Shoplifters Arrested – Drugs A Factor

(TEMISKAMING SHORES, ON) – Male arrested for shoplifting by off-duty police officer results in four persons charged with drug trafficking.

On September 2, 2024, at approximately 1:00 p.m., an off-duty police officer arrested a male for shoplifting at a business on Highway 11 in Dymond Township and the Temiskaming Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were called to assist. Two people fled in a vehicle prior to their arrival and one other person hid in the store.

The vehicle was located, and a traffic stop was conducted on Shepherdson Road in New Liskeard. The occupants were arrested, and the vehicle was searched incident to arrest. Police located and seized drugs suspected to be methamphetamine and fentanyl with a total estimated street value of $112,000. The fourth person was later arrested.

As a result of the investigation, Jordan VAN MIERLO, 38 years-of-age of North Bay, was charged with:

  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – methamphetamine
  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – fentanyl
  • Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5000
  • Theft under $5000

Ryan O’HARA, 38 years-of-age of Ajax, was charged with:

  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – methamphetamine
  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – fentanyl
  • Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5000
  • Theft under $5000

Ashley GAUDETTE, 36 years-of-age of Cobalt, was charged with:

  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – methamphetamine
  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – fentanyl
  • Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5000
  • Theft under $5000

Justine ELSE, 36 years-of-age of North Bay, was charged with:

  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – methamphetamine
  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – fentanyl
  • Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5000
  • Theft under $5000
  • Failure to comply with Release Order

All four accused persons appeared in bail court before the Haileybury Ontario Court of Justice on September 3, 2024. They remain in custody and will next appear before the Haileybury Ontario Court of Justice on September 6, 2024.

Joshua LEMAY Facing Numerous Charges

(MIDLAND,ON) – A traffic stop by police of a speeding Dodge Dart on Yonge Street, Midland has resulted in the seizure of a considerable amount of street drugs, Canadian currency and weapons resulting in criminal charges for a Midland resident.

Two members of the Southern Georgian Bay OPP Detachment conducted the vehicle stop at approximately 8:16 p.m. August 28, 2024 resulting in the officers entering into a Highway Traffic Act investigation. During the course of this investigation, the officers entered into Controlled Drug and Substances Act (CDSA) investigation resulting the seizure of substances that appear to be Methamphetamine, Oxycodone, Heroin, Psilocybin and Cocaine along with drug paraphernalia. Also seized was a imitation .45 caliber BB pistol during this investigation. (see attached photograph)

Charged with the following criminal offences is Joshua LEMAY 35 years of Midland.

  • Possession of Firearm or Ammunition contrary to Prohibition Order
  • Fail to Comply with Probation Order
  • Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose

And Further With

  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine
  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Methamphetamine
  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Opioid (other than heroin)
  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking – Heroin
  • Possession of a Schedule III substance for the purpose of Trafficking
  • Possession of a Schedule III Substance

Contrary to the Controlled Drug and Substances Act

A number of Provincial Offences violations were also noted during the investigation as follows.

  • Driving while under suspension
  • Fail to produce permit
  • Drive without proper headlights – motor vehicle
  • Windshield obstructed
  • Improper tires
  • Drive motor vehicle – no licence
  • Class G1 licence holder – unaccompanied by qualified driver
  • Operate a motor vehicle without insurance
  • Fail to have insurance card
  • Fail to surrender suspended driver’s licence

The accused was held for bail and will appear before the Ontario Court of Justice  at a future date.

$400,000 Fentanyl Bust

(KENORA, ON) – Police have arrested and charged two individuals after a traffic stop led to the seizure of a large quantity of fentanyl with a street value of approximately $400,000.

On September 2, 2024, as a result of an investigation led by the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Organized Crime Enforcement Bureau, with assistance from the OPP Kenora Community Street Crime Unit, OPP Kenora Detachment and Treaty Three Police Service, a traffic stop was conducted in Kenora.

The two occupants in the vehicle were arrested and charged with drug-related offences.

Jashanpreet SINGH, age 20 and Karanpreet SINGH, age 23 both of Brampton have been charged with the following offences under the Criminal Code and the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act:

  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking – fentanyl
  • Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000

The fentanyl seized is believed to have been destined for Kenora and the surrounding communities.

Jacob A. ORAM – Drunk Driving

(GUELPH-ERAMOSA, ON) – On August 31, 2024, at approximately 8:30 a.m. officers from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Wellington County Detachment were conducting a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) program on Jones Baseline, Guelph- Eramosa.

During the operation, a vehicle was stopped, and the driver was assessed for sobriety. As a result of the investigation, Jacob A. ORAM, 24-years-old of Georgetown, was charged with:

  • ย Operation While Impaired – blood alcohol concentration 80 plus contrary to the Criminal Code

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario court of justice – Guelph, at a later date.

