Death Investigation

(OXFORD COUNTY, ON) – On Monday, February 15, 2021, at approximately 7:00 a.m., the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Oxford County Detachment responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle at a Charles Street West, Ingersoll address.

It was determined that officers arrived at the address and located an unresponsive individual inside a vehicle that was parked in the parking lot of a business. The person was subsequently pronounced deceased at the scene by the attending coroner.

Members of the Oxford County OPP Crime Unit along with OPP Forensic Identification Services are assisting with the investigation.

A post-mortem examination is scheduled to determine the cause of death.

The investigation is continuing.

Snowmobiler 3X Legal Limit Arrested

(SAUGEEN FIRST NATION, ON) – On February 4, 2021 at 2:03 p.m. members of the Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a traffic complaint involving a possible impaired driver on a snowmobile on Cameron Drive, near French Bay Road, in the Saugeen First Nation.

OPP officers located this snowmobile and spoke with the driver, who displayed obvious signs of impairment. The driver was arrested for impaired driver and was transported to the Grey Bruce OPP detachment in Wiarton. A breath test recorded readings over three times the legal limit of 80 milligrams (mgs) of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood. 

Grey Bruce OPP have charged Benjamin JOHNSON, 35 years-of-age, from Saugeen First Nation with the following offences:

  • Operation of a motor vehicle while impaired by alcohol, section 320.14(1)(a) Criminal Code of Canada (CCC)
  • Operation while impaired with blood alcohol concentration 80 mgs or more, section 320.14(1)(b) CCC
  • Operation while prohibited under the Criminal Code, section 320.18(1)(a) CCC

The accused’s driver’s licence is suspended for 90 days and the snowmobile they were operating was towed and will be impounded for 45 days.

The accused must attend the Ontario Court of Justice in Walkerton on March 17, 2021.

OPP Shut Down “Illegal Bar”

(LEAMINGTON, ON) – On February 6, 2021, approximately 10:30 p.m. Ontario Provincial Police Leamington Detachment officers responded to a complaint of an illegal bar being operated on Erie Street North, Leamington.

Officers attended and observed a large number of people fleeing the premises.

One person was arrested at the scene on an unrelated matter.

The investigation is ongoing at this time.

Brandon RANKIN – Drunk Driving

(PLYMPTON-WYOMING, ON) – On February 6, 2021 at approximately 9:20 p.m., members of the Lambton County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were notified of a single motor vehicle roll-over on Churchill Line, Plympton-Wyoming.

Members of Lambton County OPP attended the scene and, upon speaking with the driver, it became apparent the driver had consumed an alcoholic beverage and was displaying signs of impairment. The driver was arrested and transported to the Lambton OPP detachment where they provided two samples of breath above the legal limit.   

As a result, Brandon RANKIN, 33-years-old of Sarnia has been charged with

  • Operation While Impaired- Alcohol and Blood
  • Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 Plus)

The accused has been released and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice at a later date.

Driver Facing Numerous Charges After Running Over Signs

(MEAFORD, ON) – On February 6, 2021 at 1:11 a.m. Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a traffic complaint involving a motorist that was stopped in a live lane of traffic on Highway 26, near Concession 8, in the Municipality of Meaford.

This vehicle had just driven over several signs at a shopping mall in the City of Owen Sound and was located stopped on the highway. Officers approached this vehicle and spoke with the driver.  The driver was displaying obvious signs of impairment, so they were arrested for impaired driving and they were transported to the Chatsworth OPP detachment. A Drug Recognition Expert completed an evaluation with this driver.

As a result of this investigation, Grey Bruce OPP have charged Tanner GOUDY, 23 years-of-age, from Owen Sound, with the following offences:

  • Operation of a motor vehicle while impaired by drugs, section 320.14(1)(a) Criminal Code of Canada (CCC)
  • Possession of a Schedule I substance – Methylenedioxyamphetamine (Ecstasy), section 4(1) Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA)
  • Possession of a Schedule I substance, section 4(1) CDSA
  • Possession of a Schedule III substance, section 4(1) CDSA
  • Fail to remain, section 200(1)(a) Highway Traffic Act
  • Failure to comply with Undertaking, section 145(4)(a) CCC

The accused’s driver’s licence is suspended for 90 days and the vehicle they were operating was towed and impounded for seven days.

