(PLYMPTON-WYOMING, ON) – On February 26, 2021 at approximately 9:00 a.m., Lambton County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers were notified of a vehicle travelling at a high rate-of-speed on Highway 402 in the area of Warwick Township. 

Members of Lambton OPP located the westbound vehicle travelling at over 150 km/h in the 110 km/h zone prior to it exiting onto Oil Heritage Road. A traffic stop was initiated and the male driver was subsequently arrested.

As a result, Dilpreet DHILLON, 25-years-old of London has been charged with Dangerous Operation pursuant to the Criminal Code.

The accused has been released and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice-Sarnia at a later date.

(CHATHAM-KENT, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Chatham-Kent Detachment has charged a 20-year-old individual with multiple offences following a traffic stop for stunt driving on Highway 401, Chatham-Kent. 

On February 22, 2021 at approximately 7:15 p.m., an officer initiated a traffic stop after observing a vehicle travelling at high rate of speed.

A subsequent search of the vehicle resulted in the seizure of a firearm, ammunition and a quantity of drugs.

OPP has charged 20-year-old Hayden PIERCE of Caledon with:

• Race a motor vehicle – Stunt – Highway Traffic Act (H.T.A.)
• Carrying Concealed Weapon – Criminal Code of Canada (C.C.)
• Knowledge of unauthorized possession of a firearm – C.C.
• Occupant of motor vehicle knowing there was firearm-C.C.
• Possession of a firearm, prohibited or restricted weapon obtained by crime-C.C.
• Possession of loaded prohibited or restricted firearm-C.C.
• Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose-C.C.
• Transport firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition in a careless manner-C.C.
• Unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm-C.C.
• Unauthorized possession of Weapon-C.C.
• Fail to comply with conditions of release order -C.C. (3 counts)
• Possession of a Schedule 1 substance for the purpose of trafficking – cocaine- Controlled Drugs and Substance Act (CDSA)
• Possession of a Schedule 1 substance for the purpose of trafficking – Methamphetamine- CDSA

The accused was held in custody for a bail hearing in Ontario Court of Justice, Chatham-Kent.

(NORTHERN BRUCE PENINSULA, ON) – The Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to an incident on February 21, 2021 at 2:30 p.m. at the Bruce Peninsula National Park on Cyprus Lake Road, near Tobermory, in the Northern Bruce Peninsula.  

A pair of hikers had been walking on the ice near the park, when a large piece of ice broke away from the shoreline, leaving the hikers stranded, as this floating ice flow continued drifting out onto Georgian. Bay.

Grey Bruce OPP were assisted at the shore line by Bruce County Paramedic Services, Northern Bruce Peninsula Fire Department, Parks Canada and air support was provided by Joint Rescue Coordination Centre (JRCC) from Trenton and OPP Aviation Services from Orillia.  

A JRCC Hercules aircraft located the hikers and continued circling above, monitoring the situation from the air. The hikers had drifted almost three kilometres from shore, when the OPP helicopter was able to hover above the hikers and make a daring ice rescue, returning both people safely to shore. There were no injuries.   

Grey Bruce OPP Acting Inspector Debra Anderson praised the efforts of all of the involved emergency personnel, “This was amazing team work by all of the involved services. Everyone worked together to safely rescue these hikers. This situation could have ended in tragedy”.

The Grey Bruce OPP remind hikers, snowmobile operators, all-terrain vehicle operators and fisherman that travelling on ice, especially on open bodies of water, is extremely dangerous. Please make sure that you check the weather conditions, the ice thickness, always dress for the weather, have a safety plan and travel with a partner. The temperatures have really been fluctuating this winter, so use extreme caution when travelling and avoid unnecessary risks on the ice and near shore lines.

(HALDIMAND COUNTY, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Haldimand County Detachment has charged two individuals with drinking and driving offences over the weekend following a collision investigation on Haldimand Road 9 in Hagersville and a traffic complaint on Caithness Street West in Caledonia, Haldimand County, ON.

On Sunday February 21, 2021 at 3:46 a.m., OPP were conducting patrols when they observed an abandoned motor vehicle that had collided into a ditch in the area of Haldimand Road 9 and Dry Lake Road in Hagersville.

OPP investigated and later identified the driver at the scene.

Officers detected signs of impairment and the driver was arrested.

Further investigation determined that individual had an illegal amount of alcohol in their body.

OPP has charged 53-year-old Lawrence HOULACHAN of Hagersville, Haldimand County, ON with:

• Driving a motor vehicle with more than 80 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood

On Monday February 22, 2021 at 3:39 a.m., OPP responded to a traffic complaint on Caithness Street West in Caledonia.

OPP located the vehicle and investigated.

While speaking with the driver, signs of impairment were detected and the driver was arrested.

OPP has charged 45-year-old Michael VANEVERY of Caledonia, Haldimand County, ON with:

• Impaired operation of a motor vehicle
• Driving a motor vehicle with more than 80 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood

The accused individuals had their drivers licences suspended for a minimum of 90 days and their vehicles were impounded.

