Drug Bust – 2 Arrested – Names Released

(ORILLIA, ON) – The Orillia Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have arrested two individuals for drug trafficking and drug possession related offences.

On April 4, 2024, at about 2:00 p.m., Orillia OPP officers responded to a call for service regarding reports of drug activity at an address in the City of Orillia. Upon arriving at the location officers commenced their investigation and identified several individuals who were present. 5 individuals were arrested and officers continued the investigation. Two individuals were charged at the conclusion of the investigation.

As a result of the investigation, the following was seized:

  • Fentanyl 5.3 grams
  • Cocaine 22 grams
  • 69 medication tablets
  • Scales, packaging
  • Cell phone

Cathy DELONG, 42-years-old, of Orillia, has been charged with:

·      Trafficking schedule 1 substance – Cocaine

·      Possession of schedule 1 substance – opioid (other than heroine)

·      Possession of property obtained by crime under $5000

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Orillia, to answer to the charges at a later date in May 2024.

Adam NORWOOD, 37-years-old, of Oro-Medonte, has been charged with:

·      Possession of schedule 1 substance – opioid (other than heroine)

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Orillia, to answer to the charges at a later date in May 2024.

8 Drivers Arrested – Names Released

(Orillia, ON) – The Orillia Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and Rama Police Service have arrested and charged 8 individuals with impaired operation related charges in the past 6 days.

On March 29, 2024, at about 5:45 a.m., officers from Orillia OPP responded to a complaint of a noisy vehicle parked in the area of Walker ave in the City of Orillia. An Officer attended and discovered the vehicle to be running and an individual occupying the drivers seat. As a result of the investigation, it was determined the individual was impaired by alcohol. The individual was then arrested.

As a result, Trevor DASTOUS, 24-years-old, from Orillia has been charged with:

  • Operation while impaired-blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Breach of Probation

On March 29, 2024, at about 11:59 p.m., officers from Orillia OPP were dispatched to a traffic complaint where it was reported that individual had left an Orillia establishment impaired and drove away in a vehicle. Information led officers to respond to a separate establishment where the vehicle and individual in question were located. The resulting investigation led police to determine the individual was operating the vehicle while impaired by alcohol.

As a result, Bryce FITZROY, 25-years-old, from Washago has been charged with:

  • Operation while impaired-blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

On March 31, 2024, at about 2:30 a.m., officers from Rama Police Service were conducting a RIDE program in the area of Rama Rd in Rama. During the RIDE program a vehicle was checked by officers and the driver spoken to. As a result of this interaction the individual operating the vehicle was found to be impaired by alcohol and arrested shortly after.

As a result, Austin BARTON, 21-years-old, from Oro-Medonte has been charged with:

  • Operation while impaired-blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Operation while impaired-alcohol and drugs
  • Possession of a Schedule 1 substance – cocaine

On April 1, 2024, at about 10:36 p.m., officers from Orillia OPP were dispatched to a report of a vehicle that had gone into the water at the end of West St S in the City of Orillia. Simcoe County Paramedics and Orillia Fire also responded. The uninjured driver of the vehicle was brought shore by paramedics and firefighters. Officers commenced their investigation and determined the driver was impaired by alcohol. This individual was then arrested.

As a result, Cory WILKINSON, 36-years-old, from Orillia has been charged with:

  • Operation while impaired-alcohol and drugs
  • Operation while impaired-blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

On April 2, 2024, at about 3:25 a.m., officers from Orillia OPP were dispatched to a report of an impaired individual occupying a vehicle at an address in the City of Orillia. Officers responded to find the vehicle had departed. As the investigation continued the vehicle and individual were located at a separate address a short time later. It was determined the individual operating the vehicle was impaired and was subsequently arrested.

As a result a 19-year-old female, from Orillia has been charged with:

·      Operation while impaired-alcohol and drugs

On April 3, 2024, at about 2:26 a.m., an officer from the Orillia OPP was conducting proactive traffic enforcement in the area of Highway 11 in the City of Orillia. During this proactive activity the officer conducted a traffic stop. During the traffic stop the officer determined the driver of the vehicle was impaired by alcohol.

As a result, Shane STILLWELL, 29-years-old, from Ramara has been charged with:

  • Operation while impaired-alcohol and drugs
  • Operation while impaired-blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

All persons in these unrelated investigations are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Orillia, to answer to the charges at a later date in April 2024. As a result of these charges each of their driver’s licences has been suspended for 90 days, and their vehicles impounded for a period of 7 days.