The accused must attend the Ontario Court of Justice in Owen Sound on March 18, 2021.

41 Year Old Gets Impaired Charge After Getting Stuck In Ditch

(TOWNSHIP OF PUSLINCH, ON) – On February 6, 2021, at approximately 7:45 a.m. the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded a report of a vehicle that was stuck in a ditch on Concession 2 at Wellington Road 35  in Puslinch Township.  

Police attended and while speaking with the driver, formed the opinion that they were impaired by drugs. The driver was arrested and underwent further testing.

Rupinder K GILL, 41-years-old of Guelph has been charged with Driving while Impaired by Drug contrary to the Criminal Code.

A 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (A.D.L.S.) and 7-day Vehicle Impoundment was initiated as per statute. The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice – Guelph on February 23, 2021.

22 Year Old Caught Going 130 in an 80

(TOWNSHIP OF PUSLINCH, ON) – On January 31, 2021, at approximately 9:15 p.m., a Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer was monitoring traffic and conducting radar on Arkell Road east of Watson Road South in Puslinch Township. The officer observed a white sedan travelling westbound at a speed that appeared to be well above the posted 80 km/h speed limit. The vehicle was locked on radar in excess of 130 km/h.

As a result, Blake DEBRUIN MARTOS, 22-year-old resident of Kitchener, has been charged with Racing a Motor Vehicle contrary to the Highway Traffic Act. The defendant is scheduled to appear in Guelph at the Ontario Court of Justice – Provincial Offences Court on May 19, 2021. Their vehicle and driver’s licence were seized for a period of seven days as per statute.

Fatal Collision Update – Name Of Deceased Released

(TOWNSHIP OF GUELPH-ERAMOSA, ON) – On Sunday, February 7, 2021, at approximately 3:00 p.m., Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), responded along with the Guelph Fire Department, Guelph Police Service, and Guelph-Wellington Paramedic Services to a single motor vehicle collision on Speedvale Avenue east of Wellington Road 32 in the Township of Guelph-Eramosa.

Preliminary investigation revealed that a motor vehicle was travelling eastbound on Speedvale Avenue when it left the roadway, rolled over, and collided with a tree. A passenger of the vehicle, 40-year-old Bernon Baltar BALDONASA from Guelph, Ontario suffered serious life threatening injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. Two other occupants were transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The cause of the collision is currently being investigated by Wellington County OPP and OPP Technical Collision Investigators (TCI). Speedvale Avenue was closed for approximately 3 hours for the investigation.

Shot Fired Update: 27 Year Old Facing Attempt Murder Charge

(OXFORD COUNTY, ON) – Members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB), with assistance of the Brantford Police Service and Six Nations Police Service, have made an arrest in connection with an incident at a Thames Street South, Ingersoll address.

Police responded on February 7, 2020 after a firearm was discharged. A victim was taken to hospital with serious, non-life threatening injuries.

On February 8, 2020 police arrested and charged Forest Reginald WHITLOW, 27-years-old of Six Nations of The Grand River Territory, with the following offences:

  • Attempted murder,
  • Robbery with a Firearm (two counts),
  • Dangerous Driving,
  • Possession of Stolen Property Over $5,000 (two counts), and
  • Arson.

The accused is being held in custody and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice located in Woodstock, Ontario for a bail hearing on Tuesday, February 9, 2021.

ATV Operators Attacked By Gunmen – MacDONALD & MacDONALD

(ST.CLAIR TOWNSHIP, ON) – On January 31, 2021 at approximately 6:00 p.m., members of the Lambton County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were contacted by ATV operators who had been approached by two parties while driving near Greenfield Road in Courtright.

Investigation revealed that the four operators were approached by two males carrying firearms. Three of the operators were held at gunpoint by one of the accused while the remaining operator was assaulted by the other. The operators were able to flee to safety following the altercation and contact police.   

