suspect that someone is driving while impaired by alcohol or drugs, it is important to call 9-1-1 to report it. Ajaypal SINGH – Careless Driving

(ATIKOKAN, ON) – A public complaint about a dangerous truck driver resulted in several charges for a Thunder Bay resident. 

On June 21, 2024 at approximately 8:00 pm, the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) in Atikokan received a public complaint about a tractor trailer unit (TTU) log truck that was driving dangerously on Highway 11 near the Rainy River District border with Thunder Bay. The TTU forced another vehicle onto the shoulder of the highway and was observed to be repeatedly crossing over the center line into the oncoming lane.

Atikokan OPP acquired video of the offence and began an investigation that was assisted by the Ministry of Transportation Commercial Motor Vehicle Enforcement Branch and the Canada Border Services Agency Inland Immigration Enforcement Branch.

Ajaypal SINGH, 24-years-old from Thunder Bay is charged with the following offences under the Highway Traffic Act:

·        Careless driving

·        Falsify record or document (OReg 556/06)

·        Drive commercial motor vehicle without inspection

The defendant is summoned to appear in the Atikokan Ontario Court of Justice on September 20, 2024 to answer to the charges.

Sadman DISHAN – Drunk Driving

(OTTAWA, ON) – Members of the Ottawa Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have laid impaired driving charges against an Ottawa resident after a single vehicle collision on Highway 417 at Kent St.

Shortly before 2:00 a.m. on July 20, Ottawa OPP responded to a single vehicle collision on Highway 417 at Kent St. The vehicle had struck the barrier and rolled over. The exit at Kent St was shut down for several hours while police conducted their investigation. Both the driver and passenger were transported to hospital with minor injuries. The driver registered more then twice the legal limit.

Sadman DISHAN, 25 years of age has been charged with:

  • Operation While Impaired – Alcohol and Drugs
  • Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 Plus)

Dishan received a 90-day driving prohibition and his vehicle was impounded for seven days. Dishan was released on an Appearance Notice and is scheduled to appear in Provincial Court on August 28, 2024.

Cole CROUTER Hit & Run, Drunk Driving

(MUSKOKA LAKES TWP, ON) – Bracebridge Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged one person with impaired driving offences after responding to a motor vehicle collision in Muskoka Lakes Township.

On July 20, 2024, just before 1:00 p.m. Bracebridge OPP officers responded to reports of a vehicle that had left the roadway and collided in the ditch on Russ Hammell Road in Muskoka Lakes Township. Officers arrived and commenced an investigation into the cause of the collision and subsequently arrested and charged 30-year-old Cole CROUTER of Aurora, ON with the following offenses:

  • Operation While Impaired CC 320.14(1)(a)
  • Over 80 CC 320.14(1)(b)
  • Dangerous Operation CC 320.13(1)
  • Obstruct Peace Officer CC 129(a)
  • Fail to Remain at Collision under the Highway Traffic Act (HTA) 200(1)(a)
  • Drive with No Licence HTA 32(1)

The accused will appear in the Ontario Court of Justice on August 20, 2024 to answer to his charges. Drivers who are charged with impaired driving offenses also suffer an immediate 90 day drivers license suspension and have their vehicle impounded.

Murder Update: Justus CHESTER Arrested & Victim Identified

(MIDLAND, ON) – Members of the Southern Georgian Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have arrested and charged an individual in connection to a homicide investigation in the Town of Midland.

On July 15, 2024, the OPP attended a residence on Seventh Street just before 1:00 p.m. and located a deceased individual. A second individual was located in the residence and transported to a hospital for medical attention. That individual has since been arrested and charged.

The deceased has been identified as Julia BRADY, age 23 from Midland.

As a result of the investigation, Justus CHESTER, age 26 from Midland, has been arrested and charged with Second Degree Murder, contrary to section 235(1) of the Criminal Code.

The accused remains in custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Midland on July 22, 2024.

The Southern Georgian Bay Crime Unit and OPP Forensic Identification Services is continuing the investigation under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch, in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service.

Kyle DRAKE – Drunk Driving

(PETROLIA, ON) – A traffic complaint from a member of the public led to an individual being charged with impaired driving in Petrolia.

On July 17, 2024, at approximately 11:51 a.m., a citizen advised a member of the Lambton County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) of a collision on Maude Street in which the driver left the scene.

Police located the vehicle and driver shortly thereafter.

As a result of the investigation, Kyle DRAKE, 34-years-old from Petrolia, was charged with the following:

  • Operation while impaired- alcohol and drugs
  • Operation while impaired- blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Fail to remain

A 90-day Administrative Driver’s License Suspension (ADLS) and a seven-day vehicle impoundment was initiated as per statute.

The accused has been released from police custody and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice on August 12, 2024, in the City of Sarnia to speak to the charges.

Kimberley SKILL Drunk Driving

(PLYMPTON-WYOMING, ON) – A traffic stop for speeding led to an individual being charged for driving while impaired.

On July 18, 2024, shortly after 10:50 p.m., a member of Lambton County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) conducted a traffic stop on Forest Road, Plympton-Wyoming.

As a result of the investigation, Kimberley SKILL, 55-year-old of Windsor, was charged with the following:

  • Operation while impaired- blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Speeding 1-49Km/h over posted limit

A 90-day Administrative Driver’s License Suspension (ADLS) and a seven-day vehicle impoundment was initiated as per statute.

The accused has been released from police custody and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice on August 29, 2024, in the City of Sarnia to speak to the charges.

Jean PELLETIER – Drunk Driving

(KAPUSKASING, ON) – A traffic stop in Kapuskasing led to a driver being charged for impaired driving.

On July 18, 2024, at approximately 11:00 a.m., the James Bay Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) conducted a traffic stop on Citi des Jeunes Boulevard in Kapuskasing.

Upon speaking with the driver, police determined that they had been consuming an alcoholic beverage. The driver was arrested and transported to the Kapuskasing detachment for further testing. 

As a result of the investigation, Jean PELLETIER, 65 years of age of Kapuskasing, was charged with:

·        Operation while impaired – alcohol

·        Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on September 9, 2024, in Kapuskasing. The accused was also issued a 90-day Administrative Drivers Licence Suspension (ADLS), and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

Ian MONTGOMERY – Impaired Driving

(NORTH BAY, ON) – One person arrested for Impaired on All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV). 

On July 13, 2024, shortly before 5:00 p.m., the Powassan Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to an ATV complaint on Genesee Lake Road, Powassan. 

Through investigation, Ian MONTGOMERY, 26 years-of-age of Powassan was arrested and charged with:

  • Operation while impaired, alcohol or drugs
  • Operation while impaired, blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

The accused was issued a 90-day Administrative Drivers Licence Suspension (ADLS), and the vehicle was impounded for seven days. They are scheduled to appear at the North Bay Ontario Court of Justice on August 06, 2024.