Orillia OPP also posted a news release on March 29 2024 in which two persons were arrested and charge for impaired driving offences. In the span of 6 days 8 individuals have been arrested for a total of 15 criminal charges in Orillia OPP and Rama Police Service detachment areas. Impaired driving comes with significant penalties for those arrested and potentially even worse consequences for those behind the wheel and other motorists on our highways. If you are drinking, don’t drive. If you are consuming drugs, don’t drive. 94 in a 50 – Wayne ISAACS

(ORILLIA, ON) – The Orillia Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged an individual with stunt driving in the City of Orillia.

On March 30, 2024, while conducting traffic patrol on Atherley Rd in the City of Orillia, an officer of the Orillia Detachment conducted a traffic stop due to a vehicle traveling at a rate of 94km per hour in a posted 50km per hour zone.

Wayne ISAACS, 58-year-old of Brampton, was charged with:

Adult Drive Motor Vehicle – Perform stunt – Excessive speed.

Adult Use plate not in accordance with Act.

The driver received a 30-day licence suspension, and the vehicle was impounded for 14 days. The accused is scheduled to appear in court at a later date.

(ORILLIA, ON) – The Orillia Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged an individual with stunt driving in the Township of Oro-Medonte.

On March 31, 2024, while conducting traffic patrol on Hwy 11 North bound in the Township of Oro-Medonte, an officer of the Orillia Detachment conducted a traffic stop due to a vehicle traveling at a rate of 152km per hour in a posted 90km per hour zone.

Feifan YANG, 22-year-old of Markham, was charged with:

Adult Drive Motor Vehicle – Perform stunt – Excessive speed.

The driver received a 30-day licence suspension, and the vehicle was impounded for 14 days. The accused is scheduled to appear in court at a later date.

2 Charged With Drunk Driving In Care Home “Break-out”

(ORILLIA) – The Orillia Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have arrested and charged two individuals with impaired driving after an incident at a local care home in Orillia.

On March 29, 2024, at approximately 1:05 p.m., Orillia OPP officers received a report of a resident of a local care home departing with two individuals without the staff’s knowledge. An investigation commenced and extensive patrol measures were employed to locate the individuals and vehicle involved.

At approximately 1:45 p.m., all individuals were located safe by police. Investigations revealed the resident departed the facility consensually with the known individuals. The resident was transferred into the care of Simcoe County Paramedics for precautionary reasons and has since been returned to the care home.

It was determined that the two individuals with the resident had operated a motor vehicle while intoxicated by alcohol and were arrested.

A 39-year-old female from Orangeville has been charged with:

  • Operation while impaired-blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Operation while impaired-alcohol contrary to section

A 50-year-old male from Barrie has been charged with:

  • Operation while impaired-blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Operation while impaired-alcohol contrary to section

The names of the accused’s will not be released to protect the identity of the resident.

The two accused’s are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Orillia in April 2024.

Both accused’s driver’s licence have been suspended for 90 days, and vehicle impounded for a period of 7 days.

(ORILLIA, ON) – The Orillia Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged an individual with stunt driving in the Township of Oro-Medonte.

On March 29, 2024, while conducting traffic patrol on Hwy 11 South bound in the Township of Oro-Medonte, an officer of the Orillia Detachment conducted a traffic stop due to a vehicle traveling at a rate of 168km per hour in a posted 90km per hour zone.

David Painter, 41-year-old of Barrie, was charged with:

Adult Drive Motor Vehicle – Perform stunt – Excessive speed.

The driver received a 30-day licence suspension, and the vehicle was impounded for 14 days. The accused is scheduled to appear in court at a later date.

ALERT: Criminals Impersonating Police – #FilmThePolice #FTP

(ORILLIA, ON) – Members of the Orillia Detachments Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU) of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have laid weapons and drug trafficking related charges against two individuals after executing a search warrant.

In February of 2024, Orillia CSCU began investigating individuals who were allegedly trafficking drugs in the City of Orillia. Utilizing investigative techniques police were able to gather evidence further advancing their investigation. On March 27, 2024 with the assistance of Orillia OPP frontline members a search warrant was executed at an address on Front Street in the City of Orillia and two persons were arrested and charged. Of note, body armor with police insignia was seized.