Both are to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cayuga at a later date to answer to the charges.

(HALDIMAND COUNTY, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Haldimand County Detachment has charged a 28-year-old individual with multiple offences following a traffic stop on Haldimand Highway 54 in York, Haldimand County, ON.

On Friday February 19, 2021 at 9:51 p.m., OPP were patrolling on Haldimand Highway 54 when a vehicle travelling north bound caught the attention of an officer for a Highway Traffic Act violation.

OPP attempted to conduct a traffic stop of the vehicle when the vehicle fled north bound on Haldimand Highway 54. In the interest of public safety, police did not pursue the vehicle.

Other officers in the area were made aware, and efforts continued to locate the vehicle.

A short time later the vehicle was located again on Haldimand Highway 54 and failed to stop for police.

Officers utilized a tire deflation device and the vehicle was safely stopped.

Investigation revealed the driver was in violation of multiple offences and they were arrested without further incident.

Further investigation and search of the individual determined they were in possession of a prohibited edged weapon.

As a result of their investigation, OPP has charged 28-year-old Joshua DUBY of Hamilton, ON with:

• Flight from a peace officer
• Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle
• Possession of a prohibited device
• Fail to stop for police
• Drive motor vehicle – no drivers licence
• Use plates not authorized for vehicle
• Drive motor vehicle – no insurance

The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cayuga at a later date to answer to the charges.

(NORFOLK COUNTY, ON) -On Friday, February 19, 2021, at approximately 8:54 p.m., officers with the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Norfolk County Detachment stopped two motorized snow vehicles at a RIDE program on Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs (OFSC) Trail 5-88 near Second Concession Road in Norfolk County.

Officers determined one of the individuals was impaired by alcohol.

Amanda DYCK, 32-years-of-age from Norfolk County, has been charged with:

• Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus) contrary to section 320.14(1)(b) of the Criminal Code.

The charged party is to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Norfolk at a later date to answer to the charges.

(NORFOLK COUNTY, ON) -On Sunday, February 21, 2021, at approximately 12:13 a.m., officers with the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Norfolk County Detachment conducted a spot check on the snowmobile trail near Windham West Quarter Line Road in Norfolk County.  

Officers observed three snowmobiles on the trail, initiated a traffic stop and determined one of the individuals was impaired.

Brandon CHURCHER, 33-years-of-age from Norfolk County, has been charged with:

• Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus) contrary to section 320.14(1)(b) of the Criminal Code.

The charged party is to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Norfolk at a later date to answer to the charges.

(MIDDLESEX, ON) – Over the course of the weekend, members of the Middlesex County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were busy during their part to keep our communities safe. 

(Thames Centre, ON) – On February 20, 2021 at 12:43 a.m., Police were dispatched to the report of a motor vehicle collision on Hamilton Road in Thames Center. The vehicle was unoccupied upon police arrival, however a driver was located a short time later.

The vehicle left the roadway, struck a hydro pole and came to a rest in the backyard of a residence in the area. There were no injuries reported.

Police have charged 18-year-old, Christopher GIBSON, of Dorchester with:

• Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs, section 320.14(1)(a) of the Criminal Code of Canada.
• Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus), section 320.14(1)(b) of the Criminal Code of Canada
• Fail to remain, section 200(1) of the Highway Traffic Act
• Young driver – B.A.C. above zero, section 44.1(5) of the Highway Traffic Act

The accused has been released from police custody and is scheduled to appear in an Ontario Court of Justice on March 30, 2021 to speak to the charges.

Thames Centre, ON – On February 20, 2021 at 10:30 p.m., Middlesex OPP observed a speeding motor vehicle travelling in excess of the posted 80 km/h zone on Dundas Street at Shaw Road, Thames Center. 

Police have charged a 26-year-old driver of London, ON with:

•          Stunt Driving- excessive speed as per section 172 of the Highway Traffic Act.

The driver’s vehicle was impounded at the roadside and the individual’s driver’s licence was suspended for a period of 7 days.

The driver is scheduled to appear in an Ontario Provincial Traffic Court to speak to the charges.

(Thames Centre, ON) – On February 21, 2021 at 9:30 p.m., members of the Middlesex OPP were performing a traffic enforcement initiative on Dundas St. at Shaw Road, Thames Centre.

As a result of a traffic stop a 30-year-old driver from Ingersoll was issued a 3-day driver’s licence suspension for registering an Alert on the Roadside Alcohol Screening Device (ASD).

The Middlesex OPP wants to remind the public that if you see anything suspicious you should contact the Ontario Provincial Police or your nearest police authority.

(OXFORD COUNTY, ON) – A 26-year-old Woodstock resident is lucky to be alive after a frightening incident early this morning. 

Just after 3:30 a.m. on February 22, 2021, members of the Oxford County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Oxford County Paramedic Services and a local volunteer fire department responded after it was reported that a snowmobile had broken through the ice on a pond in Blandford-Blenheim Township, at an unknown location. The driver had become separated from friends they were travelling with, when the driver crossed a pond. The snowmobile broke through the ice, and sunk in the water, but the driver was able to self-rescue.   

