Daniel MACPHAIL Was Arrested

(WAWA, ON) – A collision has resulted in impaired driving charges for one individual. On April 15, 2024, shortly after 10:00 p.m., the Superior East Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police was notified of a single motor vehicle collision on Highway 519 near Highway 17, north of the town of Wawa.  

Through investigation, officers determined the vehicle driver had consumed alcoholic beverages. As a result, Daniel MACPHAIL, 26 years-of-age, of Sault Ste. Marie was arrested and charged with the following:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on June 10, 2024 in Wawa. The accused was issued a 90-day Administrative Drivers Licence Suspension and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

Elisha THOMPSON Was Arrested

(DRYDEN, ON) – A local resident is facing drug trafficking charges following an investigation led by the Dryden Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU).

On April 10, 2024, just before 10:30 a.m., members of the Dryden OPP CSCU, with the assistance of the Rainy River OPP CSCU and the Sioux Lookout OPP CSCU, executed a search warrant at a residence on Casimir Avenue in the City of Dryden.

The investigation resulted in the arrest of one individual and the seizure of suspected illicit drugs, including cocaine. Other items associated with drug trafficking were also seized.

As a result of the investigation, Elisha THOMPSON, 34-years-old, of Dryden, has been charged under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act and the Criminal Code with the following offences:

·        Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – cocaine

·        Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5,000

The accused has been released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Dryden on May 6, 2024.

Scott LASHER Was Arrested

(HALDIMAND COUNTY, ON) – On April 15, 2024, at approximately 1:00 p.m., the Haldimand detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of an erratic driver on New Credit Road, Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation.

The investigation determined that a single vehicle collision had occurred, and the driver left the scene.

The vehicle was located a short time later and upon speaking with the driver, it became apparent they had consumed alcohol. The individual was taken into custody and transported to the OPP detachment for testing.

As a result, 63-year-old Scott LASHER of Niagara Falls was charged with the following offences:

  • Operation While Impaired
  • Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 plus)
  • Drive While Under Suspension

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cayuga on May 28, 2024.

Michael BOLGER Facing Numerous Charges

(QUINTE WEST, ON) – The Quinte West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged a person following the execution of a search warrant in Quinte West.

On April 16, 2024, at approximately 06:00 a.m., the OPP Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU) assisted by the OPP Tactics and Rescue Unit (TRU), Emergency Response Team (ERT) and members of the Quinte West Detachment, executed a search warrant at a residence on O’Neil Crescent, Trenton, as part of a drug trafficking investigation. As a result, an individual was arrested resulting in a firearm, cash, ammunition, suspected cocaine, oxycodone, MDMA (ecstasy), amphetamine, psilocybin (mushrooms) and other items suspected to be related to drug trafficking being confiscated.

Michael BOLGER, 43 years old from Quinte West was charged with:

  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine
  • Possession of a Schedule III substance for the purpose of Trafficking
  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking – Other Drugs
  • Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
  • Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose
  • Unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm
  • Possession of a prohibited device or ammunition
  • Careless storage of a Firearm, Weapon, Prohibited device or ammunition
  • Possession of a firearm, prohibited or restricted weapon obtained by crime
  • Possession Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000 – in Canada
  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking – Opioid (other than heroin)

The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice in Belleville.

Kyle MAURICE Was Arrested

(WEST NIPISSING, ON) – A driver has been charged with Impaired driving after their vehicle was stopped at a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (R.I.D.E.) program

On April 16, 2024, at shortly after 2:00 p.m., the Nipissing West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting a R.I.D.E. program on Front Street, West Nipissing.

Officers spoke with the driver and read them the Approved Screening Device (ASD) demand. The driver provided a sample of their breath and as a result was arrested and transported to the OPP detachment for further testing.

Kyle MAURICE, 24-years-of-age, from West Nipissing, was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • Fail to have insurance card
  • Fail to notify change of address – licence

The accused was released and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in North Bay on May 2, 2024.

The driver was issued a 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

Tom GECSE Was Arrested

(NORFOLK COUNTY, ON) – One individual has been charged following an investigation into a neighbour dispute in Turkey Point.

At approximately 7:25 p.m. on Monday, April 15, 2024, the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Norfolk County Detachment investigated a neighbour dispute at an address on Turkey Point Road in Turkey Point, Norfolk County.

It was determined that two individuals had a dispute on the property, resulting in the victim being threatened and physically assaulted. Minor injuries were reported.

As a result, one individual was taken into custody without incident.

Charged with the following alleged offences is 63-year-old Tom GECSE of Norfolk County:

  • Assault,
  • Uttering threats – cause death or bodily harm.

The accused was detained in custody to appear at a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice located in Simcoe.

Rory SEGUIN Was Arrested

(NORFOLK COUNTY, ON) – An individual has been charged following an investigation into an active weapons incident in Delhi.

At approximately 7:12 a.m. on Tuesday, April 16, 2024, officers from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Norfolk County Detachment, with assistance from the OPP Emergency Response Team and the OPP Canine Unit, responded to and investigated an active weapons incident at an address on Gibralter Street in Delhi, Norfolk County.

It was determined that an individual on the property was armed with an edged weapon and was making threats to harm police officers.

As a result, the individual was taken into custody without incident.

Charged with the following alleged offences is 23-year-old Rory SEGUIN of Norfolk County:

  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose,
  • Uttering threats – cause death or bodily harm.

The accused was detained in custody to appear at a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice located in Simcoe.