As a result of the investigation, the following was seized:

  • Mauser M15 .22 caliber rifle
  • .22 and 12 gauge ammunition
  • Prohibited weapons – taser, flick knives, nun chucks
  • Cross bows with bolts
  • Cocaine 422 grams
  • 20 hydromorphone pills
  • Scales, packaging and cutting product
  • ‘Police’ vests and badge
  • Support 81 clothing
  • Canadian Currency $2300

Donald Lee, 51 years old, of Orillia, has been charged with:

·      Possession for the purpose of trafficking – Cocaine and Hydromorphone x2

·      Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5000

·      Prohibited operation of a motor vehicle

·      Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose

·      Possession of a prohibited device

·      Fail to comply with Probation order

·      Unauthorized possession of a firearm

·      Careless storage of a firearm

·      Breach of firearms regulation

The accused remains in custody pending a future bail hearing.

Susan Bazinet, 50 years old, of Orillia, has been charged with:

·      Possession for the purpose of trafficking – Cocaine and Hydromorphone x2

·      Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5000

·      Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose

·      Possession of a prohibited device

·      Unauthorized possession of a firearm

(ORILLIA, ON) – The Orillia Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged an individual with stunt driving in the Township of Oro-Medonte.

On March 24, 2024, while conducting traffic patrol on Hwy 11 North bound in the Township of Oro-Medonte, an officer of the Orillia Detachment conducted a traffic stop due to a vehicle traveling at a rate of 161km per hour in a posted 90km per hour zone.

Anastacia Mohamed, 19-year-old of Scarborough, was charged with:

Adult Drive Motor Vehicle – Perform stunt – Excessive speed.

The driver received a 30-day licence suspension, and the vehicle was impounded for 14 days. The accused is scheduled to appear in court at a later date.

Drug Bust – Names Released

(ORILLIA, ON) – Members of the Orillia Detachments Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU) of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have laid drug trafficking related charges and seized a quantity of drugs.

In February of 2024, Orillia CSCU began investigating individuals who were allegedly trafficking drugs in the City of Orillia. Utilizing investigative techniques police were able to gather evidence further advancing their investigation. On March 13, 2024 – satisfied with the information gathered the Orillia CSCU proceeded to the next steps in their investigation. With the assistance of Collingwood OPP CSCU, Orillia OPP Community Mobilization Unit (CMU) and Orillia OPP frontline members a search warrant was executed at an address on Barrie Rd in the City of Orillia and two persons were arrested and charged.

As a result of the investigation, the following was seized:

  • fentanyl 142 grams
  • cocaine 62 grams
  • 8 oxycodone pills
  • two digital scales and packaging
  • three cellular devices
  • brass knuckles and flick knife
  • Canadian Currency $1500

Thomas Cleaveley, 67 years old, of Orillia, has been charged with:

·      Possession for the purpose of trafficking – Cocaine

·      Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5000

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Orillia, to answer to the charges at a later date in April 2024.

Amen Turiko, 21 years old, of Brampton, has been charged with:

·      Possession for the purpose of trafficking – Cocaine

·      Possession for the purpose of trafficking – Fentanyl

·      Possession for the purpose of trafficking – Oxycodone

·      Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5000

The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Drug Bus – SIU Invokes Mandate

(Orillia, ON) – Officers from the Orillia Detachment Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU) of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have arrested two individuals and seized a large quantity of fentanyl, cocaine and cash during execution of search warrants in the Town of Innisfil.

On February 28, 2024, the Orillia CSCU with the assistance from officers of the Orillia Detachment executed search warrants at a condominium, storage unit, and vehicle in relation to drug trafficking throughout Simcoe County, resulting in the arrest of two individuals.

During the execution of the warrant at the condominium, one individual sustained injuries. The individual was transported to a local hospital for treatment. As a result of the injury, the SIU was contacted and have invoked their mandate.

As a result of the investigation, police seized the following:

·        101 grams of Cocaine

·        278 grams of Fentanyl

·        22 oxycodone pills

·        $15000 cash proceeds

·        Digital scales and drug packaging

·        Multiple cellular devices

The following individuals have been charged:

Ajit KAHLON, 28-year-old of Beaumont, Alberta:

·        Possession of a Schedule 1 Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine

·        Possession of a Schedule 1 Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Opioid (other than Heroin) – Two Counts

·        Possession of Proceeds of property obtained by Crime over $5000

·        Failure to Comply with Release Order – Other than attend Court – Three Counts

·        Resist Peace Officer

Gurneet DHESI, 23-year-old of Calgary, Alberta:

·        Possession of a Schedule 1 Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine

·        Possession of a Schedule 1 Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Opioid (other than Heroin) – Two Counts

·        Possession of Proceeds of property obtained by Crime over $5000

Both accused were held pending bail hearings on February 29, 2024, at the Ontario Court of Justice in Barrie.