Richard HINOJOSA Facing Numerous Charges

(WALPOLE ISLAND FIRST NATION, ON) – Police have charged one individual following a weapons investigation, which resulted in the execution of a search warrant at a residence on Walpole Island First Nation.

On August 29, 2024, the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Lambton County Crime Unit, Lambton OPP Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU), Walpole Island First Nation Police with the assistance of the OPP West Region Tactics and Rescue Unit (TRU), and OPP Emergency Response Team (ERT) executed a search warrant at an address on River Road, Walpole Island First Nation.

During the search, officers discovered and seized firearms, ammunition, prohibited weapons, a quantity of suspected fentanyl, and other offence-related items. 

As a result of the investigation, 60-year-old, Richard HINOJOSA, of Walpole Island First Nation was arrested and charged with the following offences contrary to the Criminal Code and the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act:

  • Assault with a weapon (two counts)
  • Uttering threats – cause death or bodily harm
  • Careless use of firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition (two counts)
  • Careless storage of firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunitionย (two counts)
  • Firearm – use while committing offence
  • Failure to comply with release order – other than to attend court (five counts)
  • Break, enter dwelling house – commit indictable offence
  • Unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm (two counts)
  • Possession of loaded prohibited or restricted firearm
  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking fentanyl (two counts)

The accused was held for a bail hearing before the Ontario Court of Justice in the City of Sarnia and has since been remanded into custody.

Simon GOLOM – Drunk Driving

(ALMAGUIN HIGHLANDS, ON) – The Almaguin Highlands Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged a commercial motor vehicle driver with impaired driving following a traffic stop.

On September 4, 2024, at approximately 10:45 p.m., officers observed the vehicle driving on Highway 11 in Strong Township with no rear lights activated. Officers conducted a traffic stop on the commercial vehicle.

As a result of the investigation, Simon GOLOM, 39 years-of-age, of Winnipeg was charged with

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Drive without proper rear light -commercial motor vehicle
  • No mudguards -commercial motor vehicle

The accused is scheduled to appear at the Sundridge Ontario Court of Justice at a later date.

Attempted Murder – Justin LYONS Arrested

(QUINTE WEST, ON) – Officers with the Quinte West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have made an arrest in connection with a serious assault in the City of Quinte West.

Officers were called to an apartment on King Street shortly after 10:30 p.m. on Tuesday, September 3, 2024.

A 34-year-old male was located with stab wounds and was transported by Hastings Quinte Paramedics to a regional trauma centre. The suspect in the incident had fled the scene. An extensive search of the area, by Quinte West officers, the OPP Emergency Response Unit and the OPP Canine Unit, did not locate the individual. 

On Wednesday, September 4, 2024, Quinte West OPP officers, and members of the Quinte West OPP Crime Unit, located and arrested the accused. 

Justin LYONS, aged 38 of Trenton, is charged with:

  • Attempt to commit murder
  • Possession of weapon for a dangerous purpose

The accused remains in custody, with a bail hearing scheduled before the Ontario Court of Justice in Belleville.

Amin JAN – Impaired Driving

(CENTRE WELLINGTON, ON) – On September 03, 2024, at approximately 10:30 p.m officers from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Wellington County Detachment were conducting a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) program on Orangeville Road, Fergus.

During the operation, a vehicle was stopped, and the driver was assessed for sobriety. As a result of the investigation, Amin JAN, 57-years-old of Guelph, was charged with:

  • Operation While Impaired – Alcohol and Drugs contrary to the Criminal Code

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario court of justice – Guelph, at a later date.

Fatal Collision

(ORILLIA, ON) – Members of the Orillia Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are investigating a fatal motor vehicle collision that occurred overnight in the Township of Ramara.

On September 4, 2024, just before 10:30 p.m., Orillia OPP, Simcoe County Paramedic Service and Township of Ramara Fire, were dispatched to Highway 12 South near Sideroad 15 for a report of a single motor vehicle that had struck a pedestrian. The pedestrian was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The deceased has been identified as a 20-year-old male of Orillia.

The OPP Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement (TIME) Team attended the collision scene to assist with the investigation. Highway 12 South was closed for several hours for the investigation and has since been re-opened.

Members of Orillia OPP are committed to public safety. Pedestrians are encouraged to wear bright, light-coloured clothing or reflective strips, especially in low-light or dark conditions. Drivers are reminded to always be on the look out for pedestrians and animals when driving.

Drunk Driver Arrested In Walkerton

(WALKERTON, ON) – South Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) arrested a driver after a collision on Durham Street Walkerton, in the Municipality of Brockton.