Residents living along Gibralter Street and the surrounding area were instructed to stay indoors while officers investigated the incident. The shelter-in-place advisory has since been lifted.

Gibralter Street was temporarily closed between Crosier Street and Dalton Road but has since reopened.

The OPP would like to thank the residents of Delhi for their cooperation during the investigation.

Free Guns For Criminals In Chatsworth

(CHATSWORTH, ON) – On April 12, 2024, the Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a call that a break and enter occurred at a seasonal residence in the Municipality of Chatsworth.

Police attended and learned that an unknown individual(s) entered the residence and removed a number of firearms, trail cameras and outdoor power equipment.

The firearms are described as one .22 caliber rifle and two handguns.

Andrew McGREGOR Was Arrested

(SUDBURY, ON) – A driver was charged with impaired driving after police conducted a traffic stop.

On April 13, 2024, shortly before 10:30 p.m., members from the Nipissing West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) conducted a traffic stop with a vehicle speeding on Elm Street, in the City of Greater Sudbury

The driver was arrested for impaired driving, then transported to the OPP detachment for further testing.

As a result of the investigation, Andrew McGREGOR, 38 years-of-age, from Chelmsford, was charged with, operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs and operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

The accused was release and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on May 2024, in Sudbury.

The driver was issued a 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

$400,000 Fraud

(TOWNSHIP OF CENTRE WELLINGTON, ON) – Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police Major Crime Unit (OPP) has laid charges in a fraud that cost a Wellington North business nearly $400,000.

It was reported that several cheques were stolen in December 2022, and cashed illegally. As a result of the investigation, Istvan DOLANYI, 44-years-old of Richmond Hill, Klauidia FAJKO, 26years-old of Toronto, Anita LAKAI, 35-years-old of North York, Elemerne OLAH, 63-years-old of North York, and Geoffrey COWMAN, 69-years-old of Richmond, BC, have all been charged with Fraud Over $5000 contrary to the Criminal Code.

Nicholas COLBEAR Was Arrested

(LAURENTIAN VALLEY TWP, ON) – A local driver with a suspended license is facing several charges after an off-duty member of the Upper Ottawa Valley (UOV) Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) reported the individual driving on April 13, 2024. On-duty UOV OPP officers conducted a traffic stop of a vehicle in Laurentian Valley Township (LVTP). The driver was charged with violations under the Highway Traffic Act (HTA), Criminal Code (CC) and Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act (CAIA).

As a result of this incident Nicholas COLBEAR, age 22 of Petawawa, was arrested and charged with the following CC, HTA and CAIA offences:

  • Failure to comply with undertaking
  • Driving while under suspension
  • Operate a motor vehicle without insurance

The accused was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice and Provincial Offences Court in May 2024.

Theft In Meaford

(MEAFORD, ON) – On April 14, 2024, the Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a call that there was a shoplifting incident in Meaford.

Police spoke with the victim who advised that on April 13, 2024, 9:59 p.m., an individual entered a business on Sykes Street in Meaford and took some energy drinks then proceeded to leave the store with no attempt to pay.

Police are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying the individual.

Human Remains Recovered

(CLARENCE-ROCKLAND, ON) – The Russell County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is investigating after human remains were located in the Ottawa River in Clarence-Rockland.

An individual, fishing at the boat launch on Edwards Street, called the OPP around 10:30 a.m. on April 15, 2024, to report sighting what appeared to be human remains.

OPP officers, assisted by the Clarence-Rockland Fire Department, attended the location and recovered the remains.

An investigation by the Russell County OPP and Russell County OPP Crime Unit, with assistance from the OPP Forensic Identification Services Unit, is underway, in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner, to determine the identity of the deceased and the circumstances surrounding the death.

A post-mortem examination will be conducted.

While the investigation is in the early stages, the OPP does not believe there is any concern for public safety.

Jason BALCOMB Was Arrested

(NORFOLK COUNTY, ON) – An individual was charged following an investigation into a break-and-enter in Simcoe.

At approximately 10:15 a.m. on Sunday, April 14, 2024, the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Norfolk County Detachment investigated a break-and-enter on Court Street in Simcoe, Norfolk County.

It was found that at approximately 7:15 a.m., an individual attended the address and forcibly entered a shed on the property. After gaining entry, the individual stole a variety of items and then fled from the area.

The individual identified as the suspect had been arrested earlier in the day as part of an investigation into an unrelated incident.

Charged with the following alleged offences is 46-year-old Jason BALCOMB of Norfolk County:

  • Break, enter a place – commit indictable offence,
  • Fail to comply with Probation Order.

The accused was detained in custody to appear at a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice located in Simcoe.

Jason BALCOMB Was Arrested Again

(NORFOLK COUNTY, ON) – One individual was charged following an investigation into a disturbance at a residence in Simcoe.

At approximately 8:16 a.m. on Sunday, April 14, 2024, officers from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Norfolk County Detachment responded to and investigated a disturbance on Kent Street North in Simcoe, Norfolk County.

It was determined that two individuals had a dispute inside a residence on the premises, which led to the victim being physically assaulted. Minor injuries were reported.

As a result, one individual was taken into custody without incident.

Charged with the following alleged offences is 46-year-old Jason BALCOMB of Norfolk County:

  • Assault with a weapon,
  • Assault,
  • Fail to comply with Probation Order,
  • Unlawfully in a dwelling house.

The accused was detained in custody to appear at a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice located in Simcoe.