After searching the area for over two hours, police located the driver just before 6:00 a.m. just outside of Innerkip. The driver was transported to a local hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.

(SAUGEEN FIRST NATION, ON) – On February 16, 2021 at 1:57 a.m., Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to an assault with a weapon that had just occurred at a residence on Mason Drive in the Saugeen First Nation.

An argument had occurred inside the residence involving several parties. The altercation escalated and became physical.  One person sustained serious, but non-life-threatening injuries during the assault. After the fight ended, two suspects left the residence.

Officers located both of the involved suspects and they were arrested without further incident.

As a result of this investigation, Grey Bruce OPP have charged Karl OSBORNE-SMITH, 21 years-of-age, from Mississauga, with the following offences:

• Assault with a weapon, section 267(a) Criminal Code of Canada (CCC)
• Assault, section 266 CCC
• Uttering threats – to cause death or bodily harm, section 264.1(1)(a) CCC

The accused was held for a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice in Walkerton on February 16, 2021.

Grey Bruce OPP have also charged Shawna PETONOQUOT, 24 years-of-age, from Hamilton, with the following offences: 

• Aggravated assault, section 268 Criminal Code of Canada (CCC)
• Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, section 88 CCC
• Two counts of failure to comply with a release order, section 145(5)(a) CCC   

The accused was held for a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice in Walkerton on February 17, 2021.

(Adelaide-Metcalfe, ON) – On February 16, 2021 at 7:44 p.m., members of the Middlesex County Ontario Provincial Police responded to the complaint of a motor vehicle stuck in the ditch on Coldstream Road, just east of Petty Street, Adelaide-Metcalfe Township. 

Police have charged Marshall VINTER, 23-year-old of Chatham with:

•  Operation while Impaired – Alcohol, as per section 320.14(1)(a) of the Criminal Code of Canada
•  Operation while Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 plus) as per section 320.14(1)(b) of the Criminal Code of Canada
•  Having care or control of a motor vehicle with open container of liquor as per section 32(1) of the Liquor Licence Act.

The accused has been released from police custody and is scheduled to appear in an Ontario Court of Justice on April 8, 2021 to speak to the charges.

(COUNTY OF BRANT, ON) – County of Brant Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were alerted to a vehicle on February 13, 2021 at approximately 1005 p.m. on Brant Road in the County of Brant.

County of Brant OPP initiated a traffic stop and conducted an investigation. They found that driver was impaired by alcohol.

As a result of the investigation police have charged the driver William PELTON 59-years-old of The County of Brant with the following offences contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada:

• Operation while impaired by alcohol or drug Section 320.14(1)(a)
• Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration 80 plus Contrary to Section 320.14(1) (b)

The accused will appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Brantford at a later date to answer to the charges. If convicted, the offender will be subject to the Criminal Code penalties, including a fine or jail time, and a driving prohibition.

(MUNICIPALITY OF NORTHERN BRUCE PENINSULA, ON) – On February 11, 2021 at 3:28 p.m. Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a collision involving a school bus and a sport utility vehicle at the intersection of Main Street and Moore Street in Lions Head, in the Municipality of Northern Bruce Peninsula.   

The First Student School Bus had 24 students on board and a driver. There were no injuries.

(HALDIMAND COUNTY, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Haldimand County Detachment have charged two individuals with multiple offences following a traffic stop on Highway 6 in Caledonia, Haldimand County, ON.

On Sunday February 14, 2021 at 4:44 a.m., OPP conducted a traffic stop after a vehicle travelling north bound on Highway 6 at Argyle Street South caught the attention of an officer.

OPP investigated and determined the licence plates on the vehicle had been reported stolen.

Both the driver and passenger were arrested.

Further investigation determined the driver had consumed alcohol. A road side screening test was administered which the driver had failed.

During a search of the individuals, a quantity of illicit drugs were located on the passenger.

OPP has charged 25-year-old Arley WILLIAMS of Six Nations of the Grand River First Nation, ON with:

• Driving a motor vehicle with more than 80 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood
• Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000
• Drive motor vehicle with no drivers licence

OPP has also charged 20-year-old Koko NEWELL of Orillia, ON with:

• Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000
• Possession of a schedule III substance
• Fail to Comply with a release order

Both are to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cayuga at a later date to answer to the charges.d

(MIDDLESEX, ON) – On February 13, 2021 at 11:47 p.m., members of the Middlesex County Ontario Provincial Police observed a suspicious vehicle on Catherine Street, Thames Centre. A traffic stop was initiated.

As a result of the investigation, Shawn JENNINGS, a 35-year-old of London has been charged with:

• Adult Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Cocaine, section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.
• Drive Vehicle or Boat with Cannabis Readily Available, Section 12(1) of the Cannabis Control Act.
• Driver Fail to Surrender Licence, Section 33(1) of the Highway Traffic Act.

The accused has been released from police custody and is scheduled to appear April 23, 2021 in the Ontario Court of Justice to speak to the charges.