 On August 28, 2024, at approximately 10:14pm, OPP, Brockton Fire, and Bruce County EMS responded to a single motor vehicle collision in Walkerton. As a result of the investigation officers believed that the driver was impaired by alcohol; they were subsequently placed under arrest and taken to a Qualified Breath Technician for breath tests.

Gregory SIMPSON, 27-years-old, from Mildmay was charged with:

  • Impaired operation of a motor vehicle
  • Impaired operation of a motor vehicle – Over 80
  • Dangerous Operation

Terry TRAYNOR Was Arrested Again

(GRAVENHURST, ON) – Bracebridge Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged one person after a break and enter to a commercial business in Gravenhurst.

On September 4th, 2024, at 10:20 p.m., Bracebridge OPP officers were dispatched to a break and enter to a grocery store on First Street North in Gravenhurst after the store had closed for the day. A man slipped into the building through an employee door and attempted to steal a quantity of consumable goods. Employees responded to the intruder, who assaulted on employee while attempting to follow through with the theft. Officers responded quickly, were on scene within minutes and placed the intruder under arrest.

Police have charged 52-year-old Terry TRAYNOR of Gravenhurst with the following:

  • Break and Enter CC 348(1)(b)
  • Assault Cause Bodily Harm CC 267(c)
  • Assault with a Weapon CC 267(a)
  • Robbery with Violence CC 343(a)
  • Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose CC 88
  • Obstruct Person in the Lawful Execution of a Process CC 129(c)
  • Fail to Comply with Probation CC 733.1(1)

The accused was held in custody and will appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Bracebridge for a bail hearing.

(LUCKNOW, ON) – On September 4, 2024, at 11:30 p.m., a South Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer on Patrol in the Township of Huron-Kinloss, observed a suspicious vehicle on Campbell Street Lucknow.

Shaunnice WHITE Was Arrested

(WELLINGTON NORTH, ON) – On September 3, 2024, at approximately 3:15 p.m., members of Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) attempted to stop the driver of a silver sedan on Peel Street, Mount Forest. The vehicle fled the area and was later involved in a fail to remain collision.  As a result of the investigation, and with assistance from the West Region Emergency Response Team (ERT) and Canine Unit, Shaunnice WHITE, 27-years-old of Harriston, was charged with:

  • Dangerous Operation contrary to the Criminal Code
  • Flight from Peace Officer contrary to the Criminal Code
  • Failure to Stop after Accident contrary to the Criminal Code
  • Possession Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000 contrary to the Criminal Code
  • Driving While Under Suspension contrary to the Highway Traffic Act
  • Use Plate Not Authorized for Vehicle contrary to the Highway Traffic Act
  • Operate Unsafe Vehicle contrary to the Highway Traffic Act
  • Operate Motor Vehicle Without Insurance contrary to the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act

No injuries were reported in the incident.

Husan HABASH Was Arrested

(LAMBTON SHORES, ON) – On August 31, 2024, at approximately 6:20 p.m., police received several reports from concerned members of the public regarding an individual operating a personal watercraft (PWC) on the shores of Lake Huron, Municipality of Lambton Shores. 

The Lambton County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), along with Anishinabek Police Service (APS) responded to the marine incident in the area of East Parkway Drive, Municipality of Lambton Shores. Police were able to locate the operator of the PWC.

As a result of the investigation, 48-year-old, Husan HABASH, of London was charged under the Criminal Code with the following offence:

The accused has been released from police custody and is schedule to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice on October 28, 2024, in the City of Sarnia to speak to the charge.

The Lambton County OPP reminds all watercraft operators to adhere to water safety regulations and operate their vessels responsibly. Unsafe practices on the water not only endangers the operator but also poses significant risks to swimmers and other individuals enjoying the water.

Drug & Weapon Bust – Tanya SMITH

(LEAMINGTON, ON) – Search warrant in Leamington leads to drug possession, drug trafficking and possession of stolen property charges for two individuals.

On August 22, 2024, members of the Essex County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU), OPP Tactics and Rescue Unit (TRU), OPP Canine (K9) and OPP Emergency Response Team (ERT) executed a search warrant at a residence on Russell Street in the Municipality of Leamington.

CSCU members recovered just over $8,400 worth of illicit drugs, approximately $2,000 in recovered property and just under $300 in Canadian currency.

Tanya SMITH, a 46-year-old of Kingsville, has been charged under the Criminal Code and the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act with:

  • Careless storage of Firearm, Weapon, Prohibited device or ammunition
  • Possession Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000 – in Canada (two counts)
  • Poss of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine
  • Poss of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking – Methamphetamine
  • Poss of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking-Opioid (other than heroin)
  • Poss of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking- Other Drugs

The accused has been released from police custody and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice to speak to the charges on October 4, 2024.

The investigation is continuing.