As a result, Gordon MacDONALD, 51-years-old and Ethan MacDONALD, 21-years-old of Courtright have been arrested. Charges include:

  • Pointing a firearm (CC).
  • Careless use of a firearm (CC).
  • Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose (CC).
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm (CC).
  • Assault cause bodily harm (CC).

The accused have been released and are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on March 8, 2021.

Theft From Store – DUNN Arrested

(OXFORD COUNTY, ON) – On Tuesday, February 2, 2021, at approximately 10:20 a.m., the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Oxford County Detachment responded to a shoplifting incident after being called to a Broadway Street, Tillsonburg address.

It was determined that an individual attended the store and removed a quantity of merchandise.

As a result, police charged 24-year-old Aleesha Mae DUNN of Tillsonburg with theft under $5,000.

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice, Woodstock at a later date.

Jakob STOFFELSEN – Drunk Driving

(COUNTY OF BRANT, ON) -On Monday, February 1, 2021, at approximately 6:28 p.m., an officer with the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Brant County Detachment conducted a traffic stop on William Street in Paris. 

During the interaction with the driver, it was determined that the individual had consumed alcohol. 

After failing the administered Standard Field Sobriety Tests, the driver was arrested and transported to the Brant County OPP Detachment. 

As a result of the investigation, Jakob STOFFELSEN, 24-years-of-age from Brantford, has been charged with:

  •  Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus) contrary to section 320.14(1)(b) of the Criminal Code.

The charged party is to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Brantford at a later date to answer to the charges.

Richard McGUIRE – Drive While Prohibited

(WARWICK TOWNSHIP, ON) – On February 1, 2021 at approximately 3:15 p.m., members of the Lambton County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were notified of a two-vehicle collision on Confederation Line, Warwick Township.

Upon arrival to the scene, members of Lambton OPP confirmed that one of the vehicles involved in the collision had been the subject of a traffic complaint in the area minutes prior.

As a result, Richard McGUIRE, 32-years-old of Dresden, has been charged with:

  • Operation while prohibited under the Criminal Code. 
  • Dangerous operation.
  • Failure to comply with release order – other than to attend court.
  • Driving while under suspension (HTA).
  • Drive motor vehicle, no plates (HTA).
  • Fail to apply for permit on becoming owner (HTA).
  • Operate a motor vehicle without insurance (CAIA).

The accused is in custody awaiting a bail hearing.

Two Arrested During Break And Enter – LOCKYER & DEHOOG

(DAWN-EUPHEMIA TOWNSHIP, ON) – On February 2, 2021 at 1:30 a.m., members of the Lambton County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) located a suspicious vehicle parked on Cairo Road in Dawn-Euphemia Township.

The investigation led officers to a vacant house nearby, where they observed signs of recent forced-entry. Officers made contact with two individuals inside the house who were arrested. 

As a result, Kyle LOCKYER, 31-years-old of Dawn-Euphemia, and Heidi DEHOOG, 49-years-old of Bothwell have been charged with:

  • Break, Enter dwelling house-commit indictable offence
  • Possession break in instruments
  • Possession property obtained by crime under $5000
  • Possess schedule 1 substance-methamphetamine

The accused have been released and are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on March 8, 2021.

David HARRICKEY Arrested At Ride

(TOWNSHIP OF PUSLINCH, ON) – On January 29, 2021, at approximately 6:00 p.m. the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (R.I.D.E.) program on Gore Road east of Townline Road in Puslinch Township.

Police spoke with a driver of a vehicle that entered the R.I.D.E program. An odour of alcohol was detected on their breath. A Roadside Screening Device test was conducted which resulted in a fail. The driver was transported to a local OPP Operation Centre for further testing.

David HARRICKEY, 37-years-old of Cambridge been charged with Impaired Operation – 80 Plus (mg of alcohol per 100 mL of blood) and Driving Motor Vehicle with Liquor Readily Available. A 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (A.D.L.S.) and 7-day Vehicle Impoundment was initiated as per statute.

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice – Guelph on February 23, 2021 to answer to the charge.