Matthew Tessier & Vasim SHANGARAEV Arrested

(Orillia, ON) The Orillia Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have arrested and charged two individuals with impaired driving within a six hour period.

On February 27, 2024, shortly after 4:50 p.m., police were conducting traffic enforcement on Highway 11 in Severn Township. Upon conducting a traffic stop, the officer entered an impaired driving investigation. The driver was subsequently arrested for impaired driving and transported to detachment for further investigation.

As a result, Matthew Tessier, 41, of Orillia has been charged with:

  • Operation while Impaired Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 plus) (CC)
  • Drive Motor Vehicle- Perform Stunt (HTA)

The accused was released on an Undertaking to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Orillia on March 19, 2024.

On February 27, 2024, at approximately 10:45 p.m., officers were conducting RIDE in the City of Orillia.  Officers determined the driver of a motor vehicle was displaying signs of alcohol consumption and was subsequently arrested.

As a result, Vasim SHANGARAEV, 37, of Orillia has been charged with:

  • Operation while Impaired (CC)
  • Operation while Impaired- Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 plus) (CC)
  • Novice Driver- BAC above zero (HTA)
  • Operate Motor Vehicle Without Insurance (CAIA)
  • Having Care or Control of a motor vehicle with open container of liquor (LLCA)

The accused was released on an Undertaking to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Orillia on March 19, 2024.

Both drivers have been issued Administrative Drivers Licence Suspensions and their vehicles impounded in accordance with their respective charges.

Time For Bounty Hunters? Government Wasting $40,000 Per Escapee & Runaway Parolee

(ORILLIA, ON) – The Repeat Offender Parole Enforcement (ROPE) Squad arrested 1,213 high-risk offenders throughout the Province of Ontario in 2023. This surpassed the 1,141 arrests made in 2022.

In addition to arrests, the ROPE Squad continued to support public safety last year through the seizure of 17 illegal firearms and substantial quantities of illicit drugs.

The ROPE Squad was established in 2002 and is dedicated to locating and apprehending parolees who are unlawfully at large in the province of Ontario. This includes anyone who escapes from secure custody, escapes from or walks away from non-secure custody, becomes wanted by violating bail or release orders, or who is a high risk and a danger to public safety.

In May 2023, the Government of Ontario announced a $48-million investment to enhance the ROPE Squad. Over the next year, the ROPE Squad will expand from approximately 35 officers to more than 70 members province wide. The mandate of the ROPE Squad has been expanded to include both federal and provincial parolees, including anyone who breaches bail or release conditions and poses a risk to public safety.

Darin UDOWICZ Arrested

(ORILLIA, ON) – The Central Region Crime Program of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has arrested and charged an individual in Montreal in relation to harassment.  

On February 22, 2024, the Central Region Crime Program, along with assistance from the Montreal Police executed a Canada-wide warrant for the accused in Montreal, as well as warrant for the accused’s residence.

Darin UDOWICZ, 51-year-old of Dollard-Des Ormeaux, was charged with the following Criminal Code (CC) offences:

·      Adult Criminal Harassment – repeatedly communicate

·      Adult Harassing Communications

·      Adult Intimidation – Justice system – justice system participant

The accused was released with conditions and is scheduled to appear online before the Ontario Court of Justice in Orillia on March 19, 2024.

Pervert Alert – Jeffrey BELANGER – Child Pornography

(ORILLIA, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has arrested a Powassan resident following a child sexual exploitation investigation. 

A search warrant was executed at a residence in Powassan by the OPP Child Sexual Exploitation Unit and the Digital Forensics Unit. Several electronic devices were seized.

As a result of the investigation, Jeffrey BELANGER, 32 years of age, was arrested and charged with the following Criminal Code offences:

  • Possession of Child Pornography, section 163.1(4) – two counts
  • Making Child Pornography Available, section 163.1(3) – two counts
  • Make Child Pornography, section 163.1(2)

The accused is scheduled to appear on February 20, 2024, for a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice in North Bay.

Pervert Alert – Andrew BERTAN Arrested For Child Pornography

(ORILLIA, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has arrested an Oro-Medonte resident following a child sexual exploitation investigation. 

A search warrant was executed at a residence by the OPP Child Sexual Exploitation Unit, with the assistance of the Orillia OPP Detachment, the Digital Forensics Unit and the Federal Bureau of Investigations. Several electronic devices were seized.

Andrew BERTAN, 55 years of age, was arrested and charged with the following Criminal Code offences:

  • Possession of child pornography, section 163.1(4) – two counts
  • Making Child Pornography available, section 163.1(3)

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Orillia on February 20, 2024.
